- A music video with original music portraying the Union Pacific Living Legend steam locomotive. #844 is the only continuously operating steam locomotive of a major North American railroad. The song, written by Phil Brey, is another in a series of compositions devoted to UP steam locomotives. It follows on the heels of his successful composition "Roll on Big Boy".
A special thanks to Bill Kesler Photography for permission to use his fine photograph of the Living Legend for our cover art.

Thank You Nebraska 66 for providing us with great music about trains! Roll on Big Boy and the Living Legend!
You’re quite welcome! Thanks so much for following our music. We greatly appreciate it!
Beautiful song. Long Live the Iron Horse!
@@sonicfan117dash2 Thank you!
@@Nebraska66
You’re welcome!
@@Nebraska66 844 will never be forgotten.
844 has been my #1 favorite locomotive ever since I first saw her visiting my hometown when I was a little kid. While I didn't get the chance to hear her whistle, being in her presence was a breathtaking experience. For me, It was love at first sight. Thank y'all for this amazing song about the Living Legend. Y'all have amazing musical talent and I look forward to hearing more of your future songs. Here's to hoping they bring out 844 this year and beyond!
We sure appreciate your kind comment and your support!
Same mine was seeing her on the opening theme song of Shining Time Station
For any Union Pacific Fan, UP 844 is the best out of the Steam Team, to show its true strength and how it survived over the years
Big boy is also cool thought
The 844 was never retired from active roster by UP and she heads out of the Twilight of Union Pacific Steam and kept going strong and renumbered 8444 (1962-1989)
She's not renumbered... 8444 is her helper diesel that she gets paired with sometimes.
@@Rocker-1234: Not true, 844 was renumbered 8444 to make way for a GP-30, which can be seen in Boulder City, NV. . .
@@mortensen1961 sooo after doing some more looking UP is just confusing as hell, found some stuff that worded it alot better 😅 now i get what yall are saying
To think in the same era, in the eastern us at nyc, there was a certain, chainsaw weilding maniac.
@@marcleslac2413 ahhh a fellow history in the dark enjoyer
we just need a 3985 song then everything will be right in the world
And 5511 too.
Yes
Well said a union Pacific 3985
When is 3985 restoration compete and running?
We’ll throw this suggestion into our in box! Thanks!
She will forever be a part of railroad lore. The longest running steam locomotive to ever exist, and to never be retired from service.
Countries rise and fall, but 844 is forever...
❤❤❤❤❤😂❤❤😅😊😅😅😅😅😅
Ah yes, the original pride-of-the-line 'Rainbow Sun' of Shining Time Station herself!
Great song on this Living Legend!
Thanks so much for watching! We appreciate it!
Its amazing how she never got retired from service, she along with 3985 and big boy are my favorites,
long live the living legend and all her glory
This Engine is so beautiful. Long life the Legacy of Steam

Absolutely love this song! Cant stop listening to it, I love your songs about these beautiful breathing beasts, I can’t wait for what you have planned next! Be that UP Challenger, NW 611, Daylight, Pere Marquette 1225, or any other beauty, keep up the good work guys! Much love 💚
Warmest appreciation for your kind comment and support! ❤️We greatly appreciate it! We do intend to produce more locomotive songs. Thanks for your patience. My father (who is the songwriter and will turn 90 in July) is currently tied up attending to my Mom’s health issues but we look forward to being back in the studio.🎸🎶
Einfach ein Traum 😊 Danke für die schönen Videos. Ich liebe USA Trains. Danke schön 😊 Gruß Roland 👋

Best Song Nebraska 66 Its the second best song in my album after Roll on Big Boy.
Thank you!
@@Nebraska66 You are the best song makers
beautiful nice I must learn the history of that locomotive i haven't see that locomotive but heard of it
Thank you very much!
UP really needs to bring back the mars light and the greyhound paint scheme.
And if y'all want, I can make the lyrics for the song on 3985, and I can think of a title for it
Great video! Also it's no doubt there's gonna be a song about UP 3985.
Thanks for watching! We appreciate it!
If they ever get it running because that'll be a sight to see a triple header 4014 3985 and 844
@@cornholio329 indeed it would be awesome to have 4014 3985 and 844 in that order, triple head an excursion.
@UnionPacificFan-cu3pt
Amen I bet tickets for an excursion with all 3 steamers heading it would sell out within an hour
I remember watching the 3985 on Trains and Locomotives on TV in the mid 90s growing up and the 844 on Extreme Trains and Shining Time Station
After rewatching that episode of Extreme Trains I noticed the 3985 tender sitting outside after dragging the 844 out for an excursion in one shot
4014 I remember learning about when researching about the history of the Big Boys from the 4005 wreck in 1953
I'm glad all 3 of these beasts are still around today and breathing like they should on their old stopping grounds
Props to the UP steam team for keeping them around for us
@@cornholio329 if they ever get it running? They are moving right along on her! They are working on her as we speak!
Amazing
Thanks so much!
@@Nebraska66 your welcome
I followed 844 outside of Greeley for a few miles a site to behold!
An amazing video! 844 really, truly is a living legend!
Thanks for watching!
844 is the only remaining continuously steam engine that was never retired and is still going strong as of today too!
YEEEE HAW FUCK YEAH 844
Love up 844
This is an awesome song about a very beautiful locomotive. 844 is by far my favorite 4-8-4. I can't wait to see her as soon as I can, and I can't wait to get a ho scale model of her. She is my second favorite UP steam locomotive behind the Big Boy, but she sure is a sight to behold. Just like you guys said in this song, she is poetry in motion
Thank you! We greatly appreciate the support!
Love it
Thanks!
I love listening to the songs you make about trains
Thank you! We’ve enjoyed making them. Thanks for your support!
Finnally 844 got her song as 4014, now we need a 3985, 611 and 1218 song
A 3985 song is a possibility. Thanks for your interest.
Amazing Music Loved The Lyrics All Aboard the 844!!🎉

great song of the long lived 844 union pacific.

I’m pretty sure this is the first song about the 844 and you absolutely nailed it!
Thanks for this kind comment! Much appreciated!
Another banger after Roll On Big Boy

Lost pix on my phone. Saw 844 in the Texarkana Arkansas rail yard some 20 years ago.Have seen 4014 in Atlanta & Marshall Texas since….

Big boy might have crashed but big boys legacy still lives on through golden ages of steam
Wow awesome steam powered locomotive 🚂
This is truly a wonderful song! She’s definitely a Living Legend, and she has definitely earned that name! Well done!
Thank you so much!
Agreed! The 844 has definitely earned the title of the living legend!
Just like nine thousand, I bet it will be another masterpiece

I love all steam engine no more what different railroad they are in the area!
Shine on you livin legend🚂
I hope NP 765 gets a song one day. She's really underappreciated and deserves more love. 💔
Long live steam legacy. Long live UP. Thanks to NEBRASKA 66!
Thanks so much for your comment! Yes, long live steam legacy and UP!
I just got a UP 844 t-shirt today.
The Union Pacific and the union, pacific steam team deserves a huge thanks for keeping the 844 alive for all of us to enjoy! I know I’m only one of many hundreds of people who love her and if any member of the UP steam team reads this thank you so much for helping to keep her alive!
Yes, a big thanks to the UP Steam Team!
844 truly is a living legend.
It was the last Union Pacific steam locomotive ever built and the only one to have never been retired by a North American Class 1 railroad.
Nice song!
Thanks for sharing this information and your kind comment!
She is way beautiful then a flower and the lady that we adore 🥰
The Living Legend was the first locomotive I ever rode, back in 2016 for the Cheyenne Frontier Day’s train. All I can say is that Legends Never Die
That’s cool! Thanks for sharing that great experience!
You’re so great I now like the living legend I wish I could this train so much.
Thanks for watching! We appreciate it!
So beautiful. I've been a fan of the railroads for a long time, and I have loved the songs that came with it. I'm hoping eventually one will be made for my personal favorite engine on design alone, the 4449 Daylight.
Thanks for watching! We’re a little backed up in the studio now but we’ll add 4449 Daylight to our inbox.
I'm from Paraguay and I like American trains Long Live 844
Thank you! 🇵🇾
Wonderful Pictures. Very nice Video. A great praise to the UP Steam Crew!!
Thanks for the kind comment! We appreciate your support!
UP 844 will always be the living legend steam locomotive! I never got a chance to see it irl, but it did came to Tyler, TX back in 2012 when I was little, however I didn’t manage to see it cause I never new it came

Another great song! I'd say the only one left to do is 3985 an then the steam fleet of music for the UP is basically done
Thanks so much! Yes, 3985 would round out the fleet. We’ll add this to our to do list.
Maybe fit for when 3985 returns

They very first time I ever seen 844(8444), was in Ellsworth Kansas in the late summer of 1986,I was like 14,
Cool!
This December 24 will be the 844’s 80th birthday! Her fire was lit for the first time on Christmas Eve almost 80 years ago!
Very interesting. Thanks for your comment!
There is a legend that is living
And now it’s part of railroad lore
The last built of all the UP steamers
And known by her number 844
And 844 she is the fastest
Of all the engines on the UP line
A graceful thing of majesty and beauty
Connecting us to other long long times
Just sing your head out of the window
Listen to the lullaby of power
Highballing on the living legend
Over 100 miles an hour
All aboard for an adventure
While turning back the hand of time
Ride again the living legend
And roll on down the UP line
A piece of history we are seeing
That keeps alive the past for all
The ground is trembling as she passes
And breaks into our lonesome calls
She is poetry in motion
She’s the lady we adore
They’ll never be another like her
Roll on, roll on 844
All aboard the living legend
All aboard 844
All aboard the living legend
All aboard
844

I think we can all agree Union Pacific is just the best when it comes to keeping the classics alive
Absolutely!
I recently got into my childhood love of the rails once more, and I love your songs such as the ones about Big Boy and the 9000. Welp, this is totally another one I can add to my playlist! But, I also imagine some here on RUclips would start to overuse this in their Trainz, Roblox, and toy train videos, though… Oh well, still publicizes your songs nevertheless! Keep it up, y’all! Love coming from Texas! 😊
Thank you for watching in the great Lone Star state!
This is gonna be a banger! Edit:it’s definitely a banger!
Great song about a great steam locomotive, roll on 844.
Thank you! Much appreciated! Roll on!
I do hope to see 844 in person someday, I saw 4014 during its southwest tour in 2019, and I hope to one day see the living legend. And that her signature mars light returns too.
I got to see her now I need to see 4014. Seems like as lovers of steam we have the reverse on seeing legends of the Rail. :)
Cool
My favourite song of all time!
Thanks so much! We appreciate the support!
Another great UP steam song. Very nice job, gentlemen. Would love to hear a song about the Challenger Class in the future.
Thanks so much for watching and your kind comment. We greatly appreciate it! Yeah, we get a lot of requests for a Challenger song. We have added this request to our inbox. Thanks again!
I wish I could visit you but I live in Pensacola but that's close to where you guys are but I love this place and I wish I could be there but it's a long time to get there
Maybe some day you could take a trip to a place where 844 is passing through.
God tier from the first cord
If making music was like baseball. This scored a home run hands down. It has a low tune that is smooth then it has an epic built up and then a climax that pulls you in. Fantastic work Nebraska 66.
Forgive me for asking this but will you do a song based on Challenger 3985 in future?
