Aside from the stellar visual work here, I have to commend on how ingeniously farcical the short was clearly intended to be. Showing the World's Most Famous Steam Loco in a off-beat scenario, and actually crash and explode in impact was part of the joke, yet it's depicted ever so accurately. It hammers it in when the only survivor of the whole ordeal is the human occupant. Incredibly the 'Flying Scotsman' did almost face a collision impact in real life; it happened while it was on its nationwide tour of Australia in the late 1980s. As it was travelling on-route to Alice Springs, a road-truck raced across an isolated road-crossing in front of the approaching locomotive, though it cleared the tracks before it went any further.
