the most common situation i met in the air rb is like 5-6 of fighters diving into a bomber flying at 100m and then get all wiped out by enemy fighters while im still trying to climb with an america plane
All excellent points. I think an even bigger problem than the planes, its the teams. Usually, (at the battle ratings you just used as an example) the teams are made up of way too many bombers. I have been in games where I am literally the only fighter! Also, teams will not side climb and will "Leeeroy Jenkins" in and by the time you get to a decent alt, you are the only one left and the spotting system suddenly shows you the 6 guys that eliminated your team are right on top of you. That is about when I leave to play ground RB...
@@minzekatze I was talking about the people who refuse to side climb and then yeet themselves at the opponents who are way faster than them and way higher up. @@slaggerthord31 That experience is way too relatable, what good does it make to sideclimb the whole match if your team will just throw themselves into the enemy, i gotta agree with Pilicast over here, american props only work in squads most of the time
I don't get how this works, though. Germany planes dive, climb, and turn faster than American planes. Every time I try this strategy, German planes easily evade my dive, and catch up on the climb. Been a few years since I tried WT, since I dedicated to American planes and later found out they're the worst, but unless something has changed, my WT experience was being consistently out-maneuvered, out-climbed, and out-gunned. I'd spend the first several minutes of every match climbing, just to encounter BF109s and FW190s, armed with cannons that can rapidly fire and one-shot me, already at altitude with speed.
The definite exception to this hit and run bunch is the P-36 family. The P-36 can out turn just about anything it wants to (with landing flaps extended it's crazy) and it actually sucks at hit and run due to the insane aileron lock up at just a little over 300 kph. The lock up is omitted at high altitude where the air is thinner however.
As soon as I finish sideclimbing both team have lost 97% of their aircrafts. Thus leaving me with no targets and I finish the game with 1 assist and somehow 2 deaths
A-36 is excellent for head on and turn fighting. it is a p51 with a better engine and air brakes, 2 nose mounted and 4 wing mounted 60 cams allow for great coverage on head one and its relatively accurate if you know how to aim and can take a lot of hits depending on the enemies caliber of weapon that hits you
A-36 is nasty, I kept using it through my 4.7 BR battles. I like to dive in fast leave my mark and go. To evade I like to dive and hit those air brakes as close to ground as possible usually watch my opponent crash shortly after.

While I like the La5's best for this, American planes are perfect for this also.
I think something not covered here is that most Axis planes have an advantage in SUSTAINED turn performance. This makes the planes much more forgiving to fly since missing the first guns opportunity gives you multiple chances to viably reengage. If you maintain a max performance turn, you will slowly gain an advantage over US fighters just due to the plane's inherent performance. With American planes, you have an INSTANTANEOUS turn advantage, which means if you don't get the win in the first 1 or 2 passes, your options are to bug out and reset or steadily lose any energy/position advantage you had. Not many beginners can pull off that kind of gunnery snapshot easily. Your squadmate can help you push him away. Turn fight is really tricky in P51. You can turn in high speed. Higher than 400kmh. That's why you should always speed up before you enter a battle. Quickly dive away is always your choice. So speed up. Don't turn. Let your squadmate help you. Never head on. Never head on. Never head on. Head on is the only way that enemy kill a professional P51. So never give them a chance to head on.
That's pretty stupid that to use an American plane effectively you need a full team when you can hop into any other plane from another nation and do way better everything about American prop planes is ineffective or there is another aircraft in it's same tier who's better in every way

I bought the P-51 D20 NA pack and I adore it, easily my favorite plane in War Thunder but I had to learn how to use it effectively first and after I did I've not complained about zeros, fw 190s or spitfires in about a month of playing.( as of this comment it's only been about a month in a half since I finally learned how2AmericanProps lol)
okay that's fair... but i think it would be nice if they could boost the climb speed a small amount to make it less hair pulling and a little more competitive for usa. I feel supper handy capped playing USA and I played the game well over 2 years now.
First thing have tatics of your own to combat enemy fightrs. (That is on your six) Second learn how to stay on some one while your on their six. Step three never say your aircraft is bad learn with it keep playing it skill get kills.
I try to sideclimb but it never works because there’s either always some fucking german or Japanese player above you or when you try to boom you miss and can’t zoom because you’re a flying garbage truck
About dogfighting: It is an option, however if you can avoid dogfighting then avoid it. You should also NOT dogfight turnfighters/good turning planes like italians, japanese and british. Also wanted to say that if possible, use MEC. The radiators don't produce much drag meaning you can leave them at 70-100%, which in turn means that you can use WEP almost permanently (almost since some planes have limited WEP) The vid is very good though
using MEC also means your auto prop pitch, fuel %, wing trim, and other important variables are manual and unless you don't have those bound to a button or worse not having any idea what they do you put your plain at a higher disadvantage then the plane that runs it on automatic.
P-36 with landing flaps can out turn, out spiral climb and out wiggle anything really. It's the only plane in the US tree (that I know of) that is NOT a good Boom n Zoom fighter (the control lock up in the ailerons is outrageously bad even though they were historically awesome at high speed but they do do better at high altitudes with thinner air).
I would also like to mention that there are so many American players that it's actually suffering to get a match while play with people in a squad who use American planes I wanted to play Swedish
If the only way a plane can succeed is having a massive energy advantage than it sucks (at its BR). Nothing you said in this video doesn't also help the Bf 109s or Fw 190s, or J2Ms, etc.
Awesome 😎 I’ve been playing war thunder for 22 months straight starting from Easter Sunday 2020 so Ik some tips for USA ground for light tanks and medium tanks
Truth is american props are fairly bad but this video will help explain the basics to stand a chance and kill but it will all depend on skill and patience of you and your enemy in the end
1 - i completely disagree. By the time you sideclimb high enough your team would already be dead. 2 - You can very well turnfight in most US planes even against BF-109s if you know what your plane advantage over enemy plane is. 3 - i agree. using energy smart is the key to win BUT there're some weird planes that can have more energy flying straight than you diving on them , it should also be used smart. 4 - as you said not everyone has someone to play with and relaying on random teammate is suicide. 5 - i agree BUT in some situations you have to headon the enemy till it dead or you'll be dead or you can headon enemy if you know they have only low caliber amunition left. Most of US planes sturdy enough to take couple hundreds of 7mm hits.
Can confirm, I find the P-40 to be better at Air RB than the P-51C-10 for example; Even though the mustang can climb better it's not a good turn fighter at low altitudes and isn't as tough (In the chinese front of WW2 some pilots actually preferred the P-40 over the P-51 for these reasons). The thing with later war US fighters is that they gave up completely on maneuverability in favor of speed, armor/armament, & energy retention which worked great IRL but doesn't translate to a small multiplayer environment like in WT
I wished I watched this video before spending all my time finally getting tier 5 American aircraft, solo. :( and also being the guy that cant help but turn and face my opponent.
They have lower climb rates but good high altitude performance and a higher top speed than pretty much anyone else. Just don't get in a dogfight and you'll do fine.
My argument on Point one is this. in a larger realistic arena (No big red names showing you where everyone is at) yes, US planes can get the altitude they need. But in the constricted arena of RB, you will find you have no real chance to take advantage of the US planes specific strengths as often as lets say a German plane will be able to take advantage of theirs. strictly speaking it's not the planes, it's the arena that gives the advantage to the German 109s 190s etc etc for their climb rate, which is 100% always useful from start to end of the match, where the US plan must seed the arena to the enemy for an extended period only to find the enemy focused on out climbing the US planes and thus no advantage was gained while enemy attackers rack up points down low. Point one is not wrong, it's misapplied to an arena that is not suited for it. You're thinking on the line of how the planes perform not how the enemy will counter you in a actual match. The number of times i have simply climbed with a 109 only to pick off the lone 1 or 2 US plans that thought side climbing would give them an advantage, only to end up alone is to many to count... Point four is the only way to counter this. In that event just keep above and away and they WILL separate eventually.. but if you're a group of 109s.. well fat luck for the US plans they basically lost.
Yea cool this may have been important years ago, but from just starting off in US planes (I'm not new, I finished the entire soviet tree before this), I sideclimb every match for 5-15 minutes (Which is boring as fuck), and the moment I return to the battlefield, there is ALWAYS 1 or 2 109s above me, and I die (Diving to run ALSO doesn't work, because they will just dive and catch up due to their energy advantage.) Literally how are you meant to compete with planes that climb better, turn better, go faster, and outgun you? Its awful
The one saving grace of American fighters that keeps drawing me back are that 50 cals are just so damn RELIABLE at killing things. That's probably why you die more to them then British planes
So what I’m hearing is, the US aircraft are terrible and to be effective you need more of them? That seems a bit unrealistic in a game where most people play solo
Attacking a TA 152 in a head on while he has any sort of energy advantage is a mistake. The TA 152 has 2 20mms and a 30 if I am not mistaken so it has scary guns but not a lot of ammo.
Problem is if one German plane is higher than you the game is over. Yes you can out dive it in most US planes but you will never out climb it again. You need to spend about 7-10 minutes depending on the plane to climb to 15-20,000ft. Even then. Most savvy axis players climb to 20,000 ft and you are instantly screwed. If by chance you are the highest one in the game. Odds are you will have 7-8 minutes left in the fight. Giving you just enough time to make a pass maybe two. Where the odds of you hitting a plane are slim to none. Once you dive down the other axis players left(usually 60%) will climb above you quickly. Then all you can do is dive away and run to base land and quit. They really made the axis planes(mostly German) overrated and over powered.
I am sorry, but us props will never be higher than any enemy, and will get bnz, and out dogfight by everyone. So indeed, us props are absolute trash, besides the xp50 or p38.
Thanks for the tips! I have always side climbed (didn’t know that is what it is called), but thought I was a total noob for doing so because I was the only one doing it. I try to climb at a rate where my IAS stays relatively constant. Too slow?

Turn fight is really tricky in P51. You can turn in high speed. Higher than 400kmh. That's why you should always speed up before you enter a battle. Quickly dive away is always your choice. So speed up. Don't turn. Let your squadmate help you.
Never head on.
Never head on.
Never head on.
Head on is the only way that enemy kill a professional P51. So never give them a chance to head on.
That's pretty stupid that to use an American plane effectively you need a full team when you can hop into any other plane from another nation and do way better everything about American prop planes is ineffective or there is another aircraft in it's same tier who's better in every way
excelent video, quick to the point and useful, oh and nice background music
if ur on mouse and keys like me and dont have ur WASD with Q and E binded to ur planes movement u alredy loose just bind left shift to wep and left ctrl to decelerate leaving your mouse wheel open to key bind options pings and markers and lock on while ur key board hand handles to movement of the plane to make the mouse op
This was really useful when i time traveled.
okay that's fair... but i think it would be nice if they could boost the climb speed a small amount to make it less hair pulling and a little more competitive for usa.
This is a very helpful video. Thanks
I try to sideclimb but it never works because there’s either always some fucking german or Japanese player above you or when you try to boom you miss and can’t zoom because you’re a flying garbage truck
What do when literally everyone is flying at 1000m altitude?
all right took notes and will give it a try tonight hahaha :D thanks
Best video evver it all works for killing more and life longer and realy help the whole team
About dogfighting:
It is an option, however if you can avoid dogfighting then avoid it. You should also NOT dogfight turnfighters/good turning planes like italians, japanese and british.
Also wanted to say that if possible, use MEC. The radiators don't produce much drag meaning you can leave them at 70-100%, which in turn means that you can use WEP almost permanently (almost since some planes have limited WEP)
The vid is very good though
using MEC also means your auto prop pitch, fuel %, wing trim, and other important variables are manual and unless you don't have those bound to a button or worse not having any idea what they do you put your plain at a higher disadvantage then the plane that runs it on automatic.
The p36g out-turns the spitfire
low tier is weird for all nations anyway
P-36 with landing flaps can out turn, out spiral climb and out wiggle anything really. It's the only plane in the US tree (that I know of) that is NOT a good Boom n Zoom fighter (the control lock up in the ailerons is outrageously bad even though they were historically awesome at high speed but they do do better at high altitudes with thinner air).
@@PiotrBarcz AD-2?
@@dsdy1205 ?
@@PiotrBarcz strike fighter, 5.7. Turns tighter than any plane at that BR except zeros, Ta-152's and G-55's. Decent climb and hard-hitting AN-M3's
I like to use the SBD2 in 2.7 battles with gun pods, turns out that it is basically the low-tier A10
Thanks for the guide, i've killed a lot of fighters thanks to the guide.
idk where to find ppl to play with and i enjoy playing rb
I would also like to mention that there are so many American players that it's actually suffering to get a match while play with people in a squad who use American planes
I wanted to play Swedish
If the only way a plane can succeed is having a massive energy advantage than it sucks (at its BR). Nothing you said in this video doesn't also help the Bf 109s or Fw 190s, or J2Ms, etc.
I think you can beat the fw190, they don’t climb and turn very well.
Awesome 😎 I’ve been playing war thunder for 22 months straight starting from Easter Sunday 2020 so Ik some tips for USA ground for light tanks and medium tanks
nice tips thx
np
The issue with side climbing is that your team is dead before you get to a decent altitude.
This was a great video! couldn't fly American planes well, now I'm doing a bit better! Subscribed, and keep up the good work!
Great video!
Thats actually a good guide
imo all you need is *S P E E D*
the beginner propeller is fast a hell
Thanks man! God bless!
P-40 is a pretty good dog fighter IMO
P-39 and similar are really good at turn fighting as well
Can confirm, I find the P-40 to be better at Air RB than the P-51C-10 for example; Even though the mustang can climb better it's not a good turn fighter at low altitudes and isn't as tough (In the chinese front of WW2 some pilots actually preferred the P-40 over the P-51 for these reasons). The thing with later war US fighters is that they gave up completely on maneuverability in favor of speed, armor/armament, & energy retention which worked great IRL but doesn't translate to a small multiplayer environment like in WT
also when diving to get away make sure you turn a little to not get your plane shot up.
american planes are bricks with guns and my god they can slap hard
new players here. tried uk and germany up to br 3. then decided to try usa and love the planes 😅
I sideclimb but when i get to altitude im the only one left on my team
Its awful
I have never once felt that American fighters sucked, I know I'm bad but I get shot down all the time by American fighters than I do spitfires.
The one saving grace of American fighters that keeps drawing me back are that 50 cals are just so damn RELIABLE at killing things. That's probably why you die more to them then British planes
Wow! Thanks!
So what I’m hearing is, the US aircraft are terrible and to be effective you need more of them? That seems a bit unrealistic in a game where most people play solo
So i fly with a friend or give up on america and go to japan where i can actually turn?
“American Fighters are bad”
50 cal: *are you sure about that?*
I basically always sideclimb regardless of country or aircraft. Unfortunately my team always goes Rambo style.
I’m a new player and I think America’s great
I want to play Realistic, but it feels intimidating. And my aim is awful without the arcade aiming circle, so i can’t manage to get any kills sadly
Much needed video 🤩
Attacking a TA 152 in a head on while he has any sort of energy advantage is a mistake. The TA 152 has 2 20mms and a 30 if I am not mistaken so it has scary guns but not a lot of ammo.
Attack from above
the idea of US planes do better in teams makes sense but I think the US gets bad WR cuz a lot of new player pick the US.
I love p-39s but p-51 was disappointing for me, because of lack of these tips, I guess
I constantly lose radar locks with my f14 eventhough the enemy is right infront of my eyes.
Could you do a series on the f14/ radar
I start shooting at 2.8km and get the kil at 1.2km when the anime is coming to my face
Thank your for this video. I thought I just sucked lol
Number 6: always use mouse aim until you feel comfortable enough to fly with a controller
so basically, most US fighters are bad for air RB.
Here for class sir sorry I’m late 🫡
In my experience I've never had Trouble turn fighting any planes except Britain and Japan. But Japan is op and unbalanced
thx man lov u
Can you make a video for 1.0 to 4.0 for arcade American props
I feel like i dive miss my shots try to zoom away and find the guy right on my 6:00 and i get on hit by some cannon.
I am sorry, but us props will never be higher than any enemy, and will get bnz, and out dogfight by everyone.
So indeed, us props are absolute trash, besides the xp50 or p38.
American planes are the best planes especially for close air support
Thanks for the tips! I have always side climbed (didn’t know that is what it is called), but thought I was a total noob for doing so because I was the only one doing it. I try to climb at a rate where my IAS stays relatively constant. Too slow?
