It saddens me to know that Mr. Foxx was treated so disrespectfully. It was because of his talent that Sanford and Son even existed. I watched his shows as a child, and continue to watch re-runs as an adult. He was such a very talented and gifted artist, and deserved much more respect than what was given to him. Rest in Peace Mr. Foxx!!!
More and more I realise how wise it was of Dave Chapelle to simply walk away. Once again my heart is broken. Why do they treat our treasures like dirt? God bless Della Reese and Redd Foxx.
Lord have mercy....truly sad to see and hear the truth from Mrs.Reese how the producers acted towards Red Foxx, Mrs. Reese told the truth... Much respect to her.
Great to stand up for yourself and Redd Fox as well as morals in general Della Reese! RIP "Great Redd Foxx" You will live forever in the hearts who appreciate you, your talent, and your life!
lolol. Right! It sounds like she was CLOSE to doin it. Imagine the producers being that "thoughtless" and cold hearted. Redd passes away and the first thing out of their mouths (in front of his grieving widow) is "who are we gonna get to take his place?". Della woulda been justified if she woulda went 'HARLEM NIGHTS' on em.
Redd was the funniest man who ever lived bu like many; had demons. Looking past the drugs...he was always a very generous man. If you where Redds friend, you where a friend for life.
Executive producer(s): Eddie Murphy, Mark McClafferty and Greg Antonacci Producer(s): David Garber, Shelley Jensen, Deborah Leschin, Leslie Ray and David Steven Simon.
i was watching that show at the time and they did write when out he went on a fishing trip and caught a big fish and had a heart attack, now i know there are more then one producers on each show but that show was an eddie murphy produce show and i hate to think he treated him bad at the end cause they were good friend, redd fox was his mentor.
Redd Foxx was actually Richard Pryor's mentor. Richard Pryor was Eddie's mentor. Their chemistry along with Della Reese in Harlem Nights is what landed them the Royal Family show. But I am with you on his treatment. I was too young to understand Redds humor at the time as I was only 10 when he passed. But as a comedy aficionado I have studied a lot of his material. The man was incredibly funny. I still watch Sanford and Son a couple times a month.
I wish there were re runs of Sandford and Son. I loved the show. We never get to see any of the classics. Carol Burnett. Lucy . Andy Griffith. We need more shows like that.
Thanks for your Comment I Love Redd Foxx and Appreciate his Talent! He told me he went to High School with my Cousin Dorothy Dandridge! Thanks for this Post! Ann Dandridge POWERFUL PEOPLE and FRIENDS
Yeah. Also, Eddie was HUGE at that time. Redd was in debt for about $900 thousand dollars to the I.R.S. He asked Eddie for help, and he didn't so, the I.R.S. came to Redd's house and seized everything in his house.
Della Reese and Redd Foxx are legends. There should have been no reason why Redd Foxx was going to be viewed as a minor character on the show- he brought alot of views and alot of laughs to the show, The Royal Family. I wish Norman Lear produced and created the show, he would have NEVER allowed his cast members to be treated like shit. I know cause I have met people whom worked for Norman Lear ex. Bern Nadette Stanis (Thelma on Good Times) and they all love and adore Norman.
i remember when that happened too, real sad, thats why i always say, if you owe those bastards money, put every major thing, cars, boats houses etc in someone else's name and any valuables you might have like a watch that elvis gave you, give it to a trusted friend or family member and it will be waiting for you when you get done with them, nothing they can do about that, wish fred had done that.
You are absolutely correct. It may not have been a racial issue, just a lack of respect foe the talent. Btw I am black. I work in the corporate world and there are A-holes galore in all corporate fields.
Well, I guess my FIRST comment sounded little too ETHNIC for the people that run THIS channel, so I'll try it again...Thanks for a WONDERFUL interview Ms. Reese. Rest in peace Redd Foxx. ATTN: TVLEGENDS, If you're allowing comments to be posted on your channel, then at least show them. I know for a FACT my first comment wasn't disrespectful in any way, yet you deleted it and allowed the one below mine to go thru. THAT'S why you have such WEAK viewer numbers. So have fun deleting this one!
Yes... the producers influence (coerce) the artist and the result is invariably crap. It's a lucky thing for the art world that Van Gogh didn't have some of these arseholes around to tell him how to paint - you know - "that don't look quite right, Vincent. Straighten out those wavy lines and we'll have something."
That's right! Look at that dude Sugar Man. They didn't know about him his whole LIFE until some country in the THIRD WORLD reached out and said you know, this guy is what we know of American music. He should be more respected. That's when things changed. Then. It wasn't until then that anyone knew or cared what happened to the guy. All they knew was that Jose Feliciano wore glasses so what? Latinos must all be the same person. That is not right at all! All people are people like Della said.
I'm a white guy with black friends. It may be offensive to say that, but I think people say it to relate that I'm not some white person who's had little contact with black people, but have had actual real long-term friendships, This producer apparently was your typical corporate douchebag, like every industry. It is amazing that some people in showbiz don't know what talent means, and think they are above talent. This comes from classic performer/writer/director conflicts and all are essential.
I don't know that RUclips would allow the airing of any answer I might give to your post, unless of course I agree with you completely. So tell us, please, in your humble opinion, just what it is that constitutes a "bitter black woman." Folks like me must, apparently, look to you for your expert opinion in that regard. Or perhaps to RUclips itself, what with its having already approved your "expertise" on the matter.

Thank you Ms. Reese for sharing this story. The lack of respect demonstrated by those producers is disgusting! Rest in peace Mr. Foxx.
Mrs. Della Reese. Thank you for sharing that. You are one amazing lady!
Redd deserve to be treated with more respect than that.
I have so much Respect for Della, she is a very wise, humble, beautiful person. R.I.P. Redd
Imagine someone actually believing that they could tell Redd Foxx how to be funny? The man was a comedy legend.
That's Della speaking the brutal truth.
More and more I realise how wise it was of Dave Chapelle to simply walk away. Once again my heart is broken. Why do they treat our treasures like dirt? God bless Della Reese and Redd Foxx.
I wish she'd named the producer.
"If something happened to me and they treated my husband and my daughter that way, I'd have to come back. And once I go I don't wanna come back" yes
Lord have mercy....truly sad to see and hear the truth from Mrs.Reese how the producers acted towards Red Foxx, Mrs. Reese told the truth... Much respect to her.
The way that man was treating Foxx, it hurt his heart and stress is terrible to your health.
Heartbreaking. His legend is large and will continue to be so. Redd Foxx is an Icon! I could listen to him all day.
I remember that also...Redd was asking the public to please help him. Because he helped so many people in the past as well.
Yeah, you do NOT want Della Reese to have to come back from the dead and woop dat ass.
Great to stand up for yourself and Redd Fox as well as morals in general Della Reese! RIP "Great Redd Foxx" You will live forever in the hearts who appreciate you, your talent, and your life!
So honest. Thank you. Absolutely moving.
Ms.Reese speak nothing but the truth!!!! love her!!
That's a terrible heartless thing to do but that goes to show how some people will do and act in the TV industry. Redd we love ya'.
It's not "Some People," it's the specific producers of that show. They need to be publicly shamed.
I love me some della reese.
Spot on Della!!
Ugh... she is right, Hollywood sucks...These know it all producers etc...
Wow that's all I can say about that. Redd Foxx is a legend and he deserved more respect than that.
Wow! I'm speechless..but not surprised
Della, you just made the top ten list of people I have GOT to meet in Heaven!
thank you Mrs Reese and I never knew this is how Redd Foxx died how tragic and awful these producers were
R.I.P. RED FOXX WE LOVE U!!! Sanford & Son forever!!!!!
What a great account of a terrible experience. I don't blame her one bit.
The entertainment industry is a cutthroat business. Always was, always WILL be!
Man, I never knew that about Redd Foxx death, the TV industry is heartless, to do that to a legend/icon is: monstrous.
lolol. Right! It sounds like she was CLOSE to doin it. Imagine the producers being that "thoughtless" and cold hearted. I miss Redd so sad what happened to him
I never knew this is how he went. How sad :(
Redd was the funniest man who ever lived bu like many; had demons. Looking past the drugs...he was always a very generous man. If you where Redds friend, you where a friend for life.
Executive producer(s): Eddie Murphy, Mark McClafferty and Greg Antonacci
Producer(s): David Garber, Shelley Jensen, Deborah Leschin, Leslie Ray and David Steven Simon.
If people would only realize that there truly IS...a Judgement Day.
"WOW" that WAS FUUUUUUUUCKED UP THANKS MRS ,DELLA REESE.
so so sad ! that bastard producer stressed that old man out ugh !!!
i was watching that show at the time and they did write when out he went on a fishing trip and caught a big fish and had a heart attack, now i know there are more then one producers on each show but that show was an eddie murphy produce show and i hate to think he treated him bad at the end cause they were good friend, redd fox was his mentor.

if you ask me; i think they killed that man.
Not surprised at all & what happened to the producers? NOTHING!
Yeah. Also, Eddie was HUGE at that time. Redd was in debt for about $900 thousand dollars to the I.R.S. He asked Eddie for help, and he didn't so, the I.R.S. came to Redd's house and seized everything in his house.

So sad. And how heartless thoses dumb producers caring more about a stupid script and the man just died. so heartless. Rest in peace Redd Foxx.

That producer's last production will be Touched by a Devil when he passes away.
wow
why would you think that?
Where did you see it?
Yes... the producers influence (coerce) the artist and the result is invariably crap.
It's a lucky thing for the art world that Van Gogh didn't have some of these arseholes around to tell him how to paint - you know - "that don't look quite right, Vincent. Straighten out those wavy lines and we'll have something."
I was always wondering why he died so young. One just doesn't die at age 68!
what movie they talking about
ok i see it Royal Family
That's right! Look at that dude Sugar Man. They didn't know about him his whole LIFE until some country in the THIRD WORLD reached out and said you know, this guy is what we know of American music. @depletable The Royal Family,
Same ole crap,...
Red Foxx died of a heart attack caused by heavy cigarette smoking.
It had nothing to do with it .
