She was apparently wealthy at that time. Perhaps she should have helped her brother's family so they wouldn't have to make the difficult choice of giving away their child.
Maybe she did but she also said they kept having children. It is no one's responsibility to take care of someone else's kids if they decide to keep having them. I would think she helped but you can only help so much.

You have to be careful with how you "help" persons because sometimes it would do more harm than good. Some people get too comfortable when they have a rich relative funding their lives.
I knew that her first name was also pronounced "Della Reese" (she said it in the video) but I wasn't aware of how it was spelled. It surprised me that the lady called her by her first name rather than her last name.
