This is the first time I have ever seen him since watching him in Sanford and Son in the 70's. I would recognize his voice anywhere. What a very wise and smart man. Thanks for the video.
What is "wrong" with that Jon Aba, Redd Foxx had been around the block for decades, if he didn't save his money or pay his taxes, why should Demond Wison come to his rescue, that's the one agency you don't play with the IRS. Redd Foxx helped older actors get work on his show, I'll give him that, but help pay his IRS bills because he tried to be slick. That's ridiculous !!
Wilson is also a Vietnam vet and they took a lot crap when they returned to the States. That also has contributed to his no-nonsense attitude. Good to see that he’s still around and doing well.
I did not know he was a pastor. I don't go to a church and haven't in decades but truth, I would listen to what he has to say. He is honest in a brutal way.

Demond Wilson is one of those very rare solid bros from the old school that if you're really listening, he just gave more wisdom in 7 minutes than anything you've ever heard or will ever hear in your life.
Both Demond and Redd provided some needed heart-filled laughter in prime time eves back at that time and to this day, it's still one of the best comedy shows ever aired. Thank you for the memories.
RIP to the Legend Redd Foxx. He lived his life (not ours) to the fullest & how he wanted to. We all have something to say but remember we all are on the outside so who are we to say anything. One of my favorite shows, so much so that I have the DVD collection which is "hands off" except for me lol. Peace everyone.
@darrinnicholson2492 Seems rather cold and bitter, he makes sense but perhaps a little more respect to the man that made him. Without Redd and that show no one would know Demond Wilson today.
@@langlang420Y’all dudes are SISSIES. The world doesn’t care about your feelings. He’s not cold and bitter. He’s honest and direct. Life doesn’t care about how you feel. The man said what he said. Y’all assume everything is “bitterness” because an abrasive delivery scares ya’ll. Demond said what he said and he’s being forthcoming. Redd went broke off of his own cognition
I remember Demond Wilson came to my junior high back in '91 and he basically said the same things he's saying now. He's right, only you can save you. No one else can. Much respect to this brotha.
Here’s my Redd Foxx story. Shortly after he left Sanford, I was at a jazz club in Los Angeles, the Parisian room. The great Milt Jackson was performing that night, as I’m pulling into the parking lot, I immediately recognized Redd. Now just Imagine this hugh television star, driving a banged up limousine that was in disrepair with a couple of guys outside of the vehicle, and they were snorting coke. I wanted to be excited at seeing a celebrity, but I wasn’t able to because it was obvious that he was going through some difficult times. I was sad for him.
Demond Wilson is a wise man. He loved Red but he's honest. Many people just talk good about someone because they're dead. Their passing is sad but it doesn't change the truth. He knows Red wasn't perfect. It takes a certain level of mutual love and respect to hold someone accountable. I applaud him and will always adore the show and consider it a comedic masterpiece and that's all thanks to the incredible actors/comedians on the show. He may have been a fish eyed fool, but we all sure miss him. 😅 *_RIP Red Foxx_*
Demond took a lot of guts to be totally honest... So, lets respect that... He never said he loved him... He didn't dislike Red...But, he basically was saying Red was just somebody he worked with... That's probably a big reason it was pretty easy for him to take a step back, and be smart, and not just give money to a guy who just throws money out the window... But, I'm sure if that was his actual father, that wouldn't have been so easy...
Can y'all just release the full uninterrupted interview? Reverend Demond is the man! Not that he sounds uneducated or uncultured, but he doesn't care about coming across as polished in this interview. He's just giving it to us straight and I find this very refreshing.
This young man definitely learned something from this interview. Do ur research, ask meaningful questions, listen closely, maintain eye contact, soak up the experience. 😊
This was the best interview on comedy hype ever! Demond kept it 💯 on all levels and humanized ppl. This interview was honest and gave us a true, in-depth look behind the scenes of the events that occured during that time along with individuals he worked with true characters
@@B.NICE302 the interviewer DEFINITELY thought he was going to get a sympathetic response, he Wasn't ready for the realness that demond was about to "spit" ABOUT taking care of your business AND NOT letting the IRS "rundown on you" for NOT taking care of your business!
@@hastyone9048Well... he didn't seem to follow the party line of " Yes I'm so grateful he put me on." He explained that he was a trained actor and was asked to do an episode of All In The Family. Then they asked him to do a show with Mr. Foxx. He did and the rest is history. Redd didn't have a show already, and picked him out. One of the shows producers did. Mr. Wilson was probably more frugal and conservative wurh his finances. Mr. Foxx, Sammy Davis Jr., Ike Turner and quite a few of those guys popped up in most magazines and on tv talk shows showing off their bling or standing in front of their exotic cars and mansions. On top of whatever eles.they were spending on. I guess he's right about throwing away good money behind others bad decisions. 🤷🏾♂️
It was a cheap question, trying to assign blame/shame. If, instead of it being the IRS issue, he was an addict, would you ask Demond the same question if Red had died of an overdose?
It's impossible to help people with destructive behaviors then you just become an enabler for their lifestyle. Mr Wilson is straight on here great wisdom.

I loved watching Sanford & Son back in the day. Especially Fred & Aunt Esther. That was comedy gold! It's really nice to see that Demond is still doing great today.
@brock one of the greatest show ever! You got to be on crack or coming off it . That show was so poorly written, poorly acted the characters were all line readers you certainly set the bar so low ants can walk over it.
As much as I love Redd Foxx he should have saved his money and paid his taxes. There's nothing wrong with helping others but never help to your own detriment, especially when those same people won't come to your rescue. Lesson learned from those who came before.
Thank god our founding fathers didn't follow this narrative. You do realize that if the income tax is truly legal, that the govt can take every penny you make and leave you with ZERO...Right, and that's the absolute fact. The govt also needed you to, VOLUNTARILY, go get a SSNumber to make it legal. That's right, there is, NO LAW, that requires any American citizen, to get a SSNumber...That's a pretty big deception wouldn't you say. I love guys like Redd Foxx, they know what the real deal is and are willing to risk it ALL, unlike the typical delusional sheeple out there.
@@MrDLRuThank you for dropping that knowledge on the weak , people are so delusional, here's a guy talking down on Redd Foxx years after the man is gone , a man who gave him opportunity only to turn his back when the breadwinner fell on hard times, then we wonder why they say no to reparations and justice in general, look at how you treat each other

I really like this interview. Demond Wilson understands he is not obligated to support Red Foxx when bad choices were made. Healthy. We all could use this lesson as a guide to battle our friends and family who want us to feel Fear, Obligation or Guilt.
I love Mr.Wilson! He’s the best. I love the elderly who are 100% about their business. He’s teaching the interviewer how to be better for his future interviews.
I am really happy to view this interview because I agree with him. When you watch someone self destruct that you care about it’s hard but what I get from this man is, wisdom 👍🏾
Shout out to the young man interviewing Mr. Wilson! While I understand Mr. Wilson's perspective, the young man out of respect, and a sense of professionalism, held his own against an older, bombastic individual. That takes a special person not to lose their cool under pressure, especially while this interview is being recorded for posterity. Mr. Wilson spoke of some things as far as preparedness that should be heeded by this young man for upcoming interviews, yet other than that, I personally wanted to acknowledge his ability to keep the interview from being contentious, and keeping it on track. Thanks for sharing this special moment.
demond wilson never played a role that was bombastic. he did a good job of depicting black males as reasoned and stable something that was lost by the mid to late 1980s.
@@dampergoldenrod4156 In this interview, (not in reference to his acting career) Demond Wilson was Bombastic. Yet the interviewer kept his cool. This was my point. Some viewers described Demond Wilson as being "no nonsense" in this interview. I described him in this video as being bombastic. Which he was.
@@karenkoe7096 Yes. Desmond Wilson was blunt and realistic, while being bombastic. Everyone will see the interview through their own lens. I found him at times to be bombastic during the interview, which is not meant to sum up his personality in total.
I agree with the OG 100%. My older sister used to mess up her money on a lifestyle she could not afford, and then try to use me to bail her out. I fell for it a few times then observed her spending. I immediately cut it off once I figured out what was going on. You can mess up your money, but you will not mess up mine. 20 years later, she's still broke and I'm not.
Yes you have to do your due diligence and observe them. Because many times you don't see the spending because they don't call you when they're having the good times. They only want to call you when they run into trouble and need help, THEN your name is first on the list!
I lived thru this. Redd, on camera told the tv executives just how he felt about what he was receiving in the way of salary and he felt insulted when they gave him a case of alcohol (brandy or something similar). He read them the riot act, during prime time and refused to re-up his contract. Those are the episodes when Grady stepped in. The ratings were high and he deserved his share. Sometime between season 3 and early 4 they worked things out and he returned to the show. He later got into tax trouble with the IRS and Frank Sinatra bailed him out. Before long he was in the same trouble, old habits die hard. When the IRS came this time they took everything! Jewelry, awards, furniture, house, etc! Asian wife left him. He was ALL OVER TV begging for help. Calling out folks like Eddie Murphy, saying, “You have millions, you can’t help me!” He called out a few other folks, somehow Eddie’s stand out, because by this time I no longer felt sorry for him, I was thinking, didn’t Frank just bai you out. I thought, what makes you think they are responsible for you. Everyone has their struggles. Anyway, Eddie helped him by creating a sitcom for him and Della Reese and putting them in Harlem Nights. I watch SS every night, never miss a show! My dad was the spitting image of him, attitude, behavior, his speech, mannerisms, you name it. I knew of Redd Foxx thru Malcom X, when he was a dish washer at Smalls Paradise in Harlem. He was a product of his socialization and didn’t grow beyond that, not even from his mistakes.
Great actor and extremely underrated. The network completely underestimated how much the audience loved LaMont. Demond is an inspiration as a person. Awesome interview, thanks for sharing with us.

Mr. Demond Wilson really showed how he was raised respecting elders, never tell elder what to do, take counsel from them. It showed how he was raised by good people, on how to show respect to someone who is older than you.
Amazing to hear real talk about the people involved with this iconic 70's sitcom. A dominant one of a kind show that hit the mark striking comic gold. Sanford & Son often breached the racial barrier with comedy no holds barred, nobody was safe from insult, a miraculous comedy achievement that Redd, Demond and crew made look easy. Only the best for Demond, may God continue to bless you and yours.
Wow, sorry to hear Red lost everything but this brings it into perspective, I feel the same way as Demond, you can’t enable bad behavior and expect good results.
Wow, amazing point blank in your face Honest interview. Demonds Truth and life advice is so uplifting. His time in Vietnam as a 11Bravo grunt getting drafted and serving his country 🇺🇸 without a wimper demands respect. I was drafted and served in a Nam as a 11Bravo Grunt in 1970. A refreshing interview. I was a big fan of the show & had no idea Demond was still alive. Personal responsibility/accountability is a huge part of my makeup.
He's speaking the truth but I don't understand the lack of empathy unless there is something deeper than we know. To each his own and thanks for the memories Demond.
He said it in the interview. He doesn't have empathy for ppl who do things to themselves...so I'm assuming that Demond like many others told fox to pay his taxes...Redd just choose not to do it.
Same here… if we can have empathy for criminals and drug addicts who technically did it to themselves, we can have it for Redd without condoning the behavior. I’m glad he was real about it, it’s a valuable lesson
@Mike-cq5ex For sure he speaks with wisdom but it makes him seem very cold and uncaring about a man he spent so much time with. Also he is delusional if he thinks Redd did not help him. Redd was the show, no one knew Demond or cared about him back then-he was the dummy, the straight man. Great interview. I agree with Demond Wilson 100%. Redd Foxx was a grown man. Plenty old enough to be responsible for his own actions. Losing everything and dying broke was Redd's fault. He was a very funny and talented comedian and should have done a better job managing his money. I am just an average Joe, and I pay my taxes every year. Redd should have paid his. No adult, working person is above paying their taxes. You told it like it was, Demond. God bless you and best wishes. 👌
Wow. Even though most of us who grew up watching the show may be disappointed that Demond didnt say "Redd was my mentor I looked up to him and followed him", you have to respect him for give us the truth.
I think it is sad that Redd left us as he did. All that said I have to say I loved the show and all his old comedy, even the comedy that was called comedy records which were hard to find in the early 60s. Demond is a good person and what he says is from a very close perspective. I wish there had been more comedy from Demond because he was loved by millions of Americans who appreciated a good laugh. Long life to Demond and stay well

I have seen people like Redd Foxx in my personal life and Mr. Wilson is right. And many times you can’t tell them anything because they won’t listen. They are surrounded by people who are telling them everything they want to hear and not what they need to hear. All that would have happened is Mr. Wilson getting cussed out by Redd Foxx. Mr. Wilson stayed in his lane and he probably did so because he knew Foxx well enough to know what to do and what not to do.
Exactly you can't tell them anything they won't listen. Like all these homeless people that a lot of politicians and regular people think they got drug problems. They will never admit that they have drug problems. You're wasting your time with them.
My father was exactly like this. He surrounded himself with people that would tell him what he wanted to hear and not what he needed to hear. If you told him what he needed to hear, you would get a tongue lashing. Didn't like when people told him what to do and the consequences of what will happen if he didn't change course. You can talk until you are blue in the face and they still wouldn't listen. They'll just laugh at you when you are at the point of frustration and exhaustion. My father always learned things the hard way and never learned from his mistakes. Now, he lives alone and is in bad health. His so called friends wouldn't lift a finger to help him. When you make your bed, you have to lie in it. Yes, life is about choices, and sometimes we make bad choices. However, we must learn from our mistakes and change course, not stay the course until you reach the point of no return.
I knew Redd personally and he was never a nice man. I was 14 and he tried to seduce me. I ran away and never told my parents about their houseguest. This is for real.
I feel the exact same way, why should I fell sympathy for someone who could've done what they suppose to do, & Not do it. If Redd died Broke it was his own fault.
John is typical of today's educated youth...they honestly believe they are the smartest person in the room. I have a 30 year old well educated and well paid daughter, she's amazed that I can talk and chew gum at the same time let alone raise her and put her through college. 😂😂😂
Say that shiii…I truly can’t stand his interviewing. He’s terrible imo. Finally a guest that had the balls to tell him straight up no chaser! He lacks so much in the way of charisma, understanding and overall awareness. I love the guest that come to the platform but John seemingly always takes away from the dialogue instead of elevating the conversations. This had the potential to be more viral than Covid but due to his lack of, well, lack of everything, it will do a lot less numbers. I swear so many of these folks with podcasts or shows do not have the credentials to be in the lane they are in. SMH
Demond needed a different type of interviewer. I know that Comedy Hype is geared for the younger generation, but they might try to find older, more established interviewer who could handle these older legends.

Demond took a lot of guts to be totally honest... So, lets respect that... He never said he loved him... He didn't dislike Red...But, he basically was saying Red was just somebody he worked with... I was so excited to see Demond Wilson. What great gentleman. Sanford & Son & All in The Family best sitcoms in TV history.

@@SDC1949 they problem was people or hangers on, were taking advantage of him, but he was a big boy and should have known better, my dad always said there's 2 people you don't want mad at you and that's God and the IRS. It was back taxes that ruined him
Brother Jon - These interviews w/Mr. Wilson are fire - Love your humility and your willingness to Listen - Demond is opening up a door of Hollywood History that is unparalleled in its honesty/truth/and sobering observation - Demond Wilson is a great actor - I admire you both - s/o to Demond - I believe his Dad lived in Esplanade Gardens - The Harlem co-op that produced Loon (Amir) - Troy Johnson and Guy Wood (5001 Flavors) - Puff - and - Myself - Keep Rising to the Top my Brother - You are one of the best - if not The Best - interviewers of your Generation - GOD Bless you
He said a lot of other famous people came from there, Frankie Lymon, the man from mod squad and some other people
Who cares what people want to hear. I want to know what actually happened. When people self-destruct, most of them have pride. A prideful person can't be helped. They have to learn the hard way. This was an amazing interview.
“A prideful person can’t be helped.” 💎
God used you to put out that message for me to read! Asé! TY!
@@RichmondStar510 many blessings to you.
That's what I said. Who cares what people want to hear?
Damon is real with his way of thinking and i respect that
I feel the exact same way, why should I fell sympathy for someone who could've done what they suppose to do, & Not do it. If Redd died Broke it was his own fault.
😳 Demond Wilson completely schooled John Abba with his lack of proper research, gossippy questions, dramatic sassy approach and annoying vocal fry.
Fr! John is a Terrible Interviewer!!😂 he got Exposed Badly.. had to cut it down into Damage Control size Pieces
😮 Damn
SMH
Mr. Wilson is keeping things real.
'Sandford & Son' was one of my favorite shows and it still is. I still watch it on Tubi.
Glad to see Demond Wilson is still alive and looking well.
Mr. Wilson is a real man. Loved watching him act when I was a little kid.
Demond needed a different type of interviewer. I know that Comedy Hype is geared for the younger generation, but they might try to find older, more established interviewer who could handle these older legends.
I think it’s very much needed. It’s interesting to see the difference of mindsets between 2 totally different generations.
Lol you’re not going to get any one that’s going to handle some one like Demond Wilson
@@GinoCorleone Two people come to mind; Ed Gordon and Roland Martin. Both would have been better because both do their homework. Plus Ed and Roland being older and wiser than this youngster would have pushed back. When Demond said he had observed Jon for five minutes reading notes indicated he was looking for a fight.
Love his honesty! Much respect!
I love Demond Wilson. He’s straight up like myself. He always speaks true facts! 👍🏼
