- I had some bad hesitation on acceleration on my truck. had new plugs, wires, clean injectors. i had also went back to check spark on these things to make sure they were still working correctly, and made a video of how to remove and clean EGR valve on 2000 Ford Ranger V6 3.0. this seem to fix the hesitation issue after my test drive.
Love the way you corrected yourself about screws and nuts many mechanics today, you hear them say take this screw off and so forth they need to use the proper terms
I constantly “screw “that up. Hahahhahaha
Cleaned the egr valve off my 99 3.0 4x4 and it seems like it actually works. My truck seemed kind of sluggish when taking off. Now it seems to have woke from its sleep thanks again
Do you loose power shifting into 4th then loose more power in 5th. Ty. I'm beating my head against the wall. 3.0 flex fuel manual
@@corysturgis6660 yes...there's another video that shows the cable to the gas pedal having some play I added some zip ties like I'm the video and it helped has more power dont have too floor the gas pedal all the way too keep her in 4th or 5th up a hill
I'll double check but I think it's responding correctly. Thank you
@@corysturgis6660 ok
@@luisparamo9402 did your EGR code or check engine light come on? I have no codes or check engine light. Thank you
Clean it with an artist brush or Qtips and a good solvent. Pull a vacuum on it and verify the diaphragm is good and not leaking down. Replace the gasket as well.
Have a 99 3.0 flex fuel 5 speed. Loose power in 4th and more in 5th. Replaced engine coolant temp sensor, Mass air flow sensor, fuel pump, tested regulator. Pulled exhaust and catylitic converter. New plugs and wires. New thermostat. Truck takes forever to warm up too. Thank you everyone
Cory Sturgis do a compression test!
Vacuum test!
If those are good, you might have a bad transmission
@@raiderman28 ty
Replaced throttle positioning sensor and it improved the power but can. Still feel drop in power in 4th and 5th gear. Didn't do compression test. It's only the 3.0 engine. Not much power to Begin with. Anyone with same issue . Do resistance test on tps sensor or voltage test
Cory Sturgis have you checked the fuel injectors?
I the clutch was failing. Replaced it. Truck is underpowered. Have to shift at high rpms to have any power.
Clutch pedal assembly was wire out and stopped my new clutch from working a few weeks after installing. Thank you for getting back to me. Happy new year
Get a Hopp's universal gun cleaning kit comes with all kinds of brass brushes you would find useful in automotive
There is also a diagram filter located on passenger side of vehicle ( middle part of the engine) this is like a filter( metal). Has a special retainer clip and it gets dirty. If you take truck in dirt roads alot,it might need to be cleaned out
Thanks now I know how to do it myself and save my self some money
I use cotton swabs to clean out tight spaces. . Good video From Sacramento
Robert Davis good idea
I have a 3.0 Vulcan motor... But those EGR valves must be replace when the rubber boot In side fucks up. Cleaning it sometimes won't make a damn difference.
You are correct, sometimes cleaning it doesn’t work, thats why we tried to clean it first, to see if this made any difference, and helped at all. Don’t want to just throw parts at a repair
@@raiderman28 the proper test is to see if it seals are good, if so then cleaning is a good idea, if you clean it knowing it wont seal then its a lost cause brother.
@@grayfox-msx2940 actually if it was running bad and get better then you probably found the issue, and replace the whole thing with new gasket
Ahem... Chris Fix advises that you can test the diaphragm that powers this valve by compressing it with your fingers and then stopping up the vacuum input with your thumb. It should hold the vacuum.
You can test it like he says!!! This is a video of cleaning it out.
Hey Raul love the video I definitely going to subscribe to your channel very intuitive show and tell with clear straight forward showing of the process bleed the folks like you man Amen. I was wondering if I have a Mazda B4000 V6 4.0 and it's running real rigidly on the take off to 3rd gear and it with a right gas pedal touch i can smoothly run it to where it's not banging it to death. I though wonder if that the 3 things you suggest do indeed need cleaned and properly checked. I also wonder if it's also a heating or cooling sensor gone bad cause my temp gauge isn't functioning? I'm at my wits end I just got the thing and it on the first test drive I drove it and it ran fine as can be but it's had lil mishaps I couldn't possibly had knew about if anything you could suggest if definitely be grateful and thankful man.
Joe Allen i would definitely clean out the 3 things mentioned, maybe even fuel injection cleaner. Check your coolant temperature sensor. Beyond that it’s beyond my expertise
I have a 1992 ford ranger it ack like it runs out of gas I changed the fuel pump and filter and pressure switch and it still acts like it's running out of gas could it be the Ignition modulator
There is also a diagram filter located on passenger side of vehicle ( middle part of the engine) this is like a filter( metal). Has a special retainer clip and it gets dirty. If you take truck in dirt roads alot,it might need to be cleaned out
Raul Romo could you go into more detail on that “diagram filter” my truck just cuts out a lot when taking off especially when i get to about less than half a tank, and going up hills, i replaced the fuel filter and fuel pump about a year ago and put 10k on them I don’t think either of them could be causing it since they were replaced
Steven Barrett maybe a fuel injector. I had one go bad on me.
good post nice job
I have a Mazda b3000 I just finished changing the catalytic converters I cleaned out the idle sensor mass air sensor throttle body change out all spark plugs and wires including the coil and it still seem to be running sluggish and the rpm stay a little high at this point I don’t know what to do
Loz HTOWN have to check the compression and fuel system.
Change your pcv valve
Change torque converter. Ford makes the worst torque converters. When talking about sluggish or low power the torque converter is often overlooked.
Yah, I always put the bolts/nuts on the battery or the cowl or the air cleaner or the fender. Why put them in a magnetic dish where they will not get lost. Then later found. This is why there are two/three/four nut/bolt drawers in every mechanics tool box.
very true. this is my truck and i am very careful not to lose any bolts or nuts.
What would be the symptoms of a clogged or bad egr valve? I have a 2001 ranger 3.0 v6 with a knocking/crackling sound after it reaches normal opperatating temperature with a loss of power and no code.
juans daone some rangers on the passenger side ( bolt snaps at the exhaust) this causes a werid noise from the exhaust gasket rubbing It could be something else, but this is what i have ran into
clogged or bad EGR valve you get alot of surging of the engine, RPM up and down. I don't think knocking and crackling sound is do to that. make sure the exhaust gasket bolts are not loose or broken (passenger side where there is like a metal bracket). mine has a similar noise as it warms up sometimes, and i noticed a broke bolt at the exhaust, so the exhaust manifold is not completely tight, and this causes the metal gasket to rub back and forth and make some horrible crackling sounds, but not knocking. that could be a rod inside the engine. loss of power could be due to a bad engine rod or it could also be a plugged catalytic converter. your problem sounds a bit more serious than i can help you with on here. you might want to take it in to a mechanic.
Awesome man thanks for the feedback and I'll look into the snapped bolt thing. Thank you!
Sounds like bad connecting rod bearings
was there a gasket on it? kinda looked like it...if so, shouldn't it be replaced?
buttlescutt I don't think I took one off, but it might have stayed on one side, so I didn't replace it. If it tears, you will have to replace it
I have a ford ranger 2011, runs fine but just slow start , is like dont have power when i press the pedal, it is because is 4 cylinders?. Changed air filter, cleaned maf. Any ideas
ARMANDO HERNAN is your oil clean ( no water in it?). Does it smoke at all? You have to check spark, and compression
@@raiderman28 .no smoke, water on oil maybe not i take it to the dealer for oil change and they check it, but truck have a small leak on cooling pipe or the radiator, cannot find where exactly but is in that area.i bought it like that..
My car only acts up when stopping or coming to a complete stop the egr warning light I think that's, what it's called ( 2 lines and, red lighting bolt) pops up and CSR shakes a bit and acts like it wants to die or just dies
Kevin Mcclane i would start by replacing your EGR valve, clean throttle body, clean mass air flow sensor, clean air box and replace air filter. These trucks also have abwerid little metal filter on the opposite side of the truck. Kind of hidden. When i use to drag our baseball fields back in the day my truck all of a sudden start to shut off out if the blew. A code came up, don’t remember the code, but usually shit off at stops, but would start right up. It would act like it needs gas. Well this diaphragm filter was the issue. It has a special C clip to open it up. Maybe clean it out and air blow out the filter or replace. I replaced mine, but it was a special order from the ford dealer. Good luck
Can you describe a more exact placement or location of this metal screen/filter?
I have 2000 Ranger 3.0 v6 Flex and it's not showing any MIL/CEL, idle is fine, stutters under load and has extreme loss of power. Some days it drives just fine like nothing wrong. Husband said "it seems worse when engine is cold it does the dut-dut-dut jerking harder" 🤦♀️🤷♀️
I've changed air filter & cleaned air box out, brand new MAF.
@@JenniferFuchek did you find the Filter cause I have the same issue
What do you do when your EGR valve is stuck to the pipe it screwed to and when you turn it it just wants to twist the whole pipe instead of breaking loose even after torch heat on the nut.
@@JeffMitchell365 might have to replace the EGR Valve and the pipe if you can’t separate them.
@@JeffMitchell365 i believe it goes into the upper intake. The nut has to be heated. If you can’t get that nut off the intake, you will have to replace the upper intake complete. Thats sucks
I have ford ranger 2007 3.0 4x4 automatic transmission, it seems normal in 2000rpm, but when it comes higher to that, it starts to hesitate and rpms fluctuates, or moves back to lower rpm, what does this causes? No check engine.. in addition to that i have another problem, engine suddenly stops or shut off while driving, and all dashboard signs appears, and when I start the car again it seems it has no problem or normal again..can you help me find that problem?
Read the other comments. Some info in there
I have 2000 Mazda B2500SE 2.5L | 4cyl - EGR Valve is to the rear of engine between the fire wall IAC & Manifold, really difficult to access, do you know the size of that big nut? Think I will try the vise grip pliers. Thanks for the helpful video.
Ax4400 i don’t know the size of the nut. All i know, is that I didn’t have that size tool in my toolbox
not sure the nut size, you can use vise grips or channel locks
Ax4400
Would this work on any vehicle?
Not any vehicle, but its a good place to start and check, if your vehicle has these parts
I know this is an older video but I have a 2001 mazda b3000 and it has pretty rough acceleration at like 2.5 rpm and it's starting to get rougher and rougher sometimes will knock I've heard egr valve or the speed sensor
Professor Yak speed sensor? That shouldn’t affect the idle. Maybe the idle control valve, but that’s usually if the truck idles high. Clean the egr or replace, make sure you have good spark plugs, wires and clean air filter, and fuel filter. I had my truck idle really bad and it was one of the injectors, but my check engine light came on and i was able to see a misfire and diagnose it
@@raiderman28 i have a mazda b2300 2001 and when drive on a hill she almost dont move and slowly get power again its like someting stuck somewhere, new ignition, throttle body , mass maf sensor and air valvea are cleaned
i see your 27mm that you uscrewed it from is perfect. when its rusted to pieces how in god's name do you undo that bolt?
I usually use a penetrating spray and let it soak for awhile, even sometimes spraying it a few times in a few hours. I have done it that with other rusted bolts. Wd40 will work but they have some stuff is even better. PB blaster is pretty good, and liquid wrench is also good.
@@raiderman28 okay thanks. i did try wd-40, but i will try one of those.
I’ve took out my cluster & the gear was not broken. Both of my odometer n speedometer aren’t working. I then took off the speed sensor on my rear diff lock but it was not broken n I wiped off. But still nothing is working.. any help? 98 ford ranger 4x4 v6 3.0.
FOPEZ ‘ check your ABS sensors.
Raul Romo i replaced it. I have to look at the wiring going to the speedometer & odometer I think something burnt out.
Thanks man
I have a 2000 b3000 bud,had the dead speedometer and sputter like low fuel,to my surprise it was wiring harness plug under drivers side.youll have to pull the seat.remove bolt to the plug.water gets inside and rots the pins.my fuel pump ground and speedometer wire rotted off.
Not sure if the egr is in the same location, but cleaning it is the same

I have A 1994 ford ranger 4.0 it idles hi floods and takes while run normal I live in small town where there isn’t any good mechanics any help would be awesome and greatly appreciated
Randell Berkeley you might have a bad idle control valve or egr valve
@@raiderman28 thank you for the help I’ll look into it. appreciate it
I have a 97 and shake a lot when is in park.driving is fine.... Im not sure what's the problem.
Gerardo Crespo you might have a vacuum leak somewhere. You should have a mechanic do a smoke test.
I have a 2000 ranger and when I start to reverse the truck hesitates and feels like it’s bouncing
Same here I wonder why?
I have a 2000 ford ranger v6 4.0 and sometime when I'm driving and stop at a red light everything seems normal but when I accelerate to move it starts to shake and my tuck goes very slow. What could be the cause of this?
Hector Torres i would start with a basic tune up. Sounds like you might have a clogged air filter, egr valve, or dirty throttle body. You can clean the last two and just replace the air filter and ( clean inside the air box with a vacuum. If it’s not one of these things, could be a clogged injector or bad injector. I had that happen to me. A bad injector on the passenger side. Luckily that’s the easy ones to get to.
Hector Torres possibly a few things, start with the basics, air cleaner, plugs and wires, clean throttle body, clean EGR valve. But it might be a bad fuel injector.
Raul Romo sometimes the exhaust gas from the egr starts leaking into the coolant pressurizing the system making the truck run bad.
Hector Torres hey man my truck does the same thing did you ever fix it and what was it
Mine does the same thing. Going to clean the EGr and throttle body later tonight
Is this the same process in a 4 cylinder truck?
Jonathan Maldonado not sure, but it should be similar
Raul Romo If it's the 2.3 motor the EGR is in the back of the motor by the firewalls.
No new gasket, smh jesus
I was doing this to see if it helped the issue, which it did. The gasket was in good condition and wasn’t cracked. But you can replace the gasket for sure. I was going to get a new EGR valve and that comes with a new gasket in a week or too when i had the money to do it. But you should replace the gasket if it falls apart or has any cracks in it.
a cop "sprayed me on the nuts" once, burned like hell fire.
You need an 8mm bolt to take screws off? If you hadn't said take this cover and move it out of the way I wouldn't have known how to see under it... And thanks for telling us to move over here... I would have kept working in the same spot.
Your 10mm Nuts look like bolts! All that swirling your video looks like it was done under water (NEVER LET RUclips FIX YOUR SHAKY VIDEO!) COTTON SWAB Duh!
If you're going to take the EGR off... JUST REPLACE IT!
phartattack hahhaah my bad. 8mm socket.

I have a 1992 ford ranger it ack like it runs out of gas I changed the fuel pump and filter and pressure switch and it still acts like it's running out of gas could it be the Ignition modulator
Steven Barrett is it carburetor or fuel injection? If fuel injected make sure air filter is clean and so is air box. , clean throttle body and mass air flow if equipped with one. Check to make sure injectors are working. You can buy a cheap kit at harbor freight to check the signal at each one. Do you have any codes?? If carbureted, a lot more difficult to figure out. Make sure that you have correct fuel pressure at the main line under the hood. I had replaced a fuel pump only to find out later that the little hose that goes on the actual pump had a tear. I had to drop the gas tank again, I I didn’t have any fuel up front.
