Love the project! that's awesome. Your table saw portion made me SUPER nervous for your safety.
Why wouldn't you spray paint your wood before you put it in your laser and risk getting it on anything? Doesnt make sense.
One reason is that by painting the pieces after cut (if painting in black or another dark color), you can paint the burnt edges and they won't be seen. Otherwise, painting the material before cutting, the burnt edges don't look very good.
