Just wanted to add to the dis recommendation about the langos in the Central Market Hall, a simple langos with sour cream and cheese costs there 3400 HUF and a special langos with toppings costs 6000-6500. That's crazy. And also the langos in the budapest zoo is good, about 1900 HUF and very good.
Absolutely. I love the Central Market Hall for it's vibe and how the building looks, but it's no longer a regular market hall, the prices are way too high for the average local.
my cousin comes from Hungary and we have had langos many times. I love it when it is just rubbed with a clove of garlic and then sprinkled with salt. :) I am also going to Hungary for the first time in August (from Australia) and cannot wait to see it.
The best langos I had is in Köbanya, 1250 HUF and the owner is always very happy to serve me even though my Hungarian is terrble. Fluffy inside, crunchy outside and she puts extra sajt and tejföl for me. :) It looked a lot like the one you showed at the market. All others felt like tourist langos. :)
We visited Budapest in december and went to Krumplis lángos in Flórián tér - it was so nice and well worth the trip outside the city centre 🎉 Also tried lángos papi but it felt very subpar compared to Krumplis. Thank you for the great recipe btw, we followed it a few weeks ago and it was really tasty 👏
I first had Langos the first time I visited Hungary 36 years ago. The memory never left me, so when i visited Budapest twice last year i obviously had to have it again. Well....here I am, craving langos yet again
@@Dillbendy If you're already gonna fry it at home, might as well just make the dough from scratch. It's really simple and it's a great, filling and very cheap food option for a weekend or whatever. I'm Hungarian myself, my family is in the minority cooking traditional foods at home all the time, we just don't understand how lángos became such a big deal all over the world, it's just a piece of fried bread dough, most of the meal comes from the toppings. It takes some practice to make, as it's a higher hydration bread though than the usual and not easy to handle, but you just practice it a couple of times and you're good to go, not like an ugly lángos would be any worse tasting than a pretty one. It's really not that hard, I'm not saying that just for myself, it really is not hard, make it 4-5 times and you'll be frying street food quality lángos at home.
My first langos was at lake Balaton as a child…simple with salt or sugar. We still enjoy it quite simple when I make it, we rub it with a bit of fresh garlic while hot from the oil, then sprinkle with salt. Your videos are wonderful helping me to plan a return trip, finally to my father’s home country. Thank you!
Yum! My nagymama would make lángos (but, in a pan with oil not deep fried) to go with gulyas on snowy winter days (My granddparents and mum emigrated to Canada in 1956). We would not add cheese - we would rub it with fresh garlic then add sour cream that had been warmed in a bit of butter. So healthy 🤣I make if for myself once in a while but everything was better with her ❤
Do you know maybe why your grandma had adapted the lángos recipe that way? Gulyás (meaning the soup, not the meat stew) is usually eaten with a slice of bread in Hungary.
@@erzsebetkovacs2527 We usually had gulyás with bread but, after skiing, she would make lángos too. I don't generally eat whilst skiing so I am always starved at the end of the day.
I mean the Classic is classic for a reason. Though I will say that I once had Lángos with a bunch of red peppers on top. The peppers were prepared in some way, not quite sure how. What I am sure of, is that it was delicious :)
Love langos! Retek Bisztro was the first one I ever had and set the standard. Was so desperate to have another one before leaving Budapest we stopped in at Marika Langos - a little kiosk in a car park in Vecses, 5 mins from the airport. Hit the spot!
The one in Retek Bisztro looked very interesting, especially as a "Starter" :D And I am not suprised that a Lángos in a car park hits the spot... the further from tourist hotspots, the more authentic the Lángos :D
Your videos are informative and super entertaining! And everything In the video is very well said. First time in Budapest I tried market Langos it was amazing, second time was retro langos which was ok nothing special and third time in Budapest after your video I went to Langos papi because you said it was crispy and I liked the idea, indeed it was great! So whoever wants a traditional Langos yes market ones are the best option if you are a crispy fanatic like me then Langos papi is your place!
Back after visiting Budapest and tried langos at Iconic Gulyás Lángos, sure downtown, but expensive and not the best taste. My favourite langos was at Hunyadi Square Market, low price and very tasty.
I walk passed that place many times when I visit the Basilica (Iconic Gulyás Lángos), can definately see that it may be a tourist trap. But I can absolutely agree with the Hunyadi Market Hall, that is just simple, oldschool and delicious 😊
Me and my husband are so excited that we discovered your channel. We are going to Budapest at the beginning of March and all these tips and info are helpful. We both visited Budapest before but it is always better to have some advice from a local since we are interested in food and not all the typical tourist stuff. We are both from Romania but my husband is Hungarian and knowing the language will make the experience even better and fun. I am so excited about it! :)
Thanks for the kind message! Happy to hear these videos are helpful! It's also nice to hear you come back to Budapest after visiting before, I hope your holiday here in March will bring many joyful experiences :)
First of all, thanks for your videos 🙏🏻😉 These are, in my opinion, the best you can get here on youtube to get more knowledge about Budapest. In the last 2 years i was 4 times in your beautiful city. And yes, in the small, non popular markethall near citycenter is a very tasty langos. My personal favorite place was the retro langos. Very nice staff and a huge selection of different toppings. The included bar is also nice where you can enjoy a drink. In the first week of march i will be back again in budapest and then i have to try this new one at gozsdu. Thanks for this tip. 👍🏻😉
I've visited Budapest three times and I'm coming back for Easter this year. For my first visit five years ago, we stayed by the Dohány street Synagogue (which is beautiful, i highly recommend a visit) and around the corner we found Drum Cafe - it is definitely focused on tourists, but has decent prices and in my opinion, their langos is great. They dont skimp on the cheese, it's not too garlicky, and there are plenty of options for toppings. we have come back there every time we are back in the city, we go back and its just as good as it was the first time ❤
I tried classic langos with cheese and sour cream(there is several toppings, which you can choose) at first place from the video. Between, there was just wonderful polite cook, and can tell - it's just not my cup of tea. I'm not a fan of grease food, but I really attempted to give langos a chance. Anyway, this is a good video, which reminds me of my last visit to this beautiful city. Thx
Thank you so much for Sharing! I can definately understand why greasy food may not be favored by all. What matters is that you gave it a shot! And without trying things, you may leave some nice things on the table, so trying new stuff is good, even if in the end those may not win you over :)
Thank you again for another awesome video! Thank you for the history and for the information you shared. My husband and I absolutely fell in love with Lángos on our last visit to Budapest.
I was there 3 weeks ago. Watched your videos beforehand and went to many cool places during my visit. Definitely coming back in the summer❤ beautiful country and beautiful people❤
Your videos are simply wonderful!🏅Thanks for your creativity and excellent information. We're watching all your videos in preparation for our first trip to Budapest. Greetings from Vancouver, Canada. 🍁🇨🇦🍁
I LOVE the fact that is lowkey a 'best coffee in budapest' video, too. Your videos are awesome dude. I am going back to Budapest in March to see Meshuggah and I'll be hitting some of these places up.
I miss langos! I miss it so much! I ate so much when I visited and think about it often. Just a fantastic snack that hits the spot! I can't wait to return!
Yo! Greetings from the States. I thought I would reach out and thank you for such an awesome channel and videos. Your channel has become one of our favorites in our house, and my girls (9 and 11) love your videos as well. Keep it up, and if whenever I am in Budapest I am buying you and the producer a beer (or 3)!
Many thanks for another excellent video! For me only sour cream/cheese! And with jam for kids. Also thanks for previous vids about public transport and places to eat traditional food. I asked for it in comments and now I feel honored. All the best for you and your beautiful wife!
Just commenting based on profile pic, if you're ever in Subotica center there's a really good lángos place near the main pošta office on the other side of the road.
Sajtos - Tejfolos langos is definetely my favorite but oddly enough I've never had langos in Budapest. I usually have it when I go visit family in the countryside. Last year I had it in Nyiregyhaza at the lake and it was quite tasty! I've always wanted to make langos at home but finding Trappista cheese in the states can be difficult and unfortuntately using a substitute just isn't the same.
I read that perhaps Dutch Edam or American Monterey Jack could be perhaps a substitute for Trappista. But I can see why it's hard to substitute... Fun Fact... when I was a child I always tought that Trappista is called that way because some guy called Pista (which is the nickname in Hungary for István/Stephen) invented the cheese :D
I love the classic langos with sourcereme and cheese, but also with some spice and non spice herbs on it.. Having the white cheese & souercreme together with spicy herbs (red) and chives (green) also gives a nice symbol of the Hungarian flag. In my hometown is each ear a world food fair, there i always take langosh, also we have all 2 years a medieval festival in my hometown where you get langos... and every time when i am in Hungary in holiday I buy langos and other Hungarian food
My favourite lángos are still the ones that my grandmother and my aunt Mariska made. Oh and the ones from the lángos stand on the beach of Alsóőrs … Talking about the 70’s and 80’s now. The only topping available in those days was salt-garlic (sós-foghagymás), all the other toppings came later and are a bit of a touristy thing to me. Though I love the sour cream-cheese (tejfölös-sajtos) topping. About the dough, that was much more fluffier in the days. With large air bubbles in it, creating very crispy bits alternating with softer bits, giving a much less compact lángos. I suspect they use less yeast these days and don’t give it enough time to rise. Or they may even use baking soda instead of yeast. I don’t know, but I always try to make it the old fashioned way that I learned from helping grandma. I think I come close, but in my memory her’s were better still. At least the kids (and adults alike) over here go crazy when I announce I’m going to make lángos … I’m not an expert on lángos stands in Budapest but the Ligeti lángos stand in the Városliget (Állatkerti krt. right across the street from the zoo) is the best in the opinion of my family, friends and me.
I was in Budapest for a long weekend and I can confirm that Gozsdu Lángos Bistro was very tasty! We had a traditional lángos and one with red onions (with a couple of beers, ofc). Food and service were great! Thanks for the recommendation!
As a keen language learner it made me laugh the way the guy at Lángos Papi spoke to you back in English even though you spoke to him in Hungarian as a native speaker. Now you understand what foreigners have to face. I think maybe Lángos Papi is aimed at tourists and it's no surprise they weren't quite as nice. I also noticed his hand written sign 'mulled wine and hot tea' were in English only. That's always a red flag to me. If the signs are only in English I avoid them totally. So I'll give Lángos Papi a miss when I'm in Budapest in November.
Thank you for taking me back to your beautiful city!! My husband and I were there just this past November. We had langos at Retro!! It was fabulous. Your videos were helpful in planning our trip. We cannot wait to return and have langos again.
Glad to hear you are thinking about coming back to Budapest! Happy to hear we can help with your planning, and I hope you can return soon to have some more lovely experiences here :)
Hi @Akos, Deep thanks for your channel which I discovered recently. Our trip to Hungary has not started yet however your videos helped a lot..👍🏼 We will taste the suggestions of you soon. The channel is addressing a missing market!! Great job 👏🏼👍🏼💪🏼
Hola. En un mes estaremos por Budapest, y gracias a tu vídeo y consejos ya sabemos donde probar los lángos. Gran trabajo y muy buen vídeo. Un saludo!!! 🤍💙💛
In Romania langos has the stuffing inside and I think it's much better because it's also baked with the dough making the stuffing part of the langos not just a toping
Awesome video as always! My favourite Lángos is from UFO Lángos, a tiny hole in the wall joint just beside Opera on Hajós utca. They sell a killer gulyásleves too. But they were closed the last couple of times we visited, not sure if they have closed permanently 😢
UFO Lángos is a nice mention, I heard good stuff about the place and wanted to visit, but read on Facebook that they closed for some time first due to some illness and now due to some company dealings. Fingers crossed they can open again soon!
In Croatia, langoš/langos is pretty widespread and seen on every festival, which comes as no surprise since we shared so much history together. In different regions it is also known under different names such as "placke", which is the only name I knew as a kid, so "langos" came as a surprise when I keep noticing it on every stall. I am mentioning this because "placke" I had in my childhood were less traditional Hungarian (more of a regional variety), slightly thicker, and you could top it with pretty much anything, sour or sweet. As a small kid, I absolutely loved placke with home-made jam and as an older kid, I loved eating them with pate . Yeah, that would probably make an average Hungarian mad :) My favourite langos today is true Hungarian one, the same thickness of the first one in this video, with sour cream and garlic. So much more traditional, and less triggering for Hungarians :D Also, when visiting Skopje, I've noticed that you could easily find Langos sold on stalls. EDIT: didn't watch the whole thing before commenting ,paused on the part when you asked us about langos. Good to know that jam isn't too weird :D
I think Lángos and the other similar items in the region - like the "placke" - are a great proof of our shared history and how each culture has inspired each other. As I noted in the video there are some interesting twists (like the jam, nutella etc.) and anyone can enjoy Langos the way they like, but sometimes it unfortunately just becomes a way to charge a higher price... like seriously, when I see Stuffed Cabbage on a Lángos at Christmas Markets, I do get "triggered" :D
@@StuffedCabbageAdventures Hey, thanks for replying. Just this Sunday, I came back from 6-day trip to Budapest. Thanks for all the tips, they were useful. Probably wouldn't visit House of Music if you haven't recommended it, it was a blast. Funny thing is, despite living in a neighbouring country in a town not far from the border, I don't think I ever heard real spoken Hungarian (at least not knowingly), not counting one or two words I heard online while researching for my trip. EDIT: just remembered that I visited Hungary with my parents for shopping way back in the 90ies, but that was so long ago that I hardly remember anything from it. I was positively shocked during my visit to Hungary because I found the language beautiful and I quickly started to grasp basic pronunciation just by using the metro and reading the station names while listening. Somehow, it all made sense. For comparison, Czech is a Slavic language and it makes zero sense to me , I completely gave up on trying to understand it. But Hungarian...today I booked my first online lesson. Didn't train my brain for years :) time to learn a new language.
@@puzzlingcentaurNagyon jó! Örülök. Apám amikor iskolába ment Magyarországon, még nem tudott magyarul, csak horvátul. Neki sikerült... Egy magyarországi horvát, a határ túloldaláról Nagykanizsáról.
Ah, placke, we also call it like that (well, in Bosnia, in Vojvodina it's "mekike"), whenever a bread is prepared, it's a must to make the double the dough to be able to fry placke too. ❤
The best lángos I have ever eaten, that was the Florian tér lángos. And it was just 1250Ft for a cheese-sour cream combo. The best value. I felt like, I've just robbed someone, because it was too cheap for that marvelous thing. It was fantastic!
Hey there! Maybe in the future we may make something like that :) In the meantime we have a video about some of the weekend markets that pop up. Those are fun too :)
Your videos are very helpful, I will be going to Budapest in a couple of months. Also here in Bulgaria we have mekitsa which is very similar to the langos
Although the ambience might be lacking, in terms of price, taste and an old fasioned feel, my vote is for Hunyadi Tér. The fact that I live across the street also helps. :)
Oh, I think Hunyadi tér piac has a nice vibe, even if it doesn't have so many shops, but since it's not super crowded and has essentials, I dig the place :) I envy that you live so close to it :D
Me again 🙈🤗 Can you recommend a restaurant or other place where you can eat really good cabbage rolls or this stuffed cabbage? Thank you.
9 месяцев назад+2
I am sure they can recommend more but I can recommend both Pozsonyi restaurant and Fakanal Restaurant (in Central Market Hall) if you want no-nonsense traditional food and good prices :)
I see Pozsonyi Vendéglő was also mentioned by Dusan, and I can second that, although I didn't have Stuffed Cabbage yet there but they have nice and simple Hungarian cuisine, I am sure they also make Stuffed Cabbage well :) I had stuffed Cabbage in Retek Bistro which is more modern next to traditional, but it was a very interesting way of enjoying it. I would say, Pozsonyi is nice to get oldschool experience and Retek Bistro is good for a contemporary vibe :)
As a native, if I ever go for a non-self made one, my vote would still be on the old stall at Nagy Vásárcsarnok (aka. Great Market Hall) near Fővám tér. Maybe it's just the nostalgia talking. Btw it's surprisingly good with bolognese, too, if you want to try something non-traditional.
P.s. Last time I've been there (2yrs ago)prices were still ok-ish. Now that someone mentioned 3500 HUF for a basic lángos, I'd rather not recommend it anymore.
Is Retro Lángos at a new location? Like across the street from before? I visited them about 5 years ago and then it was just a "hole in the wall". I think it was the same building as the metrostation.
yeah... things that become very very popular can unfortunately turn expensive... luckily there are still a few places in the city that offer it for a reasonable price 😊
Thanks for telling us about some Langlos places. In 2019, friends took us to LÁNGOSOS at Flórián tér aluljáró. I tried the one with tzatziki and was very impressed. Try it and let us know what you think. Stay Fluffy (Eric)
Lángos places at major public transport hubs should be the good oldschool ones, so next time when I am around Flórián tér, I will look out for the Lángos place you've been to :)
Hi, first, thanks for the education of the langos 😊Will visit Budapest next week (coming from svedorszag) and langos is one of the first things to enjoy. But what about topping? Shrimps, ham etc. would be nice, almost like a pizza.
Hey there! There are indeed many topping selections, to be honest Shrimp isn't really common, at least I have never seen one, but Ham for sure is available :) While for most pizza they put the toppings on the dough before it gets cooked, in case of Lángos the dough is cooked first in oil and then the toppings are placed on top if it, but I can see why some people call it the Hungarian Pizza 😊 As we suggest many times in our videos the general way to enjoy Lángos is on its own, with some Garlic paste, or with Sourcream and/or cheese. But if you wish to have some additional toppings, go for it 😊
Lángos rules: It comes from a foodstall, not a restaurant The best ones are made at the worst looking foodstalls Look for a places where it seems like they haven't switched the oil in weeks and the cheese was cut 2 months ago Best food ever
This was a fun vlog. My husband wants to try and make Langos now. LOL On another note. Do you take part in any farang activities? It seems to be a big celebration. Have a good day!
Hey there! Thanks! Making Lángos isn't that hard actually, so good luck to your husband :) Farsang is less celebrated lately it's more like a house party thing, theme for some discos or events for schools. I loved dressing up when I used to go to school :D However one event that is kinda related to the Farsang Season is the Busójárás in the town of Mohács where people dress up in fur and wear masks to scare the winter away. There will be a video about that in the future! :)
@@StuffedCabbageAdventures Yes, I've heard of the Busójárás, and read about them too! We look forward to the video! We've learned a lot though all your videos. Thank you!
Excellent video! For us, the best langos was at Florian ter, we took the bus to this underpass and tried the one at Krumplis. We showed what toppings we wanted using google translate to the sweet ladies in the store and we enjoyed the best langos in Budapest at reasonable prices. Have you guys tried it? Again, kudos for another wonderful video!
The Lángos place at Flórián tér has been mentioned by other people too, so while we haven't tried it yet, it is definately on our list to visit in the future 😊
As a friendly Serbian neighbour and a frequent visitor to Budapest, I have to ask you: Have you ever tried that Szimplakert abomination called Langos burger? Or do you know anyone that had and survived? :D Btw, great channel, I just discovered it.
Hey there! I have not tried the Langos Burger yet, but I don't think it can be that bad, however it would not be better than a regular burger in any way... just another way to make something cost even more than it should 😊 Lángos should be kept simple 😊
Hey there! We have a future plan down the road for such a video but it may be some time to make it happen. In the meantime there were many recommendations for the HappyCow app for phones, I also downloaded it and it does show a lot of nice places where vegan food can be enjoyed :)
Hey there. Just note that Hungary isn't huge on steak. While we do have the grey cattle which is a local special kind of cattle, we tradionally aren't famous for steak so most steakhouses will have import stuff, though you may find Hungarian cuts here and there. I personally like Pampas Steakhouse, or there is Hot stone steakhouse which has this fun gimmick that you get to cook your own steak on a hot lava stone. This isn't for everyone as you will kinda smell smoky afterwards and you kinda need to do your own cooking though the staff can help if needed. I had fun I enjoyed it and food was nice but there are people who feel it's a gimmick where you pay but you cook your own food and that makes sense. So if you feel this is fun, I can recommend it, if not then pampas is nice, not super expensive but not cheap either... Steak isn't cheap around here. 😅
Could be, we actually have a dish that is very similar to flammkuchen and we call that Kenyérlángos, essentially Bread-Lángos. So they can be closely related :)
Thanks for the video. I am a bit confused as you said it was best to go to the market hall for Langos and then you cut in to say don't go to the market halls?! Well done for eating so many!
Hey there! The Great Market Hall or Grand Market Hall is the most famous and popular from all market halls, but its more of a tourist attraction these days then a place I would recommend buying food. This also applies to the Lángos there: Overpriced and not great quality. Other smaller Market Halls (like the ones shown in the video) have excellent offerings when it comes to Lángos :) I hope this clarifies!
Did you miss the best lángos place (Florian Square) so that tourists wouldn't flood it? Thanks for that :) By the way the second best lángos place is in Újpest at SZTK.
Hi, i have a question. I am planning to visit Budapest between 15 and 17th March but i JUST learned that 15th March is a national holiday in Hungary and Budapest. So, should i change my visit time or is it okay to come there in holiday? Will i face any closed regions etc.? (due to holiday?)?
Hey there! During March 15th shops will be closed and public transport will be slightly less frequent but nothing to worry about. Restaurants and bars will be available (some close) but they may be a bit crowded that day. There may be a few areas where some events take place like speeches or wrath laying. In general this shouldn't cause any issues for you, the other days are regular days 😊
The langos looks identical to what is called Indian Fry Bread here in the US. It's commonly served with chili and cheese on top. What kind of cheese do they use that's white?
I used to eat lángos here in Czech republic. But there are less and less places selling it so i didnt have one since I was a child. Im going to Budapest on Monday, som Im really looking forward to eating it again! I really love the markets! I wish we had those in Prague. There are some, but they are not as big and mostly tourist oriented. Im really looking forwards to the visit! I have some questions about the baths - we want to visit Rudas and Széchenyi. But there is either none or weirdly formulated info on the websites. So sorry for maybe awkward questions :) -Can we get the tickets at the place or is it better to buy them online? -Is it worth to get the “private changing room” in Széchenyi or the lockers are good enough? -Does the Rudas “wellness-spa ticket” include the bath on the roof or do we have to get the “ALL IN ticket”? We dont need to visit the turkish bath.
Hey there! Regarding Szechenyi, getting tickets online upfront is more of a convenience than a must. There is a different queue for the Online Booked tickets which is usually shorter, but the other queue only gets long in the most popular hours. So it's not an issue if you buy at the the door when you arrive. In all honesty, I never used the private changing room, the lockers arent huge but we could fit all of our stuff in them. I believe the private changing room perk is good if you do not wish to change in front of others. There is separate changing room with lockers for man and women, but some people still don't wish to change in front of others. Regarding Rudas: I am not sure however the wellness part of the building has the Rooftop pool, so I assume the wellness only ticket has access to that, as the Turkish bath experience doesn't really fit well with the outdoor bath experience. The Turkish bath has only a few days when its coed, most days its men or women only. So in short I believe the Wellness ticket is good for the rooftop pool :)
This is a shame, I was in Prague in 2019 and every other stall was selling "trdelnik", some for prices that could get you a meal in a cheaper restaurant. Not to mention how many of those are found in the trash once tourist find out that they hate them (especially when they are poorly made) so much food wasted :( Both langos and chimney cakes are Hungarian by origin, but langos is so much better. And I am sure that very few would get thrown away :)
I did not like langos from Langos Papi. The best I had was from some random place in Ferenc Krt and the other great one was the one you mentioned in Gozsdu Udvar. Funny thing is, langos does not agree with my stomach at all (it can't stand the combo of fried dough, garlic and dairy), but I still eat it every time I visit because it is just that damn good 😂.
:) I am also going to Hungary for the first time in August (from Australia)
and cannot wait to see it.
I Hope you'll enjoy your first time here in Hungary. August is a nice time to visit even if it may get a bit hot at times :)
First memory of Langos is from 2005, my first visit to Hungary. I ate Langos with sour cream and cheese while at the thermal baths in Harkany!
Happy to hear your Lángos turned out nice and tasty :) Congrats! :)
I am coming to Budapest in December for the Christmas markets. Langos is one of the foods I'm most excited to try. Love your video!
I first had Langos the first time I visited Hungary 36 years ago. The memory never left me, so when i visited Budapest twice last year i obviously had to have it again. Well....here I am, craving langos yet again
You can buy it in frozen balls , defrost and roll out ,then fry 😊
It's greasy and disgusting.
City center I was there and had langos was so nice 👍 thanks for sharing places that I visited
I got so hungry watching this 😂
Thanks for the video
So informative and looks so delicious 😊 thanks for taking a picture of the signs so I could see what toppings you got!
Thank you so much! Glad to hear you liked this video and that it could make you remember the good time when you enjoyed Lángos here in Budapest :)
Thank you so much! :) I hope your first trip to the city will be full of great experiences and you'll make a lot of nice memories here :)
I had one in another city in Hungary and they made it in the oven and it was like a pizza and it was so good
I LOVE the fact that is lowkey a 'best coffee in budapest' video, too. Your videos are awesome dude. I am going back to Budapest in March to see Meshuggah and I'll be hitting some of these places up.
What can I say... I need my regular caffeine intake :D
Thank you so much! So happy to hear your family enjoys what we do! Hope we can welcome you in our city soon :)
Many thanks for another excellent video! For me only sour cream/cheese! And with jam for kids. Also thanks for previous vids about public transport and places to eat traditional food. I asked for it in comments and now I feel honored. All the best for you and your beautiful wife!
Thank you so much for the kind message and the support! Happy to hear we can show things which you enjoy to watch :)
Just commenting based on profile pic, if you're ever in Subotica center there's a really good lángos place near the main pošta office on the other side of the road.
Love the langos!! Back again in two weeks hopefully see you around the city 😊
Hope you1ll have a great time here once again! :) If you happen to see me roaming the streets, feel free to say hi :)
@@StuffedCabbageAdventures always have an amazing time there. For sure will keep an eye out for you! 👌
I loved your channel, I can’t wait to go to Budapest…
I live in Godollo outside Budapest and Feny market always has a big line of locals for the langos! I will have to try it next time!
Godollo is such a nice place and you can so easily visit the palace Elisabeth of Austria frequented :) That's so nice for you :)
@@StuffedCabbageAdventures Hahahaha that's too funny! Thanks for the cheese recommendation. I'll give them a try!
I enjoyed your review and seeing the different places. Looking forward to visiting Budapest in the near future and trying langoso in the marketplace!
The classic, at least when I was a kid in Mohacs, is just fresh out of the hot oil and rubbed with raw garlic and salted.
It's nice to hear that Lángos can make it's way to places all over the world :) And I can see why some herbs can elevate the sourcream's flavor :)
At least the kids (and adults alike) over here go crazy when I announce I’m going to make lángos …
I’m not an expert on lángos stands in Budapest but the Ligeti lángos stand in the Városliget (Állatkerti krt. right across the street from the zoo) is the best in the opinion of my family, friends and me.
Walked close to the Lángos place you mentioned at the Zoo the other day, I'll definately check it out next time I'm around :)
The bird got me 🤣
I really enjoy watching your channel! Such a good energy and the information you share has been so helpful!! I'm excited to visit Budapest in May 😍😍
May is such a nice time to visit! I hope you'll enjoy your stay! :) Thanks for the kind message!
I was in Budapest for a long weekend and I can confirm that Gozsdu Lángos Bistro was very tasty! We had a traditional lángos and one with red onions (with a couple of beers, ofc). Food and service were great! Thanks for the recommendation!
Commenting to boost video. From a Italian guy living in Budapest ;)
Akos is so engaging. What a personality!

We will visit Budapest in September. Lanugos is a must try on my list of things to do.
I had my first Lángos today, while at the Ecseri Flea Market. Thank you for excellent content, tips and guidance for my stay in Budapest 😁👍🏻
Glad you had a good time and also that you stepped off the beaten path and visited the Ecseri Flea Market :)
We will definitely try that Langos...it looks yummy!
I like langos plain or with garlic no sour cream or cheese for me sets u up for the bars, Never drink on a empty stomach 😊

I love to learning the history about this! And need to visit the markets you went to
Hi @Akos,
Deep thanks for your channel which I discovered recently. Our trip to Hungary has not started yet however your videos helped a lot..👍🏼
We will taste the suggestions of you soon. The channel is addressing a missing market!! Great job 👏🏼👍🏼💪🏼
Thank you for the kind message! I hope your upcoming trip will be amazing and you will make a lot of nice memories here :)
We had langos at Langosom. Very good and a nice price as well
It's so good. We actually went to Langos Papi when we visited a couple weeks ago. Those other ones in your video look great.
You are cute ❤and explain everything so so nicely. Keep up your great work 🎉
I can definately see why having stuffing inside would be nice :) It's like a Lángos Calzone :D
Yeah, that would probably make an average Hungarian mad :)
My favourite langos today is true Hungarian one, the same thickness of the first one in this video, with sour cream and garlic. So much more traditional, and less triggering for Hungarians :D
Also, when visiting Skopje, I've noticed that you could easily find Langos sold on stalls.

Hey, thanks for replying.

Ah, placke, we also call it like that (well, in Bosnia, in Vojvodina it's "mekike"), whenever a bread is prepared, it's a must to make the double the dough to be able to fry placke too. ❤
Love this...!
Awesome video, you've inspired me to actually make some at home. Hopefully it'll work out as well as yours
I hope you'll be successful when you try to make it and it will be delicious :)
The best lángos I have ever eaten, that was the Florian tér lángos. And it was just 1250Ft for a cheese-sour cream combo. The best value. I felt like, I've just robbed someone, because it was too cheap for that marvelous thing. It was fantastic!

Can you make a video on all the different market places around there? Please
Hey there! Maybe in the future we may make something like that :) In the meantime we have a video about some of the weekend markets that pop up. Those are fun too :)
Your videos are very helpful, I will be going to Budapest in a couple of months. Also here in Bulgaria we have mekitsa which is very similar to the langos
Thanks, I hope when you come here you'll enjoy your stay and make many fun memories :)
Great video. Koszi.
@@StuffedCabbageAdventures you're so right. I wish more places that are closed would open. But you can't beat the outdoor market on Saturday.
Me again 🙈🤗 Can you recommend a restaurant or other place where you can eat really good cabbage rolls or this stuffed cabbage? Thank you.
Yeah the prices went up but there are still few remaining places off the beaten path that sell it at a reasonable price 😊
Is Retro Lángos at a new location? Like across the street from before? I visited them about 5 years ago and then it was just a "hole in the wall". I think it was the same building as the metrostation.
Yeah it's not a hole in the wall anymore at Arany János utca Subway Station, they have a bigger place literally on the other side of the road :)
Please for monthly living cost in Budapest ! It's so great watching you !
best topping, vanilla ice cream
I remember when i was little langos was the cheapest food...
yeah... things that become very very popular can unfortunately turn expensive... luckily there are still a few places in the city that offer it for a reasonable price 😊
But if you wish to have some additional toppings, go for it 😊
I'll be there next week
I hope you'll have a great time, weather looks to be nice next week :)
Lángos rules:
It comes from a foodstall, not a restaurant
The best ones are made at the worst looking foodstalls
Look for a places where it seems like they haven't switched the oil in weeks and the cheese was cut 2 months ago
Best food ever
As a friendly Serbian neighbour and a frequent visitor to Budapest, I have to ask you:
Have you ever tried that Szimplakert abomination called Langos burger?
Or do you know anyone that had and survived? :D
Btw, great channel, I just discovered it.
Hey there! I have not tried the Langos Burger yet, but I don't think it can be that bad, however it would not be better than a regular burger in any way... just another way to make something cost even more than it should 😊 Lángos should be kept simple 😊
Can you do vegan food video?
Hey there! We have a future plan down the road for such a video but it may be some time to make it happen. In the meantime there were many recommendations for the HappyCow app for phones, I also downloaded it and it does show a lot of nice places where vegan food can be enjoyed :)
@@StuffedCabbageAdventures Thank you :) Looking forward for the video.

local markets have best langos! also the tiny outdoor place in szendtendre thats hidden
speaking as a hungarian : its just a bread cooked in sunflower oil. also tasty. but unhealthy. 1-2 times a year maybe.
Going to Budapest in the end of March, what steakhouse should I go to? For a reasonable price 🙏🏼
😋😋👍👍🤩🤩❤❤
Maybe originally it was a cousin of flammkueche
@@StuffedCabbageAdventures yup it does! Can't wait to try it and the other places when I come over at the end of May!
Did you miss the best lángos place (Florian Square) so that tourists wouldn't flood it? Thanks for that :) By the way the second best lángos place is in Újpest at SZTK.
Hehhe, trying all the Great Lángos places would take a significant toll on my Cholesterol levels 🤣
You're the best :)@@StuffedCabbageAdventures
The langos looks identical to what is called Indian Fry Bread here in the US. It's commonly served with chili and cheese on top. What kind of cheese do they use that's white?
Hey there! Here the most common Cheese used is Trappista, it's a traditional semi-hard cows milk cheese that's popular in this region :)
So sorry for maybe awkward questions :)
-Can we get the tickets at the place or is it better to buy them online?
@@StuffedCabbageAdventures Thank you very much!!!
This is a shame, I was in Prague in 2019 and every other stall was selling "trdelnik", some for prices that could get you a meal in a cheaper restaurant. Not to mention how many of those are found in the trash once tourist find out that they hate them (especially when they are poorly made) so much food wasted :(
Both langos and chimney cakes are Hungarian by origin, but langos is so much better.
Sometimes... the desire for a delicious but definately not healthy food is stronger then our own rational thinking 😅
lol I usually share my langos with my fam, no idea how you can eat so much!
Well the trick is that we also shared them.... and took some home and had Lángos for breakfast the next day :D
