  • Hey house lovers and explorers! These 3 cottages were all random finds about 18 months ago in Ballarat, Victoria where I was also able to a few explorers with The Frightened Explorer www.youtube.co...
These 3 cottages consist of a very nice cozy Green cottage that has been demolished along with the home next to it. The second cottage started life around 1900 and is now showing it`s age through neglect. The third home is perhaps a early 60`s home also overgrown and neglected. Hope you all enjoy the explores. Cheers for watching and check out the Frightened Explorer here- www.youtube.co...

Indigo, I know places grow and change, but why is everyone in such a hurry to get rid of the past??? Because I saw no damages to the Walls in the GREEN HOUSE!!! It would be awesome for a young couple starting out!!! These HOUSES make me want to cry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The real answer is that older homes tend to accumulate lots of little invisible issues that slowly become more and more expensive. Replacing wiring, plumbing, improving insulation, dealing with foundation shift, structural beams eventually do start to deteriorate and need replacing, particularly in rooves etc.
I've just bought a house not much older than these in the video and even after being renovated and having walls completely replaced, it's got some major issues all related to the fact it's simply an old home. So before we bought it, the previous owner replaced internal walls, including adding extra supports to structural walls, had the electrics in the roof rewired, and redid the plumbing in the bathroom entirely. We're going to have to re-roof and replace roof supports within a years time, and get an electrician in to repair the wiring in the walls itself. The stumps also need attention and that alone will set us back a thousand per stump, but we can at least spread that cost out over multiple years.
The house also had moisture retention issues, again due to age as technology around that kind of thing has improved. So rooms require constant maintenance to prevent mold and paint deterioration.
      Tl;Dr
Old homes are expensive to maintain. Modernizing is expensive and staying true to original is impractical and uncomfortable.

The little green cottage would have been a pleasant place to live. Nice pics of it while it was still alive.
I'm thinking the second one wouldn't have been abandoned that long because of the stove. Looks like the exact model that's in my kitchen that was put in from new in the box maybe 10 years ago. Stupid front knobs that kids always mess with & the solid hotplates that don't take too long to rust out/crumble away.

It is a shame. So many empty houses yet so many people in need of a home. There needs to be some clever project that brings them together. We have such a high level of dysfunction that keeps people separate from what they need.

Green cottage, I sure like those flowers in the yard and stones on the front porch . You just got to the laundry and I have to say those floors are nice. Cool brick on the fireplace. Very nice green cottage, but it needed a bathtub. 21:59 Wow that is one high doorknob! Nice wallpaper. Last house was okay.

The little green cottage was about late 40’s and repainted and last redone in the early 70’s. That would be my guess. The lovely door, I don’t know where that came from but it isn’t really old either. That design is 70’s as well and they always mounted with the sun behind them on the outside but sometime they then built on a bit of a verandah or patio and they didn’t get anymore bright light to show off the pattern. I love looking through this!

Hello Paul well the green cottage is still standing but there are plans in the pipe line. The empty house lot and the green cottage will soon be a service station As if we need more service station in that street. The other two houses have been demolished they are now empty blocks. The last house has looked empty for years the only sign that it wasn't was a car in the yard. I know this part of town very well. Thanks for sharing I enjoyed this video very much.
