- Come along as I cook a birthday supper for the girls. They turned 26! Not sure how I got old enough to have kids that old. They ask for Pumpkin Roll and Chess Cake for dessert. For the meal we had canned deer meat, roasted green beans, biscuits, and roasted new potatoes straight from our garden. The beans came from our garden too-and the blackberry jelly. Matt harvested the deer. We love eating off the land when we can here in the mountains of Appalachia.

@@CelebratingAppalachia You are welcome Tipper, I know I am going to enjoy everything, except the lettuce because we only get Iceberg lettuce and romaine lettuce and arugula, and spinach. However, for the rest, the cookbook looks very scrumptiously delicious. I love how you cook.
I'll be turning 70 October 6th, and my daughter will be 51 in December! It's hard to believe how fast time goes indeed! Poem I wrote some years ago goes like this! " I look in the mirror and what do I see, but an old woman looking back at me. The girl once their has gone away and left this person whose old and grey! Where'd time go and how'd I get here so fast, Are the ego's from my mothers past! I understand now when my Mother use to say....Enjoy youth now, for it hurry's away! It thrills my heart seeing your girls celebrating their birthday!

They may be 26, Tipper, but I bet they will always be your little girls. Though many of us have commented that they "are wise beyond their years", they can still be playful as kids at times. It was nice seeing you all enjoying this special day together. Teaching your children what is most important in life may be one of the best gifts anyone can give them.
I know the feeling 30 year old son, 25 year old son, and 22 year old daughter. In March 2023 get first grandchild. So exciting 😁 HAPPY BIRTHDAY X2
I agree with what someone else said, wait until the girls turn 40, my daughter turns 43 this year. It’s funny that when our kids have birthdays we also get older😂😂😂😂. The meal looked delish and thank you for sharing. I do want you to know how sweet, talented and funny those girls are. I know your a proud Momma!

I hope I turn out like you Tipper! My husband and I have been trying to have a baby for 12 years! And seeing you have your twin girls is so special to me! My mom and dad always do something for me on my birthday also! Actually for my three sisters and their husbands also! We all spoil each other … my mom and dad… sisters, brother in laws, and my three nieces and 4 nephews. It’s a blast! Happy birthday chitter and chatter! Cherish family on your birthday! I volunteer at the community garden Saturdays and learned something interesting. The pumpkin we buy is really Cushman Squadh!! We had a beautiful big harvest of it. When I was at the soup kitchen todsy I saw a tub of it from Shiloh , Our Daily Bread is a recipient of their generosity. I knew the gentleman who started it in 2009. He is no longer with us. He was a very nice, down to earth, have fun guy. I enjoy both volunteer areas. Thanks for r another great video. Happy birthday to the girls. My oldest is 60!!! Wow!! God bless🥰❤🙏

Corie's desire to keep the meat juice from "contaminating" her biscuit reminded me of when my mother would make canned beets and the liquid would flow over to the macaroni and cheese on the plate, making it "yucky". Mom would tell us to just eat it, pointing out that "it all goes down the same stomach".
You have every right to be so proud of those girls! You did good, Mom!! I guess we can pat Dad on the back too! 🙂

That's funny she doesn't want meat juice running on her plate. Reminds me of when I was little. My finished plate looked like a peace sign. A line where the taters & meat touched, a line where my meat & veggies touched and a line where my taters & veggies touched. LOL Happy Birthday girls!
You are a mom at heart and gave your daughter's the best meal that a mama would give! everything is delicious, only not sure about roasted beans, they are delicious boiled with a little salt and oil oil.. But not to take away from your family 's tradition...you had my mouth water at evertyhing, the potatoes are gorgeous..and of course the desert! delicious! what a beautiful mom you are!

What a lovely dinner. I'd never seen anyone roll a pumpkin roll from the long side...more portions, I guess! When I do my pumpkin roll, I sprinkle a bit of powdered sugar on the tea towel so that the cake doesn't stick so much. If I'm doing a chocolate one, I use cocoa powder. I agree with Corrie on the butter...the more the better, especially on the spuds!! Happy birthday to the girls!!

Every thing looks delicious. Never had deer meat but them biscuits & green beans potatoes boy what a meal. But what really got me was that pumpkin 🎃 roll the best.

If you mash each potato lightly with a fork before you roast them you will get those crunchy bits you love. So good!

Tipper, I've made many a rolled cake. I sprinkle powdered sugar on the tea towel and then put the cake on then roll it up. the towel allows it to cool quickly without sticking. When you fill the cake you can use the towel to help roll it up. It works well, no worries. The squash you used was on the wet side. If you do that again spread the squash on a sheet pan lined with paper towels and blot as much moisture as possible with more paper towels. I saw that on a cooking show. You're a great mama to go all out for your girls. I wished them a happy birthday on their channel. Cheers!
Your roasted potatoes looked so good! My daughter taught me a trick to kind of “rough up” the outsides after a quick boil. Drain the water off, leave the potatoes in the pot, put the lid on (holding it on) and give it a few shakes. The potatoes rubbing against one another & the sides of the pot does the same as scraping them one by one. But you might want to keep doing it the way you’re used to. There’s some jobs that I never take a shortcut on because it’s kind of meditative.
Today is my nephew's birthday 🎂too! All my kids are in their thirties now. Good news is I have grandkids!!! Love 💘

Love your meal! Although you know what your doing with the pumpkin roll- I use powdered sugar on the tea towel before turning out the cake - helps it not stick to the towel. I also roll the towel right with the cake. That way when you roll it, the space the tea towel took up can be filled with the filling. This helps keep it from cracking. Anyway - your’s look delicious. Thanks for sharing your meal.

Love the birthday dinner! I used to do that for my children before they moved away. Such a wonderful meal and family time. I have never seen canned deer meat although I have seen canned fish. I think it is a wonderful idea.

What beautiful green beans,just about all the green beans I have ever heard of is Ky,Wanders.I have never tried deer meat ,but I am sure it’s wonderful. This is three months after the girl’s birthday,would have love to be therefor the party. God bless ❤
