Honestly, it turned out way better than I expected 😆 I hope you got at least one valuable takeaway from this video and it opened your eyes to another part of the world. Please let me know by leaving your thoughts or questions as a comment below right now.
Perhaps, when you are back in Sydney from KL, you can cook nasi lemak with rendang kangaroo. You can just simply replicate and improvise rendang at home by using the very affordable rendang paste that is ready for cooking your choice of meat. You can find few brands of rendang mix from the grocery stores in Malaysia. The ready made paste was a great help in my kitchen when I was working and living in Mumbai for 3 years. There are many ingredients that aren't easily find abroad when you are cooking Malaysian dishes.
Forgive me, but I can't help drooling over those beautiful pairs of biceps, lickalicous!! I've been to Ozzie a few times years ago and really enjoyed the travel time spent there.
Your Dad is quite a cool dude! Well traveled… Great effort cooking nasi lemak using roo meat, that’s a first I must say!! 😂 It’s fun watching how much you enjoy cooking and enjoying a M’sian much loved local dish 😊
Haha I thought I was the only one using the microwave rice to make nasi lemak. Good on ya Jack! By the way, you can actually find microwave jasmine rice with lemon grass or with coconut milk. Get both and mixed together for nasi lemak. Yes, you actually can find halal roos meat. Special order online. Not too sure if you can get it at Woolies or Coles.
@@DarylSolis If I'm not mistaken, I've watched a contestant originated from Malaysia cooking nasi lemak in one of the earlier episodes of the Australian Masterchef series. Nasi lemak is now recognized by UNESCO.
@@DarylSolis Thank you to countless people who have introduced nasi lemak in their videos whether in Malaysia or abroad. There are so many who have cooked and improvised the original recipe of nasi lemak and made videos on it. In this video, it's Jack an Aussie, I've seen Japanese, Scottish, British, Canadian, American etc cooking nasi lemak.
@@JackAlderton That's marvelous. "Something is better than nothing," as the saying goes. Enjoy your time back home and looking forward to having you back in KL then.
yes he did not cook the rice in/with coconut milk so that cannot be considered as nasi lemak.it does not have the nasi lemak taste.this is the wrong way to make nasi lemak.
thanks for the tips! Yep, this was my version using the ingredients I could find at Coles (local supermarket) - trust me, it still tasted amazing with coconut oil!
If you want your nasi lemak to taste more delightful, not just creamy from the coconut cream or milk, try this. For Malaysian, they like to add aromatic pandan leaf. My way, to cook a good nasi lemak, I like to add a twist of pandan leaf, few shred of ginger, a tiny pinch of salt, sugar & msg, along with the coconut milk or cream.
Good suggestion, thanks Yasin! I did try to find some leaves but no luck. I think I could go to an Asian specialty supermarket & they might have it. Good tip with the ginger!
There's a very nice upscale restaurant called 'Hojiak' - I celebrated my birthday there 2 years ago. It was excellent, but I must say.. very overpriced. When I go back to Sydney next I'll try to hunt down the most authentic ones as you mention. I wish Malaysian food was more popular in Aus - I think most Aussies are only familiar with 'laksa' when they order from an Asian-fusion foodcourt typical in most shopping centres.
Great video, I really appreciated the cost and macros breakdown. You might want to look into the health implications of microwave rice. It is my understanding that the plastic pouch leaches some pretty toxic chemicals into the rice when microwaved.
No worries, thanks Page. Yes I'm absolutely aware and borderline paranoid of microplastics - unfortunately I've come to the conclusion it's impractical to eliminate, but fully agree it should be avoided. I'm travelling & don't have a rice cooker but otherwise 100% cook rice the legit way!
You should get this recipe patented and probably push for sponsorship either in Malaysia or Australia. Looks highly delicious and commercially potential. 🙃
I wonder how that kangaroo meat tastes like.. anyway.. tho thats not really how nasi lemak is cooked, i give you 10/10 for the effort you put to prepare this meal. 😊
