We can see how proud Jack was to show Malaysia around and to share his new "home" to his Dad. The smile tells it all. Thank you Jack for being part of our colourful and wonderful country 👍😊
RE Safety: My husband & I went on holiday to Kuala Lumpur in August 2024. Not once did I ever feel unsafe, either when hubby and I were out together or the few times I ventured out alone. There’s a few times here in popular places in Australia that I’ve felt less safe than how I felt in KL.
I am Singaporean, I plan to retire in the next 4-5 years and will likely spend a lot of time in KL, Penang & maybe drive around the East Coast, especially around the beaches. Malaysia is a wonderful country, blessed with natural beauty and kind people, with a culture similar with Singapore - yet it is different enough to be interesting. The SGD:MYR exchange rate is also favourable to us so Malaysia can expect a huge bunch of Singaporeans swarming all over the country, especially when the 2 governments sort out the inconveniences of crossing the land borders!
It's encouraging to hear your father's candid thoughts about Malaysia in your interview. Depending on how you see things, any country must have things that you enjoy and dislike. However, you'll see more bad things and complain more about it if your eyes are more likely to pick up on the negative aspects of it. On the other hand, if you can see things with a positive mindset, you'll find more interesting and positive things about the place and be able to appreciate it more. As a Malaysian, I know that Malaysia is not perfect, so, I often moan about a lot of things, but I constantly tell myself that the grass is always greener on the other side. I know that I can't change them, but I can alter myself to be more optimistic about it, so I try to accept things as they are and quit whining.
Good to see both Dad and son together in Malaysia. Obviously, you've been the important factor that made he likes spending time around here, above all. Your happiness is his. I can see that.❤
That's an enviable heartwarming dad-son relationship, "good on yer both" or whatever the Oz expression is! I'm here because I spent a lot of unforgettable time working in and for Malaysia incl. Borneo. It's a heavenly country and a foodie paradise if you enjoy Asian food.
I really enjoyed your dad’s perspective, same age here and Australian we have lived in Thailand but are really considering KL . It was a thoughtful , intelligent conversation Thankyou 💝
Another great video educating anyone interested in KL or Malaysia. I’ve been following your channel for awhile and have just returned from a month recon of KL. Planning on relocating in Q2 2025 from Sydney and found your videos to be very helpful. I agree with the Singapore/KL debate as it was also a consideration for business but have decided on KL. I’m staying tuned for more videos as I get closer to the relocation date. Much appreciated. Dino
Very interesting interview. Your dad must visit Sabah & Sarawak. He's adventurous, Jack. Haha perhaps after visiting the Borneo states he'd retire there. Trust me.
Your dad looked like he's a seasoned traveller. His frank opinion about Malaysia really does carry some weight, and his views are pretty spot on, too. Especially in the area where many foreign tourists out there would visualise Malaysia to be some kinda typical South East Asian country with roadside markets everywhere, and noisy environment in the city. In Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, it's unbelievably quiet for an Asian country's capital! 😅😂
I live at Jalan Ampang right opposite the Petronas towers and from experience I can tell you KL is anything but a quiet city. You’ve got the road rage, the honking, the constant horning, the rushing, the bad driving attitude, everything just like in other cities around the region.
Wonderful reaction guys.....We welcome your lovely dad to Malaysia again and hope he enjoy his next trip. Yes take a chance to do your medical check-up while you are in Malaysia. Go to Borneo - Sarawak, Sabah and even Brunei too.
Thanks for the video. I’ve only been here 7 months but I’m very similar to you in that I work at TRX and live in KLCC. For me the weather has been a learn as I came from London where it’s generally much colder. I’ve had a great medical experience in terms of checks ups and fast treatment but I did go Prince Court which was a little pricier than I’d been led to believe but was able to claim on my company plan so it was a non issue. Safety wise I’ve never felt at all unsafe even on my own. Downsides for me have been the cars and how pedestrians are the bottom of the food chain. Cars generally don’t stop and they even park on the footpaths and run red lights plus the footpaths are often in poor condition broken up etc which is very different from the UK where pedestrians are treated much better. I’ve also had to adapt to the pace of life. It’s much slower here and that has been hard if stuck behind slow walkers, or on escalators when there is a tendency to just stop and block the way instead of moving over. Same with the MRT, everyone pushes on and there’s no order to daily life. Again very different to the UK for me.
It's not wise to compare KL with London or any other developed cities.. KL is still developing, (Malaysia is indeed a developing country), gradually it will become an ideal city for everyone 😊
Amazing insights tyvm And he isn't comparing he's giving a review of what life has felt like for him as an expat a foriegner in malaysia. to help others expats decide to live in malaysia or not Any human on earth who was born in city A and moves to city B will compare them. Even if one is larger or smaller or developed more or not etc. Its fine
Well written, indeed that is also my experience after more than 10 years in Singapore and now 6 years in Kuala Lumpur. It is absolutely ridiculous, how pedestrians have to run for their lives, when crossing the streets here, the most frustrating part being the fact that there is no law enforcement whatsoever with regards to citizens. One can get away with any behaviour here, be it crossing red lights, parking on pedestrian areas, going against traffic or spitting in front of other people.
The Islands in Malaysia east coast are amazing and they're more suited to western tourist than in Langkawi. Tioman, Pangkor and Kapas are very much recommended plus they're not too far away.
Welcome Jack & his Daddy to Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia! Yes , there are always the positives & the negatives aspects in all countries in the world , so we just have to select the good ones & be wary of the bad ones! It is wise to change to a lighter , smaller backpack when exploring any city , bringing along a retractable umbrella in a plastic bag to shield from the elements ( Don't forget to dry it in the hotelroom ) , a pair of sun glasses , sun hat , a paper notebook with a pen in a ziploc to jot things down , a small insect repellent spray & insect bite numbing lotion , antibacteria hand gel , antibac wet tissues , a small bottle of mineral water & a spare phone & powerbank in case of any emergency would be handy! The Yeo's H-TWO-O or Coca Cola's 100Plus isotonic drink & pure coconut drinks are a good way to cool down the heatiness of the Tropical Climate! A belated Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year 2025 to Jack & Daddy! Stay safe , healthy , stay vigilant & stay humble Guys! 🙏🌷🌿🍎🍊🫐🥘🍕🍔🍟🍰🍵

I know many Aussie don't know much bout Malaysia till they visit . last time back in 2000 I stayed with Oz family and they thought most of the people live on top of the tree and one day they follow me back to KL and I show them the twin towers and they looks like kids going to Disneyland
Non-biased, every country has people who hate it and people who like it. It's impossible for everyone to like it because when they come, they meet different people and experience different situation depending on how good a person's day is, which is in your day, so it's hard to label a country suck just because some people label it suck and another one about someone's preferences and remember that someone's preferences depending on the environment they were raised in too
Remember, Singapore and Malaysia were at one time united under British until 1969, when Singapore was kicked out !. And English language in educational system was the mainstream until 1975/6/7..... or else Malaysia could be almost like Singapore or perhaps better.....😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@JackAlderton they live separately and can never be united. The majority of the race with the most majority can never be colour-blind and meritocracy based. Common sense stuff.
You can’t generalize ‘Western’ countries as one homogenic monoculture region, just like you can’t generalize ‘Asia’. Even within Europe, there is a huge cultural difference between a country like Serbia, compared to Italy compared to The Netherlands. One thing I do not like from these kind of continuous efforts to advertise Malaysia, is to downgrade, stereotype and generalize ‘Western countries’, with the single goal to upgrade a country like Malaysia. Take any country as it comes, have a positive mindset and be open to experiences and any country in ‘the West’ will be hospitable, friendly and accomodating. Safety is never a concern when one is mindful of the environment. Not in Malaysia, not in Australia, not in the US, not in Europe. As for the interview, nicely done, but honestly a bit predictable.
My parents was never supporting my country moving .. I lived in 7 so far.. In fact they are embarrassed because they consider move as a failure and vagabond style of living ..
my mother insists that the twin towers, despite not being taller, is still far more charismatic than merdeka 118. and warren seems to corroborate. just something about it is iconic. to this day it’s the twin towers that are constantly surrounded by tourists taking photos day and night.
you havent been to redang. lang tengah, perhentian or tioman yet? oh my.. you miss out big time. the beach on those island are superior compare to langkawi
‘Expatriate’ - a subset term for an immigrant that typically moves for work or retirement. An official term used by the Malaysian Immigration department for a foreign worker on a valid work visa, for example.
Speaking about the food war between MY and SG , as a malaysian who has relatives in SG i would give them the win for their chicken rice, then their murtabak (but not in comparison with ours, as its different), their sup tulang merah and mee siam berkuah (both of these are rarely found here in malaysia)
So true esp if they are from a remote country side...i had a chance to stay with an ozzie family back when i was a student, the vibe was just like a kampong in Malaysia, everybody knows everybody business...but they were very friendly n welcoming with outsiders...
Spent a lot of time there. The traffic and horrible public transport stops you from going places. I found it ultimately less friendly and more characterless than thailand and other countries
i am been at australia 15 yeasr . your dad imposible to retired at australia because he is the main income of australia goverment , medicare , house loan , electrical bill, and girl problem . that kind of problem most of the time man don't even know what is that but he have to pay for that( i mean you mom . your wife and your girlfriend . and much more . impossible to retired. they will do until your dad bank income at bank become zero .
In Malaysia the Prime Minister and his cronies take the billions of retirement money form the netizens and put it in their own bank account to fund their lavish lifestyle. Who’s wrong here?
i tell you about retiredment , if at australia you retiredment money have to tax , if dont want to tax you need to put in the self manage stupid fund , but at malaysia is tax free. ( this is te reason i come back to malaysia , if you dont want to pay for the investment income . you just need to open a company at labuan and do it your self . is easy dont need to blame someone else. ( the money are going in to united state share market .
Bangkok is hands down better than Kuala Lumpur in terms of nightlife and entertainment. Kuala Lumpur is hands down better than Bangkok in terms of air quality and violence caused by alcohol, drugs, or guns. Singapore is hands down better than Malaysia in terms of cleanliness and public sector efficiency. Malaysia is hands down better than Singapore in terms of cost of living and living space.😊
my dutch husband and teenagers have no interest in going back to Europe. Zero interest. We've been here more than four years. Infrastructure and maintenance should improve. Honestly, there is order in chaos, malaysians are the best in parking backwards.

Nowadays Malaysia had a lot of foreigners that lived here.
You can only compare Singapore with KL, not Malaysia.
Malaysia as a country has so much more compared to SG, not only the size.

I hate when foreigners talks about safety as their concern. Don’t you think that your country is far more dangerous as compared to here?
For asian, western countries are definately more dangerous. We never got harrassed by drunkard in asia.

i am been at australia 15 yeasr . your dad imposible to retired at australia because he is the main income of australia goverment , medicare , house loan , electrical bill, and girl problem . that kind of problem most of the time man don't even know what is that but he have to pay for that( i mean you mom . your wife and your girlfriend . and much more . impossible to retired. they will do until your dad bank income at bank become zero .

I am a malaysian. Went to your famous Bondi Beach. A dissapointment.
Malaysia is a heaven if not for the politicians that also play with race and religion issues.

my dutch husband and teenagers have no interest in going back to Europe. Zero interest. We've been here more than four years. Infrastructure and maintenance should improve. Honestly, there is order in chaos, malaysians are the best in parking backwards.
the best beaches in the world are in the carribean, the best beach IMHO is in the bahamas.
Beaches are boring anyway!Just sand salt water and palm trees!
