Hello Tilly, thank you for your lovely comprehensive video. I am in Cornwall and tried this but for some reason I had holes in my coaster resin and all of them didn’t touch the sides. Is it a question of adding more than I am? Thank you ❤
You are very welcome! The most common reason for the resin creating holes and pulling away from the sides is oil on the coaster. So either the use of oil in the paint mix, or oil transferred from your fingers. Before you put any resin on, you need to thoroughly clean all the surfaces with isopropyl alcohol.... make sure to wear gloves whilst cleaning, and every time you touch them after cleaning so you don't transfer oil from your fingers back onto the tiles.
@@TillyDouglasthank you so much! I’m going to sand them down and use alcohol and so it again, How do you rate the resin in the UK? I have craft resin left to use? That’s my only one so far xx

You are very welcome! 💜 Did you clean the tops of the tiles before you poured the resin on them? Oh and I'm usually behind a camera, even for photos, so this was a big deal for me! 😊 😃 💜

Hi, I love your videos and follow them a lot. I can’t get this process to work. My finished tiles have blemishes and dips and welts on them. It happens almost every time. I tried using less resin and using more resin. I tried to spread it with sponges, brushes or just my finger and I can’t figure it out. Do you have any suggestions ?
Hi Anna, have you used any oils at all in your paint? If you have, you will need to clean that off properly before you can resin ... There are lots of videos showing how to do that. Make sure you clean them with alcohol, and then make sure you keep gloves on when you handle them, otherwise the oil will transfer from your fingers. Good luck, I hope these things help.
Thank you Tilly for this very informative video posted a couple of years ago ☺️ I have dimples on the ones I did yesterday so I will have to apply a second coat. Please tell me how long to wait before I sand them?
Such a great video! Have you ever used a photo? If so, would it be the same process? Attempting to figure out if I need to glue the photo first or resin the photo on and then resin over it? Thank you!!
Hi Alex, thank you very much! Yes I have used photos and they work really well, but you do have to completely seal the photo with something like ModPodge first, otherwise the resin will soak into it and leave it looking water damaged. Make sure to seal the edges as well as the front and back of the photo. Afteer it has completely dried I add a thin layer of resin to the tile and place the photo on the top making sure there are no air bubbles under the photo... Then add another coat (or more coats if needed) 🌹
Yes, you can sand them, (do it outside and wear a mask because resin dust can be dangerous) then clean with alcohol and give them another coat of resin.

Love your video thank you. I've had so much trouble with my resin on MDF but now prepping it properly, I hope! I wanted to know whether you pre coat your tiles before cleaning with alcohol (did you use Surgical Spirit?) and then applying resin. Will continue to watch and learn!!
Hi Rona, it could be that you have oil on them from your fingers, so make sure to give them a really good lean with alcohol before you resin them, and make sure to wear gloves so you don't transfer more oil onto them. It could also be that you're not using enough resin... Or it could be that you haven't got them completely level. 🌹
Hi Tilly how did you get on with the heat test on your coasters. When I've looked for the resin there was one 50/50 and the other one was a big bottle and a small what is the difference 🥺 where did you get your stamp for your🤔Thank you so much for teaching a thing or two 🌹 love you lots 💓 xxo
Hi Julie, I don't think that resin is particularly good with the heat test, although they do claim it is, I disagree! The resin that I prefer to use is called Craft Resin. With the resins, some are a 50/50 mix, but others are 60/40... It really just comes down to the brand. I got my stamp from Zazzle, there's a link under the video for that... They are great because you can completely personalise them on their website, and it's very easy to do. 🌹 ❤️ xx
Hi Kendra, perhaps use just a little more resin on them, make sure the tiles are completely level and spread the resin around with your gloved hand. I prefer to move the resin with my fingers because I can feel where there needs to be more, or less, resin.
Hello nice to see you I’m in the U.K. too. Iv had terrible trouble getting something that’s heat proof for my tiles with no luck but the price of the one you are using is too expensive for me. Can you recommend anything cheaper. Also do you use Floetrol and where to get it in the U.K..It’s so nice to get help and ideas from someone in the U.K. Also where do I get the alcohol Thankyou
Hello Linda, my fellow Brit 👋 I have seen this craft resin, but I haven't tried it yet ... If you use this link, you will get 10% off your order craftresin.refr.cc/visualsense and their prices are very reasonable! This is what they say about the temperature of their resin... "The maximum temperature that cured Craft Resin can tolerate after 21 days of curing is 200F or 93C." ... So that should work nicely for coasters, but as I say, I haven't tested it yet. I do use the Australian floetrol, but only for the bloom cell activator, as it is very expensive... I buy that on Ebay, and have to import it from Australia. If you check the links under my video, you will see my Amazon links, most of the bits and pieces I use are on there, including the alcohol.
Tilly just lovely and well done. Do you have any tips for adding photography to tile or glass followed by resin? Paper photos (I'd think?) would ripple and I'm wondering if you've worked with decals?
Hello, thank you for the video. I've tried to resin coasters for the 1st time, after about a couple of minutes after pouring the resin on top it started to separate from the edges I'm not sure why because I cleaned it off with rubbing alcohol really well twice as I did use silicone oil in the acrylic paint and it still separates . Can you help me out with this?
Hi Vera, your problem is almost certainly caused by the oil you used. You will need to clean all the silicone oil off before you attempt to resin them. Try using corn starch and rub it in really well, then brush it off and wash it, then repeat as many times as you need to. This is the reason I never use silicone oil.
Hi Darlene, I don't know if you have sorted this yet, but you could try giving them a light sanding, then a good clean with alcohol and do another coat.
In your videos, what do you use to hold the coasters when you are painting? It appears that you are holding the coaster from the back, not the sides...
Hi Tami, I leave mine for about 3 weeks... I know there are some people that don't think you need to leave them that long, but any amount of dampness left in the paint will ruin the resin.
I followed your instructions and I think I’ve done something wrong. There are bumps in the surface starting to show up as it’s drying should I try to fix this or do I trust the process? Ugh.
Tilly, you sent me a 10% off claim code for the resin and I accidentally deleted it!!! Any chance you can send me it again please, I’d like to order some of the resin? Thank you
Hi Deborah, I haven't got another code for 10% off this one now,.. But the resin I've been using lately is Craft Resin, and you will get 5% off if you use this affiliate link craftresin.refr.cc/visualsense

So so so helpful, thank you!
You're so welcome! 🌹
Does the resin you use work for hot drinks also?
No, it certainly didn't pass the hot cup test...Which I was quite disappointed in. 🌹
Thanks so much love the tiles and great information. ..
You're very welcome Mary, I'm so pleased you liked them! 😃
Two of my coasters that I put epoxy on got fisheye or divots, how long should I let the first layer sit before I sand it down to add the second layer?
Hi Darlene, I don't know if you have sorted this yet, but you could try giving them a light sanding, then a good clean with alcohol and do another coat.
@@TillyDouglas I will try that, thank you so much.
@@TillyDouglas yayyyyy it worked, thank you so much. I forget how long to let it cure before using them.
@@TillyDouglas it worked so good but now I have lines in the resin, not real deep.
How long does it need to cure before adding cork?
I would typically leave it for at least 24 hours.
Thank you so much for this great video!!!
You're very welcome Caroline, I'm so pleased it was helpful!
Thank you. Very helpful.

Super helpful!!! Thank you 👏🏻
You're so welcome! 🌹
In your videos, what do you use to hold the coasters when you are painting? It appears that you are holding the coaster from the back, not the sides...
Hi Jayne, I use a piece of duck tape folded in half and stick the 2 ends to the tile to make a tab
Thank you for that info! This is the first time I watched your videos and I'm very impressed. Thank you for sharing your tips with everyone. 🙂
You're very welcome Jayne! Thank you for your very kind comment! 🌹
Thank you👏👏👏👏💞💞💞
You're very welcome Julie! 🌹 💜
Beautiful! Where did you get your tiles from?
Thank you Keneisha! I'm in the UK and I got them from B&Q, They are a box of 26 and are 4 x 4 inches
@@TillyDouglas Thank You!
Thank you very much .very helpful

How long should my tiles dry before I can resin them?
Hi Tami, I leave mine for about 3 weeks... I know there are some people that don't think you need to leave them that long, but any amount of dampness left in the paint will ruin the resin.
Thank you!
You're welcome!
what do you use the resin drips for?
I mostly use them in collages
I followed your instructions and I think I’ve done something wrong. There are bumps in the surface starting to show up as it’s drying should I try to fix this or do I trust the process? Ugh.
I don't know if you have sorted this yet, but you could try giving them a light sanding, once dry then a good clean with alcohol and do another coat.
Do you use rubbing alcohol in the end?
I'm not sure what you mean, ... in the end for what?
@@TillyDouglas end of process. So do I need to clean the top with alcohol, like the varnish.
You can if you want, but you don't need to.
what resin are you using/can it withstand hot drinks
The reason I made this video is to answer questions that I get asked a lot.... It saves me a lot of time this way. Did you watch it?
@@TillyDouglas No that is why I asked. Thanks
Thanks for the great tips! I had trouble hearing you though. Maybe wear a microphone for the next video?
You're welcome Dan! It's a shame you couldn't hear me, because I was ever so interesting! 😂 😂 😂
My tiles are painted with alcohol inks so I won't be able to spray with alcohol to wipe up any oils. I'd ruin my painting. Thanks for sharing
Thank you@@TillyDouglas
About the respirator, yes, you could wear it during the demonstration. You would do a voice-over after the tutorial. Protect your lungs.
Talk too slow . Resin now is not that long
