There is no push or forced "bassening" of his voice whatsoever. Simply beautiful.
very good point 👍
Simply the most beautiful singing. No unnecessary dynamics and no trying to impress audience with forceful volumes. Just pleasant and natural singing!!!!!
He has so much charm and charisma... And his voice is amazing 💯💖
Voice, gorgeous timbre, style, supreme elegance, diction, an acting game...Polgar was, in so many ways, so closed to perfection. So how could explain why he has been so under rated ? What a loss...Very few recordings and DVDs unfortunately...It shows how the opera world is robbed by star system...Always the same...
Yes you are right I have never heard of his voice what a loss for the opera fans
Diction? Das ist jetzt aber ein Witz.
@@RichardWagner-hi4znWhat is it with you krauts always complaining about “diction “
Christ, you should hear how some people mangle English
Laszlo Polgar was clearly one of the greatest basses in operatic history. It is such a pity that he did not appear at the Met or La Scala, since this would made him much better known. Then we would have had more of his recordings to enjoy. But thank you to the contributors to RUclips for these !
He did appear in La Scala in the Bluebeard's Castle.
I had the chance to hear him in Sarastro.. By far the best...

I must have listened to this rendition of this aria 100+ times. It is the best I've ever listened.
The best version I have heard......by far. Brilliant.
Thats right 👍 a wonderful voice, a voice, that I never hear before this Arie of Maestro, he was absolutely brilliant ❤️ even the best goes to early 😪 R. I. P. 💕
@@rosemariehubl5043 All the great singers died early. Telvela, Bastianini, Callas etc etc etc etc. If there is a God, then he is a selfish bastard.
Agreed
agreed best sarastro ever
What a magnificent voice and beautiful performance. RIP.
Sadly he died unexpectedly aged 63,in 2010.It is a wonderful (true lyric) bass voice,I can't think why we (in the UK) didn't hear more of/about him.
Since he mentioned in his interviews that his father has also died suddenly in his earlyforties, also in a heart attack, seemingly it's an unfortunate family trait...
La migliore voce...basso stupendo, grande interprete, uomo affascinante! Non doveva lasciarci così presto.
I've been listening to different versions of "in diesen Heil'gen Halle" and this is the best.
My favorit singer Polgár László.... Régi nagy "kedvencem" Ő.... Schubert Erlkönigjét énekelte, mikor megismertem.
What a glorious sound of this voice!!!!!
He had such a beautiful voice.
He's also a beautiful man!
Great Bass,love this Aria.
This performance is my favorite so far.
What an amazing voice and interpretation. Wonderful!
In diesen heil'gen Hallen Within these hallowed halls
Kennt man die Rache nicht. Vengeance is unknown;
Und ist ein Mensch gefallen, And if a man has fallen,
Führt Liebe ihn zur Pflicht. Love will call him to duty;
Dann wandelt er an Freundes Hand, Then, guided by a friendly hand,
Vergnügt und froh ins bess're Land. He contentedly enters a better land;
In diesen heil'gen Mauern, Within these hallowed walls
Wo Mensch den Menschen liebt, Where human loves human,
Kann kein Verräter lauern, No traitor can lurk
Weil man dem Feind vergibt. Because we forgive our foes;
Wen solche Lehren nicht erfreun, He who is displeased with such teachings
Verdient nicht ein Mensch zu sein. Is not worthy of being a human being.

@@expansionone My pleasure….
Beautiful basso voice and subtle performance.
I can't think of a more beautiful bass voice I have ever heard. He has a bel canto style like the most lyric tenor
wow havent heard of him until now. thats one of the best sarastros of all time!
The most beautiful male voice I've ever heard....
Wow! That is a beautiful voice!

A wonderful voice and a wonderful singer though a somewhat underrated one.

Rosvaenge never disappoints-simply one of the truly great 20th century voices with superb diction abd phrasing and an untiring flow of sound
Stunning voice 💕👏👏👏👏👏
What a great bass voice. Beautiful interpretation also. Ashamed to say I’m not familiar with his work so thanks to the RUclips algorithm for introducing me to this artist
Sehr schön. Diese Darbietung hat mir sehr gut gefallen.
Vivat Mozart! Vivat Laszlo Polgar!
This aria is so beautiful, reminds us of how we should always forgive our most grave enemies. The music is so beautiful too...😮😮
I think most folks commenting do not understand these powerful, wonderful words.
Polgar's brave, superb and clear baritone voice.
Kako veličanstvena scena! Izvrstan bas, šteta da je prerano preminuo.

This is so beautiful!!
Sarastro lives in this rendition!
KwangChulYoun is fabulous. He has a great voice, rich and deep. Excellent work singing this great Mozart aria.
Semplicemente favoloso
When I just heard the voice, I thought it was Kurt Moll. What a classic voice!
Yes…he and Kurt Moll are the best I’ve heard. Don’t remember who said it, but they said Sarastro was the voice of God in this aria.
He was the Greatest Bass of them All !!!!!!!!
Divino bajo.
Great voice....
Me gustaba mucho esa voz tan profunda muy hermosa.
Absolutely superb on every level - one of the greatest bassos in my book.
Fantastic voice...
Basso de oro...
All too often this aria can drag - even when sung by great basses. Not here. This is superb
Teljesen
Thank you so much
😊...beautiful
Bravo
Eine sehr schöne Arie.
He is virtually unknown - wonder why, with a voice like this.
Kurt Moll is still my favorite in this aria, but DAMN this man is no slouch either!
Ottimo Sarastro
Welche Stimme!!!
Vergeving en genade! Zo mooi!
Phänomenal!
Yeah his voice is wonderful... But take notice of the acting in this scene. Like always, Polgar is playing with a lot of passion and, especially in this scene, love. I love how he is always fully taken up in his roles. And maybe it's just because is so good-looking and a very untypical Sarastro - very young and also his costume, very simple - but in this scene, I could imagine Sarastro and Pamina being a pair of lovers. Honestly, the look he gives her in the end - isn't this the look a woman wants to get from her lover?
CaelestisSapientiae Hmm, I don’t get that feeling actually - I’ve always felt that it’s very clearly interpreted as fatherly love. The way he puts his arm around her. Makes me miss my dad. Thanks for your comment :-)
The character of sarastro is supposed to be about 55-60 so definitely old enough that is more fatherly than romantic love
@@nicholasneyhart396 I don't know about that - the singer Mozart wrote the role for originally was in his late 20s at the time of the premiere, and in the libretto Sarastro is simply Pamina's father's successor. Also, earlier in the opera, Sarastro tells Pamina, "Du liebest einen andern sehr. Zur Liebe will ich dich nicht zwingen" ("You love another very much. I will not force you to love.") which seems to imply that there was, at some point, some question of him marrying her himself.
Identiche.

Geweldige tenor. Muziek van Mozart waardig.
Tenor ?! :-)
The best Sarastros Salminen, Polgar, Frick, Moll
I like this one better than Kurt Moll for some reason, it's the only interpretation where you can actually understand what he is saying
This is 720p video quality, Moll's is sadly only 240p
He's great. My son is a bass opera singer
the best

I hope it never goes out of print. I watched this on VHS in 1994 and I've been hooked on opera ever since. It's an imperfect performance but Laszlo is lovely.
👍
Can somebody help us that`s our Homework?

Definitive version
Is it just the recording or is the orchestra really playing in Eb-major instead of E-major?

Love him but Kurt Moll is always on my mind in this aria.
I was very disappointed listening to Kurt Moll. Maybe towards the end of his career and not in the same class as Polgar who was perhaps one of the most underrated Opera stars.
I always find that Polgar's approach is by far more tender and emotional, and in my opinion a bit more musical than Moll's, however Moll has a massive voice and a very regal and powerful approach to the role.
i think half note has been lowered in this song
I noticed that also. I wonder why?
It is easier for him than an F#
It is more enjoyable.
@@nicholasneyhart396 bruh ur pfp is horrifying wtf
@izzy Why?
Nasal tone, bland
Then lets hear you sing it
WTF??????????????
