First and foremost, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the person who posted this video-it has become my favorite on RUclips. Ever since I discovered it, I’ve played it almost every night before going to bed, likely over 300 times. It helps me sleep very well. This video introduced me to this aria, and although Russian is foreign to me, I looked up the translated lyrics and was deeply moved by their poetic nature. They bring tears to my eyes as they remind me of a time when I had a much older boyfriend. And Mr. Polgar’s voice-how lyrical it is! Even to a musical amateur like myself, it’s evident that he possesses an extraordinary singing talent. His accurate interpretation and phrasing, along with a relaxed bass tone, have completely captivated me. I regret not discovering him while he was still alive. Lastly, a special thank you to Maestro Tchaikovsky for adding such wonderful song to parts of the story that were not in Pushkin’s original work. Thank you!

The highest possible artistry. Such sensitivity to the text, such phrasing, such honesty. The music shines through him. As with all the greatest artists.
He had such a presence on stage and added so much warmth to the roles he sang. I loved him as Leparello in Don Giovanni. But it breaks my heart a little bit every time I see him now knowing that he left this world all too soon
Simply magnificent! Maestro Polgar's expressive, warm, delicious, masculine sound is like a mink coat wrapping around the listener with a sensuous pleasure! His agile actor's face and lustrous eyes only enhance his performance! Lyrical and stylish, his Prince Gremin is one for the ages! Bravo! Thank you for posting this gem!
@@davegreene8588 Okay, it is great. Very elegant and fitting the part. The only spot where we might want more bass is the top notes. The are a bit bright for a bass. But he still does an amazing job.
I only heard him live once, as Bluebeard, but he had a remarkable voice - deep, rich and very lyrical. Pity the accompaniment here is so routine and pedestrian, he deserved better.
Warns my heart to read your thought 💚🙏 I think he was quite famous and known, at least within the classical musical world, in certain parts of the globe, mainly in various areas of Europe ✨ en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/L%C3%A1szl%C3%B3_Polg%C3%A1r_(bass) But indeed not 'picked up' globally as a 'celebrity', not like e.g. Carraras, Domingo and Pavarotti. Coming from a tiny 'tucked away' country from Central Europe, and from beyond the iron curtain at the time, a lot of great talents didn't/ don't make it to that level of Western/ English speaking world type of fame.. 🤷 And perhaps it's not that important either. They're still great gifts and spread beauty and joy to those who come across them 😇🌍
Tíz évesen hallottam először énekelni, számomra ő most is "Laci"!
Agreed, but you have to give it to Polgar. The man knew how to sing this piece and certainly much better than the standards we see today. Best regards!

Instant fan of László Polgár, never heard before.
Nie do wiary .Jaki wrażliwy człowiek. Dżentelmen. Cóż za piękne wykonanie.Dziękuję. Wielki szacunek. ❤
The look on his face after he ended the last note was just beautiful! What an artist's soul!
Tchaikovsky’s arias are underrated.

Magnifique : droit au coeur ❤️ ❤❤❤❤

Laszlo will always be one of the greats!!!
Bravo bravo bravo bravo
A handsome man with a handsome voice.

So well sung. It brings tears to my eyes. What an exquisie artist.

His prestance and tessiture remind me of Joseph Rouleau.
Nadie habrá tan hermoso como Lászlo Polgar y nadie cantará tan hermoso como él. Espéreme en el cielo maestro!.
So schön 😍
One of my favourite songs in opera. I love the voice of bass!
Elvarázsol. Gyönyörű. Nagyon szeretem Polgár László hangját és művészetét. Hiányzik.
The most extraordinary Prince Gremin... there is no other like him!
Ghiaurov????
Nice job but let’s not get carried away.
Macche' Ghiaurov, quello era un cannone.

My only question is that WHO THE HELL are those 21 who didn't like this?!
Well, it wasn’t me, but everyone has the right to have bad taste! However offensive that may be.
Splendid
A very fine bass sadly he passed by in 2010.
