One of the best review I’ve ever seen in terms of the detailed coverage in an interesting way. Thank you. I ordered mine and receiving it in a couple of days and I am more excited now. It is my first Omega.
Fantastic review. Appreciate legit criticism (so many watch reviews are pure fluff) even amongst the praise and loved the sizing comparison. Even though I've always thought it was too big for me, the new bracelet and this video has convinced me I need to go try it on.
I LOVE the breakdown of the size. I always thought the Speedy would be too big for me until I tried one on at a boutique while I was traveling. It fits almost exactly like a Sub.
Absolutely agree on never judge a watch by it’s picture. And yes, it really is an everyday watch because the bracelet is the most comfortable I’ve ever owned aside from my other watches
That's a nice two piece collection Sub and a Speedy that's all you need. I agree about the crown i wish it was larger or they would remove the crown guards like on the 321 Ed White I think that would make it easier to wind.
Great watch. I got my 1861 this week and i think it's a fantastic option. For me, it's a better buy than the 3861 for several reasons... but both are great options
Good point about the winding, still I would say it’s acceptable on the 3861, as the older 1861 I got is actually worse. I also got some older 321’s from the 60’s and oh my, it’s like butter…
I wind mine by running the side of the index finger along its length under the crown. I find I can wind it much faster than other watches and do it while I’m wearing it. The crown guard keeps the finger running level so you can do it very quickly without feeling you’ll torque the crown. I think that is the design? Either way, the Speedy is actually my favorite watch to wind because it’s much more functional: fast, not dainty, accessible. For sure the feel is more industrial, but in my head it feels tougher which for me keeps to the tool watch sense versus luxury timepiece (which in truth is what it is).
Awesome review! Very down-to-earth and real world, and the most informative on the new Speedy I’ve seen. Especially the in-depth discussion on its size and comparison with the 16610 Sub- so practical! Thank you for this wonderful review
Thanks for the video. I’m getting my speedy in a couple days and I’m very excited. The lugs on the Sub are not only longer but they have more overhang on the wrist.
Great review! I think this is the best one I've seen on youtube. I bought the hesalite 3861 about a month ago too, its a great piece for sure but couldn't agree more about the winding - crown does not have enough metal to get a good purchase on too, kinda hurts your fingers too! Thanks for the great video - you just gained another subscriber :)
I really enjoyed your video and it made me chuckle in places. I thought your opinions and presentation were top-notch and I think it is the best review of this model I have seen so far. I hope you continue to enjoy the legend that is the Speedmaster!
I've had my Sapphire Speedmaster 3861 for a couple of months now. Previously I had the first Speedy Sapphire Sandwich with the 1863 movement which I got used around 16 years ago. It had the now changed "First and only watch worn on the moon" inscription on the back (after it was discovered that during the Apollo 15 mission, Dave Scott, on his final moon walk had to use his backup Bulova prototype when his Speedmaster's crystal popped off). Lovely watch but the lack of hacking and the fact that it ran to or exceeded its +11 seconds a day rating despite being serviced led me to consider the new 2021 model. As far as I'm concerned, there's no comparison. The new model hacks and mine is running at +1 second/day. The new bracelet with its taper to 15mm, lies flat on my wrist and makes the watch itself wear smaller than its 42mm size. I also wear it on an Artem sailcloth strap and it looks great on it as well. To top it off, I sold my older Speedy to bring what I paid for the new one significantly down and made it a bit of a bargain.
It is funny, I have almost the exact same story. I went into a boutique to try on an Aqua Terra, but found it very underwhelming in person. I figured while I was there I would try on a speedy which I had always wrote off do to the 42mm diameter, but it wore perfectly. I haven’t bought it yet, and probably won’t be able to afford it this year, but I am hoping early 2023 will be my time for a speedy
Yeah 3861 is lovely in person! Hope you get yours soon. The winding... I found mine very pleasant from day 1. Maybe it varies depending on the person's hand size? Best regards
@@watchcraft more than welcome mate. I think you probably have 4 watches on my grail list in the aquanaut, the new hessalite speedy, the Hulk and the 16610. I find the only thing that spoils many of these channels is the monetisation and sponsorship eventually scews their opinions whereas these are your actual watches and your real experience. Why do we measure the “crown guards” on a speedy and not on any other watch The speedy by normal measurements would be 39.7-40mm That’s why it wears like a 40 Love how you actually went into the detail of this Bezel and dial
Your videos are simply great, best channel, you are a master of common sense watch wisdom. As for the Speedmaster, I bought a sapphire version last week. Have the reduced for 20 years and decided to get this new “wearable” version. I also have smaller (yet manly) wrists, like yourself. You are spot on about the winding. I even went to the AD to try if other Speedmasters were as difficult to wind. Most were smoother but I think there is a tolerance range for spring resistance, it’s not a defect, it seems we got “hard springs”. The clasp is outstanding but I adjust the micro adjustment on warm weather days. It would be great to have had the “on the fly” adjustment Omega offer with the Speedmaster Chronoscope.
Thanks man. Congratulations on your new watch. I found that it became a bit easier to wind after about 4 weeks. Still not a pleasant feeling though. I agree with the micro adjustment, would be nice to have this option without the use of tools.
@@watchcraft update on the winding issue. I was by the Omega Boutique and saw the watchmaker technician was there. He confirmed the tolerance for the winding resistance can vary, but a drop of silicon oil (at Omega) on the outside of the crown stem improved the winding action significantly. I think it has to do with the stem protection friction.
@@watchcraft sure, give it a try. I don’t know how it fixed the issue, but it did. Winding is now a smoother experience and I can tell when it’s fully wound. Before it was so hard when approaching fully wound that I wasn’t sure if it was the winding resistance or the spring limit. The watchmaker just placed a micro drop of silicone oil on the outside of the crown tube near the underside of the crown edge and pushed the crown to lock position. To be honest I was reluctant to mess with a brand new watch, even on the outside. I’m a watch movement ignorant, didn’t want the oil to find its way down the stem. But he is a 30 year experienced watchmaker - he was in fact servicing a Speedmaster Schumacher - and assured it was the correct action. What he explained is that the inner crown seal (rubber?) can cause the crown to friction, it has nothing to do with the spring. He concluded this by turning the crown backwards. I know it’s a long explanation, but you seemed interested. Whatever you do, I suggest doing with the watchmaker, it has to be a specific oil for the crown. Cheers
There is a thread on the Omega forums regarding fitting the chronoscope clasp with micro adjust to the new speedy. Many have ordered the clasp direct from Omega and it fits perfectly on the 3861.
I bought mine june 2022, it is really hurts winding it every morning but i read from someone comment to wind it with the dial down and it work, my finger does not hurt anymore.
Very honest and complete review of the moonwatch wearingexperience. The reason I sold mine with the 1861 movement was purely because of the difficulty in winding with the short/slim crown. It hurt your fingers like you rightly pointed out when winding. I will consider getting one if Omega change the crown to make smoother to wind.
This is exactly the reason why I couldn’t commit to the new Speedy! I dreaded winding the 1861 due to the combination of the crown size and crown guard and was hoping the 3861 would have a larger crown. Maybe I just have fragile fingers or something but it really can be literal pain to wind!
I must say it has gotten much better in the meantime. After about 4 months of usage. Now it winds really smooth and can actually be enjoyed. Also I was told that you can speed up that process by asking your watchmaker to lube the mechanism.

It's a great watch, it is an icon for sure in horology world. I've also tried this new version of the Moonwatch at Omega Boutique but everytime i tend to buy this beauty i just don't like the feeling of its case thickness unlike Submariner. Compare to Rolex Submariner, Speedy's case is quite chunky, where the Sub is extremely refined watch and feels just great. Other than its over thickness case wise, i don't know any better looking watch within this price range actually! I wish Omega could be able to improve their case designs and brings thinner ones instead.. Great review btw, and enjoy your Speedy!
Huh? Submariner I also have, it feels much chunkier than the speedmaster 3861...perhaps you're referring to the 1863? Case design of the speedmaster 3861 is broken into 3 sections so you don't feel it at all.. plus much of the thickness.is the dome of the hesalite or sapphire... submariner is just pure thickness bec the crystal sits flushed to the bezel. Also the sub's bezel is quite thick making it look bigger. The sub's winding crown has a tendency to dig into the back of your hand too. And i wouldn't call both the speedmaster and submariner extremely refined. Bec everytime I hold these 2 and immediately switch to holding a JLC or Zenith chronomaster..the difference in refinement is jarring. The sub and speedmaster feel so crude compared to them. Bec let's face it, omega and Rolex are both mass production industrial watches. They are what they are..mid market luxury/premium pieces. Regards
I have small wrists. I totally disregard the dial to wrist rules. I will wear a Jacob & Co, RM or Aventi if I want to (I don't cuz I can't afford them, but if I had the money and liked them I would). Otherwise I wouldn't be able to wear many watches. I'd be stuck with JLC Reverso and that's it. Watch snobs will chew me out over this but I don't care.
Firstly a very nice review. I totally get your choice. I also didn't consider a Speedmaster until i tried one :-) I don't get your problems with winding... the crown in the new model is even bigger and sticks more out than on the older models. I don't have any problems winding it. But i guess it is am matter of "Fingerspitzengefühl" ;-)
The wind up will be easier after a few months. You may try to put some force against crown when winding up to make it more pleasant. Had the same issues with my 1861. Not comparable to other movements but it’s okay. I don’t get why the crowns runs backward after each wind

Great review. Is the issue with the winding of a crown still a problem? I ask because I saw on another comment that you said it wasn’t a problem after a few months? I am contemplating between the new Speedy, new Submariner Date and new Explorer…either to be an everyday watch …
So it’s the speedy, the other two don’t exist. The speedy is a fun watch with the story behind it, I’m going to get the sapphire sandwich this week. I have long stopped looking at the Rolex, the brand sucks, and people get a bad impression about you if you wear it, out for criticism, or even break in your home, or mugging. The speedy interests people, it’s nice.
Does keeping the chrono running continuously reduce the power reserve more than if it’s static. I imagine it should not, just cause some wear and tear on the chrono parts?
I had the same intuition as you. But apparently it does reduce the power reserve. I couldn't find hard numbers on it, but it seems to be a significant reduction of up to 20%.
the omega looks like it is not too large for you. do you wear it loose ? - do you feel the case edges are wicked sharp ? timeless watch channel brings light to the sharpness . I like the omega . did you try to pick up a moonswatch ? be safe ~ JDS/CT
Oh That guy is pure bs. Try if for yourself and see if you can even get a scratch. I got 1 recently ... it's a complete non issue..even my kids didn't feel anything. Try it for yourself. Regards
Got both...the 3861 speedmaster is much more comfortable. The winding crown doesn't dig into back of your hand like the Submariner. You'll get used to the winding crown after about 1 week with the sub though. The submariner will feel very chunky compared to the finesse of the speedmaster. It wears thin because of the case design. . Speedmaster Bracelet is very fluid...it actually feels silky on the wrist. Regards
Yes I heard people talk about the sharpness of the case. I examined it closely and still didn't notice any sharp edges. Screws on both sides but I already sized the bracelet myself and it's quite easy to do.
Ahhh that's complete bs. You won't even feel it. When i went to pickup mine, I didn't say anything and told my kids to try it on and off ..nada. wife also nada. Not everyone is saying it. Only the ppl parroting that bs channel's skewed opinion. Infact you can check out uptick watches upload on 3861..see what they, actual owners have to say on that.
Great review, it didn’t need the swearing, shame. I really like this 2021 model, but the winding every few days, on a crown that’s designed for the fingers of a six year old doesn’t fill me with joy. The jury is still out I’m afraid.

Many of those haven't even tried it themselves! Just passing on heresay.
I'm just wondering how you got a left hand drive Speedy and Sub.
I put an Aqua Terra Bracelet on my Speedmaster.
bold move
Good move, I tried my railmaster bracelet on mine and much prefer it.
A very nice review, why did you have some shots with a reversed image though?
Thanks. I held the watch upside down sometimes. My bad,
The 40mm Sub looks tiny compared to my 41mm.
the omega looks like it is not too large for you. do you wear it loose ? - do you feel the case edges are wicked sharp ? timeless watch channel brings light to the sharpness . I like the omega . did you try to pick up a moonswatch ? be safe ~ JDS/CT
Oh That guy is pure bs. Try if for yourself and see if you can even get a scratch. I got 1 recently ... it's a complete non issue..even my kids didn't feel anything.
Try it for yourself.
Regards
How many likes did you take out from both sides and what size is your wrist?
Aqua Terra is also 42mm
What is your opinion about comfort between Sub and Speedy - which one is most comfortable?
Got both...the 3861 speedmaster is much more comfortable. The winding crown doesn't dig into back of your hand like the Submariner. You'll get used to the winding crown after about 1 week with the sub though. The submariner will feel very chunky compared to the finesse of the speedmaster. It wears thin because of the case design.
. Speedmaster Bracelet is very fluid...it actually feels silky on the wrist.

15:25 video clip reversed or chronograph running backwards!
It’s a mirror image
new improved Chrono on the 2021 model. allows time travel
Omega please DO NOT sacrifice the beauty of the watch to make the crown easier to turn. That Hamilton crown looks terrible
What about the sharpness of the bracelet and case everyone was going on about? Also, are the screw heads on both sides?
Yes I heard people talk about the sharpness of the case. I examined it closely and still didn't notice any sharp edges. Screws on both sides but I already sized the bracelet myself and it's quite easy to do.
Ahhh that's complete bs. You won't even feel it. When i went to pickup mine, I didn't say anything and told my kids to try it on and off ..nada. wife also nada.
Not everyone is saying it. Only the ppl parroting that bs channel's skewed opinion. Infact you can check out uptick watches upload on 3861..see what they, actual owners have to say on that.
Nice
👌👌👌👌💪💪💪💪
Why do you wear your watches backwards?
you mean why I wear them on the right wrist? I'm left handed. Plus it's way more comfortable because the crown doesn't stab the back of your hand.
I agree it feels like shit winding it lol.
I guess it really depends on the individual hand sizes..😁 me and my friends love winding it hahaha
Watch is on your wrong wrist
Great review, it didn’t need the swearing, shame. I really like this 2021 model, but the winding every few days, on a crown that’s designed for the fingers of a six year old doesn’t fill me with joy. The jury is still out I’m afraid.
I think it looks far too big for your wrist and therefore you should send it to me for my 20cm wrist… thank you
so glad you told. on my way to the post office now 😊
It needs to be 36mm or 38mm, otherwise NO TY.
