Great review and congrats. This watch is a life long keeper. For those who are on the fence on upgrading. The new 3861 bracelet fits perfectly on a 1861 Speedy. Just get the bracelet for the sapphire (polished center links) 3861 for $600 USD and you're set to go. No new Speedy needed. Just make sure they sell you the new adjustable clasp Speedy bracelet. Both 1861/3861 for me are pretty much the same and both have pro's that I can't decide if I should get a 3861. I will say the dials on the 1861 will patina slightly. Mine shows color fading (I'm outdoors a lot). The 1861 has a beautiful smooth matte grey/black dial (in sunlight it looks grey). Then again the step dial on the 3861 is just as beautiful. Both wear the same on my wrist. The only con on the 1861 & 3861 is water resistance. Personally I never liked the bracelet for the 1861 even though it was not an issue for me. Thankfully my wrist is a perfect sweet spot at 7 inches, so I can wear large or small watches. I will say the 1836 sapphire sandwich movement is more decorated, smoother polished edges. Unlike the 3861. The movement edges are machine polished and look like they are not fully finished. You can see the machine marks on the movement bridge/plate edges.
Thanks for this elaborate comment! For me personally I much prefer the look of the 3861 mainly for the bracelet and the depth and detail of the dial. No wrong choices though here, the 1861 has a more rugged toolish look. Can’t go wrong with a Speedy ;)
Look at Omega trying to be like the Bulova Lunar Pilot with that stepped dial 😅. I have the Lunar Pilot, the other moonwatch, and love it. I like the Omega as well ( I am Swiss) but will never be willing to pay that kind of money. Good video. Salut.
Great Review thanks. I own the 3861 Sapphire Sandwich and love the watch, however after 12 months of trouble free ownership it's gone back to Omega. When fully wound, if I engaged the chronograph it would stop working. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem with the movement. Cheers.
@@TheWatchScientists No it's been very carefully looked after. Ive done a little research and apparently there have been some reported cases of the movement stopping.
Thanks for your great review, I am also tempted by this model. I just want to make sure I get enough wear given I usually wear my Daytona. In any case, I am torn between the sapphire crystal and the hesalite option. If they were the same price would you still go for the hesalite option over the sapphire? I wish they had an option of having an open case back on the hesalite version as it’s nice to see the movement….
Hesalite all day long no matter the price, that's the original Moonwatch, there's only one Moonwatch and this is the one imo. I think it's well different enough from a Daytona and just as versatile if not even more so. Thanks for commenting!
I prefer my sapphire for the simple reason that it's REALLY HARD to scratch the crystal, and it's REALLY EASY to scratch the plexiglas. Plus, the presentation back allows me to marvel at the 3861 calibre; a true mechanical marvel.
For me the caseback would be a plus. I do like the look of the plexi (it is definitely different and has a stronger vintage vibe). And it is easier to polish the scratches out whereas the sapphire will shatter if it is pushed too hard. But of course sapphire is the more durable material
Great video, considering this watch as my next purchase hopefully in some months… I recognized Luxembourg in the opening video. You’re based in Luxembourg?
The previous generations didn't really interest me that much - just because of the point you brought up; the bracelet just made the watch look too large. The 3861 though together with the new bracelet which is more subtle (almost jubilee look) is absolutely perfect in my eyes.
ahhh! i can't choose between the heselite or sapphire. I like the durability of the sapphire but the brushed bracelet on the heselite is more appealing...
@@TheWatchScientists did as well (even the aquaterra world traveler) but still undecided - both fit my wrist perfectly… just sometime I think the Seamaster are more robust for daily wear
Great review, I agree with you. I have had mine for four months as well. The only issue I have is the clasp on the strap (too big for me) so I wear it on a nato for now. I see you also have a Pelagos - I used to have one that I sold to buy an Aqua Terra. I loved it but unfortunately it was a little big.
Thank you, that means a lot :) What do you mean too big? Is it too long or too wide? The Aqua Terra is a great watch and there are many different versions, which one do you have?
@@TheWatchScientists I would just say it's too bulky: too long perhaps in the sense that it goes a little bit round your wrist. The Aqua Terra that I have is a white 38mm. I wear it on its bracelet most of the year and on a blue nato for the holidays. It is very versatile. I also have an OP 39mm in white.
The clasp is too big?? The clasp on this new bracelet is tiny. The bracelet narrows all the way down to 15mm at the clasp. You must have a 5 inch wrist
I'm definitely going to buy one in the next 18months. Does anybody know if the used prices are expected to fall a little over time, with this model being so new?
Price for new ones will rise, so those for used ones will stay at the current level more or less I guess. We are talking about luxury watch market, looking back for the last two years, what would you expect for the near future?
Thank you! You should look at it that way, the hesalite scratches more easily but it can also easily be polished for like 20€. I would go for the sapphire version but only because it has an open caseback (Chris). Nele obviously has the hesalite as he prefers that one.
That’s for sure, but i am just saying it’s easy to fix. They even did it for free at the watch store where i usually go to. Or even with polywatch. So if you want the historically accurate one don’t let that put you off
@@TheWatchScientists Thank you for sharing, I am leaning towards haselite because of Nele's review haha. I wish he can touch more on his daily experience with the watch and how he dealt with the scratches (if any).
@@BryanWongsg Hey Bryan, Nele here 😉 Glad to see you enjoyed the review and that you’re leaning towards the hesalite version. It's a good choice! So when I used to work for Omega this was my daily watch and I also wore it quite a lot outside of work. So yes my watch definitely picked up some scratches on the glass. Have I polished them? No First of all unless you're scraping against a wall the scratches are only lightly visible depending on the light. Second of all, I don't think scratches look bad, and as Chris said, you can always get it polished for a few quid! So don't be afraid of the scratches, they give character and show that you at least wear your watch 😉
@@TheWatchScientists hey Nele, thank you for sharing your experiences with me. OK I am sold, I will be getting the hesalite next week. ☺️ Thank you so much for the beautiful review, keep it up!
I've had the Speedmaster Reduced for 20 years and got the new Professional Sapphire version a month ago. The watch is stunning and wears great but winding it is really unpleasant. I went to the AD to see if other Speedmasters were as difficult to wind, and most are not, even when almost fully wound. But apparently there is nothing wrong with the watch, they explained there is a range of tolerance for the spring resistance. When I was buying the watch I noticed it and asked the AD but they obviously discarded it. I think I got a “hard spring”. How is your winding experience? Did you notice the crown moves backwards after every spin? Also, having the “on-the-fly” adjustment clasp on the Chronoscope a few month later is a shame. Not like Omega to do this.
No I don’t, my experience winding it is superb. It sounds like this is an individual case … I think the clasp thing shouldn’t be too much of a problem. You have to think about the fact that they also need to add improvements along the way with various models, otherwise everything is unveiled in one go which is not good marketing wise. I hope that you’ll still be able to enjoy your Speedy as it is a fantastic piece.
It is perfect 👍🏼but in general am not chronograph fan, its too complicated and very delicate for daily beating, also not to mention the newer updates and co axial is still immature tech yet
Very delicate?? You’re clueless. This watch has to go through extensive testing to get the metas certification. Not to mention the testing NASA put it through decades ago to qualify for space flight.
I’ve seen people swim with it but i wouldn’t recommend jumping into the water with it. Normally 50m water resistance is recommended for swimming. So if you don’t have to i wouldn’t risk it. If you do don’t use the chronograph pushers!
Well, Moonwatch is caliber 321, not a 3861. While it can be called a Moonwatch as sharing many things (including look) with the early generation. It's accurate, yes, master chronometer after all, but is it best chronograph? What about jumping seconds hand over hand second or even second when you press stop/start button (not every time, but you can check it playing with the chrono) because it doesn't have a vertical clutch? Try other calibers of the Omega, like 9900 on Seamaster, it's much smoother and same chronometer.
The Speedmaster professional is traditionally called Moonwatch and the 321 is just one specific iconic movement reference, the first one that went to the moon. In todays Speedmaster you find the 3861. Depends of what you consider as “best”. Of course there is more complicated chronographs like the Ratrappant Chronographs or foudroyant chronographs. We just say that this is a very accurate watch and in it’s price sector you will have a hard time finding a better more accurate and robust chronograph :)
@@TheWatchScientists You can still find 321 but it costs two times more than 3861 and I am sure you know why (not just because it is rare and discontinued, it is still in production). Despite 321 has gone about 3 generations since inception as a true Moonwatch, it's sad but with 3861 movement Speedy is a simply improved iteration of the iconic watch (after 1861 as well). Best for me in terms of Chrono is accuracy and how smooth it is for start/stop, recording time, how easy to read the dials. More complicated chronographs? For what? In terms of price - I bought IWC pilot chronograph (with Valjoux 7750 caliber) shortly after I bought Speedy. IWC as a bit cheaper alternative (because IWC doesn't use millions to pay celebrities for promotion apparently, unlike the Omega), does have a history of the brand and series of innovations. But what really disappointed me in Omega is how chronograph works (what I have mentioned - how it's starts and stops, you can google the "Speedmaster Chrono hand jumps forward", moreover there were a lot of issues with Speedy shortly after it was announced with 3861 movement. It's a great looking watch and accurate, but I would not say it is the very best on the market. Opinion is of course subjective.
There are quite a few on the crystal but you don‘t really see them if you don‘t pay attention to it.. It‘s not that bad. Plus, you can polish it whenever…
It is also a great watch! Especially for people who enjoy smaller sized watches. I got myself the Reduced also because of the size and because the automatic movement is more practical. The 38 doesn’t have the moonwatch manual winding movement but instead has Omega‘s Co-axial escapement and automatic winding. If you want the 38 for the size maybe do consider trying on the new moonwatch as it does wear much better than the previous generation 😊 Hope that helps
@@yousefa6143 you'll find the new generation in every Omega dealer, ask for it and they'll show it to you, the old one is not really being sold anymore anyways. but the one you see in this video is the new one/the latest
The Speedmaster 38 is a different model to the Speedmaster professional (from this video). You can buy both new in an Omega store but the Professional is „newer“ because it was released in 2021 while the 38 was released in 2017 i think.
The movement is, not talking about the case. The movement is a Master Chronometer making it significantly more resistant to magnetism and shock than the previous 1861.
@@TheWatchScientists I’m still not sure it’s worth the extra 2k for the new movement.. the OG survived space travel after all.. so it must be pretty robust
@@dazlarg it's subjective, the 2k + are not only for the movement, it's for a slimmer case, a significantly more refined bracelet that lets the watch wear better on smaller wrists as opposed to the previous generation, and a new clasp. Not to mention the new step-dial. When all combined together with the new movement I'd say it's worth it. This is obviously subjective, but all I can say is I would not have spent the money on the previous gen, but I did on this and I never regretted it.
Thanks! I love the open caseback on the sapphire sandwich 🤤 i had a quick look at your channel and you have great videos! I think you should improve your audio which can be easily achieved with a rather cheap microphone. Have a look at this one 😊
i was considering between a rolex Datejust 36 or 41 and Omega speedmaster the sam version you have.. idkn what the Hell Omega is thinking in recent years but the Speedy costs as much as a rolex datejust.. for a painted lume and mqnual wind.. i know the story and all but Datejust was just better value for what you get, bracelet , lume, legability, white gold bezel., automatic 70 hours…Omega should come to some sense with these price increases,, aint no way im paying 9300€ for the speedy…
Prices are indeed increasing too much, however out of all the bunch, a Speedy (the latest 3861) is “worth” it in my opinion, but the Speedy and DJ are two very different pieces and shouldn’t be compared imo.
Would you want to see a video about the sapphire Speedmaster? We have a video about the rose gold Speedmaster, which has all the additional features of a sapphire Speedmaster. Have a look at that :)
Pass on this design, sharp edges detected.. .. ok it doesnt get on wrist but if i for tht amount of money... i expect flawlesss. The previous generation doesnt have sharp edges on body and near pin bars
@@TheWatchScientists yes it does no harm but again the finishing is . A major flaw.. ...compared to previous speedy or any notable watch manufacturers...

Look at Omega trying to be like the Bulova Lunar Pilot with that stepped dial 😅. I have the Lunar Pilot, the other moonwatch, and love it. I like the Omega as well ( I am Swiss) but will never be willing to pay that kind of money. Good video. Salut.
😂
Keep wearing those shitty Bulova then … nobody cares
Thank you for the good/interesting review/perspective.
You’re welcome, glad you enjoyed it!
Great Review thanks. I own the 3861 Sapphire Sandwich and love the watch, however after 12 months of trouble free ownership it's gone back to Omega. When fully wound, if I engaged the chronograph it would stop working. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem with the movement. Cheers.
Thanks for commenting!
Very surprised by this issue, it’s known to be a superb movement. Did it take any major hit?
@@TheWatchScientists No it's been very carefully looked after. Ive done a little research and apparently there have been some reported cases of the movement stopping.
That’s a shame! Hope they’ll sort it out for you soon
Very informative. I subscribed your channel and pulled a trigger for a speedy. Thanks :)
Thank you so much! That’s so cool did we convince you on buying the watch? 😊
2020 is not old. My Speedy is from 1967, just fully serviced ! My passion is 1960s pieces, but then that's because I was born then.
Thank you! And yes we’re a Luxembourg based channel 😉
Beautiful shots of a beautiful watch :)
Thank you 😉
The previous generations didn't really interest me that much - just because of the point you brought up; the bracelet just made the watch look too large. The 3861 though together with the new bracelet which is more subtle (almost jubilee look) is absolutely perfect in my eyes.
Exactly right 😉
ahhh! i can't choose between the heselite or sapphire. I like the durability of the sapphire but the brushed bracelet on the heselite is more appealing...
Choices!
Hesalite imo is more than durable enough + you can always polish it
I love the new Speedmaster sapphire but I love the new Seamaster 300 heritage as well … hard time to choose
They also look great! So which one will it be? ;)
@@TheWatchScientists not sure yet 🙈🙈 just love that blue Seamaster 300 heritage (stunning) but as as the Speedmaster sapphire 🙈🙈🤣
Have you tried them on already?
That mostly helps 😊
@@TheWatchScientists did as well (even the aquaterra world traveler) but still undecided - both fit my wrist perfectly… just sometime I think the Seamaster are more robust for daily wear
@@impexRQ get them both!! Those are literally my favorite 2 watches. I want to own them both
Gorgeous watch and great video!
Thank you!
Thank you, that means a lot :)
What do you mean too big? Is it too long or too wide?
The Aqua Terra is a great watch and there are many different versions, which one do you have?
@@TheWatchScientists I would just say it's too bulky: too long perhaps in the sense that it goes a little bit round your wrist. The Aqua Terra that I have is a white 38mm. I wear it on its bracelet most of the year and on a blue nato for the holidays. It is very versatile. I also have an OP 39mm in white.
Ok i understand, sounds like you have a nice collection of watches ;)
The clasp is too big?? The clasp on this new bracelet is tiny. The bracelet narrows all the way down to 15mm at the clasp. You must have a 5 inch wrist
Omega made someone really happy it seems 😅
Sure did!
Great video, I appreciate the update. Question, does the chronograph run past 12 hours? Thanks
Good question! As far as I know 12 hours is max stop-time. Otherwise it would be too hard to read on the subdials.
Great review- thank you 👍
Can you please tell me what size wrist you have?
Thx
Thank you! I never actually measured my wrist, but what I can tell you is that it is smaller than 17,5 cm.
I'm definitely going to buy one in the next 18months. Does anybody know if the used prices are expected to fall a little over time, with this model being so new?
They will fall, by half, source, none I just know things
Price for new ones will rise, so those for used ones will stay at the current level more or less I guess. We are talking about luxury watch market, looking back for the last two years, what would you expect for the near future?
It’s omega. You will be able to get it for at least 20-30% off on Jomashop within a years time when all the hype (like this video) wears off.
@@whereRbearsTeeth actually ended up getting one with 28% off in December at an AD
Great review...a lot of useful informations, thank you 👍
Thanks a lot 😉
Just subscribed to your channel. Awesome review. What do you think of the Ed White 321? Overpriced to some but loved by die hard collectors.
I think it’s a stunning piece but wouldn’t necessarily spend that money on it
And thank you! Welcome on board 😉
Great review buddy, where did you buy your Nasa Shirt? it looks super cool with the moon watch!
Thank you! I can’t remember where I bought it but the brand is Alpha Industries
Top Review 👌💥👍❗ What's your wrist size ?
Thanks a lot! I have about a 15.5-16cm wrist
Great review! I am looking to get one but can’t decide haselite or sapphire. Does the hesalite scratch easily ?
@@BryanWongsg Hey Bryan, Nele here 😉
Glad to see you enjoyed the review and that you’re leaning towards the hesalite version. It's a good choice! So when I used to work for Omega this was my daily watch and I also wore it quite a lot outside of work. So yes my watch definitely picked up some scratches on the glass. Have I polished them? No
First of all unless you're scraping against a wall the scratches are only lightly visible depending on the light.
☺️ Thank you so much for the beautiful review, keep it up!
great video. keep up the good work
Thank you!

Nice review, Is the loom good and lasting?
Thank you!
Yes the lume is really nice and lasts long enough (can’t put a time on it)
Love your original review, keep it up!
Btw, may I know what's your wrist size?
Thank you, that means a lot! it should be between 14 and 16cm
@@TheWatchScientists thanks for the info my friend, stay safe and take care! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 look forward to more watch review
Thank you they will keep coming 😉
It sounds like this is an individual case …
I think the clasp thing shouldn’t be too much of a problem. You have to think about the fact that they also need to add improvements along the way with various models, otherwise everything is unveiled in one go which is not good marketing wise. I hope that you’ll still be able to enjoy your Speedy as it is a fantastic piece.
It will wind easier after a few months. Use some force against the crown when winding.
It is perfect 👍🏼but in general am not chronograph fan, its too complicated and very delicate for daily beating, also not to mention the newer updates and co axial is still immature tech yet
How is the co-axial immature if it has been developed for over 10 years?
@@TheWatchScientists xD
Very delicate?? You’re clueless. This watch has to go through extensive testing to get the metas certification. Not to mention the testing NASA put it through decades ago to qualify for space flight.
Omega says you can swim with it.... Do you go diving often?
I’ve seen people swim with it but i wouldn’t recommend jumping into the water with it. Normally 50m water resistance is recommended for swimming. So if you don’t have to i wouldn’t risk it. If you do don’t use the chronograph pushers!
How big is your wrist for reference ?
I am not sure but i think 15-16cm 😊
@@TheWatchScientists you’ve given three different answers to this so far. Just measure your wrist.
What is the circumference of your wrist in cm?
It is 15,5-16cm
It's a handsome watch.
well said lad.
How many links did you remove from each side?
It’s been awhile I can’t remember but it was at least 3. Maybe between 3&5
Well, Moonwatch is caliber 321, not a 3861.
@@russkiytube The 321 movement uses a column wheel vs cam on the 3861. Don't know how much that affects the cost.
Its the perfect beautiful watch and my sapphire sandwich is only one second off after 24 hours
The sapphire sandwich is amazing
How are the scratches?
There are quite a few on the crystal but you don‘t really see them if you don‘t pay attention to it.. It‘s not that bad. Plus, you can polish it whenever…
how about omega speedmaster 38 moonwatch ? is it good ?
It is also a great watch! Especially for people who enjoy smaller sized watches. I got myself the Reduced also because of the size and because the automatic movement is more practical. The 38 doesn’t have the moonwatch manual winding movement but instead has Omega‘s Co-axial escapement and automatic winding.
If you want the 38 for the size maybe do consider trying on the new moonwatch as it does wear much better than the previous generation 😊
Hope that helps
@@TheWatchScientists yeah i really need small size for my hand lol , but which is the new generation ? and which is the old generation ?
@@yousefa6143 you'll find the new generation in every Omega dealer, ask for it and they'll show it to you, the old one is not really being sold anymore anyways. but the one you see in this video is the new one/the latest
@@TheWatchScientists so , thats mean , speedmaster co-axial chronometer 38 , older than this watch on the video ?
The Speedmaster 38 is a different model to the Speedmaster professional (from this video). You can buy both new in an Omega store but the Professional is „newer“ because it was released in 2021 while the 38 was released in 2017 i think.
More robust than the last gen?? … how so?
@@TheWatchScientists I hear you

@@TheWatchScientists Thanks for stopping by. I did order a new microphone recently so audio quality should improve in my future videos.
Great! 😊 good luck with your channel
i was considering between a rolex Datejust 36 or 41 and Omega speedmaster the sam version you have.. idkn what the Hell Omega is thinking in recent years but the Speedy costs as much as a rolex datejust.. for a painted lume and mqnual wind.. i know the story and all but Datejust was just better value for what you get, bracelet , lume, legability, white gold bezel., automatic 70 hours…Omega should come to some sense with these price increases,, aint no way im paying 9300€ for the speedy…
Prices are indeed increasing too much, however out of all the bunch, a Speedy (the latest 3861) is “worth” it in my opinion, but the Speedy and DJ are two very different pieces and shouldn’t be compared imo.
Sapphire please
Would you want to see a video about the sapphire Speedmaster?
We have a video about the rose gold Speedmaster, which has all the additional features of a sapphire Speedmaster. Have a look at that :)
It's not very big
Pass on this design, sharp edges detected.. .. ok it doesnt get on wrist but if i for tht amount of money... i expect flawlesss. The previous generation doesnt have sharp edges on body and near pin bars
I actually love the sharp edges on the watch, I think it looks great and as you said it does no harm to the wrist
@@TheWatchScientists yes it does no harm but again the finishing is . A major flaw.. ...compared to previous speedy or any notable watch manufacturers...
Don’t see the “flaw”, I think the finishing on this watch is much nicer to the previous one. But each to their own.
I agree to disagree
The speedy is so over hyped
It’s simply a very good product at a very nice price, not to mention the history behind. Of course it’s going to get a lot of attention. Over-hyped I would not say because the watch delivers.
And Rolex is what?
Rolex doesnt exist in my world, but omega sure does!
I thought so too for a very long time. Then I slapped one of these ones on my arm a few months ago. Now this is my next buy, and it’s a keeper, one of the few ones that will stay in the family.
The best chronograph but you ll never use it .they need to put date on it
But when you need it it’s there. A date could ruin the layout
