@@WatchAdvisor After this video I begin to like the new model. I wasn't convinced about the new bracelet. It is an improvement upon the previous but I would preferred it to be 3 linked instead of 5 ( like the speedmaster's 2 for example). Maybe they should have paired the hesalite model with a 3 linked bracelet, since they chose to have the two version with more obvious differences. Also I'd love to see a two tone version with steel and moonshine gold case and bracelet. Would be a cool watch!
I take the Speedmaster over a Daytona any day. But that is me and tastes are different. My Speedy went everywhere with me. In my novice endeavour to learn about the art of mechanical watches, I somehow find your presentation genuinely intended to teach and advise. I have learned a lot. Thank you.
Your passion for accuracy shows on your explanation for the 2-dot treatment for the frequency. Bravo! Nobody does that on the Internet. Also you correctly pointed out how so many famous watchmakers “cheat” us by printing dots wrongly since few people with money to spare really care about such things (or understand).
Every serious manufacturer of a chronograph should sell it as a precision instrument... admost and not only almost! Little details make the difference and stand for true passion. Design can’t be an excuse for failure... Even though the entire mechanical watch per se is completely anachronistic and no one really needs one, it should be perfectly executed, since we spend lots of money and we deserve the best possible quality under all aspects. The new Speedmaster is better than ever...

Wow! This is the best watch video I've ever seen! I just got my SS on bracelet on 10.7.23 and I am very pleased with it. I have wanted a "Moonwatch" since the 70's and it looks like my timing is excellent. The 3861 with all its technical / mechanical advancements is amazing. The new 5 link melt on your wrist bracelet with the recently introduced on the fly micro length adjustment. The new stepped dial, lume, domed hands, dot over 90, etc... is close to perfection. @@WatchAdvisor Agreed- very thorough overview and great camera work as well. One question- what about scratches? How much less scratch resistant is the hesalite than the sapphire? Thank you!
@@JW-tv4ry Much more of course! The Sapphire Crystal will not scratch at all under normal use, whilst the Hesalite glass will show some scratches... All my Speedmaster Moonwatches do have a Hesalite glass and I will also buy the new one with Hesalite glass. I never had real issues and I love that "patina" that build up after a while. And you can always change the Hesalite later when you service the watch. So at least for me it is the only ways to wear a Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch...
@@WatchAdvisor Excellent, thanks so much for your insight... very interesting and I must admit this is a very hard choice. Sticking with tradition in a continuation of a beautiful design or the function and views of the sapphire sandwich... either way, great choices!
By far, the best and deepest review. So informative. I managed to get my 1st Omega, the Saphire sandwich for my 40th birthday almost 6 weeks earlier (birthday is end of march) and yes, the watch is still in the box fully stickered. In my opinion, yes the consistency is important, but I would love to see a Speedmaster with a ceramic bezel and even more important with the instant micro adjustment as you mentioned. Maybe I’m too newschool but overall, I’m happy, thankful and extremely humbled to be able to comfortably afford this watch.

About to turn 40 myself in a year, this will be a birthday gift to myself. I’m actually happy it has an aluminum bezel still, in 20 years the Patina on this thing is going to look out of this world. Bad thing about ceramic is it doesn’t really Patina much if at all

Love the 3861 movement upgrades! Thanks for highlighting these very important details and complications! superb and spectacular review! Without question, this watch is worth the additional cost, for a Master Chronometer and added features!
WOW, can't believe it, so every single Omega Speedmaster after the 321 calibre can't actually be used safely for measuring elapsed time or unit/time measurements with the tachymeter. Astounding revelation. Thank you.
The reading of the 1/6th of a second was not possible since the graduation of the scale was printed for 1/5th of a second... Now it has been corrected...
I have to say your review was fantastic 👏. The level of detail and information was superb. I never considered that most chronograph dials are not reflecting the movement of the particular watch caliber and are inaccurate! This comes as a shock as most people assume patek philippe and audemars piguet are high end and high cost watches. Liked and subscribed!
They are! Most kept the dial design with four dots dating back of the area of 18.000 A/h chronographs... 21.600, 28.800 followed and the graduation did not change... the four dots would only work for 36.000 A/h, but readability is poor... Great review. Omega hit this one out of the park 💯IMO. The proportions, small details, METAS certification, hacking, Omega logo, dot over 90, female end-links, tapering bracelet, diminished weight, stepped dial, and historically referenced bracelet style are masterfully refined!

Hi Alexander, this is the first time I am meeting you. These days I have huge interest on Omegas, I want to buy one Constellation for myself and one for my wife to have matching watches. I also have huge interest on Moon watch because of its looks and history. I am a pilot and a newbie watch collector, and in my opinion Moonwatch and Navitimer would be the best looking watches in flight deck. So I am watching videos about Moon watch, and when I saw your video which is 50 mins length, before I begin watching I laughed and said my wife “look at this crazy guy, he made 50mins video for this watch how come?” But to be honest I watched whole video without accelerating or skipping and enjoyed every minute even, second of it. The most Complete review about the Speedy... Great job!!! I got mine less than a week ago (Sapphire version) and it is a total beauty... METAS certification and all the testing to the new movement is the reason that convinced me to get the Speedmaster now (well, the 20% discount from the watch dealer also helped a little bit :-)... I always liked it but I never went for the older models because I was afraid the movement was too delicate for daily usage. keep up with the nice videos
I prefer the hesalite version of the new 3861. It just looks right. The dial appears darker and more open, and it somehow has a more authentic appearance than the glitzy sapphire version. Also the brushed bracelet is more in keeping with the nature of the Speedmaster Professional.
@@WatchAdvisor I have some Velcro straps which are exact replicas of the ones used by NASA and they look fantastic when paired with a hesalite Speedmaster. I do think that the fully brushed bracelet on the new Speedmaster is a massive improvement on the old one.
I agree, I'm definitely more attracted to the hesalite Speedy. This is my holy grail. Now to pull the plug or not...5k is a lot of money for me. I guess it's a life time piece
Speedmaster is Speedmaster. The True Icon (Moon Landing and the Apollo 13 mission). No other watch have played such important roles in mankind history. I will choose the Speedy 3861 over any Daytona, a great watch, any day of the week.

I've always enjoyed the hesalite version because it scratches so easily and the scratches give the watch character. I try to scratch it as much as possible
I have a few Rolexes and others, but my Speedmaster is my favorite watch. With Rolexes you are getting quality…but for a premium because of that crown 👑. Omega Speedmaster is pure and oozing quality with a history few watches even come close to. It’s still a bargain under $10k. 🤷🏻♂️👌🏻
Such an excellent video. I watched it two or three times and now it autoplays at least every other day when I'm watching other watch videos. Doesn't get old!
@@WatchAdvisorShort answer is no. Long answer is I wanted one but thought I could bide my time with a Moonswatch when I thought I'd ever be able to purchase one and had an Omega Boutique locate a Seamaster Black Black instead. This has afforded me the opportunity to study all the Speedmaster line more in depth and I'm not sure I would have picked the one I now prefer most. Lack of clasp quick micro adjustments is disappointing and shame there is no applied logo on hesalite version. The movement upgrade is nice step. I am curious how the new bracelet is against hairy wrist, is it pulling hair?
Can't answer you this question since I don't have a hairy wrist... But if you look close the bracelet is a "closed" and super flexible construction, so it should not be the case... Once you had the chance to try it, please let us know...
@@WatchAdvisor I personally love the technical improvements from Omega. It is like you said, they updated everything about the movement which needed modernization (METAS certification, co axial escapement, anti magnetic etc) and kept everything which did not need to be changed (still the aluminum bezel, case design etc). I enjoy the small details such as Dot over 90, and the new step dial homage. It is truly an excellent Speedmaster update from Omega. Personally, I am torn between choosing this new 2021 Speedmaster Hesalite version or to go for a birth year 3592.50 in excellent condition. This is my first Speedmaster and will be a daily wear so I am agonizing over the decision. But in the end I am sure I will be happy with either one.

What a review! Thank you for posting. I've always been a Speedy admirer but alas, not a wearer. The watch was always just too bulky & uncomfortable. I started checking out the FOIS thinking it would be better suited but it wasn't. The lugs don't come down far enough so the watch tends to sit on its case back with a noticeable gap between the lugs & wrist. Not cool. I then realised the new 3861 was a serious proposition. Thinner overall, shorter lug length, lower lug profile, flush end-pieces with the much improved & more comfortable bracelet. All these changes add up to what must be the most wearable Speedy to date. That's leaving aside the myriad of detail changes & improvements...all of which knock it out of the park imo. And at last, a reliably accurate movement with proper hacking! From where I sit, the new Speedy 3861 is a bargain. You can bemoan the price, but all the good swiss watches have rocketed in price & value in the last few years...it was inevitable this would also happen to the Speedmaster. Omega have really done a fantastic job here. They obviously really thought it through and I'm certain time will prove them right. I predict there will be many 1st time owners like me buying this watch, then those who already own a Speedy, now have have a perfect upgrade available whenever they choose...their only criticism seems to be price (& lack of accessories). So...I ordered the new 3861 heselite in all steel. It arrived this morning & is quite superb. The fit is perfect, is one of the most comfortable watches I own and the looks are simply stunning! I grew up in the 60's & the heselite version looks just how I remember them...more so than the 1861. I also love the all-brushed bracelet finish and maybe the only guy who prefers the printed logo :) Criticisms? Only one so far. The sharp Case nonsense is just that...nonsense. But I've found the inside of the clasp is too sharp & does lightly scrape the skin when sliding the watch up the wrist. Btw, no discount but 48 months interest free credit (with a free Wolf Cub winder thrown in)...4 years of free money is a real sweetner.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and passion with us! Bravo! Congratulations! The Hesalite version in fact is the one to have... All my Speedmaster Professional Moonwatches feature a Hesalite ... Wonderful review Alexander! Thank you for this masterpiece. And I must say I really like the new iteration of the Speedy. It is and will always be a legendary watch. IMHO it is a bit pricey, while the other chronograph from the "other" brand is just totally overhyped (not to mention overpriced) But customers seem to be willing to pay such prices (and way more). Yes, I think there are other chronographs more affordable with similar specs or functions. For example, the now discontinued Fortis Official Cosmonaut Chronograph especially the Titanium version. Yes, it's bulkier and not as classy as the Speedy but it packs a punch. It uses a reliable 7750 that can be serviced by most watchmakers. It features a day-date function and a diver style bezel. Both functions to me personally are way more useful than a tachymeter and the accuracy of a Metas certification. What I really like about the Speedy Pro: One can still see that same watch in it, that was used for the Apollo missions. There are not many watches today that stay so true to their original. Good thing that the did stick to an aluminium bezel. I think it would be really cool if Omega would offer a "Hesalite Sandwich" again. What do you think about that? And what do you think about the old "Hesalite Sandwich"?
Thanks for sharing and your feedback! Interesting read! I don’t agree with you concerning the priorities... METAS certification is much more important IMHO! The latter defines another league of mechanical wristwatches ... concerning the sandwich I always bought and I will always buy hesalite with closed case back... that’s for me the definition of the Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch...
Thank you! Due to the basic construction of the Calibre 861, 1861 and its Master Chronometer certified successor 3861 it was not possible to offer more power reserve. The 3861 is not a new calibre, but a Master Chronometer version of its predecessors ...
Thank You, it is the Best and Most Complete review I saw on the new born Omega SpeedMaster Professional Moonwatch. @@WatchAdvisor I do have one question as my new 3861 Saphire is only three weeks old and I am going to the Caribbean for holiday shortly... leaving it on my wrist for quick dips in the pool an issue? Thanks
No, not an issue! But no diving/jumping into the pool and so on ...
In my novice endeavour to learn about the art of mechanical watches, I somehow find your presentation genuinely intended to teach and advise. I have learned a lot. Thank you.
I am very, very happy to read this, thanks for sharing our passion! Always let me know if you have any questions...
Alexander, it is such a pleasure listening to you. I saw this video probably 10 times. I am amazed by your passion, knowledge. You are an honest humble guy. Definitely my favorite watch channel! Go go go Alex!

This is the best speedmaster as of now IMO.
It is! No doubt! Reloaded!
@@WatchAdvisor is the speedmaster with the 1861 movement now discontinued then?
@@jasonwilson7674 yes the 1861 is now discontinued
@@KLucero22 Thanks, I bet the value of them will no doubt increase on the second hand market especially as the updated models are considerably more expensive
@@jasonwilson7674 I agree, that is likely to happen. My guess is we will probably see the prices rise for the 1861 speedy but not exceed the cost of these new 3861

I chose the SS because of the durability and the open case back. I love to look at the movement. I am very pleased. It set me back USD 8,000 and is a tremendous value. Oh, yeah did I say it is beautiful. A classy, humble beautiful.

Thank you very, very much, I am happy to read this! Let me know If you have questions... Any thoughts about the Speedy?

Bad thing about ceramic is it doesn’t really Patina much if at all
I have seen every video on RUclips about this watch. Have mine on its way in the mail. You have gone over every facet of these pieces in high detail and for that I salute you, bravo! Best video on the Moonwatch; I rate 10/10.

I am happy to read this! thank you! WatchAdvisor = Watch Television in 4K! Which one is you favorite? Let me know if you have questions?
I have to say your review was fantastic 👏. The level of detail and information was superb. I never considered that most chronograph dials are not reflecting the movement of the particular watch caliber and are inaccurate! This comes as a shock as most people assume patek philippe and audemars piguet are high end and high cost watches. Liked and subscribed!
They are! Most kept the dial design with four dots dating back of the area of 18.000 A/h chronographs... 21.600, 28.800 followed and the graduation did not change... the four dots would only work for 36.000 A/h, but readability is poor... Watch the video that will go online Friday, 00:00 CET ... in less than two hours... you will like what you see
Thank you so much for such an in depth review. I was teetering on the fence on which model to get. I am now convinced that I too love the salute to the original and will save toward my first Omega with the hesalite.

I own the sapphire sandwich for half a year now. Love it to death! It’s just so beautiful and special. Except the one flaw: micro adjustments. It’s really bothersome in daily usage. I don’t understand why they skipped this…
When the new Speedmaster was launched the clasp was not ready… there were some issues Omega couldn’t fix in time… that’s why…

I got mine less than a week ago (Sapphire version) and it is a total beauty... METAS certification and all the testing to the new movement is the reason that convinced me to get the Speedmaster now (well, the 20% discount from the watch dealer also helped a little bit :-)... I prefer the hesalite version of the new 3861. It just looks right. The dial appears darker and more open, and it somehow has a more authentic appearance than the glitzy sapphire version. Also the brushed bracelet is more in keeping with the nature of the Speedmaster Professional.
Thanks for sharing! I couldn't agree more...I would even go a step further and wear the Speedy with a Nato/Velcro strap... What do you think?
@@WatchAdvisor I have some Velcro straps which are exact replicas of the ones used by NASA and they look fantastic when paired with a hesalite Speedmaster. I do think that the fully brushed bracelet on the new Speedmaster is a massive improvement on the old one.

My pleasure! Love your comment! Which one is you favorite? What are your thoughts about the technical improvements?
@@WatchAdvisor I personally love the technical improvements from Omega. It is like you said, they updated everything about the movement which needed modernization (METAS certification, co axial escapement, anti magnetic etc) and kept everything which did not need to be changed (still the aluminum bezel, case design etc). I enjoy the small details such as Dot over 90, and the new step dial homage. It is truly an excellent Speedmaster update from Omega. Personally, I am torn between choosing this new 2021 Speedmaster Hesalite version or to go for a birth year 3592.50 in excellent condition. Best review ever on a watch
Love your comment! Thanks for the wonderful feedback and for sharing your passion with us!
The changes to the 1861 Speedmaster are huge, since the 3861 now is a Master Chronometer ... May your Speedmaster always show you HAPPY seconds, minutes and hours ...
Very good point re lack of on the go micro-adjustment on the bracelet. I think given the new price point, they should have made this possible.
I agree! At least offered it optional... I am sure this will follow very soon, since we will not be the only ones to criticize this...
@@WatchAdvisor If Omega would just listen to their clients they could produce an unparalleled timepiece from inception. This being an example, no micro adjustment is unacceptable at this price point. Same issue with the Aqua Terra. Another fantastic watch with a bracelet lacking on the fly adjustment. Maybe one day Omega will listen. Thanks, your reviews are terrific.

To my mind, the clear case back looks like a spacecraft window, which is pretty cool for a watch with such a strong connection to space.
Thanks for sharing! True and I fully understand! Tastes are different though... I would want the hesalite version with the closed case-back...
Love the hacking seconds new function! The antimagnetic properties are appreciated as we handle more and more gadgets that magnetize watches. the chronometer certification is a big plus because in my experience ( I own 5 speedmasters) none of them have been very accurate.
Mine share the same problem 🙈 Accuracy never was the strength of the 861 and 1861! To learn more about the Master Chronometer certification download the PDF here... www.metas.ch/metas/en/home/dok/rechtliches/Zertifizierung_Uhren.html
Wonderful review Alexander! Thank you for this masterpiece.
And I must say I really like the new iteration of the Speedy. It is and will always be a legendary watch.
IMHO it is a bit pricey, while the other chronograph from the "other" brand is just totally overhyped (not to mention overpriced)
But customers seem to be willing to pay such prices (and way more).
A 70Hr+ power reserve would have made it almost perfect.
Great review, I love the measurements you always provide. Very informative!
Thank you! Due to the basic construction of the Calibre 861, 1861 and its Master Chronometer certified successor 3861 it was not possible to offer more power reserve. The 3861 is not a new calibre, but a Master Chronometer version of its predecessors ...
Not possible if you you want to stay authentic! This case is 1:1 the ST105.012 ...
Fantastic video!
Thank you, love your comment!
Great updates to a classic watch! Thanks Sir Alex. I choose the sapphire version.
Good choice of course! I'd go for hesalite with Nato/Velcro strap...
@@WatchAdvisor why do you choose the Hesalite? Historic significance?
I like the puristic side of hesalite... and I would even wear the Speedy with a Nato/Velcro strap... Moonwatch pure feeling! 😉
@@WatchAdvisor You cant go wrong with that...
Thank You, it is the Best and Most Complete review I saw on the new born Omega SpeedMaster Professional Moonwatch.
Love Your explanation of the seconds divided in 4 for the Cal. 321 that is 18000 beats per hour 1/5 of a second (3.600 : 18.000 = 0,2) and the new born with 6 marks that are 'True" to the 21.600 beats per hour, Omega did a Awesome Great Job as You did in Your Review, Thank You
Thanks for sharing our passion! What a wonderful comment, thanks for sharing! … I am so happy to read this!
@@WatchAdvisor Yes, that was very illuminating and not something I've heard in any other discussion of the watch. That point makes it more desirable, IMHO.
@@LiveLifeLarge851 I am happy to read this! Thanks for sharing our passion!
Daytona not even worth half as much as the speedmaster.
The market disagrees though
Excellent and very informative! I discovered many details about my new Saphire 3861 that I didn't even realize we there. I went with Saphire as I wear my watches as "daily drivers" and am not exactly very gentle with my watches. But believe me, I went back and forth for days between the two versions. ALSO, they are recently coming out with a bracelet that has a very minor on-the-fly micro adjustment. It is only about 1 link's worth. I was fortunate enough to get one. The AD salesperson and I didn't even know that they existed. Thanks again!
You are very welcome! I am happy to read this… May your Speedmaster continue to always show you happy seconds, minutes and hours…
