    Had my 3861 just over 1 week on the sailcloth and leather deployment strap. Agree with everything you’ve said for me the biggest improvement is the reintroduction of the ‘step dial’ it adds so much more than the older 1861 model which I owned previously. Like you no sharp edges or poorly machined just quality made . Great Vid 👌🤩

      @@vitaboost I don’t like the new dark dial with those steps and everything. I don’t want a modern movement in such a classic that has actually never been to space (and may never). I don’t like the new wristband for this watch (even though it’s essentially the same as the one that I have on my Speedmaster automatic). I don’t like the changes to the inscription; sounds like something written by the legal team since this new watch is likely not nasa certified and we have no information if it ever passed any of the tests. 861 and 1861 we know has been or is used in space at least.

    A real life review by a real owner! I own the same watch in the sapphire version and I couldn’t agree more on everything he pointed out about this watch, especially on the edge sharpness.
    Just a few more things.
    - The watch feels lighter than it looks thanks to the new tapered bracelet.
    - It has only one more micro adjustment, compared to typical two, but the links are relatively smaller than other watches’ so the fitting hasn’t been a problem for me.
    - The winding experience is a lot better than I expected. I rarely hear people complaining about the crown on my Navitimer. Good thing it’s an automatic piece or I would’ve lost my fingerprints over the years LOL.

Beautiful case, crown, bezel, dot of 90, dial, creamy amazing markers. I’m so lucky to have been bestowed as a steward of this timepiece. Truly amazing. I love the horse on the back with no Omega Flight Qualified print - just - Speedmaster, and original bracelet too. This is Hodinikee grade; It is a piece of art no doubt.

    Obviously theirs more polished reviews but this is one of the best ones of this watch. It’s a vintage watch with modern build quality and a beautiful one at that. The clasp and bracelet look really elegant and comfortable. I think I’m getting one. I’m glad someone has put the stupid sharp edges thing to bed. Funny how the guy who started it got the Rolex your watch is in call straight after 🤔 it’s almost like he planned it. Remember a Rolex might be a good investment if you get the right one at retail but good luck with that 🤦🏻‍♂️ on the whole watches are a bad investment unless you love watches and enjoy wearing them. I would think that the previous 1861 rated for 50m water resistance will be at least pressure tested... I cannot imagine Omega would give a rating without at least pressure testing it. As for warranty, my understanding is that it will not cover water damage... they can blame it on operation of pushers when in contact with water or wear and tear of seals... I wind my 1861 almost everyday, I would imagine the crown stem rubbing against the gasket will accelerate the wear on it. Lets say even if I pressure test it every year and on the 4th year the test still came out fine but that doesn't mean it will not give way before the 5th year right? After all its a 4yr old rubber with constant abrasion with the crown stem.

If a 5000 euro Omega cannot handle a ittle water it is not worth the name Omega. But do not dive with a speedy. I had contact with an Omega spokesman and he guarateed that swimming and showering waas just fine, the only thing you have to do is service the watch in about 5 year. Omega would never spoil their reputation with a leak watch. So service once and a while and enjoy the watch on land and in water.

    I am doing some serious tyre-kicking of watches at the moment. I have whittled it down to an Rolex Oyster Perpetual or the new Omega Speedmaster ‘Moonwatch’.
    I have watched about a dozen online reviews of the Omega. There’s a really, really detailed review by an Austrian dude who really knows his watches. The rest of the reviews - no disrespect intended - are weak.
    I shuddered when I see ‘reviews’ consisting largely of ego-stroking face-to-face time with Big Shots from Omega HQ. You gotta have concerns about the objectivity of such reviews. Another concern I would have is about whether or not these ‘reviewers’ are actually buying the Omegas with their own cash?
    I accidentally stumbled across this review and - to my shame - I was just about to change channel (I was puzzled by the video being shot in an alpine pasture), until I heard that the reviewer had actually bought the Omega in his hand. Respect!
    Very honest and personal review. Upon finishing the review, I subscribed to the channel. Similar to your advice on having one example of both the Hesalite and the Sapphire Omegas, I know that I will only be content when I have bought both the Rolex and the Omega.

    The reason you shouldn't shower with you watch (personal preference but also recommended not to do so) is so the expansion and contraction of the gaskets due to heat and cooling of temperature can compromise the overall seal and potentially let in moisture. When watches are tested for water resistance it is rare that includes any sort of temperature gauging and as such that isn't something necessarily accounted for in the WR rating.
    I say this humbly as someone who had his luminox navy seal "dive" watch fill with steam in the shower some years back. xD

    Went to the watch boutique and compared the 1861 vs the new 3861. I walked out with the 1861. To me the bracelet for the 3861 is way to flimsy and delicate. IMHO it leans towards a woman's bracelet...style wise. Also I prefer the case and dial on the 1861. So it comes down to movements. Sure the 3861 movement is an upgrade but the 1861 is basically a 861 movement and both have been to space and are solid. So I decided to save $2k and buy the 1861. Just my 2 cents.... Cheers!

    Two small things I don’t like about the 3861 speedy is the big omega font they used and second the chronograph pushers are shorter than the 1861. Other than that it’s perfect.

    Mate, great video! I have just got a 1861 - I guess it is one of the last of the old model. Sapphire sandwich, gorgeous box as you know - has WL. Date 09/20. Do you think that will go up in value?? I’m thinking to keep it boxed and maybe get the 3861 to wear!?!?! Or I could just wear the 1861?? Have big wrists so not worried about the bracelet... what are your thoughts????

    Great in depth video James. Love these outdoor style reviews. I was worried the bracelet would be too jingly jangly and would take away from the wearing experience, but I do believe Omega has done very well. I was also worried about the size of the clasp, but I think you hit the nail on the head when you said Omega is aiming to create a vintage styling with high quality modern build with the new speedy. My only critique would be the lack of on the fly adjustment, but that's just my personal opinion.
    Much better than some 21 year old with no Rolex sitting in a chair talking watches... oh wait 😳

    I bought the Ed White Cal 321.... it's the only Omega I own, and the one of the only ones I'd want to. If I wanted the best movement.. I'd get a Lange or even a Daytona .. The whole reason to own a Speedmaster is the history and that beautiful Lemania designed movement... and the vintage case and bracelet is also much nicer in the new modern manufacturing style.

    • @Mega-zi7ys
      @Mega-zi7ys 2 года назад +1

      Pls don't put Lange and Daytona in the same sentence when talking about best movement.
      They're in very different leagues.ALS movements are haute horologie... Rolex are mass produced by machines. Where Rolex wins over ALS is publicity marketing.

    Has anyone else ever thought that the dial on the Speedmaster is difficult to read? I have a fairly new speedmaster and I've hardly worn it over the last 5 years. I think that's because it's a chore to read and it's frustrating. Lack of contrast in hand thickness to dial markings, a busy dial, and tachymeter that serves no purpose but just adds to the confusion. I've developed the opinion that I don't really think this is an awesome watch anymore, it's useless to me almost, and people just own it because they think they need to?

    This new 2021 c3861 Speedmaster Professional released on 5th Jan 2021 has a long waiting list as at 28 Feb 2021 in Singapore. Having owned a Sapphire since Jan 2021, this piece is definitely the best modern moonwatch that is worth every dollar even with the price increase. Some grey market dealers are asking slightly more than 10% above retail. Did you mention longer service interval on this new movement?

    • @watchnerds
      @watchnerds 3 года назад

      Yeah... Metas certified watches have longer service interval as its coaxial escapement has no need much lubrication, it only act as a bumper, but not for lessening the friction unlike the most of swiss lever escapement that widely used in modern watch.

    I am looking at getting an Omega Speedmaster Professional and was leaning towards the sapphire model. My friend said I would regret not getting the hesalite model in the future if I get more interested in collecting and he claimed the hesalite was the better watch. Im not sure if that's just him being bias because he is a collector and might be loyal to the watches history but as someone who likes to see the movement and is going to wear the watch a lot I feel like the sapphire model would be better for everyday wear and tear. Could anyone clarify is one model better than the other and also is my friend just being bias towards the hesalite model due to its historical accuracy. Thanks in advance

    • @Bartseli
      @Bartseli 3 года назад +1

      I've been going back and forth between the hesalite and sapphire version, but ended up buying the sapphire. I was sold by the look of the hesalite - and was at some point contemplating on exchanging the sapphire for the hesalite after my purchase - but the sapphire really grew on me (also aesthetically). I looked at 100 videos on how to polish hesalite glass to convince myself I could live with the idea of having such an expensive watch that is relatively easy to watch. However, now owning the watch for 1 month, I would go crazy if I would scratch it already..it just wouldn't work for me, I would rather have some piece of mind as I wear it everyday. Furthermore, the display case is beautiful and the polished bracelet gives it a bit more definition in my opinion..But the choice is hard..If there was a domed sapphire version, it would make the life of many consumers a bit easier ;-)

    Yes I noticed the dial color in direct sunlight. The 1861 is more of a matte dark grey. The 3861 is a flat black dial. It's difficult to see the step dial at first. There really isn't much of a big difference between the 1861 vs 3861. Still both winners IMO. I am going to buy the 3861 brushed bracelet for my 1861. I love the matte grey tone in sunlight. It makes it stand out. The only con on the 1861, no hacking & no COSC. Other than that OMEGA did right by this new 3861. This is very encouraging and gives us fans some assurance these 3861 are the next option for Speedy owners, and these 3861 are here to stay for a long time. Great review James bravo sir. I am looking for an Explorer 39mm. If I can get one I want to bring my collection back down to 2 pieces Speedy & Explorer. Then focus on a Panerai 372, JLC Reverso duo face medium & in some years from now. My grail a JLC Ultra thin perpetual Dr. Strange or a Reserve De Marche for the time being....
