Hey Julia here. I’d love to show you more RUclips set-ups so what do you want to see next? Something more cinematic? Outdoor set-ups? Kitchen? Let me know!
good job on the video, really informative, what I would love to see is how to setup a mic and make the sound as clear as possible, maybe even link yours in the description? Thanks alot
Great tips! Can you show have to set up the light and sound for filming an iPad from above. For faceless where the content on the iPad is the essence. (Drawing tutorials).
Outdoor setups, please! I have a half acre market garden that I film videos in to show people how to grow their own food, and I would love to see you show us some set ups for outdoor scenarios. Thank you!!
This video is probably the best video regarding setups for filming on your iPhone that I’ve ever seen. I have just gotten to 1000 subscribers on my channel only using my iPhone, so this is super-relevant. Thank you!
Honestly, the best lighting video I’ve seen on RUclips. The small incremental changes being explained helps you understand things so much better. Thank you 🙏
Simple and short yet effective for new creators 🎉🎉 Would love to see outdoor filming requirements same like this video simple and easy for us to work on that. Best wishes from India 🇮🇳 subscriber 😊
Excellent video! You are an excellent teacher. I so appreciate you NOT talking exclusively in "shop top" (you know, filled with acronyms that only insiders understand), but used real words! This RUclipsr thanks you!
This was super helpful and very interesting to see the overall transformation. I’d love to see more examples of this in different rooms - like a kitchen table, living room, bedroom, office, etc.
YAY! More Julia! Here's a big vote for seeing an easy to set up/break down kitchen set up. I'll also share that I've bought the soft box light you suggest on the /tools page and that company is awesome. One light arrived with a weird flicker issue, and the company replaced BOTH lights for free, so now I have 3 working lights! 🥳
Books and duct tape for a tripod. Nice! I love the budget focus. I’m still recording on an iPhone 6s but did invest early in some LED studio lights. Good lighting makes a big difference when you’re not ready to go buy a nice camera yet.
This video was absolutely phenomenal. My hats wayyy off! She gives all the details, in order, boom, boom, boom. “Do this, then this, then that. Ok got it!” No long diatribe about an unrelated topic, just pure, easy to digest tips & advice. If you think i won’t be rewatching this 3 times AND watching all the ads well then try and stop me! 😂 Great video!
I do most of my videos in my garage as they are DIY, automotive hobby related. I do use tripods and recently started using a wireless mic, but lighting is always a challenge.
I would love it if you could show how to make a shadowy kitchen look sunny and bright. I do food videos, and I wish I had a white kitchen, but I’m doing my best to learn how to brighten up my kitchen’s wood cabinets in videos.
This was really good! Outdoor content would be great, as well as SMALL kitchens with no island (here in the UK we don't have huge kitchens and islands are rare, getting good angles is so hard!😅). Thanks guys this was a great video 👏🏻
Can you please please help show set up for table /desk shot for DIY craft videos or could be for chopping food on a bench in the kitchen. For Craft videos I have trouble with the different craft Mmats reflecting the light
This is such a helpful video! My biggest struggle right now is with over head filming. When doing a tutorial using my DSLR. Would love some ideas, pointers, inspiration for that!
This was really helpful. Would you be interested in making a background for arts and crafts? For example, not many talk about it, but I’d love a professional opinion. Thanks!
Great video!!! I would like to add a vote for kitchen lighting setups. Actually it would be great to show indoor and outdoor kitchen setups. Great job Julia!!!!
I loved this video SO much! What a brilliant way to show step by step how you can easily improve your setup. I would love to watch more for sure! I'd like to request a gaming setup background ☺️
Very helpful. My personal issue is That I make mainly vfx tutorials in front of my computer. I shoot on a Sony fx3 It's just difficult to find a good angle and set up a presentable background since the camera is always gonna be side ways cause the monitors are in front of me and I can't have a camera blocking my view. Maybe you could make a video on that? Pretty please ☺️
I completely agree that lighting is such a huge deal. I teach art in my videos and it has taken me months to finally achieve the level of lighting that I'm happy with. I appreciate this video, as I'm organizing my studio so I can show myself from time to time. I will certainly look into the RGB light. As far as requests, I don't suppose you would have tips for artists (painting, drawing, sketching, et)?
1:16 to expand on Julia's point of "The eyes should be about here": Learning about the rule of thirds is very useful Also, leave some headroom above your head (like Julia did)
Start with reducing echo any way you can by having soft surroundings and a decent mix if possible. We use lav mics and our favorites are linked in the description. If you’d like more tips beyond that we might make a video or short on it!
@@ChannelMakers yes please - especially lav mics. I find them fine if I don't move my head around but if I have to look around it's as bad as a fixed mic. Am I not using the lav mic properly?
Fantastic video! Even though I currently operate a 'faceless channel', these insights will definitely come in handy when I choose to step into the limelight. Really appreciate you sharing this knowledge, thanks!
Thank you for this! I’d love to see a setup when doing primarily overhead shots - I do all overhead at a desk showing my hands doing things!! That would be so extremely helpful! Thanks Julia!
I would LOVE to see a kitchen set up. I have no natural light in there. A fridge right behind me that reflects my overhead light. But if I turn it off it looks too dark with just my one front light I bought. Not sure placement for a light box but I strategically place mine so it can be seen in another reflection.
This was a really helpful video! Thanks! If you could do a segment on kitchen lighting setups, that would be amazing!! We have multiple panel lights, and it just feels as though everything has to be as bright as possible! 💖😻
This video ROCKS! And this channel is so much more enticing for some reason than it was before. Lucky me! (It went from an all-male vibe to a more balanced vibe.)
So helpful! I have trouble working on my set-up... So thank you Julia! Even just filming in a corner instead of a plain wall! That was a waouh moment for me.
Super useful! I was told not to start my self-development RUclips channel by someone I thought would support me. Did it anyway! To anyone working towards their dreams, don't give up. Keep on going! Hope we all become billionaires one day 💰💰💰
The one thing I've liked about these videos recently is it feels very doable for anyone to setup a couple of things, and just film. Used to, I would find all sorts of excuses not to film/record content due to the stuff I did/didn't have, and that's why I've added a couple things to my space to make it very effortless to make content.
I do cooking skills so I use an area of my kitchen with a nice display cabinet and my husband keeps trying to sneak stuff into my videos by hiding things in the cabinet where the camera can view them through the glass lol He has a life size human skull model he wants to photo bomb my videos 😂
I have my own basic setup that I grew into something I liked but it is nice to see someone else's perspective from basic set up to more advanced setup. But it's true, that people shouldn't let money stand in the way of getting started. You make to with what you got and build up and change over time.
One issue that I found with natural lighting (which is why I try to shoot at night), is the instability of the lighting from outside interferes with the quality of the video you're trying to produce. Since my house was built in the 50's, there is no overhead light in the living room (don't ask me why, that's just how it was built), I just use an old lamp that uses 5 lamp bulbs. It seems to help a lot with lighting. Good tutorial.
Lamps can really do quite a bit! Only thing to watch out for is mixing color temperature light bulbs. If some of them are warmer than others it tends to not look so good in video
I have 2 soft boxes and they take up so much room in my bedroom where my studio is set up. Are there light that are good but take up less space? 2nd question; how important is that back lighted area? It seems dark and weird to me for my educational talking head videos.
Super helpful video! Very much appreciate the incremental improvements examples. My videos are done in my shop and the intros have enormous amounts of clutter behind me which cannot be cleaned up. It's part of the shop. Any tips on minimizing that via lighting?

Thank you very much for such a clear speech rhythm and beautiful pronunciation. It helps a lot for those of us who are not native English speakers.
Omg yes to all. Kitchen and food, outdoor, vlog shots with easy portable lighting? This was sooooo helpful and no one is doing these types of videos
Nice I definitely want to see the kitchen setup and some other things I'm interested in doing healthy food videos and prep and so on.
This video was very helpful! Thank you! I would love to see how you would set up for diy/crafting videos.
This is one of the best help videos I’ve ever watched.
Loved seeing the step by step progress. It was like looking back at my own setup changing over my first (almost) 200 videos.
200 videos?! Dang! Thats impressive. Keep it up!
Simple and short yet effective for new creators 🎉🎉

This is super helpful and relatable especially if you have a small space

Thanks for sharing! Love the idea of a kitchen and food prep lighting or staging video
+1 😊🙏
Wow - very helpful video. I would love to see help for top down lighting for crafters, without an expensive set up and a bunch of things in the way.

I would love to see DIY set up. I'm a crafting channel and would love to see some different options. I found this video really helpful! Thanks!
Art. I totally struggle on my @leftbrainedartist RUclips channel to get the light right.
Great video! Very helpful. I'd love to see your approach to overhead filming when it's focused on hands. Gear etc. Thank you

Get paper shades to put over your ceiling lights. I just did this it makes the image look much better.
Nice! Real world suggestions…
Real world was precisely the goal, glad you enjoyed :)
Would be great to see some overhead filming and how to best set that up. This was a great informative video!
Me too!
Thanks for this. Super simple and clear. 👍
