I will say this video has been the best one since Nate's departure. Mainly because this video not only gave good advice on how to keep people engaged, but it felt different but not too different than what we saw during the "Nate" era of this channel.
He's in Nate's office, with the same lighting, and wearing almost the exact same shirt Nate has worn in other videos. It should feel familiar. On top of that the pacing was closing to Nate's rapid fire, moving from point to point, energy, which makes it better. If he added curly hair, "boop the like button" and "Howdy Howdy" it would be too obvious
@@modernlinguists If you were to copy they prior host's "catch phrases" in order to prove the consistency, that would, in most people's minds, be "too obvious" they are trying copy a prior host. Those are not the channel's tag lines, but the host's.
@@andy-in-indy I believed the catch phrase was a channel thing, not belonging to the host. Everyone new it was a channel maker's video with the traditions of howdy howdy and boop the like button. It's not exclusive to one host.
This is great advice. I've noticed that when I swear, people like it more. I'm not saying swear to be crude. But if it fits at the time, it shows my audience that I'm very passionate about something. It doesn't have to be a swear, but some form of enthusiasm / passion.
You fit very well. I felt like you brought some good personality that fits with the channel. I felt like the vocals were kind of low though I don’t k ow if it’s projection or volume but otherwise I enjoyed the video thanks.
All these are good ideas. One that I try to use is B roll, sfx and graphics to "fix" my boring segments because often I don't realize "how bad" my segments are until I'm 50% done editing the video.
F.A.O Channel Makers!! This has been my favourite video since Nate's departure. I found the gentleman presenter (sorry I missed your name) very relatable and engaging. Which in my opinion is what's been missing since Nates departure. There is always transition in changes this big so thought you would appreciate the feedback!
I am so glad you guys put this video out. I do voice overs for my videos and I know I sound like I am reading my script. I am hoping I can get past this and maybe do some freeform speaking. I don't want to be over scripted. I know I have to practice, practice, practice!
I do a variety of videos between uncut raw footage to straight to the point vids. Too many new folks give the videos a few seconds and take off. My current newest video for example has 3 views and a average view duration of 3 seconds. 3 seconds ain't enough to judge a game or not. This happens a lot. Even on videos that are straight to the point.
@@bbreak I've been changing up titles but not gonna do false clickbait of course. Intros for me depend on the type of video I'm doing. Raw gameplay vids are the least exciting ones I do. Others are usually straight to the point. Thumbnails are gonna get touched eventually but not any time soon unfortunately.
I feel like I hit a lot of these marks on what I try to cover. I do a gaming channel and cover mostly Elder Scrolls Online content. I stick with guides and instead of doing them in the same way as other people in my field are doing, I tend to do a more unique approach and we roleplay our characters and do a lot of interesting editing and special effects as you join the main characters on their journey to get the item. Still working on balance but it is so fun to do! 😄🍻
Great video - I use humour to expose the mistakes I made when I paint. Yes, I'm an art teacher. I think not taking things so over seriously ( especially taking myself too seriously .. seriously ) gives the tutorials a chance to breath. Its OK to not be able to paint everything perfectly ... but I still make a decent job of it 😉😉I also include the how to's and fixes I use. In fact my tutorials are the best thing ever. I'm also very humble. 😎😎
Hi Nathan and CM's. I appreciate the content you've got, here. These are good lessons for us as we want to improve. I have an idea for you, if you want to create some further video on it. Could you please do some sequel videos to this one demonstrating different ways to employ these strategies in simple ways that a creator who is doing things without a team can use each of these points? It is helpful to watch examples of these strategies done very professionally, but remember also that you have a team of very professional video editors. Quite a number of us are solo creators. A commentor below mentioned J and L cuts - that's something a solo creator can do. Project 24 teaches us with a program that I don't use (Filmora), and I have to use an older Davinci Resolve. The idea of multi angles is good - I'd be interested in seeing that done in a very simple way (I don't know how to do multi angles - can you show us?) If you like my suggestion, perhaps you could try it out to show us how some creators did these ideas in very simple, easy but effective ways. Keep me posted! (Birdy on Project 24).
"Elephants are his favorite animal" hilarious to put that in there! Also, I see what you did there with the joke part, I like it🙃 also #2 I really liked this video, thank you! Also #3 I think Nathan does an awesome job!
Great video! Fred and I liked this one the best since the channels change. 👍🏼 Fred does a great job editing our videos. I typically take a couple hours of video and he hones it down to 12 minutes. I do most of the recording and I really need to work on talking with audience and putting some pizzazz in to our rather boring niche. Looking forward to your next video. Mary 💞 Fred
Ouch! You've just described my first 5 videos. OK, maybe my first 10 videos. Boooring! LOL. It was only when I was talking to someone about their cooking channel that I realized how important it is to have a story, even on a cooking channel. Then I realized, "Oh, that's what I'm NOT doing." Thanks for the valuable info!
Good video 👍. I'm working on a series of tutorials and figuring out how to include story telling as a natural part of the flow rather than something added on that will annoy the people who just want the details.
I use green screen in almost every video. You can change out backgrounds during the video to add interest too. So simple, and I have so much fun with my green screen. Surprised you didn’t mention it when you talked about changing camera position.
Couch potatoes used to watch TV all day; now they're RUclipsrs ... Sorry, just made that up for you. Don't tell Steve... Really appreciated this video, btw. Excellent points and all well made - some instructional videos are just half baked.. Okay, okay! I'm going! :) Shannon A.
I really appreciate the tips and video. All helpful stuff. I want to say, though, that as a RUclips team of 1, I feel a little disconnected when the steps toward success seem to involve things that require additional people. Though I am monetized, I cannot afford to pay someone to edit my video, another person to do the thumbnail, etc. I do everything on my channel, and there is a limit to what I can reasonably do. Your last video was similar. I appreciated the tips about creating a frictionless set-up, but it’s a little discouraging to then see an entire house outfitted for every kind of RUclips video. I have one small room I can regularly use. Appreciate the tips, however. Thank you.
Thanks for the tips. In your next video, could you offer advice to those of us who are a little more shy and introverted, and don’t generally know how to be funny? I understand and agree that adding humour helps a lot. I love watching videos that contain humour, too, but content creators have different personalities, too, and not all of us are naturally funny. Could you perhaps recommend places where we can find humorous b-rolls? Thanks again!
The browse screen has changed. It shows 50% less thumbnails now and they are bigger. Every 3 sehments there's a huge ad banner. And there's community posts, polls, quizzes, shorts between them.
Unfortunately, all the advice I've seen from you (and other similar channels) is only for content creators who have script in their videos. I don't think they're useful for music channels.
Not all videos on youtube are information videos, maybe do a video about other types of channels once in a while. Also, there is an old Hollywood saying, "you can't polish a turd".
What things do YOU do to make your videos more entertaining and interesting?? Let us know!!
I have found J and L cuts to be a slick technique that are managable as someone who does all of the editing on my channel by myself.
How about a psychological channel with face videos?
To make my video entertaining and interesting, I avoid firing my most valuable employee!

Great tips, Nathan! Thank you! And now I want to go watch that Income School vid too. 🙌🎉
I like how you did funny out-takes in the end. That's a nice way to keep the viewers staying until the last second. Nice subliminal advice there.
Great Thriller reference in the thumbnail, Nathan!
agree, this presenter has a nice vibe and personality, give him a few more
Love this, especially that very last part of not going TOO crazy with it. I think finding that balance between boring and over-the-top is key.
Charming straight to the point and helped motivate me Giving me ideas thks
You're Welcome!
Loved the candid behind the scenes multiple retakes at the end. That is so relatable for me 😂
The real reason why you should aim for 4,000 watch hours isn't just for ad revenue. You should do it because you're building an engaged audience.
