What we talk about at the end of this episode is really what it all comes down to. Anyone can pursue this dream, it just takes a little bit of action and a whole lot of perseverance. Dreams weren't made to just be dreams. Here's an easy read that we both revisit once a year to help keep us on track - amzn.to/2JpCiJi
Abandon Comfort love u guys amazing story
Joseph todd thank you so much for the kind words and support 🙂
OK you guys now get going!😎
Okay I get it, but it's tough to buy into this. I desire this life, but I make about $350-400 per hour when I work, and I work about 1800 hours a year. The government takes about 43% per year. But for every hour I work at my job, that's a whole lot more than what it would cost me to have someone do the labor on a boat, certainly if we figure I am very good at my job, and not very good at boat works. In addition my company funds my 401k, pays my health insurance, I get an education fund 15k a year, plus other benefits that last year pushed me over 700k total. Where do you cross the line? Where can you say, "hey it's better to work and pay for this and that, than to stop working and do this and that myself" ? I am not bragging or boasting, you guys were honest with your numbers, so I am doing the same.
Geezergamers, Well you don't need to do it on the cheap. If you can work part time you should buy a good boat and sail away for 6 months a year if you have that dream. But if you can't give up you lifestyle then keep working. I own 2 business, work very hard , I need to be there every day , I have employees that I feel responsible for and customers to service. I have never made the kind of money you make or AC do , not even close but I'm a hard worker it's what I do. But I'm trying on retiring gracefully before I get over 60. I have saved hard and can afford to fix up my boat when I get time and hope to get some years doing my passion before getting too old. ( I do race sailboats on weekends). I could have ,and probably should have, gone off sailing after college but that was the recession of 79-80 , 20% inflation, 12% unemployment and No savings. And family to payback. I had to grasped at any opportunity that came my way so worked hard.
I cannot recommend what these 2 are doing more. Go for it . Screw saving for some life in the future get out their now. Do what is you passion.
Cheers warren
I love how freakin HONEST you guys are! That is what attracted me to binge watch your youtube videos. You guys are so freaking helpful. Like Alyssa Ramos says "your dreams don't work unless you do". It's become my mantra as of late.
Added it to the quote bible. Love it!
Just started following you. I'm 34 and moving to Florida to sail. It's neat to see common interests among people pursuing their dreams, as I've been reading Mr Money Mustache's blog since the early days and really enjoy Tim Ferris books. See you in the Caribbean!
I’ve been watching you guys, SV DELOS, and your friends sailing SV FREEBIE for awhile now. I think what I enjoy the most about you guys is your openness and more importantly, your transparency with the financial aspect of it all. Please keep on doing what you do. I live vicariously through you guys.
Thanks for explaining what it takes. I'm 50 and in the last two months have decided I want to get a sailboat and travel, thanks to your videos and others like you.
Alan Jones awesome. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if we can help in any way. Dream big, go small, start now!
Alan Jones Allan, I am 60 and I have decided to buy a boat and sail for a few years. Have been they a lot in my life Especially the last 10 years, a lot of hell. Two years is my goal to be in the water. During that time I have a full time job, self employed , and will be setting up a RUclips channel and trying to find a way to generate an income from it so I can travel.
Where are you living and where do you plan to sail?
I'm 28. Next week i'm doing my first sail on my own boat! (On a nurse paycheck) Chasing the dream :) great helpful video's!
I own a construction company, just bought a 37ft ketch. Chasing the dream :)
It's always nice to get a honest, nice overview of the behind-the-scenes of cruising life. I'm too old and not in a place where I can decide my own fate anymore, but I find it heartwarming to see that there are young and old folks out there who are pursuing their dreams, and who are doing so responsibly. Doing the math, getting it all sorted, and going for it.
You go guys!
Came for the dream, stayed for Roo. You both rock and inspire me. I'm a land lover that works as an electrician (Horrible pay in Florida for blue collar workers, $18 hr) and wants to build a travel trailer out of a cargo trailer. Stuck on the size (02 F250 diesel/7'x14' or F150 4.9/6'x10') and doing it alone. Decisions, decisions, but keep living the dream, y'all, I'm rooting' for you both.
I pull a 7'x16' double axle with an F-150 4x4 with no trouble! Oh and I had the factory add 6" of height to the trailer so it is 7' on the interior. Bought it new in Somerset, Ky at Gatormade back in 2006 for $3700!
Kap - I think you'll know our advice :) F150 and smaller box. Where in FL are you located? We'd love to maybe offer some time to help. Your dream is totally viable and something we've always wanted to do as well so it'd be great to see it all come together. Let us know!!
Abandon Comfort I'm in St. Petersburg, Fl. Actually, Pinellas Park, Park Blvd and 52 Street. Lol. I'm a small, bare bones, organic, yada, yada, yada, kind of guy.
Hotrod Hog Thanks for the advice, HotrodHog, but I kind of agree with AC so I can go off road (maneuverability), stealth boondocking and I love the .300 I6 engine. Just gotta find one in 4x4 with decent miles.
Kap E right on! Well please keep us posted on when the build starts and everything. Hopefully timing will be on our side and we can swing by to lend a hand or share a beer while you tell us about the dream!
Little update, American Health insurance is not accepted in the Bahamas, so if you are planning to visit I would purchase a plan from US Global insurance which provides coverage in the Bahamas, U.S. tourist holidaying in the Bahamas can buy travel insurance which while insuring their vacation includes a health care component.
Your candor hoists your channel to the top of my viewing selections! Congrats on your sense of security that enables your sharing your finances with us.
I have been a sub of yours since the beginning. It's amazing to watch your dreams coming to fruition. I must say that I had that dream once, but sometimes life has a way of stealing it from you. Life, a wife and just having our second child has a way of changing your goals in life( sometimes without even asking you. LOL)
I live my dreams through your channel and I think you are the best sailing vlog on RUclips. Keep of the great work.
Great vid and message. Cant wait to see you guys out cruising and living your dream you've both worked so hard for. Fair winds.
Every episode is awesome, but episodes like this are the reason I subscribed, love what you guys do!
Just gotta say, you guys rock!
Thank you for the most candid vids on the internet that I've ever subscribed to.
Smooth seas and following winds...
We bought a Mottle 33 centre cocpit pocket cruiser and I followed my own advice.... evertything you want is on the other side of certainty and comfort. Were doing this ! its official. Thank you guys for the inspiration and openness,
Great video and thank you for the honesty!
Your transparency is admirable. Something few creators are doing.
As we near giving notice at our jobs and renting our home out to live a life of adventure (In a 4x4 for now, not a sailboat, yet) episodes like this are pivotal in remembering that this can work and it's all worth it. Thank you for the inspiration!
And we will!! Course I'm 63 and planning our dream!!thanks for inspiring us
I can not thank you enough for how transparent you are with your personal information. I know that full transparency of such personal information can be uncomfortable, however it is invaluable to a person like me trying to work towards the goal of cruising the world. I never comment on videos but I thought that your sacrifice of transparency deserves recognition. So thank you for the true information.
I work 80 hours a week and invest almost all of it. Watching you guys keeps me excited and dedicated. Thx.
I love your honesty and transparency. I have begun my true journey of saving now at age 39. Saving 30% a year of 200k income. Of course me and my wife's dream is a cattle ranch in Montana. Still a costly adventure which is probably just as close to owning and sailing a blue water boat. I admire you both being able and capable of filming and sharing your dreams with us. Keep up the great work and I look forward to watching more of your adventure.
shiznit93274 thanks for sharing your dreams! We love hearing about what everyone’s thinking for their own great adventure. Where in Montana are you guys looking? We both fell in love with West Glacier area. Really think we may end up buying land out there for our tiny house one day.
Looking at the Kalispell area. I really love the valley there. And there are so many parks surrounding it. A lifetime of adventures surely awaits me there.
Excellent fiscal explanations... very helpful, and realistic. It also helps that you are both very personable and frank with your comments.
I appreciate the candid financial information. It was very informative. I have to tell you though that boats are a black hole. You will never have enough money. The boat will always have extra expenses you didn't count on. Some grubby harbormaster in a foreign port is going to extort some fee from you, you didn't count on. Just spend money on a proper marine school, learn how to pilot a ship, and get out there! I feel that people are doing it all backwards. Buy the boat and THEN learn to sail? What is up with that? The number one rule of sailing is that the water goes on the outside of the boat. If you have a water tight blue water cruiser, charts, a sextant, and a knowledge of stars, you can add your sailing ability and go anywhere in the world. Equipment is nice and wonderful for safety but it is no substitute for a good sailor who can read the wind and currents. Get a sailor on board at the least to teach you and just go!
Charles Thomas - 43 years ago I bought a boat and set out to sail the world. No experience, only a sailing book I bought a 3 days before I left. Today I can write my own book and never had a teacher. Always buy the boat then teach yourself. Cheers!
Artemis Barlos I can see that indeed there are different drums for different drummers. Thank you for your reply.
The most important part of all this, is that, because you did the boat yourselves, you know the boat inside out. If you had paid someone to do the work you wouldnt have had half the confidence in the boat that you have. Good vid.
Another thing to consider is everything you do and don’t pay someone else, will save you both money and headaches in the future. Having worked in construction, I believe you should know how to work on everything in ones world and then decide if you fix the problem or hire someone else. Knowledge will also help you know when the job is being done correctly. Invaluable.. thanks for putting this video together
It is great that you share openly the financial aspects of your venture, but myself look forward to the actual adventures you three will share... see you next time !
Love the numbers episodes!
One thing that can't be valued is the knowledge you gained by doing all this on your own. If you would have kept working and payed someone to do all the work you wouldn't know all the ins and outs of your boat. Now if something breaks you have a better idea on how to fix the problems that hopefully will not happen.
Thank you, I really appreciate the opportunity to see you kids chase your dreams!
John Vigor has published a couple books about inexpensive cruising boats.
What I have found in researching boats before buying mine, then refitting my boat the last 2 years is most boats will take you anywhere, and most opinions about boats are given by people that don’t know what they’re talking about. Perhaps the most important item is the capability of the person/crew. Funny how people rarely discuss that.
S/V Della Jean isn’t that the truth. The boats aren’t typically the ones who give up or turn around, it’s the fortitude-lacking crew 🙂
I am 52, married, have a 18 yr old in her freshman year of college and a 16 yr old son that is a sophomore in high school. Really wish the internet and RUclips was a thing when I was in my 20's. Keep on living the dream, I a willing to bet I am not the only one living vicariously through you and your videos!
Well now you have really won my heart. Mentioning a Cape Dory. But you don't need to go as small as the "25". Over the past few years the price of these boats has come down quite a bit. I have owned a 30' and now a 36'. And while a Rassy would be my ultimate boat, the CD is extremely capable and I could be a one man spokes person for these boats. Cheers and all the best to you, John
Am I the only one that 60k+ a year is higher than an "average salary"? Plus, household, 120+ is SURLEY not. I think it is worth mentioning that you were both fortunate/able to get good paying (on the surface) jobs and accrue the wealth you did in the short amount of time you did. I do love, though, that you are being as transparent as you can.
Me and my wife make good money, but we have high student loan debts also. Along with mortage, vehicles, childcare, etc...it's difficult to save much on our own. It can be done through a tight budget. Just a little difficult
Personality and who you know with looking for jobs off the beaten path can be your best option for big pay. The abandon crew did move from NY to Miami. Both expensive towns so pay is higher than you average small midwest town.
Yes the avarage amarican wage is 35 to 40k
Depending on where you live, I think $60K is a pretty average white collar salary. It's probably on the low side for NYC or the Bay area, but it's decent for any other major metropolitan area in the U.S.
devildogae sorry to hear about that I was lucky enough to get a decent job making about 50k a year right out of high school. I’m so glad I decided not to go to college undecided and wasting all that money
Awesome job on your boat, transparency on your costs, and your goals for a minimalist future full of happiness. Also appreciate the mention of the Mr. Money Mustache website. All the success!
Thanks for being so honest guys, best of luck with all your travels. Its about time you get to go sailing after all your hard work.
You youngsters! Living the dream and looking like the cast from Twilight - You guys rock! May the winds of destiny always be in your favour.
Can't get much more candid than this. I certainly appreciate it - my goal is to slip lines in time for my 45th, thanks to you two. Thanks again!
Awesome. Thank you for the strait scoop. I just got to meet Liz Clark this week, and she gave the same advice. Follow your dream, stay focused on what you really want.. I look forward to seeing you out there.
ps my pocket cruiser for your list is a Trintilla 1a 1967.
I've been following you two since the beginning and am looking forward to leaving the asphalt and concrete behind. My wife, our bloodhound and myself have been looking at boats for a bit and after being in an 18-wheeler for 5yrs we are definitely used to small spaces. We agree with your comment on how big is the dream vs. how big of a boat. While we aren't going to go for a 50-55 we are looking at 40-44, just because of the extra space we will need. Looking forward to more episodes and who knows, maybe you'll make it up to my home state and hike Denali, though I suggest going twice, once in the summer, and once in the winter. Alaska is a different place both seasons!
It is wonderful to see two young adults with a dream, and a plan to do it. Also two young adults not afraid to work. You have done very well. Thanks
I think that you need to consider how valuable the learning experience for doing your own work is in $. Plus, you can consider yourselves "teachers" (relatively unpaid, but valuable). You are doing well. I'd make sure you have a bit more in you kitty before you head out, though. Islands are expensive! Cheers!
I understand about the time needed to create a youtube video. The few videos I have done take about about two hours per minute of production. That includes acquiring the footage, reviewing the footage, story boarding, editing, reviewing, more editing, more reviewing, rendering, and finally uploading. I am sure I as you do more, you get quicker, but it still takes time.
Coming from an old timer, you young guys are are doing a fantastic job, there’s always unexpected extra costs involved in sailing, whether it be maintenance, refitting and off course mooring fees and keeping the boat on the hard. You two have sensible heads on your shoulders and a lot of good friends to help with costs. Another thing is thanks for your honesty and fantastic work so far. 🏴⛵️
Great video guys. Can't wait to see you guys out there sailing.
Exactly, a rich person is not the one who has the most but the one who needs the least.
I love you guys and I look forward to when I can get out there on the water myself. Thanks for all the great videos and keep up the awesome work you guys do.
Another great episode. There were some great ideas to jot down for later, inspiring and informative!
Good episode. Your honesty in showing your numbers demonstrates transparency and will inspire others. Hope you buy Roo a bone or two with your earnings.
I admittedly follow quite a few sailing groups, but rarely comment. I always appreciate the cost review episodes of yours as so few even touch on the subject. Good work! Look forward to your sailing experiences as they come!
MMM started me on FI, and i chose the boat life to support that. glad to see you are fans too!
Thank you for being so transparent, this video really helps anyone looking to getting into long distance sailing and possibly starting a RUclips channel, that was my dream, I retired two years ago at age 51, me and my girlfriend liquidated two houses and 3 rental properties, plus sold everything we didn't need gave away a lot of stuff, we purchased a Lagoon 440 Cat at a very good price, it needed some work, so we spent the last two years in Big Pine Key, Florida prepping the boat for the big day when we untie the lines and sail to the bahamas, well in a matter of a few days are dream was destroyed, the boat was a complete loss due to the hurricane, thank god we had insurance, with in two weeks after getting are insurance money we started shopping for another boat, we ended up buying a Privilege 615 Cat, this boat is in mint condition, financially it set us back a little, but we were ready to sail, didn't want to stay in a marina and do hard labor again, so buying a boat that is ready to sail was are best option, we have been in the Bahamas for about 6 weeks, are monthly expenses average about $1500, my monthly pension is about $7800 and Julie is a songwriter from Nashville, she gets a check each month from ASCAP royalties, she has cowrote 9 #1 hits and a slew of others that has charted very well, we have a decent savings, as long as we don't have any major break downs or health issues, we should be okay, we have health insurance, but being in a foreign country not sure if they except American health insurance.
Thank you so much for all that y’all do for the viewers. We really appreciate it! You guys are so inspiring
all you say is so true. I'm on SS and only make 11,000.00 per year, I bought a 30' Oday for 2,500.00 and budget only 200.00 a month on boat improvements .
doing the work myself and only buying things on sale, have let me have my boat ready (after two year's) for southern crusing this fall!!! Like you said, it's not how much you make, it's how you use it.
I know what you mean as I was hoping to finish my refurb last year, before my 1973 Kings Cruiser 29 went back into the water. Sadly not everything got done, this year I had more projects to do and still not finished them either. Patchamie goes back in the water a week Saturday, I'm hopeing I can pull her out in the summer to finally finishing my projects. Love you guys your both great 😀😀😀
You guys are such an inspiration! I love watching these kinds of episode because it breaks it down and really show how you made it happen and how we can make it happen. Thank you so much for all your work and producing these videos! Someday I hope to be out on the water with y'all!
You guys are awesome and have been a huge help to me moving forward towards my boat with a 9 to 5 job. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for sharing your numbers. You guys always give me food for thought. Getting a survey on a 37 endeavor this week. Its about time to for me to "pull the trigger".
I love that you are so up front about costs. Until you showed the spread sheet, I thought you had spent nearly $80k on the refit alone (+ the cost of the boat), so I was relieved to see that that figure included the boat purchase.
So, basically it costs everything. :) I sure hope this is going to be like Star Wars where we get a trilogy to a prequel trilogy to a sequel trilogy. Those costing credits really went past like lightspeed... bluewaterboats.org/about/index/
Videos like this one, and channels like yours, have inspired me to build my own boat while I work on some of my other goals. Thanks for all you do!
Thank you for the motivation!! I'm turning 40 this year... it's so crazy... This summer I will be following my dreams while my son is away :-) You are amazing!!
Always love the transparency/numbers vids, keep it up!
RUclips gave me a prompt to work on the subtitles so I touched them up a bit for you guys - hopefully got all the boat and equipment names right! You got a couple of Australian/UK 'S's where you'd probably expect 'Z's, you can keep those as my gift :D
Regarding your link to Amazon. I used it and noticed that the URL ends with .com which I assume to be Amazon USA. Anyway can you get Amazon to extend the same deal to people shopping on Amazon CANADA? (URL ending .CA). I still feel bad about your experience up here so maybe we can get something ( $$$ ) back to you. Happy trails :-)
Love your spirit and willingness to share some reality. Dreams can come true! Thanks for the inspiration.
Love this guys, and don't forget - Count the equity in the boat too!
It's not all money spent or poured down a hole. The boat has a dollar value and although it will depreciate regardless, you have so far improved it's value. There is some money in the boat that will come back to your at some point, so count that into this budget period of time too, or at least don't count everything spent as gone forever.
Thank you for sharing the details of how you are making this happen!
Thank you for sharing! Can not wait to see the places you will go!! You guys are awesome!! My favorite thursday channel ;) ♡!!
Sort of torn between you pups asking us to fund your adventure and the fact I ENJOY your videos. I have been canceling subscriptions lately and have decided your episodes are worth 5 bucks a shot up to 3 to beat the 2.5 average because you guys are not average.
Kudos to you guys for being straight up with your numbers. Vey few RUclips channels are straight up about their numbers; hell very few are even close to transparent. My hat's off to you both
Best content yet. Thanks and keep up the honest, great work....
God bless you for your perseverance and the ability to do this at such a young age. I'm 60 and still working towards it. Not complaining here. We'll get there eventually. Make it a great day!!
Just wondering. Now, three years later, did you?
@@Bloopbliepbloop not yet but still working towards it. Hope to retire and sell the house in the spring.
@@Drivewaysailori'm quite jalous, it sounds like a wonderful adventure. Have fun!
Thanks so much for the transparancy. And omg you guys earn lots for people so young. But it's so important for people to see how its all done. Thanks.
Did the teak really need to be done? V costly. Couldnt you just paint over it?
You guys are great. Keep producing ..eeeer and im not from the US, but i can't imaging you are on average saleries for your age? Either that or im in the wrong country.
Cheers guys.
I have a sailboat access slip, deep draft, right in my back yard and it was yours for however long was necessary, but trying to sit down and give you the details was impossible. Tried to visit during refit...nada. Sorry. to see how much money that could have saved. I live 3 canals over from where Zingaro was docked for her refit, before James finally left for KW
Great video. Great info. You guys figured out at 27 what we didn't figure out until 52, Priorities, priorities, priorities. And, every dollar not spent is a dollar you don't have to produce!
27 years old I didn't have the responsibilies I have today at 51. Kids and bills have been in the way. Great you are doing it now guys while you are still young. Working on doing it now though, now that the kids have grown up.
A very successful business owner once told me that if your dream is big enough that the facts don't count. Well, my wife and I are selling it all next year and casting off. Big dreams to accomplish. Hope to cross paths in 2019. Excellent video.
Great job guys! Happy to see you on the water!
Guys, I very much enjoyed this video, especially the financial transparency. As a sailor of 45+ years having owned several boats, the cost can be shocking once you put a pencil to paper. There are a few things that come to mind that you did not mention that I would ask you to mention in future videos. The first of which is whether or not you have established an LLC. If yes, GREAT!!!! If not, please get on it. It will save you a ton of dough and "Uncle Sam" will actually support you as a silent business partner versus raking you over the coals come tax season or each quarter if you file that way. This is something that I know your audience would appreciate an education on. Next, while you have experienced substantial refit costs initially, once you get past this stage of course still taking into account basic maintenance costs, you will begin to grow your income respectively. Again, it’s not what you make, but get to keep after write offs that make all the difference. You guys are slightly older than my kids and I tell them this all the time. Lastly, enjoy the journey. You two are very young and the curve balls (unexpected costs, health issues, family and so forth) that life will throw at you in time will amaze you. Youth comes with privilege, something older adults only begin to understand once they are past that stage. Adversity is a funny thing. In order to conquer it, you will need a great attitude which you both certainly have but luck will have to be part of the game as well. Some people have a lot of it, others never see the light of day. My advice, have you fun now, market yourselves well, get all of the financial support that you will need for the mile walk as well as the 100 yard dash, prep for both short term and long term financial independence and live fruitful lives. I think you both are GREAT!!!
Peace be with you…………
I like the honesty. It’s why I subbed. If I didn’t have children, I’d be trying to do the same thing. Until they graduate, I have to live through channels like this. 😁
Numbers numbers numbers numbers.... that's office talk. I watch you guys because I love living your life while my work and swamped in my office job. I have my head phones on listening to you guys making it and getting ready to travel the world. I appreciate your drive and open numbers. Keep up the shows. I can't wait till you travel so I can come with you (in my dreams at work). Tims is awesome. Your in good hands.
I know marine products are sometimes ridiculously priced. I'm wondering since you have been on a budget lifestyle, if you find many alternate products in boating that work well at a far lower cost.
Honestly, we haven't strayed too far off the beaten path when it comes to substituting regular products for marine products. Sailing Uma is a great example of hacking around "marine".
Really enjoying watching these while I wait for surgery. I’m going to be double your age before I go but that’s the choices we made too. Happy sailing!
thanks for sharing , i would love to see one more tour of your big boat !
Fabulous presentation! We are in our 60's and have done what you've done on 3 boats! Yes, the disease may be terminal!! To buy and refit your boat you spent roughly $2,200 a foot. Absent the new engine cost, we spent about the same to buy, gut, and restore a Westsail 42 ketch. While our goals are different, we still enjoy the journey. Your vid proves that it can be done at whatever age and on a shoestring, if necessary! Anyway, you have done well, as has Too! Going small , going now, as the Pardeys are famous for works! Keep it up! Fair winds! Doug on WS42 Harmony
Douglas Tate I love how you broke it down by foot! Any sort of data on how that translates for smaller boats please send our way. W42s are incredible boats. Appreciate the comment and thanks for sharing your insights.
I have been curious about this. It is common with lot of various construction industries, which will know roughly how much per foot or per square foot the cost will take. After a lil while one learns how much this will roughly be on average. Ofc there are always exceptions and variances, but roughly you can learn the normal cost to expect.
Het guys - our first boat was a 20 foot trailer sailor we built from plans and the cost was ~ $600 per foot. We moved up to a 1965 Pearson Vanguard which we upgraded and refitted for about $2,000 per foot. The WS42 is our third and most extensive project. While the WS42 was bigger with larger rigging and such, most materials were not really size dependent. Yes, I did all of the woodworking, some electrical, and canvas work. Your efforts are right in the sweet spot as you focused on the necessaries rather than the luxuries. Email me at harmony.ws42@gmail.com and I can get into more detail if you need. Doug
I'd love to see/hear that pocket cruiser list!
Y'all ROCK!!! Keep up the great work!
Thank you, Skip!! Can't tell you how much we love the snubber. Hope you guys are getting ready to head south again sometime next fall!!
Hey guys - as always, appreciate this angle you are taking with your videos. Very helpful. Anyone interested in financial independence or just thinking more deeply about money and lifestyle should definitely check out Mr. Money Mustache.
Our family of 6 are planning to leave for our around-the-world backpacking trip in a few months. In the meantime, I just completed the RYA Competent Crew 5-day sailing course in anticipation that sailing might be "phase 2" . . . thanks for the inspiration. We are happy to be patrons :)
I enjoyed this one a lot more than I thought I would. Hopefully you'll start getting into the cruising next time!
The honesty is refreshing. I added the Amazon link. We buy a lot of stuff there. Kind of live opposite than you guys do! ; )
Awesome video!! I want to start traveling with my dogs across the country and your videos have been very helpful with insight into budgeting and cost! (I started with your traveling across the country video) But how about the amazon Affiliate program do you guys have any type of income from that? Was looking at possibly getting that for my channel so my subscribers could use that link and help support it. Thanks for all the videos guys!
Stick with the HR352. It’s the perfect size for anything you plan and anywhere you want to go
Thank you!!! I REALLY appreciate your openness with the numbers! That's why I started watching you in the first place. The numbers add reality and one can adjust their plans up or down with some reference. (your mileage may vary ;)
Came for Kelsey, Stayed for Kelsey
BIGPOTHEAD - how does it feel to be so shallow and to allow your trousers and hormones to control your mind?
I think you're reading a little too deep into my comment, white knight. You know what they say about assumptions...
BIGPOTHEAD - I think it's pretty obvious what you meant. It's true that I can't see into your heart but nonetheless your comment comes across as shallow.
Dillon - you don't know for sure if 'every penny' of revenue boils down to Kelsey. I for one will probably become a Patreon because I want to see the spreadsheet and other content. Animals can't control their lusts but humans can. I know that sex sells, as do prostitutes, that's stating the obvious. What is the point that you are trying to make?
(Shake my head) Everybody comes and stays for Roo and Lucy. AC are just there to cart them around on adventures. Lol
Thank you for sharing! My wife and I subscribe to a couple young cruising couples and love seeing y’all living your dreams. We plan on looping and talked about 8 years from now but I think that’s going to be pushed up 4 years. We want to enjoy as many years on the water as possible. Saw the USAA logo. Who’s prior service?
Gosh ... if only our politicians were as transparent as you two kids ...
Roo seems really camera-shy ... but thank goodness Kelsey isn’t!
Very nice!! Very nice!! You two are great.. fabulous! But Roo is the main character. Keep up the great work, guys.
Great video. Do you think you overpaid for the boat based on your required refit items?
I'm not a sailor but I do live in a 35' bus motorhome, small is fine but you have to remember that this is your full time home and you need room to be comfortable, I am in the process of building a bigger bus because the 35' is a little small, everyone is different of course so what works for one may not for another but if you go too small you may not be happy over the long term, just keep that in mind when choosing any alternative home, especially a boat I would think as when you are in open water you can't just take a walk somewhere , you are stuck on that boat and need room to move around comfortably, the boat you have now seems about right, smaller may too cramped, I assume you are familiar with La Vagabonde, they said they really enjoy the extra room of the new boat as compared to the 35' boat they had previously, they were on that for 3 years I believe so they have some practical experience there..... just a thought
Outstanding videos! I'm really happy for you guys making your dreams happen through your hard work.
Smaller is almost always better, so is older if you can do classic intelligently and not just old cheap worn-out junk. Our 35-foot Rasmus has us about $50k in total costs with the refit and we replaced almost EVERYTHING on the boat as far as mechanicals although we are looking at a new mainsail right now which is going to be a killer on the budget in itself. But that can be true for any boat, even one not that old. The Rasmus doesn't even have a very big rig for its size but a full-offshore 3-reef cruising sail with all the fixings is probably over $4k if you want to do it right. We are thinking fully-battened in tanbark and it's going to be around $5k because of those choices. That's 10% of what we've spent so far for our boat right there, and near zero possibility of any sweat equity to help with it.
