29] WE'RE DONE | Abandon Comfort - DIY Sailboat Teak Deck Installation

  • This project was brutal. Teak deck removal wasn't bad but then you toss in another few weeks hunched over rebuilding the deck all over again one synthetic slat at a time - no bueno. Cheers to never having to do this again!

It never seizes to amaze me when watching a boat sinking video, that some people will actually blog: "Get over it, it's only a boat". Unlike yourselves, those individuals will never understand the pain staking hours that have gone into the boat to make it your own and you actually lose a part of yourselves with such loss. The sweet note here is that your boat is fine and hopefully will last a lifetime above water so you can make more great videos like this one. Thanks once again for sharing................

So, I said I would have probably just painted the deck - but I do think you guys have done a very professional
job of laying the new teak - and it looks fantastic .

Being in our late 40's now and having made a lot of money doing things ourselves versus paying others to do work, we have been pretty down on the younger generation who have their faces in the cell phones way too often. It is nice to see that all is not lost with examples like this. Nice job and we hope to see you on the water some day when we retire and sail the world.

Noce job on the teak. I little tip on the caulk I learned back at a boat factory building boats.
-Mix 50%rubbing alcohol with water in a spray bottle and spray caulk before wiping it off a tape line. Edges will be smooth as glass and easier to wipe. Helps it dry evenly also.
    Awesome job. Looks beautiful!!
