- Mercedes Benz, BMW and Audi have all recently launched mid-tier performance saloons, in the form of the E43, 540i M Sport and S5. Jaguar too has a cracking V6 powered saloon in the form of the XF S. So how do they stack up?
In this video, we test Stuttgart's attempt to answer their own question: is the E63 just a bit too much? The E43 features the brand's latest twin turbo V6 engine, which we like very much. And with power outputs of 295kW and 520Nm - more than both the Beemer and the Jag, it's certainly no slouch.
But is it worth sacrificing the sublime comfort that the E-Class offers for that extra performance? You'll just have to watch to find out.

A fantastic review! I bought the E43 after 10 frustrating years with 5 new Jaguars (problems, rattles etc.).This E43 is a "dual personality car".The perfect comfortable car for daily use, combined with a very sporty powerful drive! But always controllable under all weather conditions thanks to the 4 wheel drive.And indeed, the sound is great...but please 10% more would be fantastic!
YES! Couldn't agree more. The E43 is stunningly wonderful especially inside. There's really nothing like it. The black one is strikingly gorgeous and that V6 growl sounds better than a farting V8. Looks distinctive and fabulous yet sporty and sinister. Literally my favorite AMG of ALL TIME!

I have this car and absolutely love it. I couldn't wait for the E63 because I needed a car ASAP, and I didn't really feel like spending $400 extra a month just for more power which I didn't really need. Let me tell you, the 400HP BiTurbo still blows most anything else out of the water at a light. In Sport + mode it sounds good, not a V8 good, but good, and that's really the only thing where the E63 would top.... but it wasn't quite worth the extra $40,000. I got a great deal and got $7,500 off sticker. If money was no object and they are both available, sure, get the E63....but the E43 is one hell of a car, as it is.

I leased a 2018 model and I agree. I really can't drop the money that you need for an E63s. That's an amazing car but is over 1.5 times the price of the E43. So, really a different class of vehicle. I compared it to the C63s which was close in price and kind of settled on the "This already has more power than I could ever use and the C63s is a little bit more boy racer than I wanted clients to see me driving. I love the car, it's really fun to drive and also is really comfortable and cool. I would get the E63s if I won the lottery, however.

I just ordered a 2018 E43 sedan, drove a demo and fell in love, coming out of a 2014 CLS 550, which is changing its body in 2019 and going hybrid straight 6, which is not for me, and didn't wasn't a 18 which will be the old body in 5 mos, if the E class still made a 550 version, I would have taken that, I prefer the 8 cylinder, till I drove this car, unreal, I mean it's just fabulous, can't wait to get it

Nice Review. Great car!! I have a 2018 C43 AMG and there are no rattles and squeaks. The cabin is actually quite quiet. I also think the exhaust on the C43s is muccch louder than the Es.

I'm waiting for mine to arrive, ordered March 31, arriving this week, I hope I'm gonna like it, cause I didn't really want an AMG, didn't have any choice in my price range, wanting 400 HP, they no longer produce E550, models, I had a 14 CLS 550, loved it, 18 body old car now, 19 straight 6 Hybrid, I'll pass, so I ordered a E43, nicely appointed, however there was a mistake made, left out Ambient sound deadner, got soft close doors, error, now a guy that doesn't want to hear that exhaust all day, may not like the car, gotta see, my dealer told me it's ok, he can sell it if I don't want it, there are no E43s on the East coast optioned like mine, either the noise reduction, is have to wait 3 more months for a 19, summers over at that point, no rush then, so I'm kinda screwed, I hope the exhaust doesn't bother me, I'm not a teenager, it's obnoxious to me

Looks like a cheap, shitty low-spec merc. Mercedes Benz is rubbish. Their previous generation of cars looked quite good. Now though, they all look like utter shit. A c63 looks like a C 180, and a C 180, looks like a C 63 S. Fucking pathetic.

This E43 has everything designed, built and calibrated by AMG... except the V8. But is that a problem? Compared with cars of other brands in the same segment certainly one of the best ...and "the sweet spot!".That is why this review is SO GOOD!
brother no, its not an amg project nor an amg engine, yes its tuned by amg but thats nothing special, but yes regardless, best of this segment and amazing review, but id personally rather have an s7, those things are NASTY and OH MY that bentley v8 with a flashtune has far more potential and character!
