That guy is so awkward and fascinating. No matter how many times I watch him fight, I cant help but think he is an oddity. Extremly tall and muscular physic for his weight. Very weird movements, not very fluid, almost like a machine. Seems to not defend at all exept for that right hand catch and parry, yet I dont see him being hit so much usually. In fact, he looks like a mantis. It should have been his nickname, Joseph/Joey « the mantis » Saddler. I have the same opinion on Foster. Very unique fighter.
Notice how Saddler's right hand is "awkward" and that he does the lion's share of the fighting with his left? It's because he was really a lefty fighting out of the orthodox stance, so his strong hand was in front but when he clinched he reverted to being a southpaw, the angle change (and his height advantage) give him the appearance of super strength as the opponents have to readjust there angles in the heat of the clinch, like a little George Foreman (yeah, I know tthe connection🙂). Apparently Saddler was the inspiration for Bruce Lee's theory of fighting the strong hand forward and doing about 60+% of the work with it. Shame Saddler was so inconsistent throughout his prime, otherwise there would be no denying his place at the head of the FW ATG list.
