One of the greatest Middleweights of all time! Carlos Monzon was a cerebral, calculated fighter who had a thunderous right hand and a beautiful jab - He was able to keep his opponents at bay with his high ring IQ and excellent distance control so that's what I wanted to focus on in this highlight. An incredible fighter who could hold his own in any era. Escopeta!

He wasn't the fastest or strongest, sure he had massive physical strength and great power punching, but it wasn't like McClellan's power or Hagler's strength. The special think about him was that he knew how to play the game. The guy had an incredible sense of distance, a solid jab, insane accuracy, fast thinker, flawless basics, ring generalship, etc, etc, etc.

Even Marvelous Marvin Hagler said he would have had a tough time against Monzon. One of the most underrated champions of all time.

In my opinion the scariest boxer of all time. He was so intelligent and vicious in the ring and unlike guys like Tyson, Liston or Baer he was genuinely an evil person.

A middleweight with the style of a heavyweight

  • @davidbrandel1311

The title says it all, distance control. I don’t believe any other fighter had Monzon’s mastery of this skill.

One of the things that Monzón was great at: hitting while going backwards

  • @HatianHurricane

I love it when a fighter understands his or her attributes and uses them almost to perfection!!!

There are so many weird things about Monzon. He had a bad temper and was so quick to anger. But in the ring he looked very calm and methodical.
