One of my favorite fighters of all time! Walcott was a sublime boxer-puncher who had dazzling footwork and some of the best counter-punching ability you'll ever see from a Heavyweight. He became one of the oldest champions at the reported age of 37 (many believe him to have been 40+ at the time) and his devastating uppercut knockout against Ezzard Charles is one of the greatest KO's in boxing history. Jersey Joe at his best! www.patreon.com/haNZAgod
I co-sign everything you said! I never get tired of watching Jersey Joe Walcott do his thing and he is still one of the most unorthodox and smoothest boxers of all time.
That slip and uppercut at 2:30 against Ezzard Charles is one of the classic punches of all time. If you had to explain counterpunching to someone, the split second says all that needs to be said.
Yes! One of my top five favorite heavyweights and all-time favorite boxers! The real Cinderella Man and formerly the oldest world heavyweight champion before George Foreman took that title. This man really was something different and I wish there was more footage of him out there of him doing his thing! He really is often times overlooked and he doesn't get the attention he deserves.
According to most observers, Walcott beat Joe Louis in their first fight. Louis was so sure he lost that he left the ring before the decision was announced. Walcott actually got more slick and tricky as he got more experienced. In other words, Walcott's "prime" years may have been in his thirties.
@@SilentMovements305 you can name better boxers but there are few many better fighters and few that had the same relentless determination as Marciano how can someone who defied the odds having the shortest reach of any heavyweight be overrated? with his physic he defied odds alone I personally prefer Walcott deffo one of my faves and ezzard Charles but don’t think it’s fair to discredit Marciano in any way
Whoa. That man is amazing. His speed and power work so fluidly with his movements. A real master artist in boxing. A legend that was very under appreciated and highly disliked by the boxing industry because he was much better than the headline figureheads. Took him over a decade to receive the title he deserved and he earned it well more than anyone before him. A great talented, skillful boxer who faced great and much younger boxers who he still gave a great fight to. Jersey Joe Walcott. An absolute legend in boxing. Gone but never forgotten
Jersey was a great fighter, he gave my great fighter of all Ezzard Charles great left hook ko from hell. Jersey was a great counter puncher, boxer, and footwork. One of the best.
You uploaded this as soon as I put my sparring gloves on. Literally took the time to unwrap and say thank you! Gonna pass all of this knowledge to my students today. You're a GOAT.
Louis, Walcott, Charles, Marciano. What a magnificent era. Louis was way past his prime and Charles was naturally a LHW, but damn they gave us some great fights. Some of the finest pugilist to ever lace them up.
I would not say Charles was naturally a LHW, seen as in the 1950s he couldn't even get down to that weight class, he was the best Light Heavyweight of all time that is for sure, but that does not mean he was only comfortable in light heavyweight, his last ever win, he knocked out a 6ft 6 guy weighing 261lbs. Joe Louis was out if his prime but he did say his punches only got harder with age and he wasn't in his prime, but he was still great.
This fighter was special. Walcott he did great great and one of them better today because you know what was happening back then. Great tribute great job
i liked eubanks uppercut vs watson, i think they said that was first time he was down in his career? to get up and do that showed character. tragic ending though ☹
It feels like Walcott Archie or Floyd Patterson doesn’t get mentioned much or even Ezzard Charles but he’s mentioned by knowledgeable boxing fans but not Fans if that makes sense
Jersey Joe Walcott was an underrated heavyweight, I watch some of Walcott film to study his style he was really crafty and very tricky boxer. Whenever I go Sparring I always imitate Jersey Joe Walcott style because it fits me as a slick counterpuncher I always trick My Sparring Partner Using the technique I learn from Walcott footage and a video about his Technique. Rest In Peace champ!
@Broly ssj Nah, already did. I just mentioned that in the previous post lol. You study what I said in the post before. Prime doesn’t have to be age. Hence, when he was younger he lost to lesser guys in his “prime”. Meanwhile, almost counts in horseshoes and car accidents anyway….Rocky was being nice as we will never know (he said that to Walcott directly on his show). There were two more rounds! Almost bull shit! Rocky destroyed him in the second fight in one round
Look at how he threw his counters. He knew that his timing was flawless thus he fully committed to throw them. This man is a true wizard of boxing legendary stuff. RIP Champ
It's nice to see someone remembering the REAL DEAL legends that fought without "supplements" or anything like that, just hard work and style. 15 round boxing matches, some of them outside, no air conditioning or heating. Joe Walcott was one of the best. A HEAVY HITTING counter-puncher that I swear seemed to have the precision of a SURGEON. It was like he knew JUST the right number of inches to move this or that, JUST when to land his punches. Moved pretty dang good for a big boy too. And quite the gentleman as well.
Love the fact you put these videos up of the greats.. hopefully young fighters come across this channel n see that old-school created the swag you see when think of fighters today boots Mayweather lomachenko rigondeaux..
My favourite heavyweight boxer. He was a genius, an artist of boxing. As he dances and tricks against the great Joe Louis! Fenomenal! He was not grubbing in the ring, he was playing. And this was his weakness, which sometimes caused him to lose. Against such hitters like Louis and Marciano one has to be alert at all times.
One of the most stylistic fighters ever. used to call it the Walcott walk-off he'll walk off and throw counter right hand as you walked in and when he knocked out as a ezzard with that walk-in slip left uppercut one of the best knockouts I've ever seen
Fighters of that day had to go through hell to get a title shot, let alone win a title. The boxrec stats don't do justice to how he fought against the all time greats. He could move like that at the young age of 37, imagine what the guy could've achieved if he had the science and nutrition of today.
Loma and Usyk has both tried to implement some of Wallcotts footwork into their game plans, but it is so complex some of the stuff even to hard for those legends of the sport.
I don't necessarily think Usyk and Loma were sitting there for countless hours just watching films of Walcott they've never mentioned him in any interviews, their styles were developed over 100's of amateur fights and good teachings from their trainers. Natural ability certainly helps too.
@@hanzagod firstly can I ask where do you get all your footage from? Is it just from RUclips or archives? Secondly you don't develop wallcott's footwork just from fighting a lot, it is very unique. Such an underrated champion and legend of them sport. Strangely enough it’s not. The track I used here is a remix of Clams Casino’s I’m God. I used the original in a Lomachenko video about 9 years ago and heard the remix in a playlist I was listening to on SoundCloud
I doubt he would due to Fury's crazy size advantage, that reach of Fury's is no joke. Still if Walcott could get in close there is a good chance he sparks Fury could with a slip into a counter left stright, or a brutal counter uppercut as Fury slipped to the outside. It would be a treat fight Walcott stylistically is one of the few past champions that would be a dangerous fighter for Fury.
The most underrated world heavyweight champion of all time. Jersey Joe Walcott. If he was a few years younger, he would have knocked out Rocky Marciano.
Ali watched film of all the great champions but after he had become successful. Ali got his style from his god given natural ability and working in the gym with the likes of Willie Pastrano and Ralph Dupas.
Walcott's worst performance in the ring, in fact the only real bad one, was when he was the 3rd man between the ropes in the Ali/Liston return match. He couldn't make Ali, who was standing shouting right above Liston, go to neutral corner, which made it difficult for Walcott to correctly pick up the count. Nevertheless, Ali would've won regardless of how many seconds Liston was down.
