Day was a true pioneer of public television: co-founder of KQED in San Francisco, president of WNET upon the merger of National Educational Television (NET) and television station WNDT/Channel 13, and most recently, Chairman of the CUNY TV Advisory Board. The series features fascinating interviews with notable cultural and political figures conducted in the mid 1970's. (Taped:05/06/74)

He probably lived to 84… If we believe his mother. Never understood why he himself claimed he was born in 1916 when his mother said 1913. They touch on the subject in this interview but he dodges the question and is reluctant to answer.

@@listonheinz9103 He did that on purpose fer suspense. He admitted his age in the Bob Costas interview. He admitted to being in his 40s vs. Floyd Patterson. His obituary reads *Born 1913* ..BUT of course Marciano fans always go with 1916

The great "Old Mongoose" sat in the corner of George Foreman. Knocked the great Rocky Marciano down and Rocky Marciano got a long count (no disrespect to Rocky Marciano). This guy was such an amazing human being. Strong physically, mentally, morally and spiritually. And did it all with a good sense of humor. Fought the great Ali (his student) and he was so far past his prime. Wanted to smack the young braggadocious Ali in the face for acting in such a manner. This guy was "class act" personified. He is an example of what it means to be a human being with remarkable faith in God and willing to work hard and never giving up. "THE OLD MONGOOSE."

@@fredflux2738 But, you know, it is a Catch-22 for boxers fighting on their way out. The up and coming boxer must perform his trade an skill. The older boxer chose to be in the ring, probably for a pay day. And, people paid to watch. And, the old champion has the potential to have a punch left in him. The young guy is forced to hit an old man and look like a villain. Marciano boxing an old Joe Louis, the same thing. Marciano cried after the fight, having to punch out his idol, and an American icon and hero.

Extraordinary fighter and man! Actor... the whole deal. A definite GOAT contender... a man who told Ali he'd better develop his chin to face the future... this man fought so long... he was probably older than Foreman was when he fought Marciano for heavyweight and rocked the young man's world without clinching the win.
