I still find it incredible that after a career lasting nearly 30 years, having over 200 fights and fighting into his late 40s Archie seemed to remain coherent his whole life. Even after the brutal fights he had with Durelle and Marciano, the man was really made for boxing

I met Archie in 1982. It was on a TV show and he was our trainer. He was lucid most the time. Occasionally he would drift off and seem disconnected. I would not say he didn’t suffer the consequences of all of his fights. However he did speak clearly but at times it seemed he had mild dementia from boxing. I don’t mean to say this to take anything away from the man because he was a wonderful guy. He had wit, grace and humor. We spoke often about music and boxing. I miss him.

I still remembered his quotations: "when a task is once begun, never leave it until it's done, if the labour is great or small, do it well or not at all". He was a great man. He said he thought he had become UNBEATABLE until he fought Rocky but he said you couldn't hurt rocky and he hit like a dump truck.

I think it was an error not to mention Moore's trilogy of defeats vs. Ezzard Charles, As good as Moore was at Light Heavyweight, Charles was the only man to dominate Moore, and he did it in 1946, 1947 and 1948, when Moore was 33, 34 ,and 35 years old, respectively (the last of which was by a devestating KO) and probably close to his prime. Archie fought as a middleweight from 1935 to 1945, compiling a record of 70-9-5. Moore in his best years at light heavyweight went 79-10-3 from 1945 to his clash with Marciano in 1955. Despite being the knockout King, I think the amount mental resilience he showed on the pathway to the title, and after he won it is his greatest feat. Black fighters, Joe Jhonson was the best by far ,but did not get a chance to fight the White champions, He ran after those fighters for seven years.

African American youths throughout America should look up to men like Moore, Ali, Barry Sanders, Obama, Chuck D.,Jim Brown, MLK, and so many others that lead like men and provide positive influences. Men like these are the true men... There are way too many Jerk off rappers/ athletes/ gangsters/ thugs that glorify violence, drug dealing, abuse of women, and abuse and disrespect of innocent people. Ignorance comes in all colors. We need to change America and guide the youth and protect them. Instead, we're deceiving them and teaching them how to hate. We are all in this life and live on this world together. We live in a lonely part of the galaxy in a lonely part of the Universe. All we have is each other. Let's take care of each other, instead of hurting each other... Your well done documentary, though exquisite, will never completely detail who Archie Moore was. There will never be another. God broke the mold. "Auntie" you referred to was Ms Pearl. She lived in the small cottage aside the mansion grounds on Wabash until late into old age. Archie once rescued her from honey bee's getting stung badly himself. Mrs Alice Moore was one of my parents customers in the early 50's, when my father would go collecting as merchants did at the time, Mrs Moore would ultimately say, "come back Saturday, Archie's fighting Friday".

Good job Rich. Moore was one the boxing legends whose birthday was a mystery whether we took the word from his mother that Archie was born in 1913 or Archie himself claimed he was born 3 years later. Also, Moore was a great boxer/counter puncher as one of the sources he scored 131 knockouts and other sources said he scored 141 knockouts. Even though the National Boxing Association (NBA) stripped Moore of his light heavyweight title in 1960, he continued to reign as New York Light Heavyweight Champion until 1962. He had a cross-armed defense that he adopted from Bearcat Wright while Gene Fullmer and Ken Norton would follow them with that same cross-armed defense. Keep it up Rich.

I've always liked the expression "couldn't miss" and when I see a fight with an "old-time" boxer like Ray Robinson and Archie Moore... That's exactly what it looks like for LARGE portion of there fights, like no matter how banged up or tired they where, they still couldn't miss, with ultra nuanced defense...it's so beautiful and brutal and memorizing and I can't help but wonder "if" that's from all the experience they use to get from the days of 220 fights...

Based on what the narrator said about Archie Moore's technique (in comparison to a Mongoose), which allows a snake to strike until it gets tired, and then the mongoose attacks, I realized that Mohammad Ali may have adopted this technique, modified it, and called it the "rope-a-dope." Archie Moore and Ali didn't do it the same, but Ali's theory and technique are basically the same - let the opponent attack and get him tired, see the opening, and strike back.

Black fighters had to win 40 or 50 fights back in the 40s to get a tittle shoot witch was pritty much impossible while White fighters needed to win 10 or 20.
And the Mafia Controlled most Boxers

    SPOT on, Rich.
Growing up during the 70s and 80s my favorite fighter was Marvelous Marvin Hagler. However, as I began to develop my own fighting skills, I learned about the Old Mongoose, Archie Moore. He soon became my All time favorite fighter, of the Sweet Science of boxing.
I studied a fighting art called Vadha Kempo. Vadha being from India was based on circular movements, and the Mongoose was the styles Mascot. Kempo is Japanese for "extension,"
an addition to the original style.
Growing up, I loved to watch Rudyard Kiplings story brought to animation, Rikki Tikki Tavi. It's a story of a Mongoose who kills Cobras and is the hero.
We had bikes called Mongooses, and people did all kinds of tricks with those bikes.
I guess you could say that I'm a die hard Mongoose fan; well, the GREATEST Mongoose that I know of is Archie Moore: The Greatest Light Heavyweight of ALL TIME.
    R.I.P. Archie ✝🥊
