At the end of my driveway there was a Caddy parked street side. The license plate said Mongoose. The elderly guy driving was wearing a knit type beret and poring over some hand written directions apparently a little lost. I immediately knew who he was and introduced myself. k9boxingchamp Archie had a difficult life, but he always smiled. he fought the great black fighters who weren't allowed to fight for the title early in his career, they beat his ass, but that taught him how to fight. he was avoided by none other than Sugar Ray Robinson. and since Joe Louis was the heavyweight champion and Robinson was the leading welterweight and then middleweight, they wouldn't give archie a title shot for 10 years because they didn't want to darken the division. so when he won the title and his handlers went to pick them up he said "put me down, I should have been here a long time ago." then he held the title for 10 years... this is what forged Archie into an ageless, beloved warrior. No holding all they did was fight. My opinion Archie Moore ACTUALLY IMPROVED each and every single round!!! (first time I've ever seen THAT in a fight!) Only complaints they could have filmed this so much better -- I mean they were filming top quality motion pictures in that year and they did close-ups on live TV in that year too -- so the technology was available -- and they announcers were very VERY lacking -- BUT FIGHT WAS AMAZING!! Thank you for uploading😊
far superior in skill to modern one dimsensional boxers who have given up fundamental skills for flashy speed that isn't functional against a smart fighter. if you watch a guy like Stevenson he only looks fast against bums. anyone with an ounce of craft gives him problems.
One of the most amazing fights in boxing history. Heaven knows how old Moore was at the time. Moore in later years resented the fact that he wasn't remembered as one of the greatest champions of all time. I agree with him -- he wasn't just a colorful character, he was an amazing fighter first and foremost.
I didn't know (until now) that Moore wasn't considered one of the greatest champions of all-time. In this crazy world, you learn something new every day.
The ref was excellent, Sharkey? Got in quick and separated the fighters he didn't allow hugging and grabbing behind the head like today. What a war of will . Tku for post.
The interesting thing about this fight is that had it taken place today, the ref would have ended it on a TKO in the first round. Yet Moore, despite the terrible beating he endured, came back to win the fight on a KO.
What a great fight. So many gems in boxing that aren’t talked about. Fight should have and would have been stopped in round 1 today. Archie was out of it. He came back and not only won but with a KO. 6 knockdowns in one fight thats insane
Thats right. although at the time it was reported that stribling had 126. n on this night Archie scored 127. But as youve pointed out there is much debate as to how many KOS each man had officially. In any case, Archie still holds the record. Hopefully it will never be broken.
Without a doubt, a top 10 fight of all time. Bernard Hopkins is great and deserves much respect, but Archie is way beyond Bernard, besides their age, there is almost no comparison. Bernard could never stay in the fight like that, even a young Bernard.

Masters of Sex - Fight (S2E03)
That Armadillo Curtain...
Archie was a genius.. A sharp mind..
Especially a genius with slipping.
Thank you.
This is a boy fighting a man. His lived experience, ring experience, wisdom, and iron will allowed him to triumph over the younger stronger more energetic man. A true legend. They don't build men like this today.
Moore said after that he didn't train for this fight at all, that he trained while the fight was going on.....one of a kind.....
Awesome fight. Thank you for the English language upload.
A real war. Thanks for posting. maurice
A great fight cheers to the uploader ;)
the greatest comeback in history
I never seen this fight before in my life, and when I seen how Moore kept getting back up in that first round, I said watch he come back and win and sure enough that's what happened
Archie Moore was damn near invincible.
His defense really kept him up when he almost got knocked down for the 5th time.
He was such a gladiator in the arena.
This man was fighting in mortal kombat
Archie aka "the old mongoose " still has the highest ko record , this was a beautiful display of boxing done by him , to come back from being knocked clean and put on the canvas , to using all his knowlege and skills to get the W , its amazing that he came back from that
This 1958 fight was on network TV on a Wednesday night. Much better than one of those $100 pay-per-view rip-offs they have these days!!
Might be my favorite fight fight ever.
The Ole' Mongoose! Truly on of the all time greats! One of my favorite fighters.
De verdad que esa pelea fue un clasico , de valentia y poder , Moore uno de los campeones mundiales de mayor pegada y de una resistencia ferrea ..
No problem pal. If there's any other fights you want uploaded just name them and I'll see what I can do.
One of the best fights ever. Moore was all heart.
thank you
Great stuff here, thanks a lot for putting this up....have you got any Randy Turpin fights? other than the Robinson matches? thanks again, Moore was an all time great....
In today's boxing, after Archie Moore's third knockdown, the fight would have been called a TKO in favor of Durell.
Amazing fight!! Just shows you we need refs like that now -- and fighters who fight to win -- not just for the money -- TODAY they would have stopped it in first round -- and look at the FABULOUS fight we would have missed!! No holding all they did was fight.
My opinion Archie Moore ACTUALLY IMPROVED each and every single round!!! (first time I've ever seen THAT in a fight!)
Only complaints they could have filmed this so much better -- I mean they were filming top quality motion pictures in that year and they did close-ups on live TV in that year too -- so the technology was available -- and they announcers were very VERY lacking --
BUT FIGHT WAS AMAZING!!
Thank you for uploading😊
Archie really knew how to box. He almost boxes like a modern day boxer sometimes . Great upload ! There are too few classic matches on youtube ....
far superior in skill to modern one dimsensional boxers who have given up fundamental skills for flashy speed that isn't functional against a smart fighter. if you watch a guy like Stevenson he only looks fast against bums. anyone with an ounce of craft gives him problems.
With few exceptions (none of which I can think of, offhand) today's boxers do not compare with the boxers of the past.
The legendary Archie Moore is the proof how really great the black murderer's row are. They have Moore's number but Jack Chase.
The greatest Light Heavyweight fight of all time.
The days when men were hard. What a come back from Archie Moore. Respect indeed !!
right they soft as cotton in them skinny jeans smh
highlight rounds
round 1- 0:12
round 5- 13:07
round 10- 28:44
They say the old Mongose was 44 here!… incredible fighter. A true boxing God . 🔥.
The ref was excellent, Sharkey? Got in quick and separated the fighters he didn't allow hugging and grabbing behind the head like today. What a war of will . Tku for post.
Howcum I click on this and don't get that first dramatic round?
One of the greatest fights of all time!
ALREADY KNOCKED DOWN TWICE IN THIS ROUND, and
...BOOM
1:56.
And he gets up still wins by ko.
God bless ya, Archie Moore.
Nice one Barn!
I like it - inspiring fr
The interesting thing about this fight is that had it taken place today, the ref would have ended it on a TKO in the first round. Yet Moore, despite the terrible beating he endured, came back to win the fight on a KO.
I am sorry, I just cannot do it with this video quality, too many skips, I can't see many of the shots landing or I cannot see their effects.
Greatest comeback fight in history. Archie moore also broke young striblings Knockout record with this win aswell.
In an interview many years later Moore reckoned Durrelle was a harder puncher than Marciano .
That's a fantasy fight
Moore one of my all-time favorites
Simply amazing fighters.
Probability watched that first round and was like, "Hey your guess is as good as mine..."
cant remember seeing many better fights than this one. Moore was some boxer
OMG. What a fantastic fight!!!!
If it had been anyone else, Durelle would have had this fight. I give him great credit, but Archie was a crafty old sod! Brilliant
Best fight I have seen
they go hard af back in the old days
A great fight.
The man who convinced Ali that he must work on his cross arm defence and could not just rely on his headmovement and speed as defence.
What great champion moore was age 44 and still getting up and come back too win the fight, LEGEND
