Appears to have been on a lot of Acid or possibly Roofied, found naked, terrified in a trailer on a construction site wearing nothing but waterproof boots, and police tell her to just DRIVE herself home? I’m absolutely horrified and heartbroken by the circumstances surrounding her death and complete negligence on the part of law enforcement

Bizarre. She’s hiding and naked. Expressing fear. They mention possible drugs and or mental health issue. That’s grounds for a 5150 hold. Adverse to drug’s possibly and mental break, they allow her to drive a vehicle home. They failed her miserably.

Was she naked when they found her body in the water or was she dressed? She was naked when cops found her at construction site n sent her home… So did she go home n get dressed or no. Also, when cops found her at construction site, where were her clothes? In the car? Or did she leave home naked and drive to the site like that?

Hi John. I rarely comment on your videos but I watch every Friday. I went to rehab for Meth. People don't realize how bad Meth psychosis really is. It took me out in 6 months after trying it for the first time. It has a molecular structure that is very close to LSD. It causes euphoria but also extreme paranoia, and from sleep deprivation it also causes you to trip. Not in a good way believe me! I can't make assumptions on this case but in recovery I heard so many stories from people in AA/NA meetings about the same kind of thing happening to them. Running through the woods and trying to hide from whatever you think is out to get you. Being able to drive and completely rational if confronted by police. I had a very similar experience that frightened me to the point where I checked myself into rehab. I feel lucky to be alive and thank God I wasn't involved in a car crash that would have injured others or would have been fatal. People need to realize a lot of these bizarre cases are Meth related. And the west coast has been overtaken by it. My prayers go out to Mekenna's family. Once again I wouldn't assume that this was what happened to Mekenna but it seems disturbingly familiar. Along with many other cases you and Danielle Hallen have covered. I checked myself into two different hospitals on my 5 day binge and was sent back out into the public to drive my car around within hours both times. In this case the police should have detained her for her own safety. She was trespassing and wearing only boots. That would get me arrested in PA for sure! Thanks for what you do and keep up the good fight!

Great coverage of this case. I am left feeling the only conclusion to be made is that Mekenna was very frightened. Whether the source of the fear was real or imagined, it caused her to act in a manner that was not typical, and a clear opportunity to get her help was missed.

Did she not tell the cops why she was afraid, who she was afraid of and did they not ask? How is this conversation not being had? If I was a cop I would have asked her a lot of questions of who why and what specifically and drove her home to check the situation out! Did they let her drive away naked? Hi, John. Just a comment. I can't remember why I wanted to say this.
My best friend lives in this area. This area goes through wild fires every year. Yes, I could see how it could affect the terrain. I hadn't thought of that. Sometimes the smoke gets so bad she can't see the apartments across the way from her.
Every year, just about, she has a story from her niece. Her niece fights those fires.
That area is gorgeous but rugged. I can see why it's so difficult to find anyone.

So, I'm 10 mins in. She was found naked, in the construction container, then she got in her car *naked* , and drove off? The cops were just like "yeah that seems normal"? I'll edit this comment once I see more of the video, but at this point, I'm really confused.
Edit: A couple things come to mind here. Theres a meth issue happening in most small towns, I would say "in oregon", and "recently", however, I recall there being a problem with "crank" (meth) going all the way back to the early 90s in small towns in Idaho, Washington, Oregon, and Utah (I lived in those states from '90-early '00s). Because of the current political climate, and the recent decriminalization of drugs, some like to think these issues have only just begun. Also because of the current political climate, some LE in many of these small towns are using the "self cleaning oven" method of dealing with anything that even remotely seems drug related. I'm currently living in a tiny town in Oregon, and watching it play out here in real time.
I'll come back and edit, again, after watching more of the video.

Basically though Mekenna lived, appx. 3 miles from the last sighting, on the road that led to one side of the reservior, which is located less than a mile from her driveway. The first photo you showed was the side closest to her house. The other photo that you showed where you questioned the access to the structure is on the other side of the reservoir, which is closer to where she was last seen.

The fact that investigators told the family that it appeared she was "either roofied or on a lot of acid" really shines a bright light on their utter incompetence considering those two different things wouldn't look even remotely similar to one another. They're on two polar opposite ends of the drug intox spectrum. Someone who's been roofied is going to be extremely tired and lethargic, very slow to respond and/or react, nodding in and out... whereas somebody on a lot of acid is going to be wide awake, frantic, pupils completely dilated, having hallucinatory delusions, etc... you know... "trippin' balls." Two VERY different drugs with wildly opposing effects and stimuli.
And then... knowing that these knuckleheads were assuming she was "either roofied or on a lot of acid," why the hell would they just let her drive home (especially considering it was a woman who was butt-naked)?! That makes even less sense! Regardless, my sincere condolences to her family and loved ones. I really hope they're able to find better answers to their very reasonable questions. Unfortunately, it seems like local law enforcement is far too inept to be able... or even willing to provide them with any of the answers that they're looking for.

Reservoirs are gigantic in Oregon, there is a dam which lets water in and out of the Blue River Reservoir, therefore water is deep or there isn't any depending on the time of year. Half of Oregon is rainforest and the rest is desert and coastal, even the coast is right up next to forests. It can be very isolating. It's kind of been normalized; the amount of people who come here to eat shrooms and run through the forest naked. So many people get lost in the wilderness here, yet most get found. Yes, the officers should have at least followed her home and checked out her residence for her safety. Drug use in the forest is not a good idea; too much to get paranoid about and you really need all your faculties to take care of yourself if you live out there.

I want to ask a question halfway through the video before I forget the question.
Do you think the guy in the picture around the twenty-nine minute mark was going to another unit and just hit the wrong button? You seem to suggest that as a possibility. In that case, he has no connection to her situation. If that's the case, he's just a guy who was entering his unit number and hit a wrong button. He was probably denied at first and then went back and entered the right unit number and passcode.

I know it's bad everywhere but in Oregon, PDs are right wing and the government is less right wing. PDs are constantly fighting any attempt to get them to stop mistreating people, or to reduce mass incarceration. They have openly said that they are not going to participate in enforcing a bunch of our laws. Basically "you wanted decriminalization legal, fine, it's legal to do what she's doing, we can't do anything"

I’m skeptical that this was a mental health crisis, as it’s incredibly rare for someone in their 40’s to have their first psychotic break. It could be drugs, but she was able to hold down a steady job as a teacher before her disappearance (which makes me think maybe not?) Ok, only 30 mins in, and I can already say that those police failed her. From the position of someone who's been on both sides of the mental health crisis situation, I can't see any way that McKenna was in a safe condition to leave, driving her own car, after being found naked and afraid hiding on a construction site! Allowing her to do so was pure negligence. She needed medical attention, whether her condition was drug related or not, and it likely would have saved her life if she'd been taken to a hospital for observation and had her family notified, rather than being allowed to leave unsupervised.

If she was under the influence she still has the right to refuse help. It's not illegal to be naked in a big ass Oregon forest either.

One of the reasons LE does not release case files in certain situations (especially when there is suspicion of substance use/abuse) is because the degree of decomposition can interfere in the determination of current and historic drug use. If LE suspected ongoing drug use and witnesses profess to drug use, there could still be problems with family and loved ones who will claim otherwise. If a body is not examined rather quickly after death, toxicology reports can be rendered useless.

It appears that this was an unfortunate accident that happened while Mekenna was probably having some mental difficulties. I also think that the PD should close the case and let the family have the records. Virtually nobody trust police anymore in this country, and this is exactly the reason. I don't even see that they did anything wrong, or at least made the best call they could in a difficult situation, but when they hide everything by obviously lying about an active investigation, it just makes it look like they must be hiding something. If the PD are afraid it will make them look inept, then they shouldn't worry because everyone already thinks they are inept. Hiding the investigation just makes them look inept and suspicious.

For all we know, the police _did_ follow her home and made sure she was safe. I'm almost certain they _would_ have provided her with a blanket or spare clothes because it's standard police procedure in these circumstances. Just because it's not explicitly stated that doesn't mean it didn't happen that way.
And making the suggestion that an arrest and incarceration is a simple and safe option is really lacking insight. We all know how fraught taking someone into custody can be, especially is they resist. The police could have been in a tough position here, with no mental health specialists available.

I’ve noticed some are quick to judge police actions, no matter what. Looking @ cases “objectively” is rare these days. Believe the victim, the victims’ families, & blame the cops, blame the DA’s is getting’ real old (to me). I prefer just the facts, opinions @ the end. I agree w/ you, & police don’t always tell the public the behind-the-scenes full truth.

Having a close family member with mental health issues, our hands are tied and LE has no power to help us even during dire and dangerous occurrences. They cant detain nor arrest.

I’m going to share this with some people I know who are pursuing more info (and thankfully JLC was imprisoned on June 6th on other charges BUT won’t be in there for much longer! ) LE dropped the ball on this one.
    Thank you, John!

In my experience you have to put in your unit number or account number as well as a password to get into a storage facility. You need both, just one without the other won't allow entry. There can also be a magnetic card swipe as well as a code needed and he may have had one but not the other. I don't have any information about this case but just wanted to say it could make sense if the storage facility owner knows it was her storage unit he was trying to get into.

Clearly struggling anyone in a shed naked ya think??!!!!!!

She’s also been linked to the Jesse Lee Calhoun murders. He was just indicted for murdering three women in the Portland metro area. Mekenna’s case is very similar to these three women, as well as two other women’s whose bodies were found around the same area in similar circumstances.

See, decriminalization of hard drugs in Oregon leads many investigative officials to not bother with addicts unless they're being disorderly. I understand why they didn't take her in on anything related to that. But i really wish they had used better discretion and taken her in anyway.

I hope her family sues that sheriffs department for all it’s worth. They should be held liable for her death. I know there’s a ton of drug use up there in Oregon and I’m sure they get tired of dealing with it, but they should have at least had her checked out, taken her to a hospital or followed her back home.
