- Do you struggle with how to connect a PTO shaft on your tractor? This may seem like a no-brainer, but there's a way to make connecting your PTO-driven implements easier with the Kubota B2601, B2301, and possibly other compact, sub-compact or other brand tractors. That "trick" is to manually turn your PTO - but it's not that easy and not always that obvious.

This is the one! I've been cussing & fussing with the PTO on my Massey Ferguson for literally decades. I knew there had to be a better way. This is it!
My God, how did I not know this. Was extremely painful to attach my bush hog on my 2680. Thanks for the video
Glad it helped!
Wow, you rescued me once again! I needed to get the belly mower off of my B2301 but couldn’t detach the PTO shaft. Thank you, thank you, thank you! You are truly a Godsend. Now I just need to muster up the courage to grade my very bumpy gravel driveway using a rear blade. 😊
Awesome! Do you have a rear blade? If so, just turn it around so the cutting edge is facing the rear, then drive forward (back dragging the blade). That way it won’t dig in.
@@MyClutteredGarage Yes I do have one. I really appreciate that advice … thanks again!
I tried for an hour to connect the PTO shaft of my chipper. Stopped and watched your video then did it in 60 sec. Thanks!
Nice! Glad it helped!
Great tip, Ed. The L series turns freely (no mid-mount PTO), but hooking up 3pt equipment is always so much fun!!
This is a great tip. Connecting the PTO shaft is never as easy as you would have thought it should be but you your tip makes it way easier, thanks. We just need to see if the same applies to our bigger equipment
OMG! I can't believe this, I hate putting on my finish mower because of lining the splines up. I have been taken the guards off the top of my mowing deck and spinning the belts while trying to line them up. All the time, effort, pain from smashing my fingers for no reason... You are my new hero! THANKS
Hey Joe! Glad it helped!
I can't wait to have my frustration level drop. I am about to attach my Tiller this week. I have always fought with the drive shaft lining up. You just saved this guy at least 10 mins of his life.
I hope so! Good luck, John!
Good to know. Thanks. I have not had that issue because I was always able to turn my equipment shaft by hand, although not easy on my bush hog. You just made my day easier.
Hey Eddie! Great tip! Thanks a lot! Ayn and Margaret sent me
Thanks TJ!
💥 Great tip! I did that not long ago with my snowblower.
*Keep on tractoring!*
I liked and subscribed. You saved my day. I was so happy when I got the bush hog off that I started Whooping and jumping around.
Haha! Woohoo!
Your video has saved me valuable time and frustration. Greatly appreciate your video.
Thank you!
Hi Ed! Good info. Not an issue on my L3901 because when the PTO is disengaged the PTO spins freely which certainly makes hookups easier. Thanks for sharing!
Hey Martin. This is the first tractor I’ve had that DOESN’T spin freely. Hope all is well!
Nice tip! I never thought about shifting the pto to make it spin. I will have to keep that in mind for the future!
Dang! I did not know that. Thanks for posting this. :)
It’s the simple things in life 😄
@@MyClutteredGarage Yes sir. All my implements hook up really easy EXCEPT for my PTO generator. That thing gives fits and I am really reluctant to use it because of that reason. Maybe this will help! :)
Hello. Ed.
This is great news. The only pto implement we have is a chipper , but we do struggle with it. I will try this technique when we
use it next.
All the best,
Ben
Thanks for linking the pot extender,I’m gettin one!!
Thank You Very Very Much Ed, Just picked up a B3200, will be using a rotary mower and tiller this spring, Great to now!
I did not know this trick! thank you so much for this info. saves my back big time!!!!
Thanks Ed. It took me a while to figure that out also but I did a year ago. It sure make life easy. Doing the same for mid mount works with putting it into rear mode.
A life saver - thank you! It works on a Kubota B2230 in the UK too.
Great!
Very good advice, and helpful tip! I do this for my front mounted snow blower! Have a great weekend
Great tip Ed. And no that is news to me. Thanks for sharing
Great tip Ed, and very timely for me! As always, clearly thought out out and well presented! I know it's not, but you sure do make it look darned easy!!! 👍😎
Thank you, Chris!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I kissed your face through the screen. This works on my lx2610 and couldn't get my new tiller on because of the tines not lining up and it wouldn't move. I can't wait to till tomorrow!
Excellent! I hope it works for you! And thanks for the kiss, LOL.
You also put the pto to the rear pto and it helps on hooking up mid pto .
I do this on my b2601 when I put mower deck on it
Hope you have a blessed weekend
You have some good information videos. Thanks Ed
Thanks Ed. This is a +10 tip!
Excellent info to know.. Thanks Ed.. Have a nice weekend..
Thank you. I really needed this information.
Good trick Ed. Hope your weekend is good 👍✊
Good tip, Ed. On my Massey Ferguson GC2610, I can put the rear and mid pto's (or is it ptoes 🙂 ) in neutral, so both spin freely. Thanks for sharing. - Rick
Very cool discovery there Mr. Ed.
I did not know that, sir! Love the tip, thanks!
🚧🚧Good Day Sir🌞Your Tip Applies To All Brands Of Tractors With Mid Power take-offs ( PTO ) Sir 🧐👌👍 Have A Good One And Love Your Ending Sir Cheers 👍👌😇🍻🚧🚧

Thank you! That was very helpful 😊

Great tip. Should work on my 3560.
Thanks. I needed that.

Good tip, thanks! ✌
Great information!!
Thank you!
AWESOME Tip thanks for the info
Glad to help!
Hi Eddie, I do enjoy your new opening!!! Question: is it new????
I also keep the splines wet with fluid film. Seems to make it easier to slide the shaft on.
Reminds me of working on my buddy’s 60 something mustang, we couldn’t pull the distributor out: we tried and tried until one of us put the transmission in neutral. Then it came right out. We laughed!!
😄😄😄
Thanks
Seen the same tip just the other day on a video
The problem you can run into is that the PTO select will not go back to the rear PTO because the internal splines are "out" or alignment and that can be a pain to fix.
I haven’t had that experience with mine yet. Maybe it will help to start the tractor and or put it in neutral?
I put the PTO in neutral and it turns. The only problem I have is that I don't have a lot of strength in my hands, so pushing the lock pin in can be a challenge. I've found if I can use something to push it in (I use and old HF punch) then I can hook everything up no problem.
Mr. Ed, 👍👍👋👋
Mr. Bob!
Hey, thanks...
Instead of of extension on tractor pto, an over-running clutch should've been mounted on the implement gearbox solving a couple of issues 😊
Thank you did not know
I tried your trick (I have the exact same model of tractor and exact same chipper) but when I engage the front PTO with it doesn’t seem to allow the back PTO to rotate freely…ever encounter any difficulty with this? I might just be missing something simple.
Bu sure you’ve got the mid PTO only engaged (not both). Even then, the PTO does not move freely. You may have to turn it harder than you are. Let me know!
@@MyClutteredGarage success! Because it was brand new it was just extra stiff- I let the back PTO spin unattached for a minute and then once I switched to front PTO only I was able to spin it with my hand- still more resistance than the video, but I think that just comes with use.
Thanks!
Deere's turn in reverse freely.
For some reason it doesn't work on mine. I called the dealer and they don't know.....
It doesn’t turn easily. Try using a rag or gloves to get a good grip on it.
@@MyClutteredGarage I did and I hear gears meshing. I emailed Kubota to see what they have to say.
@@MyClutteredGarage I emailed Kubota, and they said the PTO shaft doesn't disengage, but it will have a few degrees of back and forth rotation. They also said the implement shaft must be turned to align to the PTO shaft.
Unfortunately it doesn't work for my b2601
It Should. It works on my B2650 and Eds 2601 .Are you sure it is in mid mound drive only and not a combination of mid and rear
Right, CB. That should do it.
I'm positive. I've seen this on GP outdoors as well. Tractor is new 25 hrs run time and probably less than 1 hour of PTO work. So maybe it needs more run time to loosen the gears. I wish it did work for this old man.
@@mschroed99 one more suggestion. Even when disengaged this way, the PTO is still not easy to turn. Be sure you’re putting some muscle behind it. Good luck!
Mine either. I have a 2022 year and Kubota says it can't be done.
