  • In a previous video I review a PTO quick connect product. Recently that video got the attention of PTO-Link which also makes a PTO quick connect product and they sent me one of theirs to try out. I’m always interested in products that make tractor operation easier, so I was more then willing to try it out.

    It's hard for me to justify the cost, yet at some point that won't matter. I miss the pin style pto shaft locks. My rotory cutter has a collar and it's a bear to pull back and fight the shaft on. It's two hands just to get the collar back, otherwise it just goes sideways.

      That’s exactly right. I just got the PTO-Link. What was amazing is they shipped it to me out of the blue without contacting me first. No company has done that before. The inventor put a letter in the box saying it was complimentary but he hoped I would make a video on it. So I didn’t have to, but because they took a gamble, and because I had heard of them in the marketplace, I decided to make the video. Thanks for watching!

      Let’s keep up justserious! That is and has been RUclips for years! But, it doesn’t come without a lot of work on the content creators. Try filming you day with multiple cameras on different angles, stop and start and resetting equipment, not to mention editing, meeting time lines and not getting slapped for “copyright infringements”! What guys like Martin do for us viewers, is a job…don’t think for a second it’s not. So if Martin or any other content creator gets to keep the product they are reviewing…don’t let jealousy eat you up…get a couple cameras and get in their game. And no, I do not have a RUclips channel or know Martin from anywhere but his channel, so rest your fears. Finally, Martin has one of the best channels available to us, so try benefiting from the tool and not getting green with envy!

    I must be mentally challenged because I have been trying to install this dang thing for over an hour and no luck or maybe because I'm a 70yr. old woman & not strong enough😅. I bought the HD version&have a little JD 990 540 rpm 40.4 hp. I got the female end installed no problem then I attached male end & when I connect shaft the collar clicks but is not secure, maybe I got the wrong version? I called the customer service number and no answer. Maybe they are closed. Will try again tomorrow. Also it is a 6 spline, 3"

      Hi Brian! Interesting. I’ve always found it harder hooking up that unhooking the PTO. The collar on my brush hog PTO shaft will slide forward and backward but it only seems to release the locking ball bearings when pulled back, so I have to pull the collar back while pushing the PTO shaft on the the PTO. Thanks for watching!

      Your still dealing with splines and pins. After 50 plus years on the farm if you keep pto covers on the pto if tractor equipped and keep your shaft clean it slips and locks in place like it should. Even with this system takes out spline alignment but my problem would be somehow the pin or safety pin would get stuck. If it works for you great

    It can be a real nuisance hooking up PTO driven implements. I like the idea of this thing. When I'm hooking up my 6' Bush Hog it's a pain getting between the tractor and mower deck trying to work between the lift arms, and top link. What I've taken to doing is stopping the tractor about a foot or so away from the deck so i have a little more room to work, then when I have the spline engaged, I back the tractor up and hook up the three point. This PTO adaptor would make it even easier. I'll have to start saving my pennies, (nickels, dimes, and quarters) and get one of these.

    • @DIYMyWay
      @DIYMyWay  6 месяцев назад

      Hi Douglas! So true. That’s a good idea to hook up the PTO shaft before you’ve backed up all the way. Thanks for watching!

  • @JCWren
    @JCWren 2 года назад +3

    My biggest complaint about hooking up things like rotary mowers is having to turn the drive shaft. It's hard to start turning, then once it is turning, it's got some inertia, so I end up overshooting the spline alignment. I think this PTO adapter would make it easier in some respects, but now instead of turning the drive shaft up to 60 degrees to get to the next alignment point, you'd have to turn it up to 90 degrees. However, the large window of the teardrop shape may make it easier to slide the spine shaft forward when it's aligned. And at least you don't have to fiddle with holding in the push-pin with your hands buried up under the PTO shaft shield.

    • @DIYMyWay
      @DIYMyWay  2 года назад +2

      I know what you mean, J.C. The inertia of implements like rotary mowers and wood chippers make it tough and frustrating. One benefit of the PTO-Link is it makes it easy to turn the PTO on the tractor (which should spin freely when disengaged). So if turning the shaft is too tough, just rotate the plate of the tractor part of the PTO-Link. Thanks for watching!

    I'm totally impressed with the PTO quick link. So easy to install on my Kubota L4701 and Land Pride bush hog. Can be easily removed from both and re-installed on another tractor and appropriate implement. No modification of PTO shaft required for the bush hog. Since it's so easily transferred to other tractors and implements, I went ahead and got the HD (blue) like in the video. That pretty much will cover my bases if I want to use it on another HP tractor or implement. This PTO Quick link makes it SO much easier for those of us that have a quick hitch mounted, as those of us that do, know there's little room to move around and adjust between the QH and the PTO. What was a slow, contorted, struggle, can now be accomplished in less than a minute. IMO, the PTO quick link is a liftetime investment of use.

    You said you wanted us to tell our experiences with PTOs, so...
    The last time I changed implements the PTO hookup was pretty easy, barely an inconvenience. The time before that, it took me about 20 minutes and I was ready to get something like this!!! Like others have said, though, I've held off because of the cost. They're just SO expensive for those of us who putz around on our tractors in retirement, working small acreage. I guess when it gets bad enough (with spinal stenosis, that might be sooner than later!), I'll have to bite the bullet and get one.

    Might be a good idea to use anti sieze. This looks like an excellent product. We use tillers in poultry houses so we have to unhook as soon as we are done or else the corrosive action of the litter will rust it all together. We also always pull the pto shafts apart when we are done. We have a HX15 batwing that we strictly abuse. I wonder if this would hold up to that.

    I think I like it! And the price is reasonable. One question Martin…made in America using all American parts?
    Another outstanding review! You’re an absolute blessing to your viewers!

    I own this product and, at 74 years of age, making PTO connections was always a grief. Not so much anymore although it can get testy at minus 20C or so. As always, your videos are a great help. Thanks from Ottawa Ontario.

      Yes, the PTO-Link makes PTO hookups MUCH easier and less frustrating. Glad to know my videos have been helpful to you! Thanks for watching!

    I am 73 years old and connecting implements was getting harder and harder for me to accomplish. I bought a quick-link and now I can connect with ease. Great idea!

      Hi Louis! Glad to hear the PTO Link has made it much easier for you. Heck, I’m 63 years old and it’s been getting harder to hook up PTO shafts, so the PTO Link has been a big help to me. Thanks for watching!

    Did you end up doing a video comparing this and the PTO Connect? I'm semi-disabled (a chronic pain issue) and I've decided I need something like this. A straight-up comparison would be helpful. Right now I'm leaning towards the PTO link because I have a B2601 and the small size of their Compact version seems like an advantage.
    Also, I now have wood chipper envy! I spent a few hours yesterday shredding brush for my compost piles, using a standalone Champion 7 Hp chipper / shredder. It works, more or less, but your tractor-powered one does a much better job. Even with my small property (~1.3 acres) I may need to upgrade.

      Hi Laura! Not yet but soon. However, I can say for your case I agree the PTO Link is a good choice. The Titan wood chipper has worked really well for me and I’m pretty sure your B2601 has the PTO horsepower to run the chipper. Thanks for watching!

      @@DIYMyWay Thanks. I ended up ordering the PTO Link Compact. I'm impressed with the build quality and ease of installation. I haven't used them much yet, though. Hopefully the rain will hold off tomorrow and I'll be able to deep-rip and then till my garden. (Better late than never!)

      That’s great, Laura. If it’s any consolation, we haven’t planted our garden yet either. Hopefully we can over the weekend.

    It is pretty obvious in the video, that you make it look like it is difficult to connect the pto without the adaptor.

      Hi Kenny! Thanks for asking. We didn’t get any of it, thank goodness. Not even a drop of rain.
