  • In 40 degree heat, in the largest sand desert on the planet, Chad Sayers and Chad Manley go looking for the one of the world's strangest of ski environments: Ski Dubai. In the midst of a city of dizzying ambition, this 'local hill' climbs 60 vertical meters out of a luxury shopping mall. Inside the frigid, air conditioned space, they find a dedicated ski community of desert-dwellers, growing in the unlikeliest of places.

    The cinematography in this is some of the best I've ever seen. The editing is tops too. Well done, Arc'teryx.

    This is Unreal! Guess we have air conditioning anywhere so why not this! I'm happy that desert folk can experience what I love!

    As a Canadian who partly grew up in Dubai (4 years for my parent's work), I have seen many videos that showcase this city, but I have never seen one that captures the everyday vibe and aesthetic of the city in such an honest and accurate way. Amazing videography, it was almost as if this was shot through the eyes of a local that wanted to capture that everyday essence we don't often see in travel films.

    ‘Dubai: A Skiers Journey’ part of a web series by award winning Arc’teryx photographer Jordan Manley has been named to the ‘Official Selection’ of the Mountianfilm Telluride 2014. Jordan and Arc’teryx athlete Chad Sayers travel to ‘Ski Dubai’, an indoor ski facility that climbs 60 vertical meters out of a luxury shopping mall in the largest sand desert on the planet.

    Interesting video, a bit to romantic for an indoor ski hill presentation. I can understand the good feeling of skiing in the desert, it's a like minded culture everywhere, like being at home while abroad maybe.

    Beautiful production values on this! I don't know why that Morrocan guy would move to Dubai to ski everyday. . maybe it's a passport issue.

    I skied Dubai. Their black diamond is not even hard. Waste of money

    • @car1090rlong
      @car1090rlong 9 лет назад +4

      Metsfan123 It really isnt a black. Look at the slope of the building. There is no way it can house a black diamond. If you want to ski steeps, go to a resort. But this is a miracle of Human engineering. Whats amazing is that its there, not what it has

    • @metsfan1233
      @metsfan1233 9 лет назад +2

      RandomMuffins I know. What i am saying is that so many people in this comments section are saying that this is a "hard" black diamond. I'm trying to correct them. PS I do ski resorts (Jackson Hole)

      Nice choice of resort. Jackson is the best
