  • The Abarth 595 Competizione is something different in a world where standing out is key. The 595 produces 180bhp but also returns 45+mpg. It's cheap to insure, cheap to tax and cheap to run, but is the Abarth 595 Competizione the hot hatch king? Can the 595 fight off Fiesta ST's, Cooper S's and Polo GTI's? Find out in this episode of Music Motors as we put the 2020 Abarth 595 Competizione to the test.

    Is this the hot hatch king? Unique, fun and a great noise!

      Yeah for the taller person the seats can be very difficult. The Sabelts can be put on lowering rails though, which is helpful.

    I've had one for 6 months now and I do love it. Using it on the motorway was the biggest surprise as I was expecting it to be horrible, but actually it's nicer to drive on the motorway than it is around town! The only compliant I'd have on long journeys is the road noise, but that's it.
    The seat height is easy to get used to after under a week. Chose leather sport seats over the Sabelts, although they're a £100 optional extra in the Comp over the sabelt seats which come as standard. Worth it if you want a bit more comfort, plus the leather lifts the interior as the door card inserts are also leather trimmed with that option.
    Turning circle in parking spaces is not great, as mentioned in the video. By far an annoyance though. It is what it is. Infotainment could be better (Apple CarPlay sometimes laggy and a bit fiddly, but the Mopar unit is getting long in the tooth now). Beats audio is 100% worth it. Only a 6 or so inch sub in the boot where the spare wheel would otherwise be. It's a £350 option - good value for money considering how pants the standard system is.
    I often see Fiesta ST's around and they just don't command the same presence as the Abarth. They blend in too much and seem a bit too boring (although a fantastic car no doubt). Some cars just grab you on their character alone. The Abarth is that car. If you want one, nothing else will do.
    The sound and drive is like crack - just so addictive and makes me smile every time. I reckon this is the closest modern day equivalent to a Renault 5 GTT.

    That was a honest review and not the usual negative nit picking you always hear on what is to me the Best underrated hot hatch on the road, this marque was hardly known until more recent years, people just didn't know what the badge, marque was 🤔
    The faut findings always the same, interior space, harsh ride, too much plastic going on, too much noise !
    It's a performance ffs!
    And unlike its rivals It's a car that's hardly changed since 2008 other than a bit of a face-lift and more kit inside, mechanical it's the same from day 1
    You mentioned the door handles, basically the small hinge can corrode, I spray on gt 40 on mine from time to time but it's usually cos the handle are yanked open and over time can become loose as you mentioned.
    The seat's was another complaint but you covered 400 miles bearing in mind those seat's aren't height adjustable but are still perfectly comfortable, the harsh ride is because its a performance car with stiffened suspension so could hardly be lol 😉
    So to sum it up if you think it's too small, too uncomfortable and too noisy don't buy one but I'd recommend you'd drive one 1st
    Like your road test shows you'll be Amazed how good it is
    As I've always said to people life's too short not to have an Abarth in it ! Great review 😉👌🚗

    The Fiesta ST may be the best “Drivers car” and the “most engaging” as every big reviewing company says, but I’ve driven a basic 145hp 595 and that was more fun and made me smile more than the ST!

    • @TomKentMusic
      @TomKentMusic  3 года назад +1

      Agreed. The ST is refined, but refined isn't always king. Sometimes a bit of raw madness is what really feels like fun.

    Great review; I’m about taking delivery of a comp later this year. Can I ask if the MPG you achieved over the 400 miles journey was in normal or sport mode (or both)? Thanks

    • @TomKentMusic

      Mix of both, but many hours sat consistently at 70mph.

    Also if you buy a used one replace front suspension arm bushes for uprated polyurethane bushes the standard fiat ones simply cannot cope. And dont make the same mistake as me and replace for new arms they dont last and are mega expensive just replace the bushes in your old arms

      From Abarth UK’s point of view, and for all intensive purposes, it’s as good as a 2020 - as they’ve changed very little. That’s why they sent it over. 🤗

    Why would abarth ruin a 595 with a awful looking 500 badge on the dash

    • @TomKentMusic
      @TomKentMusic  3 года назад +2

      Agreed. Some effort could’ve gone into making it model specific. Sadly it’s an off the shelf FCA part, probably saves them a fortune in the long run.

      The 135’s aren’t supposed to compete with them really. 1.4 versus 1.6 and 2.0. Try a 180 comp, it’ll wipe the floor with most others in the segment.

      I think range rover’s currently own that title, but yes very easy to steal - unless you put an aftermarket immobiliser and alarm on it.
