  • Here's my driving review of the Abarth 595 Scorpioneoro that I was lucky enough to have for two weeks.
It really is a stylish Italian hot hatch, however I found it deeply flawed in one area in particular...

Coming from a current Abarth 500 owner, they’re all very valid points you made mate. Too crashy, sit too high and no steering wheel reach (not as much as an issue for me as I’m 5’7), no 6th gear or cruise control, lack of interior improvements/features, wind noise. But they look great, sound great, loads of cool OEM options that other cars in the price bracket don’t really get, loads of aftermarket mods, handle surprisingly well, pretty reliable and affordable running costs. In lots of ways they’re like the old school Peugeot and Renault hot hatches from back in the day, some people see that as outdated and overpriced, others enjoy it for what it is. For me I can live with the flaws and love the car anyway because of its character, and my next car will probably be another Abarth. I’d get a 2016/17 facelift 595 Comp with the performance pack (which includes mechanical LSD and carbon back seats), they can be found for about £12k, and are way more special than a newer base spec 595

Thanks for sharing buddy. There is something different about them for sure, and I think if I had to buy one, it would be an unapologetically ‘hardcore’ variant such as a Romeo Ferraris or 695bp

I’ve got a Abarth comp , got to say I love it , yes the suspension is a little hard but this is a second car and for fun and speed it’s brilliant, definitely not a motorway car in my opinion, a car that puts a big smile on your face !

I used to have an 100hp Panda a few years ago. Fantastic car totally ruined by really stiff stock suspension. Fiat appear to think sporty means visiting the chiropractor twice a month.

I do like how italianny it looks, but the white ones with red and green racing stripes look equally iff not more "itallianny" and for me, probably have more characters, the leathers do look the part tho

I have had a 595C. Well, It's a quick little looker but the effects wears off soon. The seating position kills the perception of speed and the car overall has a bad center of gravity somehow. Steering and suspension/chassis feedback was also lacking. Frontend twitchy, too much torque in sharp cornes - small engine and big boost means less throttle control. Overall I did regret the purchase soon and ended up with a car that had a very wide turning radius for such a small car, fuel consumption and running cost were on par with a "proper" roadster. The abarth can't grow into a sports car and all the modifications take away the benefits of a small car. It's a shame, because aside from what you feel the car is actally quite capable and it really looks nice. But in this price range, better ger a used Z4 or if you want a hatch look for something like a Seat FR model. Or, try the new 500 electric - it is not as fast as an abarth but it feels more powerful due to throttle response and that fits the chassis way better.

Popular as they look great and are incredibly affordable! The GF loved mine, it was happy compromise between a car she loved and I wouldn’t hate. We both quickly started to fall out of love with it though, it was too noisy, interior was cheap and the ride was too firm! But after all of that I still want another even though I know it’ll disappoint me again haha

I own a 595 Abarth for 4 years now and actually agree on your points yes. I however wont trade it for anything else, I love it! I dont get your personal cars being a car guy? Those are probably two of the worst BMW's ever made? We had a Z4 3.0, most unreliable vehicle we owned, dealership bought it back from us and that 7 series is a boat. Even the BMW guys think those things are crap. But back to hot hatches, best hot hatch ever made was probably the Fiesta ST200 or Pug 205 GTI.

Just got rid of my comp for another Z4, in my opinion these are a truly terrible car, too much turbo turbo lag followed by the power falling off too quickly, the comps have the Koni suspension is bouncy at low speed and awful at high speed, the seating position is terrible, the interior materials are really bad, the gear change is like a spoon in rice pudding and if you change fast enough to keep it in boost between gears the gearbox feels like it’s going to explode, the flaws come through even more when your pushing on, there are much much better options available at the price point these cars sell for, the only thing it does well in my opinion is look good, they don’t even sound that great.

A "typcal' list of all things said previously; nothing original from you. You're driving a "sports car" ... omg, that's right ... "A SPORTS CAR" ... live with it ... oh, the mpg? I 'm averaging 32 to 34 mpg, 45 on the highway, on "cruise" control ... hate to bust your preconceived ideas .... I wouldn't touch the beamer - a very poor driver's seating position ... for me a sports car driver. my 500T

A comparison with a Fiesta ST. What's that all about?
Z4 the old one it's just out of date! Isn't an old 7 series a thing of the past too? for, fed-up people who keep saying fundamentally this is all wrong...
I don't think you get it!
People who buy these cars don't care to want or to be seen in a Fiesta or anything Ford for that matter. Or say things like id rather have a rear-wheel-drive instead of thinking these super exciting, fun, a pocket rocket with lots of personality and character.
Just have a look at the ownership of Abarth and what other cars they may have. A Ferrari..?
In my family, we have, Track focused, prestige and luxury cars including an Abarth 595 Comp. For certain we don't have an OLD Z4 or an OLD 7series regardless of what model or how many cylinders it has.
Maybe you should stick to, old. "thing of the past" beemers.
    It's only my opinion.😆
