  • Jim Brown, who was arguably the greatest member of Cleveland Browns and one of the top players in NFL history, passed away Thursday night at the age of 87.
The death of Brown was confirmed on Instagram by his wife, Monique. "It is with profound sadness that I announce the passing of Jim Brown. He passed away peacefully last night at our L.A. home. To the world, he was an activist, actor, and football star. To our family, he was a loving and wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. Our hearts are broken," she wrote.
Brown's life was celebrated, eventful, and at times highly controversial. Yet through it all, the powerful ball carrier helped revolutionize the running back position during a career spent entirely in Cleveland, and became arguably the greater player the game has ever seen
"It’s impossible to describe the profound love and gratitude we feel for having the opportunity to be a small piece of Jim’s incredible life and legacy," the Browns wrote in a statement posted on social media. "We mourn his passing, but celebrate the indelible light he brought to the world. Our hearts are with Jim’s family, loved ones, and all those he impacted along the way."

I got on a plane once with my one year old and Jim was sitting in the front seat. I didn't want to bother him because at the gate he kept getting asked for photos. He looked at my one year old and gave him that classic Jim Brown nod and smile. My one year old took his binky out and saluted him. It was so surreal.

Since I didn't go to many Browns' games in the '60, I watched the "Quarterback Club" hosted by Gib Shanley (also the voice of the Browns). I loved to watch replays of John Wooten and Gene Hickerson pulling to lead Brown around an end. Those guys usually wiped out the defense on the corners and permitted big gains by Brown or Ernie Green.

Am remembering the day my friend & I was standing at the parking lot when we saw Jim Brown pulled up and parked his car. At the apartment complex were we lived in 1965 in Cleveland Ohio. I was shocked to see him in the projects were I lived. He got out his car walked up to me & my friend and rubbed my friend's head.
I said, you know Jim Brown? He said yes, he is going to go see my mom, than he said do you want him to sign your football? I said yes. He ran to his apartment with my football & came back with Jim Brown signature best wishes in life to me by my name on my football. That day was one of the greatest moments still to this day! Thank you Jim Brown!

Art probably should have treated Jim Brown with more respect. I suppose that’s true. However, the two men reconciled later on. It’s understandable for a lot of people to be upset with Art Modell. Many negative things that happened are elevated because he moved the team. That’s a good reason to elevate them, but a pretty obvious one, to say the least.

It was none other than The Greatest Athlete in The History of Professional Sports. The Legend. The GOAT. #32 Jimmy Brown of my Cleveland Browns. He was also the only Athlete in History win BOTH The NFL Rookie of The Year Award and The First EVER NFL's MVP Award in the same season. There’s no running back equivalent to Jim Brown in the modern NFL. The closest is Derrick Henry of the Tennessee Titans. In today’s game, it would be like having a running back that was 6’4” or 6’5” that weighed around 317 pounds. Oh, yeah, if he could run about 25 mph! That would be incredible in today’s NFL!
