I have a 2007 GMC Yukon XL with an 8 speaker, non Bose system (2 tweeters in the A pillars, 6 1/2” speakers in each of the 4 doors, and some super small midrange speakers in the far back D pillars). All the door speakers have died, but the tweeters and far back speakers still work fine. I’m replacing the door speakers with some Focal Polyglass speakers I have sitting around, and will be using aftermarket brackets, wiring harnesses, and installing foam baffles to protect these speakers. I see you installed your baffles under the brackets, but I’m planning on installing mine between the top of the brackets and the speakers, and trimming off the excess. I’ve used foam baffles before and wasn’t too happy with the loss of mid bass, but I’ve read you can cut a hole into the very bottom of the baffle starting the size of a quarter and going up from there, or even completely remove the very bottom of the baffle on the inside to allow for better airflow for the speakers, and help improve the mid bass response. Either way, it’ll still be putting out a lot more sound having all 8 speakers working. Especially since the door speakers put out most of the sound in this vehicle.
I replaced all of my speakers in my 09 GMC sierra SLE. I bought those baffles and they do protect from water but rolling the windows down can, and did on my truck, move those baffles and then they will collect water in the bottom. I also, noticed that it had a tight sound but didn't sound as good I thought they could. I removed the baffles, and the sound 3 times as good as before. They are the Kicker brand.
I wouldve advised against the baffles. They reduce bass alot, unless they are speakers specified for small air enclosures. The way they work, is the door itself serves almost as the box for the speaker. So youre dramatically reducing the amount of airspace for the speaker to hit with and reduce it to just higher end quick popping bass, and you lose all that lower end deep extending bass
The water damages the speaker by dripping from the top. You could cut the entire bottom half of the baffle off and have the same protection with the speakers being open to the door panel. As a bonus, 2 baffles would now be enough for 4 speakers
I used those same baffles to replace my speakers with a similar moisture problem. Been going strong for 4 years now in my '07 silverado. I can recommend them.
When you do your rear speakers use a bright colored marker Mark your holes, drill your holes and then mount the speaker. Also, cut a hole in the bootom of the baffel so you can get some base reflex
I’m about to replace all my speakers in my 13 Silverado ext cab, went to Crutchfield and put in your year, make and model. The speakers come with new mounting brackets and a adapter wire for simple replacement. I’m going to run all my speakers through an amp I had. I initially bought those baffles but I read a lot of bad reviews and videos. Instead I went with Stinger Roadkill foam rings.
Those baffles are to protect the speaker from getting water and to last longer it’s not meant to improve sound and the Stinger Roadkill foam rings is made to improve the sound and don’t remember if it also reduces rattle
Nice job if you're keeping the door unblemished. Happened to my '99 burb and delco speakers have a RIDICULOUS price. I tried using Duco model cement and , NOTHING. But i talked to a guy who re-cones marshal speakers. He says use the 4 ohm and not 8 ohm. The 8 ohm are for big tube amps and will only sound like tin cans. Another problem is that the oem installer sometimes uses a full baffle, IF they have enough, the cones are not waterproof either. Everything stock worked so-so on the oem until i fixed the front driver cone then they all shit the bed.
I did pretty much the exact same thing except I used the dremel to cut the center out too, my fiance has an 11 Malibu and both her door speakers stopped working, we went with the kicker cs65's huge difference compared to what the factory speakers even sounded like when they worked
I did the same on my '08 Sierra, but used a Bosch multi-tool to cut the plastic. No melted plastic and minimal sanding afterward. In my truck, the rear door speakers were clearly stamped "8 Ohm". I was expecting 4 ohm speakers.
Exact same non bose UQ3 enhanced system(6 spkr) installed in a 2010 chevrolet 1500 v8(5.3) equipted single cab long bed work truck i've driven at work, non cd radio along with power locks and power windows. With the volume turned up 3/4 way, i swear it sounds like it has a small factory amp in it somewhere, its louder than normal and so clear, no distortion whatsoever. I never thought this kind of system would ever have been installed from the factory, much less an option in work trucks when the bare basic amenaties would be the norm.
BrotherFred09 There are weeper holes on the bottom of these doors... Take a toothpick or similar, and make sure the drain holes are free of debris... Its the only way to make sure any water that gets in, can get out quickly. Some of these trucks actually start to fill up with water inside the doors...
I know this is an old video but I have the same problem with my 07 and your video was very helpful. I was curious if someone made a barrier to protect the speaker from moisture. Thanks man.
Just replaced my third driver door speaker, I never knew what was causing it to go out. The Chevy dealer didn't say anything about this being a problem.
Litterally watching this video right now to pull my door panel to put in baffles. And to fix my damn junk broken door pull handle. Broke about 3 mo out of warranty of course.
Great Video, Helps fill in the gaps that all the other sights/msg boards leave. I have a problem with mine, they sound horrible, cracklie, some times work interminably, or their really low/soft even when up 100%. Do you think this could be the GM speakers and/or wiring or even worse a bad head unit?
I'm on my third set of front speakers on a 2007 chevy Silverado.Lousy engineering, the inside of the doors are like aquariums.I bought the Marine grade kickers. We will see how long they last.
Also, make sure the weeper holes at the bottom of your doors are not plugged... Alot of the Silverado/Sierra trucks actually start filling up with water pretty bad... Just uses a q-tip or toothpick and make sure they allow the water do drain properly.
I have the same problem for my 2008 tahoe. When we got it, I think only 3 of the door speakers were working. Slowly year after year, each speaker eventually went out leaving us with one working(driver side rear door) speaker. It sucks sooo bad.
My 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 is like this. The two dash speakers work and the rear driver side door speaker works. The other three don’t do shit. It happened after the freeze we had here in Texas a year ago. I just figured out today which speakers aren’t working using the balance and fade. I’m replacing all of em!

MolsonM3 they will always work but the stock stereo amplifier only puts out so much power so they will sound more clear and louder but if you want them louder you should connect an aftermarket amp in like 400 watts under 800 though and it will sound crazy loud

Given the flexibility of polethylene foam, it seems like if you took that approach, when you mounted the speaker into the bracket it would have created a much more solid seal and you could have potentially carved off any excess foam. ZeroForced now when you say flush against the pocket like you were saying something about the clip and such ?? great vid I'm going to have to do this to my truck also no sound out of front speakers tweeters work tho lol great vid thanks ;)
Shane Hansen thanks for the props! If you don't pull the top corner tabs up tight, it will leave the top side of the foam baffle bowing inward leaving the speaker exposed
Noticed you didn't disconnect the tweeters. How did it sound with the factory and new speaker tweeters? I'm installing a pair of 6 3/4 two way kickers this weekend in my Silverado.
Mitch Martin they didn't sound bad, but the highs do clash a bit with the door speakers. They will be good to keep if you have subs too. I like being able to hear my highs closer to ear level so that's why I kept it. But the CS65 provides plenty of highs
ZeroForced Thanks for your reply! I left my factory tweeters connected too. After trial and error with the equalizer, bass boost and x-over settings it sounds really good. For my taste anyway.
I had the same issue so I did the same I got a different pair of speakers they worked great for about a month and then they stopped working again the same two
My truck had similar symptoms. It honestly could be anything from a short at a connector or just a bad speaker. You could always take a speaker from another door and plug it in and if it instantly works, then that means most likely you have a bad speaker. If it’s the same thing as the original speaker, then you have a short somewhere in the wiring from the head unit to that speaker specifically. I had to do a run through before coming to the conclusion of water damage. When they are dry, you almost can’t tell they were ever wet unless side to side with the same doesn’t that has never been wet. Hope that helps.
The issue with my 2011 Silverado non Bose is that the rear speakers only work sometimes. It's completely random. Sometimes one will work, sometimes both are working then sometimes it'll be several months when neither are working then randomly they're playing. Both front speakers always work. Has anyone else experienced this?
My truck did the same until I did the speaker upgrade. My guess is they are either getting wet or the connectors are eroding. If you are up to it, take the door panel, un fasten the speaker and inspect the connectors for erosion and the cone for rips and stains. But honestly, if you go that far into inspecting them, you might as well replace them while you are at i lol. Anywho, if they are cutting in and out, it’s a connection issue. The way I tested my wiring was I used a working speaker from another door to make sure the wiring itself isn’t the issue.
Such fucking bullshit that this is such a common problem for so many years with since an expensive truck. Doesn't make any damn sense. My rear speakers don't work.
You could’ve easily just drilled 4 holes and popped the 6.5 in the door easy peasy instead of all that trouble to Siamese a perfectly good speaker in that loose ass janky factory (mount?). And u said it, u really don’t know. LOL On the bright side it makes me feel super smart watching this train wreck when I can stand it
Your main problem is not your speakers. You have a check engine light on and a tire inflation warning light. It is much more important to address these issues first. Judging from your tastes in music you would be better off with NO speakers.
Chevrolet makes garbage vehicles. Only thing good they make is the VTEC engine. All electrical components are garbage when it comes to GM. Stick to Hondas or Toyotas.

I installed jl18’s with 600 ohm rms and 700 amps
Useful information.. but bro.. GET ON WITH IT
Brett Pollock
All you gotta do is skim. Not everyone grasps the basic concept.

Such fucking bullshit that this is such a common problem for so many years with since an expensive truck. Doesn't make any damn sense. My rear speakers don't work.
Michael Sprague yeah i feel strong about it too. The least they could do is replace it since it's their design flaw

My 2008 GMC Acadia is awful please help fucking water
Its cus its country music,
You could’ve easily just drilled 4 holes and popped the 6.5 in the door easy peasy instead of all that trouble to Siamese a perfectly good speaker in that loose ass janky factory (mount?).
And u said it, u really don’t know. LOL
On the bright side it makes me feel super smart watching this train wreck when I can stand it
Your main problem is not your speakers. You have a check engine light on and a tire inflation warning light. It is much more important to address these issues first. Judging from your tastes in music you would be better off with NO speakers.
Pesak Hraap check engine light is from just turning the key to the on position and not starting the truck.
Who are you to say shit when your names fuckin pesak
Pesak Hraap I cant believe you even wasted your time typing this...
Chevrolet makes garbage vehicles. Only thing good they make is the VTEC engine. All electrical components are garbage when it comes to GM. Stick to Hondas or Toyotas.
lemarjones1 I’m good. My camaro does just fine 👍
Where did you get the adapters?
