Kengo is a Tokyo-born, London-based DJ and artist. Growing up on his older brother's cassette tapes, CDs, and FM radio and spending his later school years in London's live concert venues, Kengo eventually discovered club culture through his love of dance. Gravitating towards spaces where the dancefloor was the place to be, such as Madame Jojo's and Plastic People, led him to set up his own collective 4 To The Floor, connecting music, dance, community and education in the club context.
"I'm excited to share some of my Japanese records with you. I've chosen records, loosely based around the genre of what we call in Japan "light mellow" which pre-dates City-Pop's more synth-driven sounds."

Excellent set
Thank you!
I hope the plants also enjoyed this.
That first track sounds like straight out of a Tarantino movie !
Haha it really reminds me of Django
My first thought exactly!
Indeed, I was instantly brought back to Kill Bill vol 1
Just woke my son up to this who has been studying Japanese...new Sunday morning fave for sure ✨️
I am currently teaching myself Spanish and I listen to Spanish music often so I can get used to speaking the language in any situation. This is a great way to support your son as a parent.
Also, side note, I spent a significant amount of time in South Korea. Because of this, I have become enamored with eastern Asian cultures and language. My wife will often ask me what language is being spoken or written, and I am generally close to 70% right. Each language is incredibly distinct from another, that if you pay attention enough, it would be no different from you hearing German vs Spanish.
@@geoffreyzziwambazza7862 That is awesome! Yes when he was little I often played music in any language I could find plus cartoons would be shown in Spanish, French, Chinese, etc. I only was doing it for fun and the desire for him to feel a familiarity worldwide. He ended up developing an incredible vocabulary at a young age and now as a teenager is thinking of majoring in Linguistics! He is baffled how most people can not distinguish the differences between Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Taiwanese and so forth. I have often had to give him the reality check that most are only exposed to a limited amount of foreign dialect.
Bless him. I'm studying japanese as well. I hope he succeeds with his goals.
That room though….the stereos got them plant growing like crazy.
Come for the music.
Stay for the plants.
My God, even my 11 months baby is dancing! Great sound man, good job! Love from Rome, Italy

Keep the japanese music coming! 🔥🔥🔥
I love exploring Japanese music! Thank you for this. To think this music is only 30 odd years separated from WW2; Japan truly evolved with incredible pace post war
Yes Kengo!
One of my favourite DJs who can play any genre at any event. Also a wonderful & down-to-earth human-being to be around.
Nice to see him on a great channel like MAJ.
YES Kengo! So happy to vibe to this on a Sunday afternoon buddy☺

"Lupin the Third, Part II" is one of my favorite old-school animes, and many of the tracks in this set remind me of the series's soundtrack.

Waowww!! Slick super mix *****
masterful!! so 🔥🔥
Such a great mix! I’m heading to Japan next month for a few weeks. This will be on repeat until then.
So sad about the copyright issue. I've listened to this several times and really fell in love with the song Anata Dake no mono. Now it's stuck in my mind and I can't find it anywhere. Ughhh. It's true when they say enjoy what's in front of you as if it's your last time.
I found the song on Spotify & Apple Music ✨ Google the song & it’s under Yumi Arai.
What minute is that song??
According to Google it's on Spotify and apple music
LOVE THIS
めちゃくちゃ最高です NICE Sense🎉
How dreamy ✨
This is aaawwhhhhmazing! 😩♥️
Congrats on a million subs
☄️🔥🚒 You’ve put me on the hunt to find these records.
I fucking love the vibes of this music, man. Love the channel too. Just discovered it. The music is bouncy and light and puts me in a great mood.
This was a great set! I used it as a starting point to dig for some more Japanese soul funk albums. I have a ton of US and UK music from the 70s, so now exploring Japanese sounds is refreshing.
Nana kinomi wow.. thank you! forever on my playlist now :P
Playing Gem after Gem this guy. Amazing set.
Faves:
Hiromi Iwasaki - Campus Girl 07:23
Tatsuro Yamashita - Dancer 09:32

Yo, Dancer was so smooth! Shame I cannot find it on Apple Music or iTunes…
Wow! I never knew there was Japanese soul music in the 70’s. My first time hearing this and I am in love! Thank you so much for sharing. Love from USA, New York City!🙏💜💜💜
Japanese soul and city pop are great deep dives if you've already tapped out all the US and UK digging.
Damn! This is lit!!! I was hoping that someday such video will pop up and I will be able to start discovering more of this ''light mellow'' genre. It's hard to find new japanese music if not living in Japan. けんごさん!紹介してくれてありがとうございます! Cheers guys :D
Track one out the gate got me there!

Hi guys! Thank you for you channel, been following you for a long time. I have today found out that my favourite French garage with the guy near the open window is not available anymore. I had a whole routine of putting it on, smoking and cooking pancakes in the morning))) Can you maybe give a hint if it is possible to find anywhere? I can''t stand a thought of losing such a gem forever 😭
Aiko Yano - Katarun Kataran kind of reminds in some part and overall spirits to cat steven's foreigner suite!
nice, want more, like a 2+ hour set please?
❤❤❤
