Number 1 for me is Blackmore. I like Robin Trower, Knopfler and the Glenn Tipton/ KK Downing combo. I’m a big Queen fan but wouldn’t have put Brian up there.
Jeff Beck , The Guitarist out of any contention. Also Ritchie Blackmore admits that! And where is Tony Iommi???? His tunings and riffs not only have influenced so many many bands but they gave birth to whole genres such as doom metal, stoner etc…
This list is born more out of popularity than actual virtuosity and innovation. Joe Perry, Peter Frampton, Joe Walsh and Billy Gibbons are great guitarists but don’t belong in the top 25 (there are a few others that are questionable or placed to high) and Brian May at #1 is all because of popularity. SRV and Rory Gallagher’s exclusion is criminal! Jeff Beck at #9, Mark Knopfler at #12, Jimi Hendrix at #2 and Steve Howe barely making the list is ridiculous! Somehow Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson and Steve Vai are always forgotten when these lists are voted on! Like I read in another comment, Who is reading Guitar World magazine?
Brian May guitar work on Queens first 7 studio albums is great and his live stuff is great as well. Listen to Brighton rock on Queen live killers. Brian May will always be in my top 5 greatist players.
Interesting list considering its made up from votes of people who read a guitarist magazine. I wonder if it was hijacked by a Queen supporters club or something? A few other odd choices like Keef and Frampton while some real guitar virtuosos missed out completely, like SRV, Hackett, Uli Roth, M Schenker, Rhoads, Yngwie even.
My #1 pick would be Blackmore. Plenty of names more worthy, including (but not limited to): Tony Iommi Michael Schenker Uli Jon Roth Paul Kossoff Rory Gallagher Steve Hackett Marty Friedman Paul Gilbert
I’m a fan of all the guitarist on this list. There are quite a few missing though.. I have to add Brian May himself said, Blackmore was there before all of us even Hendrix a trailblazer of the wild electric guitar.
1. EVH 2.YJMalmsteen 3. Jeff Beck. 4. Brian May. 5. Blackmore 6. K.Richards 7. George Lynch 8. John Sykes 9.N. Schon 10. Steve Hacket These are my favourites
The Young brothers is a weird choice. May being so high is odd, although from reading these comments hes definitely underrated and disrespected. Richards, Perry, Walsh, Frampton shouldnt be anywhere near the top 25. Just my opinion, of course
Brian May at #1?! Nope. Never was, never will be. Great guitar player no doubt, but he normally wouldn't be in the top 10 of all time, much less #1. Looks like someone might have a personal agenda here. Good grief. 🤦♀️
Brian would be embarrassed by his position and the first to admit that you have not included numerous guitarists who he himself would have listed. The readers of Guitar World would be advised to research who Brian would have chosen. For myself, any list like this without Rory Gallagher, Eric Johnson, Matt Bellamy, Tony Iommi or Michael Schenker is another waster of time and effort.
Another bullshit list. George Harrison? Eric Clapton, one trick pony. Slash, seriously? Alec Lifeson, no way. Steve Howe at 24 is criminal. Where's Robert Fripp, way ahead of his time. Steve Hackett, was tapping before EVH, great on acoustic and 30 albums and 73 years old still touring and creating.
No Steve Hackett? Criminal! The best guitar player of all time has to be Steve Howe. He can play any genre whereas all these guitar players all all good at a particular style, Howe can play them all. When Freddie Mercury wanted a Spanish flamenco on Barcelona, Howe was the only one who could play it, and he allegedly did it in one take! How many of these guitarist could have done it? Indecently, George Harrison did not play the lead on While My Guitar Gently Weeps, as you state, Eric Clapton did.
First up, The Mighty Mariners!! My family is from Cleethorpes, i lived in Combe street across from Blundell Park for a few years when growing up! Hackett is outstanding, I agree, and a very nice guy too! I'd certainly have had him in my personal 25. And I didn't say Harrison played lead on 'While My...' I just said "his work on". Merely mentioning some of his more famous songs. Thanks for watching 👍🤘
@VRPRocks thanks for your reply! Fellow Town fan to boot, small world! Perhaps see you at BP someday. I'm always in the bar in the Findus before the game.
this list is bogus, NO WAY SLASH should even be in here, Brian May at number 1, thats blasphemy and Bostons Tom Scholz should be on this list, and no Randy Rhodes, BOGUS

@@predictorleague8780 because he's one of the all times greats

Teeny boppers, apparently.
The same people that rarely include Steve Perry as the greatest vocalist of all time.
Tony Iommi
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Randy Rhoads
Michael Schenker constantly gets overlooked these days. I'll take him at #1. This ridiculous Brian May love is fn crazy. Not even top 50.
1000% agree on Brian May
And Michael Schenker on top 5 for sure!

Alvin Lee, Rory Gallagher, Johnny Winter ?
1. DAVID GILMOUR
Both Jeff Beck and Duane Allman are way too low. Where's Rory Gallagher, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Peter Green? Brian May over Hendrix? Oh well.
Not credit ability, because Michael Schenker isn't in.
I dont have a problem with this list might have different order but its a good list.
I respect the l but Neal Schon is my favorite guitarist 6:54
Paul Kossoff, SRV, Robin Trower, Eddie, Brian May as well for sure Frank Marino
There was the electric guitar before Jimi Hendrix, and then there was the electric guitar after Jimi Hendrix.
Sir Dr. Brian May 🎸🫶
My top 5: Yngwie Malmsteen, Paul Gilbert, Eddie Van Halen, Randy Rhoads, and Jimi Hendrix. The rest are on the back burner.

Eddie Van Halen the greatest of all times
Roy Buchannan or Rory Gallagher?
