Back in 2004 my youngest son decided he needed to start collecting vinyl records like his dad and his grandma. So I took him out to our local record store so he could peruse the stock. I know the owner well and he played some of the music my son was looking at. His first album he picked out was Bad Company/Bad Company. I was very proud of him. We still collect together 20 years later. Thanks for bringing back the memories.
His stories reminds me of listening to Casey Kasem's radio show American Top 40 (AT40 he called it), but that is where Adam got his inspiration! These shows are memory bringers!
I love British rockers. They sound so badass on their recordings, then when they sit down for an interview they become these distinguished gentlemen sipping tea in a parlor with their wonderful accents discussing literature and art! Paul Rodgers is such a nice man. It's so interesting to hear about their creative process. Thanks, Professor!
Hah. Jon Lord is my favorite example of that. But even completely psycho drugged-out guys like Glenn Hughes give totally normal interviews 40 years later. Hard to believe he's still alive.
1974, Columbus Ohio, I was a roadie for Red Mountain String Band and we got a call from a roadie for Bad Company and they needed some equipment last minute so we rushed over to the venue, stayed backstage for the whole concert- Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs warmed up for them! The place came apart when Bad Co. took the stage . The venue was an old theater with 3 levels wrapped around a main dance floor in front of the stage. Each level had its own bar set up, too. It was on High St. right across from Ohio State University! What a night to remember!
Ooh. 2 of my very favorites & 1 band with a few very great songs (Styx). My first & 2nd BadCo. albums were BadCo BadCo & the 10 From 6 greatest hits album. I also kept up with all Billy Squier's albums. His videos were pretty bad, but his music was EXCELLENT. I'd love to see a PoR episode on him. Emotions in Motion, Don't Say No, Signs of Life, even Enough is Enough & Tale of the Tape, all great albums that just ROCKED. His story is actually pretty amazing-- he was a smart SOB, rather than taking advances & begging for points & percentages of royalties MAYBE, he played hardball & built a contract that gave him 100% ownership of his songs. He got very rich as a result; even moreso when hip hop came along & started sampling his songs.

I was a Free Fan as many were back then. I recall when Bad Co hit and I was blown away. The whole album was great, unusual for almost any album from anyone. We wore it out then and it's stood the test till now. Of course most of Free and Bad Co have been a lifetime of GREAT enjoyment for me. Thanks to them and the Professor for bringing us insight.
Oh man, this was good. This was really, really good. Thank you Professor! This album brings back such great memories of happy and carefree times. Rock n Roll Fantasy reminds me of times spent with my cousin, who could make me laugh harder than anyone else. It’s so bittersweet for me. It makes my heart swell with the feelings those happy memories bring but makes me so sad that I’ll never have those days again. At least I’ve got the music. I love all kinds of music, but there is just something about this band that makes them stand out above anything else. At least for me.
Legendary riff. The perfect lead in for your archetypal rock vocals. It all just so perfectly blends. Another brick in the foundation of my 70's experience. lol!

There’s something about BC I can’t put into words that makes them so special. They aren’t the first 70’s band that pops to my mind as the greatest, yet I play them ALL the time. Not to mention they’re my favorite to sing along to and feel comfortable doing it. Everything feels better after I crank them for a quick pick me up. I’m a happier person because their music exists and I hope they know that. I can’t be the only one. That’s all.
Bad Company reminds me of my neighbor. Back in the 90's & early 2000's, we used to chill at night at their place listening to great music. Sometimes we would sit around a fire, and other times on their porch. The neighbors would come over at their leisure. "Feel Like Makin' Love" may be my favorite song of its genre. It's a regular for me. I listen to it all the time. 😎👍
Great interview Adam. Thank you. Back in the late 90’s I saw Simon Kirke play with Ringo’s All-Starr band. Two great drummers together. But what surprised me the most was what a wonderful voice Kirke had on his own. Paul’s voice is unbeatable. But Simon’s voice was amazing. After the concert (I think we were in Atlanta) several big-name members of the band came down to the hotel bar for a drink. They were relaxing and kept to themselves. As they were walking out, Simon and I made eye contact. ELECTRIC! All the guys rewarded us for leaving them in peace by coming over and signing autographs for us. They quietly left the bar and we sat there and squealed like teenaged girls. Good times. When I got home I dug out all my Bad Company records and really listened to their music. Anyone thinking about attending an All-Starr concert, it is well worth your time. PS: A few years before that Ringo gave us his autographs. Shortly after that he got real grouchy about fans bugging him when he was on tour. Timing is everything.
Oh, man, I'm 66 yo and this is just a flood of memories. I had all the BC records (I lost all my vinyl...long story). I worked at a moving company every summer with a couple guys my age and we had Bad Company on the 8 track virtually every day. I went to middle school, high school and college from 1970 to 1980. Best decade for music ever and for coming of age!
Paul and Simon weren't wearing sunglasses! I thought that was required for your interviews. Seems like all these old rockers need to be in sunglasses 😁 Another great video Adam! Thank you!
What a gorgeous voice. He’s right up there with my other male favorites: Justin Hayward, Greg Lake, Marty Balin, Freddy, rock and roll voices that move us.
Early `70`s my buddy picks me up in his dads new Chevy Caprice to go to school. We were smoking a joint and All Right Now came on the radio. We played in a band and we were trying to figure out who played that song. It wasn`t easy to get info in those days. Good times!
I LOVE Paul Rogers voice! I can remember being in 4th grade and just sitting in front of one of the speakers in my parents living room and just listening to Rock and Roll Fantasy… He has that voice that you can just listen for a few seconds and you just KNOW it’s Paul Rogers singing…
Saw Bad Co first time in 76 at Madison Square Garden. Rodgers on the lap piano rocking Bad Company so hard he kick ed over the piano into the pit. Crowd was going out of our minds. Pure Rock and Roll
What's interesting is that Bad Company's "Can't Get Enough" was on the charts the same week as Barry White's "Can't Get Enough of Your Love, Babe" And What I want to know is, was Bad Company's song actually called "Can't Get Enough of Your Love" at one point, but because of Barry White's song being out the same time, they had to change it? (like Sheena Easton with "9 to 5" where they had to change that title because of Dolly Parton's song being on the charts the same time, so they added "Morning Train" to the title.)
Simon is # 1 - fills, flourishes, breaks, arrangements 😋 no big kit or ploddingly hammering away on another boring drum solo but complex subtitles of a blatant display of massive Talent
I remember as a soldier, in West Germany, out in the field, in a German forest, kinda lost looking for my unit- and threw that forest I could hear a voice singing (the movie 1917 reminded me of this) So I followed the voice but by then it became many voices singing- and as I got closer I realized that they were singing Bad Company. …and yep, I found my old bad company (wrong platoon) …but it was weirdly spiritual.
And like Mickey Thomas and John Waite, He still sounds like Paul at 75 years old, Unlike his other contemporaries like Paul McCartney, Stephen Stills, John Mellencamp etc. Who sound like old men these days (With Mellencamp sounding unrecognizable and his voice now reminds me of Tom Waits)
@@MrCee71 totally agree... i got a joe bonamassa live album with him as a guest vocalist recorded in 2012 ... they played the free songs "walk in my shadow" and "fire and water"... perfect
I still remember the day this was released and played on the Radio, massive rush to Licorice Pizza in Anaheim Ca for the purchase of the vinyl , I have been a fan of Bad Co ever since, a fan of Paul Rogers even longer with free, man I'm getting old!
Bad Company was one, if not the first, rock concert I saw in the late 70's. They played at Michigan State U in a basketball field house. The acoustics were so awful, with echos etc, I plugged my ears and could hear them better. I'm not complaining...this is just what happened. But the show was tremendous and it was an honor to catch them live. I'll always be grateful I could go to this concert.
I often forget how good some of these old bands actually were/are. Most are older than I am by a good bit. Half the time I watch these videos, I end up adding another "greatest hits" cd to my wishlist. Like, I remember hearing songs on the radio, or my parents listening to 'em, but seeing your videos reminds me that band exists, and that it's good, and that I need to add 'em to my music collection. (Now if only I had enough money to buy all those CDs.)
Always loved me some Bad Company. Feel Like Makin' Love, Can't Get Enough, Shooting Star, Silver, Blue and Gold, Rock'N' Roll Fantasy, Ready For Love, Rock Steady, Bad Company, Good Lovin' Gone Bad Also loved, The Firm and Free Alright Now is such a huge song. Man, what does it take to get a guy in?!
Everyone please, please stop even referencing the 'Rock and Roll Hall of Fame'. Anybody with a functioning brain realized a long time ago that it is a farce, a bad joke. Every time it gets mentioned it receives more credit than it deserves. Stop it.
It's getting more embarrassing now when they put Frampton, Osbourne and Foreigner in late, and Mick Jones is not there (cause of his Parkinson's) Frampton is bending down performing and is having health issues, Osbourne is bending down and he has Parkinson's, and Gramm is also bending down and they have Demi Lovato and Kelly Clarkson singing to Foreigner tracks with Gramm and it's embarrassing
That was Paul Rodgers fault on why they're not in the Rock Hall, if you seen the article from 2 years ago (I Believe) It turned out Ahmet Ertegun was telling him about the Rock Hall and asking if Bad Company wanted to be in it and Paul turned the offer down to be inducted, that's why they're not in.
BAD COMPANY! Paul Rodgers has an amazing voice. Never knew he "stepped in it" so to speak. Saw Bad Company in a double bill with Kansas at an outdoor venue. Awesome evening even though it was 100 degrees. Thanks Professor. Every day is like looking through a view Master with you. Everyone have a great Thanksgiving. 🦃
Bad Company definitely one of my all time favorite bands. Got to see Paul Rodgers solo a few years back, that was a bucket list for me. He’s my favorite rock vocalist. Around the year 2000 the band I was in got to open up for the late Brian Howe. I always thought he sounded like Lou Gramm of Foreigner. Bad Co had great music with him as well. RIP Brian
I absolutely loved Free and Bad Company! Yet another glaring omission from the RRHOF! Who the heck is running that joint?! It’s time to start a fan driven RRHOF!
"Bad Company" was a movie staring a young Jeff Bridges about a group of young men who flee the draft during the American Civil War. It was on Grit TV a few weeks ago.
Great interview with Paul and Simon. I was fortunate and it was an honor to play bass with them in the early 90s. To play with Simon and Mick was a dream come true. The only sad part is that Paul wasn’t the singer. I saw them in 1976 when I was 16 and got to play with them 14 years later. Incredible is an understatement.. It was my Honor to play Boz’s Amazing baselines in such an iconic rock band. I do find it crazy that Bad Company and or Paul Rogers are not in the Hall of Fame.. Thanks for the great interview.
Bad Company and Led Zeppelin were the soundtrack of my high school years. Saw both groups in concert. Great music and memories. Never knew JPJ had temporarily left LZ.
It's one of my all-time favorite bands. Next to Boston, Rush, Kiss etc. I love all their songs. Title song is my favorite. Also liked Holy Water with Brian. But nobody can replace Paul Rogers.
Another great episode Professor, but I have to say how disappointed I was that no credit was given to the late great Boz Burrell. He added the ripper bass lines to the best material Bad Company recorded. He also added some of the best backing vocals behind Paul Rodgers. 😮
I discovered Bad Company in 1988. (I was born in '79, so I was a little late to the game with them. They grabbed me hard instantly and became a huge influence on my bass playing and singing.
Man, I really went back on this. One thing maybe to remind the audience of the big impact of Columbia Records etc., with the get 10 albums for a penny or whatever it was. It seems to me that is when I got my first Bad Co album. The piano part at the beginning of Run with the Pack always sends me back and what a great intro. Maybe the best. I was so shocked to hear you say that they are not in the HOF. What a disgrace. Thanks for this one.
Hey Professor. Such great interviews! Your Rock and Roll knowledge brings out these great stories and Intimate workings of the band and how things come about, it's just great! They obviously feel so comfortable and everyone is laughing and having a great time, well done as always Professor!
Fun fact, Paul Rodgers has a daughter named Jasmine that sings for Bôa. They just came out with a new album that is part of a slowly rising Renaissance keeping rock alive. With their help, it'll be off life support soon! Go check it out!
Paul Rodgers is such an amazing singer and super nice and humble guy as well. Bad Company is a legendary band that certainly doesn't get the recognition it deserves. I am a huge fan of theirs.
One of my favorite bands ever. Their eponymous song is absolutely classic, but a favorite of mine is the lesser-known "Silver Blue and Gold." Loving this interview! Thanks, Adam. Have an excellent Thanksgiving. 🦃
This was my first rock band album. I got it for my birthday from my grandma. My cousin picked it out. I grew up in the greatest age. I was 8 at the time.
I hope Mick is getting along okay. In the early '70s, several friends and I were big Mott The Hoople fans. As a birthday week for four of us, we fit in going to the Uris to see Mott (with Queen). What a night! And when their live album came out and we noticed that it was recorded on OUR night, that was beyond cool!
Sir, You are costing me alot...I see your presentations and u have made me want CDs bcuz my vinyls don't plan well in my vehicles...thanks..luving it...
Thanks for yet another great episode Prof! I have never considered All Right Now as my fav song of all time and at this point that’s probably never gonna happen, but I would have to consider it the greatest rock and roll song ever! Anybody who puts it less than top 3 is totally insane! Also, anytime I read or hear the words Bad Company or hear any of their songs, the first thing that comes to my mind is the line “Bad Company til the day I die!” So that’s it. I’m a fan for life!
There was something special about the English music scene of the 60s and 70s. Because they were all so heavy into the BLUES, you had truly great musicians like Paul Rodgers and Clapton who could handle anything.
I know a lot of people like to slag the Brian Howe era of Bad Company, but they made some great music! The first time I heard the Holy Water album I was just blown away! Of course it was not a Paul Rodgers level, but it was it's own thing with killer vocal melodies, massive guitar hooks and thunderous drums. I still love that album as an addendum to the Paul Rodgers era of the band and listen to it!!
@msmoniz Totally agree! Howe had a great voice in his own right..."If You Needed Somebody" and "How About That" are also crank-it-up tunes that stay in my Bad Company rotations.
I've been a fan and subscriber for years, and my favorite thing about your videos is trying to guess which artist and/or song you're referring to in the title and first minute hints. I only get it right about once in ten, but I actually got this one and then doubted myself. "One of the greatest albums, 1974, they named themselves after their biggest song... Bad Company? Nah, that can't be right... whoa, it IS Bad Company." That's my Dad's favorite song
Bad Company (multiple hits and big album sales, featuring the best rock lead singer ever). The Monkees (Ruled the mid to late 60's top of the pop charts) Tommy James (multiple mega hits)
View Master 😁, yeah we all had one. My granny had a really cool collection of slides of places all over the world, and regularly looked at it, and we would refresh our memories of places off and on with all her slides. Free and Bad Co! Yeah, can't beat Paul. "All right now"stays on my playlists.
One of the best of the 70's bands. We saw them at Summerfest (1979-80?) along with 10,000 other people. I know as you age you slow down so probably don't appreciate all bands as you age but...reviewing a lot of it over 60+ years..hands down..the 70's-80's was the greatest time in music...at least as a band era.
I had the privilege of seeing 'Free' (unsure what album they were supporting) open for 'Traffic' on their "Shootout At The Fantasy Factory" tour in 1973 (Jan. 28th at Johnson Gym, UNM, Alb.). 'Free' put on a great performance and I had the privilege of hearing my favorite song "All Right Now" live‼️😀👍 Free was on top of their game for this concert and the quality was on par with 'Traffic's' performance‼️☝️😁
1st time seeing the band was when Paul Rogers was on hiatus during the Holy Water Tour with Damn Yankees opening. Was not that impressed by that version of Bad Company. Damn Yankees essentially blew them away that night. Saw Bad Company later on a reunion tour with Paul and that was a whole different story. Fantastic show!

I remember as a soldier, in West Germany, out in the field, in a German forest, kinda lost looking for my unit- and threw that forest I could hear a voice singing (the movie 1917 reminded me of this)
So I followed the voice but by then it became many voices singing- and as I got closer I realized that they were singing Bad Company.
…and yep, I found my old bad company (wrong platoon)
…but it was weirdly spiritual.
I see Paul when out shopping. Lovely place and nobody bugs him. One of the best ever he is as well.
This was one of the best video stories ever, and I've been a regular viewer for a long time and love them all. Thanks, Prof. ❤
scored... an interview with paul "the voice" rogers, one of the hardest working artists of rock and roll... amazing
Thanks!
@@MrCee71 totally agree... i got a joe bonamassa live album with him as a guest vocalist recorded in 2012 ... they played the free songs "walk in my shadow" and "fire and water"... perfect
THIS was your best episode yet!
i was at Wollman Rink in Central Park in NYC and Jimmy Page came on the stage and played with Bad Company. A show to remember.
It's definitely all right now - the Prof is interviewing Paul Rodgers! He's an absolute legend, yet comes across as a genuinely nice guy.
Thanks Christine!
He is lovely.
Stop it.
SO true.
All Right Now
Yawn of Lame 🥱💤😂
Counted the rrhof irrelevant when ABBA was inducted.
And yet no Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame induction. Not even a single nomination. Total BS.
@ I can’t find even evidence of that online. I did find a comment from Simon Kirke who felt that snub is likely due to numerous line up changes.
It's INSANE>
I've heard different stories.
@@davidlaw689 Look up Paul Rodgers Refused Rock Hall Invitation and You'll find articles surrounding it.
U2 my friend
Happy Thanksgiving! ✌🏼😊
Isn't it funny when he talks about that?
Happy Thanksgiving Roger. My loyal friend.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! 👋
Paul Rogers also fronted other bands including "The Firm" and "The Law" and certainly he belongs in thr Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
RIP Brian
The perfect start to the holiday weekend Adam, great interviews with 2 legendary musicians. Happy Thanksgiving from Nova Scotia!
I absolutely loved Free and Bad Company! Yet another glaring omission from the RRHOF! Who the heck is running that joint?! It’s time to start a fan driven RRHOF!
THERE WOULD BE A LOT BETTER BANDS IN THE RRHOF THAN HALF OF WHATS IN THERE.IF WE THE FANS HAD A VOTE
"Bad Company" was a movie staring a young Jeff Bridges about a group of young men who flee the draft during the American Civil War. It was on Grit TV a few weeks ago.
Woefully underappreciated movie
Bad Company and Paul Rodgers are so great. Nice post.
Thanks!
"Feel like makin' love' is one of the most sensual songs ever, can't imagine anyone but Paul belting that one out 😍
Fun fact, Paul Rodgers has a daughter named Jasmine that sings for Bôa.
Rock on!
You're in good company when you love Bad Company
Love it!
An ironic fact!
👍
Absolutely!!!💗🎶
Another. Ohhh no. The list is unreal. Near unbelievable...what is even to think about here. Many bands out...... top 20 ever. Period.
On the cusp of and into my teenage years, Bad Co, Straight Shooter, and Run With the Pack were my mainstay albums, classics through and through!
This was my first rock band album. I got it for my birthday from my grandma. My cousin picked it out. I grew up in the greatest age. I was 8 at the time.
WOW!
Back in the Saddle Again Naturally
🐴
Did you ever leave the saddle? Are you going to eat your turkey dinner on the saddle?
I hope Mick is getting along okay. In the early '70s, several friends and I were big Mott The Hoople fans. As a birthday week for four of us, we fit in going to the Uris to see Mott (with Queen). What a night! And when their live album came out and we noticed that it was recorded on OUR night, that was beyond cool!
Thanks for watching!
Every time you do a show on Bad Company, I have to put on the headphones and listen to the song Burnin Sky. What a groove that song has.
YEs it is!
Paul Rodgers snub in RRHOF is a absolute crime
So right!
@tommyelam4037 It is.
Free, Bad Company, The Firm, singing lead for Queen after Eddie Mercury's death. The Rock Hall of Fame doesn't deserve Paul Rodgers.
There was something special about the English music scene of the 60s and 70s. Because they were all so heavy into the BLUES, you had truly great musicians like Paul Rodgers and Clapton who could handle anything.
you can say that again!
Brian Howe also was a great singer for the 80s stretch.
I knew it was bad company when you said the band was named after the song. Bad company till the day I die a great lyric.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤. Great show! Great interview!! Thank you! I always loved Free and Bad Company!
Glad you enjoyed it!
@ProfessorofRock I did, indeed! ☺️. Have a great day,! ☺️
One of the greatest bands of all time.
Paul Rogers is known as " the voice" for a reason. He is the best ! I still have that bad company vinyl and I love every song on it
I thought this video would he about my Thanksgiving gathering tomorrow...bad company.
Seriously, great video as always. Terrific band.
Ha! Love it.
😂😂😂
HAHA good one
Bad Company (multiple hits and big album sales, featuring the best rock lead singer ever).
The Monkees (Ruled the mid to late 60's top of the pop charts)
Tommy James (multiple mega hits)
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, Prof and everybody.
Happy Thanksgiving to you as well! Stay safe! 😀
Happy Thanksgiving Whisper!
I got to see Bad Company in 1975 ( I think) at the Forum in Los Angeles! It was a great show.
As the Great Rickey Medlocke said: “It all comes back to Paul Rodgers”
Amen!
When you hear Paul Rogers sing with the guys from Queen you could tell he was Freddie's favorite singer.
Keeping Classic Rock alive for future generations, thanks Professor
This is a gem of an episode. One of my favorite albums. "Can't Get Enough" really moved me as a kid especially with that Les Paul/Marshall sustain.
Very cool
Great episode!! Thanks Adam!!
The absence of Paul Rogers, bad co, and free, reveal the sham that is the rock and roll hall of fame like nothing else.
Love that you have the Loggins and Messina album behind you.
You're a man of influence now, Adam. Perhaps the Hall of Fame will listen. Have a word.
Greetings audiophiles, melomaniacs and music junkies!
Good morning!
Howdy! How goes it?
Have a good holiday, my friend.
@@Whisper_292 happy holiday wishes, Whisper.
Morning and happy Thanksgiving.
Paul Rodgers and Burton Cummings, in my opinion, were the best two singers of that era.
