I've been flying a ton in the field and on the sim and had stalled on my progress... this video was a breakthrough for me just took apart my taranis x9d... tried out these changes on the sim and its like a different hobby! I am no longer bouncing up and down on the throttle! This is amazing, loosening up the pitch and roll was revolutionary as well! Thanks for this!
Someone has a beard crush. This isn’t some hater toxic Internet type comment here, but boy is the Internet easily impressed by a beard of not particularly notable stature.
I would prefer a "Steele Soft" toilet paper commercial over that of those god awful stupid Charmin Bears that always have to come on while I am eating and they talk about their fuckin shit stained underwear or toilet paper stuck to their asses.
Glad to see you doing instructionals again. I find myself watching them even though I already know how to do it. But you often have one or two little tips or tricks that I didn’t know. Good stuff
Thanks for this vid Steele. After 3 years I had to discover why I was learning so slowly or my moves were so inaccurate. My gimbals were way too loose I constantly (unintentionally) was giving yaw on every throttle input. The sticks were also too tall. I had to slow down my videos to find out what the hack am I doing wrong. I also discovered my rates exact half of yours due to the fact where you prefer a full flip I do an exact half flip so my timing is exact half as slow. :)
Awesome that you are doing an updated and more in depth "Getting Started" series! You original one is what I used to get started, but love going back through and watching this new one
@mr steele: Adhesive backed teflon for smooth throttle, and I made lighter springs from a reverb thingie for an amp that worked out quite well. Great update, this stuff matters.
For anyone who has this radio and wants to remove the throttle ratchet but is scared of taking the whole thing apart: you can access those two metal tabs from the back by just taking off the rubber hand grip. There are holes in the plastic under it that you can fit a screwdriver through.
On some transmitters but not all. I had one Spektrum that I could do that, 2 DJI transmitters that you could access from the outside but on 3 other transmitters you have to take them apart to access the gimbal adjustments. I think Radiomaster has "front-accessible tension and travel adjustment" hall gimbals but I've never had the pleasure of using them. I'm not sure about their latest hall gimbals that fit smaller transmitters.
Some models have hex screws right on the gimbals and you can adjust the spring tension without having to open up the radio. I found this out the hard way when I couldn't find the screws beside the springs mentioned in the video. The hex driver is pretty small but the smallest one included in my Ender 3v2 set worked. My gimbals were so tight I always cramped up during fast races.
Vaseline also works great as a lubricant if you've got that lying around. I use to use it in rubix's cubes as a kid and it would last for what seemed like years.
Mr. Steele, if you weren't here to tell me these things I dunno who would be... Probably someone a lot less classy. Now I get to go try my radio with no detent and slightly tweaked tensions. Thanks buddy, appreciate ya.
IMHO, after having done these tweaks, a new level of control can be gained. Removal of the detent was huge for me, highly recommend anyone who's pondering doing this to take the time, RIGHT NOW!
Been flying with the stock notching on my qx7 for like 4 months and switched a few weeks ago to the smooth throttle and my flying feels so much more buttery its crazy
Nice bro... Like you said before. Personal preference. I run my springs super tight, due to my big ass sausage fingers...hahaha! But basically the same. Yaw tighter...etc...I use motorcycle chain wax. Ya know...being a biker I have it on hand :)

I really thank you for the effort to spread the crucial informations. I can't stress this enough. I really appreciate. Greetings from Vienna... Cheers!
Sup Steele! I have a recommendation for lube (haha I’m a child) that you might find useful or others might. Try using Molykote 44 Medium Silicon lube. I and everyone else in the arcade stick industry use it for our joystick pivots. It’s last a really really long time, it’s safe on plastics and it’s not expensive. Maybe this will be useful. I’d assume it’s good on metal as well.
Molykote EM-30L silicon grease is really good for a low-stiction grease. Stiction being that resistance you get when you start to push the stick that suddenly releases and can make you overshoot. Safe on plastics. Not sure about electronics, but it isn't runny. I got some on amazon.
For anyone watching years later, the TX16S MKll has these adjustments accessible from the front of the radio and mine came without the ratcheting so you don't always need to take it apart, just adjust a few screws from the outside 😄
I remember years ago I thing it was a Spektrum DX8 that I had to remove a ground wire to open it up enough to work on it. Spektrum does not like customers to fix, adjust, modify or explore inside their products. DJI likes to fill screw heads with silicone so you have to pick it out before working on their products.
Great info about adjusting the yaw tension- I definitely need to do that on my taranis- can’t wait til the new tangos ship- and watch out for that dj bot- he’s gettin a little randy!
Just got my backup radio. I have very high tension on my radio. But I have been curious about loose tension so gonna set them up to be the same save for lose tension on one and high tension on the other. Then I can finally have an easier time of comparing back and forth. I also may try the race sticks that have limited throw.
Have you decided wether or not you keep using your Taranis? Are you specifically swapping the Taranis out for this one or are you looking into other models aswell?
My TX16S came with zero ratcheting on the throttle gimbal. I'm wondering if it was a refurb or something. It's supposed to be the hall gimbal version, but has black sticks. I opened it up, and its completely different. There are metal plates on both sides, and the one of the throttle side looks backwards.
It's official: This video changed my life.....I cant believe how floppy and unresponsive my gimbals were......now they do what I am expecting.....so much less dead stick space.......
Dude, I did my QX7S last night... Difference for me personally, was IMMENSE! One of my neighbors was (probably drunk) in his car blasting music past 1am, so I took a little night flight over to check him out, you know make sure he didn't need some medical attention or something... 🤣 Anyway the hover control I had was insane- so much more control without the bumpy throttle... A lot more confident flying close to things. Anyway, I'm sure he was too blitzed to notice... Next time I'll get my hawk with LEDs and see if that's noticed. Hahaha. Have at it, and let us know how it goes for you man!
I have been thinking about getting that tx16. But I really like that tango 2 also, what should I get? I want to be able to fly micros any full size quads.
Thanks that's a huge help because I have a tendency to add yaw to the throttle and always wished I could do something to stop that. I adjusted the throttle but never messed with the yaw part. Is it going to be the same with the Taranis QX7?
Hey steele, is the amount of turns of the spring tension screw also 9 and 7 on the FrSky hall gimbals? If not, how many turns do you use on your taranis?
do mini or full size make a differance ,, i was using mini for a few years the went to full size ,, wow the travel is insane ,, I use mini for racing and the full for freestyle
Mr Steele, would this be a great beginner radio with a crossfire module? So that you have something that you can grow with. Instead of a radio that is limited. Or starting with a cheaper radio that if you decided to not continue with FPV you could sell and not lose your money? I’m one of your videos you talked about that. Thanks

It hasn't negatively impacted me so far but then again I don't to any crazy stuff on the caliber of Steele so it might make a difference for someone like him.
