My 75 year old mother’s mk2 TT saved her life with its excellent crash engineering. She went head on into a full size Chevrolet truck (US) at 65 mph. The front of the TT crumpled, the engine and transmission separated and were 100ft down the road, all airbags blew and the seatbelt preload charge went. The cabin of the car was virtually untouched otherwise, doors operated as normal. Really remarkable engineering. Side note, she swapped into the TT from the same year GTi and the Audi felt like a much more resolved product to drive and just felt special.

I bought mine a couple of months ago here in Spain for 9K, it's the FWD version which I prefer, the Quattro is a lot heavier (a little over 200 kg I think) although will have more traction. Even at 9K in our own "sporty" car market bubble, it's an amazing value. The fact you can get one in the UK for even less than 3K now... Unbelievable value for money. The interior is nice, and the car pulls. 200 hp, which in my opinion seem to be an underrated figure in that BWA engine.

I purchased an 11 plate TTS in 2018, it was very low mileage at 40k ish, I paid £16500 for it, but I don't regret that at all, the TTS has a better air intake and larger turbo and produces 275hp stock, I'm looking to get a cold air induction kit and a stage 1 or 2 remap to push it past the 300hp mark. My only criticism of the TTS is that it doesn't come with a fixed spoiler or grooved discs. An after market spoiler is on my to buy list, but I have already fitted drilled and grooved discs.

I enjoyed watching this, it is always nice to hear what others think of the mk2 TT and rarely is it a disappointing story. I love owning the TT, it is a real pleasure to drive, given that it is a little heavy for its size but the AWD quattro does put out massively when cornering. I will say this though, when it fails, you know about it... and you realise you have been taking it for granted since (very noticable understeer). "Quattro" is just an Audi brand, and for anyone who doesn not know, the company behind this system is called Haldex, many other automotive manufacturers install Haldex units e.g. Ford and their Kuga. The Haldex unit, housed near the rear differential consists of the clutch itself, an electronic controller, an oil pump and an oil filter, and the rest...
For anyone who owns one of these, or is thinking of buying one, a regular service also includes a haldex oil change but should include haldex oil filter change.
Audi don't supply haldex oil filters as a servicable part, they claim they are a non-servicable (life-time fitment) but they are the major reason for the haldex pump failure after 40-50k miles. And not doing so results in your pump being clogged up and burning out prematurely, you can get a haldex oil filter from haldexrepairs.co.uk. You're welcome :)

    • @ViceVersace
      @ViceVersace 3 года назад +1

Great thing you point that out to people. But, I have to say as an owner of a TTS for 2 weeks now, I haven't noticed the car losing any traction at all. One important thing to point about mine is, my tyres are 50% worn and 1 of them at the front is 78% worn.. I don't really understand why people want to make Haldex look "worse" than the torsen. Imagine the TT having torsen Quattro how heavier it would be, also when it comes to hard acceleration from a stop still haven't seen the ESP light coming on. Anyway, I checked on Audi's site for the haldex service because the car has 43k miles and it's priced for 100£, I believe different garages might even charge you more. Nevertheless I appreciate that you're alerting people. 🤝

He is absolutely correct absolutely the purchase price, running costs, practicality and driving fun of owning a mark 2. Yes the mark 3 might be better but a lot pricier, and the mark 1 may look great but doesn’t drive that well. Bang for buck you cannot beat a mark 2 TT. Try to avoid going too cheap as basket case cars will cost more in expenses and hassle in the long run. Go for the best mark 2 you can afford with full service history and which looks as though it hasn’t been maintained on a shoestring.

A mk2 is indeed expensive in the 2nd gen range but is it? I mean it is an RS, with a 5-cyl engine including that amazing warble. A mint one (70 000km, high spec) can be had in Belgium/Germany for around 27k EUR. Of course, maintenance, fuel, etc. will make it too expensive to run for a lot of people, but that is the same with a lot of "older" M or AMG cars.

You should consider labor costs isn’t high in Mexico, and parts are not that expensive since the engine is shared with the GTI from the same production years. So Engine EA888 same common faults as GTI, so really no problem at all.
I’ve had it for a year and I’ve done:
      Alternator belt
Several hoses (due to age) started with a little oil and coolant leak
      Turbos pressure sensor
      DSG maintenance
Tail lights fault fue to bad earth (common problem)
Mine is 2008 with 147k km

Perfect car for my 1000 miles/month commute around West Yorkshire (mainly A and B roads). It has now 60K miles on the clock, 10 years of full-service history. Paid £6.9K in Harrogate. Dreamt of owning one for 20 years! Took it for a wheel tracking the other day and it still looks new underneath. There are plenty of TTs on Craigslist for cheap in US, but if you research online they get horrible reliability ratings. I was between a BMW Z3 and an Audi TT, I ended up getting the Z3 because the early TTs seem to blow power steering racks/hydraulics often and had terrible reliability. Really low user/owner scores online. I thought the Z3 would be nightmare too but 35,000 miles later and my Z3 is cruising along. Gets 28MPG too if you keep it at 65MPH highway. Miata and S2000 are way better in reliability though. I would have gotten 20 MR2’s if the stupid things had trunks :/

There’s a very small apostrophe in “TT’s”, meaning he is talking about TT’s. Or he would have said “why are Audi TTS’ so cheap”, all in the placement of the apostrophe my guy :)
      Lovely car by the way🤙🏼
