☺️ Whenever I hear an artist say "I don't need any green watercolors. I can mix any green from the blue and yellows I have." I always want to ask them "Oh? Which blue or yellow shade on your palette has Green Apatite crystals in it?" 😏

Guys.....dont feel u NEED crazy expensive paints to make amazing art!! There are soooooo many companys making awesome quality watercolors for great value!!
As @Rachel As She Paints pointed out to me, it's worth noting on all these videos that: BUYER BEWARE! This is a very deceptive video! Jean is showing all these colors in brand new 15ml tubes but the set only includes the tiny 5ml tubes. The ones she’s showing are 3X larger than the ones you get! I love Daniel Smith colors but this is a really deceptive way to present this set. Shame on them.
Lovely Daniel Smith colors video shows 15ml tubes, yet they are only 5ml in the set typical cunning marketing, overpriced in Aus, check tube sizes before you buy!!!
This is true. However, I usually buy the small tubes. I work small, and I go in and out of phases with watercolor - and sometimes will only use my pan sets - so I’m always worried tubes will dry out once before I can use them up.
@@geslinam9703 and there’s certainly nothing wrong with that approach. I completely understand. All in taking issue with is a large company showing one size of paint in the video but including a much smaller paint in the set. It’s deceptive. I’m sure you’ve already done this, but if you haven’t, you can cut open tubes that are dried out and rewet the dried paint inside. Also keeping them in zip lock bags with the air pushed out or in tightly sealing containers should help them last longer. I’m sure you already do that though. Happy painting!
O.T. Oss no, I don’t do those things..I’ve only in the past few years really worked seriously with watercolor. It’s an intimidating and difficult medium for me, as all the other mediums I’ve worked with since I was a kid were dark to light - you’d be surprised how difficult it is to reverse that kind of thinking in painting!! Anyway, thanks for the tips. I have some very old, hard as a rock, larger tubes of Windsor Newton, and considering what they cost, even years ago, I still won’t throw them away! I agree with you, though, that her using the larger tubes is misleading. I paid over $70 for this set, and even though I knew the tubes would only be 5mls, it’s still kind of depressing when they are finally delivered and you consider the cost compared to the tiny little box in your hand. Still, $70 was cheaper than buying each tube individually, and Daniel Smith paints ARE one of the nicest I’ve worked with. And when you see the colors, it’s worth it...even though I can make most of the shades with a set of warm and cool primaries!!
@@geslinam9703 they’re beautiful paints and I don’t think the price is terrible for 5ml tubes but it would be nice if the set were a tad cheaper and it would be nice if DS were just direct about things. I don’t like feeling like I’m being deceived and there’s some sleight of hand going on in this video here. If your tubes are truly rock hard you could try adding a little distilled water to the tubes and resealing them. Let them sit for a day or two and then try adding a little more if they’re still too hard. There isn’t really anything to lose. The fact you’re out there looking for information on RUclips leads me to believe you’ll get a handle on watercolour. Don’t let it intimidate you. Forget the mystique. It’s paint. Don’t be afraid to put a good blob on your palette and get some nice high chroma colour going. You might find it a little easier if you’re using less watery paint. Happy painting! :)
