To attach the camera either stainless steel cable ties or large hose clips.
The weekest link in both boats and camper vans is the glass, consider glass security film, check it out.
Also consider an internal camera so that if the external cameras are disabled or stolen you could have film/pics of any intruders.
I would love to try the S220.

Dont drill the exhaust use a stainless steel compression clamp. you can attach it to a small pipe and then with another mount the camera. Also dont make it too easy to steal. I like the S330 system with the solar cameras

You need to invest in quality drill bits. Also make sure your not using masonry drill bits if your drilling other materials and vice versa.

May it sounds as if you have thought this through, nice work.
Last year one solo boater mentioned that they wrote out a list of things that caused them not to feel safe on their boat. Then they systematically rectified those problems.
One thing that you might consider are exterior shutters that can be locked when you are away.
Another thing is never leave anything out that can attract attention, be stolen or damaged.
Have a wonderful week and may the sun shine on you.

Hi may. My favourite eufy product is ‘eufy 4G LTE Cam S330’. I am a GRP cruiser and as such we don’t have WiFi and also we don’t have power when away from our boat so this product would be perfect as the solar will keep it charged along with us being able to access the camera via the supplied SIM card. What a fantastic product👍 we watch all your vlogs and subscribe so we don’t miss any. Hope you will continue with them when your boat is sold on you next boat. Thank you. 🙏

I have the indoor Cam, Pan and Tilt, for when I away and can keep an eye on the pets, this also follows movement and is a no subscription from Eufy - I also have the T8222 Doorbell from Eufy, perfect alternative to other subscription doorbells - I really like Eufy products - I still have an old robot vacuum from Eufy as well - I've just invested in a house alarm system from Eufy, worth every penny, and normally cheaper than the other brands.

Another great video. It got me thinking how about putting that 360 on a type of tripod so theirs no blind spots. You was lucky to get that thing out of the cut/cannel. It's another testerment of your tenacity. It's good that you have your Witt's about you. But if you didn't do anything because you was scared about the what ifs then you would end up doing nothing. I'm always impressed by your ingenuity. And your a great inspiration to us all

The Cameras are a good part of a Safety Solution. Sensors for measuring the water in the bilge , in the winter a freezing sensor etc. could be wonderfull to have. The Shelly components are working well, even with low Voltage and you could send it to your Smartphone. A kind of cheap monitoring. A hug from Germany, Rudi

Since the rotating camera is angled down about 20°, if you mount it upside down on the angled side of your boat, it should scan about torso level, which I think is what you want. Also, I don’t know what type of drill bits you have, but drilling through mild steel generally requires that you drill in shorter bursts and use a cutting fluid (oil) as lubricant so as not to overheat the bit.

I like the robot eye like S340.
There are lots of different options to keep safe.
For RUclipsrs, don’t disclose your current location… easiest way is to delay videos until you have moved elsewhere.
If in the boat and you think someone is trying to break in, make a lot of noise. An air horn or a rape alarm should work well.
Also, in towns try to moor next to boats with people living on them and get to know them so you can look out for each other.
I think most incidents on boats are not attacks on the people living there. It is more about vandalism or petty theft.

Dearest May, Hope you are well? What else did you find magnet fishing :). I love your videos, but have a particular interest, or knowledge of Crime Prevention. You make a lot of sense, particularly around understanding the mental aspect of positive belief. One area that was not covered, but which is essential, is that the boating community looks out for each other. This community is such a strength, to boaters like you. When you are permanent, or localised area, people know each other and who should be around etc. This is extremely positive and people can interact with people if only saying hello to passersby, can help protect them. As you plan to move around and will be a stranger to many, this added layer is not there, but I hope that those boats around you, will keep an eye out for you and your property, whilst you are there, or out for some time. Love the videos as always Steve J

    Hi May,
Could you attach the camera to a pole with a hinge like your chimney and attach that to one of the brackets holding your solar panels? Then you'd have 360° coverage.
As for a Dog, unfortunately, most teacher's won't let people who live on boats adopt dogs as you guys and girls don't have a secure garden for them. You should have seen the hoops I had to jump through to get my Jack Russell, Candy, an ex travellers dog! You could contact fellow RUclipsr the Narrowboat Pirate. She adopted a Dog from somewhere that didn't mind the lack of garden. I'm sure she'd give you their details.

I don't know the British Law on such cams but in a number of European countries you are not allowed to use them like you do because you are filming people w/o their consent. Another thing is that your cams are way to close to the footpath, a short squirt with a spray can and your cams are blind.

Here in the UK the Law is that "you can have no expectation of privacy in a public place" a public place is "includes any highway and any other premises of place to which at the material time the public have or are permitted to have access, whether on payment or otherwise'". I'd agree about the camera placement though, but you're a bit limited in a narrowboat.

Take a look on line as one pointed at you would make anyone think twice and perfectly legal and sensible to own.

Re drills - Your drills are dull, and maybe not best quality. This is why it's taking ages to drill angle iron. I'd suggest going to a good hardware vendor and getting a small set of quality drills made of high speed steel. Black oxide finish, jobber length to be precise, M42 or cobalt alloy type HSS if available. I've had my set for over 30 years and they still cut fast. They can be sharpened, with practice, on an angle grinder. It saves piles of time to have good quality HSS drills. (no need to pay extra for fancy polished or gold colour coated finishes on drills) A drop of cutting oil (real cutting oil, not just any oil, or WD40) helps too. Cheers and stay safe. PS a large worm gear type hose clamp, as used on clothes dryer exhaust ducts, might work to hold your camera bracket to the ex-exhaust pipe.

Get a couple of large jubilee clips. You don't want to drill cast iron - it'll take 10x the time it took to drill the small angle bracket.

Hi may another great video and I’m going to buy a camera if I don’t win your competition they look great.
Oh and the cutting disc in your grinder doesn’t look like it is fitted in the centre and could be dangerous like that so please check it and be careful lovely

Hi May, apologies if my comments appear condescending- not my intention. Two points, firstly I saw that you were using mild steel angle iron as brackets. Nothing wrong with that, but, unless you have a reasonably equipped workshop, use aluminium instead. Alu is lighter and rust resistant and way easier to work without a vise and other tools. Secondly, I suspect that your drill bits come in a big box container for a nice low price. As you stand there drilling away, waiting for it to complete- I suggest you purchase two high quality drill bits. Good sharp bits will use less electricity and won’t test your patience. Say a nice 4mm and a 8mm should cover your needs. Have fun and god speed.

Hi, if I was walking along the towpath, the most inviting things to have would be the cameras, also, I am not sure you can record people just walking along the towpath, its public area.
You may get someone who objects, to being filmed, as they take a leisurely stroll along the tow path, (especially with the moving camera) and disables the camera. (spray paint, tomato sauce) They are wonderful devices, but something that's more hidden may the best solution.
You could drop the blackbeltbarrister a note, he is on utube, I am not advertising for him, but I think he may be happy to give some free advice on filming in a public place.
You could get some tamperproof bolts for the cameras, or bend the bolts?
Personally, I would put a camera inside the boat, as that's the most important place. Perhaps, you should make a note of the what 3 words location, as you would need to direct the police, or whatever, to the location, if you are away. (Would they come ?)
Great you are trying to think of ways of deterring people from harming your boat, its a bloody shame that you have to. 🙂
If I found your boat, I would be tempted to wave and do a thumbs up.
Catastrovisation is a difficult one, you seem to have nailed it, I have not yet 🙂 Even without watching external(news ect) It still get me, I can be 5 mins into it before I catch myself and say "Hang on a min" this isn't logical. Its catastrovisation. Heart racing......Maybe its the yoga and breathing you do. If you feel like it, any more hints and tips....
I think this is the longest reply I have given to a volg... ever 🙂

Good point with internal camera rather than external where all people do is walk past - unless they break in you can't do anything anyway. Plus, you do need to LEGALLY declare that you are filming. Camera company should've put info in saying this and also included stickers saying CCTV in operation

“It doesn’t feel safe”, that’s because it wasn’t safe. The disk on your angle grinder is not centred. This can make the disk shatter when turning or being used. I would recommend you change the disk before your next use.

I really hope you stay safe May and people look out for you that are near. Sadly with the nutters around more so now than ever, your mind won't stop them or neither will plastic cameras as with a hoody on and a face covering they could be anyone. All you can do is be very aware when you're either on it or leave it and trust no one you don't know who maybe just looking around to see what's what and if your alone. As you say you cannot dwell on these facts but in the same token you can't ignore them. Fit your air horn behind locked doors so at least you can sound out SOS if you need to and lots of noise may help in certain circumstances if the only way to contact quickly other boaters near. Of course a back of the mind jobby, but not an ignore jobby. Get George to weld some lockable hinged shutters to all the windows so you can really give anyone a problem when the boat is left or even overnight when on board. All fingers crossed you never have a problem.
