I think part of it is the cringe fanbase. Or I guess what people call the "BTS Army" or whatever. I'll have to listen to any other kpop to see if it compares to this masterpiece
To be fair, even for Kpop fans, Gangnam Style is something else. I feel this song like a parody, be it in the catchy tune, the unique clip and also some absolute satire clichés in said clip. I think that's why so much people loved this song.

Plus there are some unspoken powers PSY himself already has, such as creating explosions (like in Gangnam Style and Napal Baji), manipulating reality (seen multiple times in Hangover), possibly mind control as well, considering so many people dance alongside him in almost every music video, especially in Gangnam Style and Gentleman.
Also if we consider Triple-Q’s Gangnamcore lore from the GCU, PSY is capable of defeating Barkley, so he at least has the oppa hand against him.
