Great vid. Great editing and different perspectives. Thanks for taking the time to do this for all of us! Sitting and watching from California mountains.
Thank you for your kind comments. I’m glad you enjoyed the video. California is the only other place in the world I would live outside of Cornwall. Had some great times over the years in LA. All the best.
Visited this place to see where my ancestors came from. They also were coast guards but in the mid to late 1800’s. They are buried in the local churchyard. A beautiful place to explore perhaps not on a stormy day.
Yep, it certainly keeps the boats safe now. I think the inner harbour was built as a result of several boats being damaged during a powerful storm some years ago.
i was there, got there very early in the morning and walked round then settled opposite the clock tower later on hoping the waves would crash over it but they didnt, must have been a few hundred photographers there that day. i took well over a thousand pics. just looking forward to the next one
Thanks for your comment. Yes, there were a lot of photographers out that day, it's such a spectacular place to visit when it's going off. I popped down on a whim and it turned out I filmed my most popular video ever, I try and get down whenever there is rough weather. I went there the other day but it was nowhere near as rough as it was in this video. Cheers.
When I was a kid and lived here a wave took a police car and several one ton granite blocks back into the sea. Rip the police. Walking around the harbour in extreme bad weather is exceptionally dangerous.
I remember that…. 1978, martin reid. I was ten when that event happened, it was just before Christmas if memory serves. But I’ve always remembered his name as I had a school friend with the same name.
Chile.
Beautiful footage. I'd have been worried if my car was one of the ones parked along the edge. Also wonder about what will happen to the houses on the waterfront as oceans continue to rise. But I'd love to live near there and hear the sea all the time.
I live redcar north east . The sea and high winds bad here. Weve got dea defences here .september we had constant rain i havnt seen our sea so rough since earlh ninties it was coming overwhat they call sea defeces made me shudder before they were placed . Ive seen our seaside destroyed in high storms.... And few years down living on the coast them waves are getting higher 😥
Beautiful, mother nature set in a lovely setting. How I wish I could have been there to enjoy the day. Though the owners of the first few cars might want to consider moving their car on a lull.
Do you know I only live down the coast and I've never been to Porthleven how sad am I ! I need a good pub with grub to tempt me there 😁 after lockdown when it's safe it will be my re-introduction to normal life ,visiting all the places I've always said I want to visit and put it off, great video thank you x
Thanks for your comment. Porthleven is a great place to visit. There are some very fine restaurants there. There’s some great pubs as well. Well worth the visit when lockdown is over. Cheers, JV
It’s so difficult to resist the temptation to constantly move the “camera” around.. so much better to let the scene do the moving . Thanks for sharing. I’m a sailor and that is pretty scary
We stayed near there and visited several years ago when the sea was like this and it was amazing how calm the inner harbour was with the gates shut against the storm waves
I can only assume they were tourists that had parked there before the storm had really kicked in. I can't imagine locals parking there. I certainly wouldn't park there myself :-)
Spectacular!! I always love watching an angry sea (at least from the safety and comfort of my computer screen!) How is the protective barrier across the harbour mouth put into position? It certainly did it's job well that day!
Thanks for your comment. The harbour barrier is comprised of several wooden ‘baulks’ as they are known and I believe they are lifted and stacked in place by a crane which sounds very time consuming and laborious but in storm season I’m assuming the fishing boats stay in the sheltered harbour for quite some time so it’s not like the baulks are put in place and removed on a regular basis. This is my assumption, can anyone else shed any light on this? I found a very old video on RUclips of the wooden baulks being put into place in Mousehole Harbour so I guess it’s the same principle. In 2014 the baulks at Porthleven we’re breached and damaged which caused hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of damage.
Some people need to be a bit more risk averse. Taking a walk next to this harbour during a storm will get you on the local news "local man/woman drowns after being swept into the sea today" Happens every single year.
Kept my eye open for Neil Warnock, could not see him ,he lives there , met him several years ago , very friendly ,both him and his wife, every year myself and my family go to the fish and chip shop, then to the shingle beach and sit on the row of steps.
The majority of those cars are residents who just have nowhere else to park, however there were one or two who would park there just so they could sit in their car with waves going over them. The people who did this were moved along by the coastguards while I was down there
Can I get permission to use some footage of this video for a project I am working on? I am trying to highlight musicians during the pandemic, and am using a performance by a piece written by a Cornish composer, Judith Bailey. I would be happy to do what is reasonably needed.

Do those dopes who parked their cars right next to the water and waves have any idea how corrosive sea water is to a vehicle? I lived in a seaside town for years, and we knew enough to not drive around the beach road during a storm. Even the spray will show up as rust.
Beautiful! Thanks for no music or commentary; wonderful to hear waves crashing and wind blowing.
No music commentary. Perfect!
I like that too.
Agreed
I love watching and hearing rough sea. You can really see the true power of Mother Nature. Super video, thank you 🧜🏻♀️🧜🏻♀️🧜🏻♀️🧜🏻♀️
This footage is underrated really deserves way more likes. Cornwall really is a beautiful place.
Video and original sounds....Waves, wind, birds, thumbs up! And the people parking so close to the side, I wouldn'tdare doing that.
Very kind of you to say so. Please check out the other videos on my channel. I also have an Instagram you can check out @jvscornwall

Proud to call this beautiful village my home :D
Beautiful indeed. The rainbow is a special touch. Be safe out there
Lovely place to live 🙂
I see the small craft inner harbor seems to be protected by some sort of barrier. I this removable after the nasty weather passes ?
I could watch this all day ❤
Please do. It’s good for my viewing figures :-) glad you enjoyed it. Cheers JV
Probably one of my most loved favourite places on earth, Porthleven. Spent many happy days there.
Porthleven is a great place, especially when its stormy.
Raw beauty of the ocean. Fantastic video.
Porthleven! One of my all time fave places..... Thnx 4 sharing
Cheers. I love Porthleven too, especially on a stormy day like this.
Woah, splashy bay!
You Tube needs a "freaking amazing button" like simply does not do justice.. This is truly awe inspiring !
Wow, thank you for your very kind words. I hope to be able to capture some more footage like this again soon.
Look at this gorgeous place 😮
Beautiful beautiful Britain
Yes it certainly is! Especially Cornwall but I’m biased

The water is beautiful yet so powerful and destructive - still beautiful
Simply Amazing! ❤ Kind regards from Portugal

Just beautiful!! I'm on my way
Have fun!
Amazing footage. It’s my dream to live by the sea when I’m older. Could watch the waves for hours
Mine too ! It's my ASMR sound on Alexa...crashing waves.. bliss🌊🌊

Great memories of visiting my very special aunt C. Holloway who lived there and felt so much at home.
Breathtakingly dramatic.
The power of the sea is incredible,I would be scared to live so close to it
Very beautiful.
Great footage!!! I love Cornwall! Been there for a few days and want to return...
Great, Great, Great, weather.!
Beautiful,amazing
Beautiful, would sell my soul to live there
I love the sea, when it's calm, but just love it more when it's wild 🌊🌊🌊🌊
my partner and I love going out to watch the wild sea even tho our umbrella constantly gets blown inside out evelyn x
Impactante!
Wow! Love this so much!

It certainly is.
Impressive; would like to see that in person.

I visited Cornwall 45 years ago as a student here. Beautiful place. nowI stay 16 hours away by plane. Definitely worth a revisit!
I like the way there is an outer harbour wall, then another inner harbour wall.
Yep, it certainly keeps the boats safe now. I think the inner harbour was built as a result of several boats being damaged during a powerful storm some years ago.
Better than train spotting and the church looking building is truly blessed to withstand all those storms over the years.
Guessing you mean the institute, it's not a church
I've missed Cornwall this year

The sea is a cruel mistress. It certainly is a dangerous place to be if you aren't extremely careful.

Must be some well designed sea defenses for the water to be so calm in the harbor at 3:50
Yes, they have massive solid timber groynes that protect the harbour. One year they were breached and all of the boats in the harbour were destroyed.

Those cars 😢...where are the owners😊? That aside...this is terrifying yet beautiful. Almost makes me homesick
After the storm? I bet it was pretty rough!
Weird that the water is so rough yet the sky is almost clear
Indeed, high winds and high tides make for this awesome spectacle
Fished out of there 60 years ago.
I bet you've seen a lot of changes in the fishing Industry since then. Did you watch the recent series 'This Fishing Life'?
@@JVsCornwall No but I will, thank you for the info.
Hope the motors are well undersealed
You're kdding, right? UK cars are sold without any form of winter protection on the chassis. Rot sets in very quickly.

Yes I believe it was but generally when the tide is high and there’s a strong storm it’s like this
