Ilfracombe is a tiny seaside town, and there isn't much parking. The car park is perfectly OK for 350 days a year, just don't park there when a storm is blowing
There is signs in this car park. Most of the time it’s fine but we are on big spring tides at the moment and that combined with strong winds and this is what can happen!
Great Footage! I like a wild Ocean now and then. but it is sad for the car owners. Luckily there are no electric cars among them, because those often start self combustion when saltwater reaches the battery pack.
the landscape beyond the parking loot looks so beautiful, I'm so jealous. I live landlocked in the middle of the US and I dream of living close to the sea. I admit I'd love to be out there experiencing this. I know it would be dangerous but the sea is just fascinating to me. I love those big waves!
I lived in Ilfracombe for a year in 1993, all the landscape in Devon and Cornwall is lovely and I would absolutely recommend moving close to the seaside, although I would also recommend doing your homework before moving. Good luck!
I live in the middle of England, very industrialised, I too love the sea,and have just returned from that part of Devon,it really is beautiful anywhere you go in Devon is naturally stunning
It was a combination of a summer storm, and high lunar tides at the time. Pretty common here. There's a warning at the car park highlighting the risk parking there.
Wow! feel for the owners of the cars but that was some of the best video Ive seen..its like a whole film, the happiness at the start and laughingg, then the terrible damage then some drivers trying to escape, its got it all. But the damage, the strength of the water, IMENSE.
Aren't most of those accidents to do with tombstoning or being drunk? There's a wall there, the kids are having fun - like I would have done at that age, able to assess that the wall protects them from being swept away.
It doesn't protect them from being sent crashing into the rear wall. If a car which is a lot stronger and heavier than a human body can be moved and damaged it's not going to do a kid much cop. Did you not see the transit bumper side as well the Corsa.
I see most comments about the damaged cars and power of the sea. Lets give a Huge Congratulations to the Construction Team that built this car park to be able to withstand this kind of severe onslaught of waves. There must be some kind of damage to the wall after taking such a beating. I would like to see what is on the other side of the wall down to the sea. How far down to the submerged beach. Big Shout Out to the Cameraperson for showing us a part of your world on this high tide event. Gerry from Florida.
Well if they’d built the wall like Dymchurch in Kent (it has a large concave ‘face’ to direct water away from the land), the water wouldn’t flow over the wall, but instead would be deflected back out to sea.
The submerged beach is called Cheyne Beach, from the pictures I could find, the seawall looks to be 5 - 8m tall (15 - 25 ft) in different places. The sea wall in Dawlish (town on the other side of Devon) broke in a storm in 2014 and the railway line, and the nearby road collapsed, and it destroyed someone's house. There's quite a famous picture of a train running along the tracks, being absolutely soaked by waves. A few years later a bridge collapsed in Dawlish after being hit by too many waves. I don't know whether Ilfracombe is very lucky, or if Dawlish is very unlucky.
The United Kingdom will be devastated by 300 foot tsunamis in the near future which is no laughing matter. An evacuation should be organized immediately to give the population time to relocate. This is a very serious matter.

Poor cars 😢 I feel really sorry for their owners coming back to find all that damage. 😔 That green car was chucked about all over the place. The beautiful E46 3 Series BMW and that Audi that had a blue badge too 😭. I was in Boscastle the day of the floods in 2004 when all the cars were washed out to sea. We were in the carpark where in happened and for some reason I said let's turn around and go to St Nectans Glen first (just up the hill a mile or so). We then couldn't get there because the river had burst its banks and the footbridge was underwater so we turned back and that's when we discovered all the cars from the carpark we had just been in being washed out to sea. We parked on the headland and watched as helicopters winched people out. I filmed a lot of it on an old camera and have never shared it. I must get it converted to digital as it's the 20th Anniversary next year. x
I was told on a boating course I did several years ago that one cubic metre of water is one metric ton! No wonder those vehicles sustained so much damage.😮

They do this often. Just look at some of the town-planning. Nobody wants to work for them. They are useless at everything.except fines,.council.twx.etc.
😆👍🏻
Ilfracombe is a tiny seaside town, and there isn't much parking. The car park is perfectly OK for 350 days a year, just don't park there when a storm is blowing
There is signs in this car park. Most of the time it’s fine but we are on big spring tides at the moment and that combined with strong winds and this is what can happen!
The bell ends who passed the car park as safe should pay for the damage they caused due to there stupidity
Wow, astonishing footage! Great job to the cameraman 😮
Oh my goodness! ... I hope everyone was ok ❤ .. Really good footage. 🙌
Wow great footage.. I could watch this for hours..
Great Footage! I like a wild Ocean now and then. but it is sad for the car owners.
Luckily there are no electric cars among them, because those often start self combustion when saltwater reaches the battery pack.
Another reason not to own one
@@stephaniebailey864 Another reason indeed!
They terrify me!
Man the green car and the van really got beaten hard within *sandpit72's* view
the landscape beyond the parking loot looks so beautiful, I'm so jealous. I live landlocked in the middle of the US and I dream of living close to the sea. I admit I'd love to be out there experiencing this. I know it would be dangerous but the sea is just fascinating to me. I love those big waves!
It wasnt big wave (4 meters) but tide was highest point of the year and small storm.
Dunno the tide there but in some place its 14 meters .
Most places by the seaside look like this in the UK, or more remote (no car park). You should come and visit 😊.
@@britishbobby99I do like Ilfracombe! Beautiful harbour too.
It was a combination of a summer storm, and high lunar tides at the time. Pretty common here. There's a warning at the car park highlighting the risk parking there.
Amazing nobody was killed there. Not very bright. Bigger storm (Antoni) Saturday. Stay safe. Stay away from the sea. These storms can and do kill.

Wow! feel for the owners of the cars but that was some of the best video Ive seen..its like a whole film, the happiness at the start and laughingg, then the terrible damage then some drivers trying to escape, its got it all. But the damage, the strength of the water, IMENSE.
Should we wonder at reports of youngsters losing their lives in seaside "accidents"?
Aren't most of those accidents to do with tombstoning or being drunk? There's a wall there, the kids are having fun - like I would have done at that age, able to assess that the wall protects them from being swept away.
It doesn't protect them from being sent crashing into the rear wall. If a car which is a lot stronger and heavier than a human body can be moved and damaged it's not going to do a kid much cop. Did you not see the transit bumper side as well the Corsa.
At least they're outside and off the computer
@@hungovertv8707 Exactly! I'm shocked at the trembling sheep comments from some people here - it's a wonder they ever leave their houses.
No. Pure stupidity
Thanks for the video. This just shows the power of water. Amazing.

Muy afortunado, no tanto la bici que no se la vuelve a ver...
And a big shoutout for the camper van that stole the show 😂😂😂
Fascinating video, watched every second of that one 👍
fantastic video. loved watching
This was actually satisfying to watch.
Really surprised the local authority or car park owner didn't close the car park.
Unbelievable power of the sea. Poor vehicle owners coming back to find this.
Dumb owner leaving them there. They got what they deserved. You can't nanny everybody.
Exactly, common sense isn’t so common unfortunately.
Poor? I don't think so
Never ever underestimate the power of water !!
A lot of people did right there!
@@markcourtney7251 I'm 70, there's no power in my water anymore.😥
The United Kingdom will be devastated by 300 foot tsunamis in the near future which is no laughing matter. An evacuation should be organized immediately to give the population time to relocate. This is a very serious matter.

what about the pixies and dragons?
@5:27 When the cars start moving like that, DON’T go anywhere near them! You could get crushed!
Proper Funnyman. 😂 I just seen the lad on the bike just disappear under the wave's..😂😂It was the young woman screaming in laughter that sealed the moment. Class 🤣🤣🤣
I must get it converted to digital as it's the 20th Anniversary next year. x
that was a scary day in Boscastle
Yes please. I bet not many will of taken video of that happening
The irony of this comment.
7:25 did they really just park there???
Anyone else have no idea why their RUclips suggestions recommended this but is pretty impressed with what damage the water did 😂
I was told on a boating course I did several years ago that one cubic metre of water is one metric ton! No wonder those vehicles sustained so much damage.😮
I thought that was pretty obvious given the beauty of the metric system

Remember storms like that back in the seventies. Right along the coast.
The young guys were certainly enjoying the stormy weather. 😅😅

Probably a good idea to warn people that their vehicles are getting smashed by waves, rather than just filming and playing, before you also get washed off your feet.
😲 I would be far to scared to get my car, especially after seeing the waves move that green one. The sea is so powerful 😲

Well, the salt water alone has destroyed these cars. What a daft place for a car park!
One of these cars owner selling it in the future: First owner, only washed with water.
Yea... those wave's aren't small for sure. Wow. Seen hurricanes & those are far bigger. These are small compared to those but still impressive!! Never underestimate the power of water. Those teenagers screwing around don't realize the danger they were in with cars being pushed around so easy.
Imagine that you parked there and had no idea about the stormy sea and came back to your car a day later and it's faced the other way with the side bashed in😲
That's what I was thinking!!
The sea must have been building for hours. They ought to have been more aware when parking.
You mean a deaf, dumb and blind person?
I would expect to see warning signs upon entry to the car park. A tourist would not be expected to know of such a danger.
@@blackporscheroadster-yw8hb Sure plays a mean pinball.
