Considering the sleet in some of the clips the water must be freezing cold. Sounds like a terrible place to be with a hydrolocked car.
Yes, some people think riding the clutch and giving a lot of gas is the way to go. However, I am pretty sure the clutch case on most (if not all) cars is not sealed, therefore water can get in and it will affect the way it works. The bite point and the feel change and some people can't seem to adapt to it. Furthermore, sometimes one of the wheels starts spinning and it's not always easy to notice if you're already driving like a muppet.
Actually, following close behind the car in front does increase your chances of a successful crossing. The vehicle ahead pushes the water to the sides causing a temporary slight drop in water height. Keeping close behind means you are travelling in slightly shallower water as it hasn't had time to return from the sides. basic physics in play.
@@ramblingman8992 You may have a point there. Though I'm still not convinced that tailgating your way through what is essentially a river is the way to go.

Drove back home through the Devon flooding at the weekend, had to ford 3 times in depths the limit of safe. Slow and steady, kept the revs going, prevented any bow wave, waited for other drivers to cross. A few idiots slamming through shallower sections, drenching cars and shooting road gravel. I’d rather have not needed to drive though.
I love that VW Sharan, it towed already hundreds of destroyed cars out of the floodings, most of them much more younger than itself. But, his driver should warn the dumb people before entering the water, instead of just watiting for the next order.
if you give advice to a driver, claiming any kind of authority, you actually become liable if they get stuck. The 'Midlife crisis' guy on his channel often says: 'I can't tell you what to do, but I would do this'. He knows exactly what'll happen if you tell them what to do. But fair game, they do tow lots of cars.
I think I saw Kenilworth there. Shortly afterwards, mother nature stepped in and dropped a tree across the ford and blocked it completely, which I assume stopped the blighters.
Just wrecked my engine but hey look on the bright side, I have washed all the damaging salt off from the underneath my vehicle - they might (or might not say!!)
the only way your getting through a flood here in the uk is if the cars fitted with a snorkel like the land rovers over in Africa. and even then you have to go slow like say between 5-10mph.
@@chrisking7603 my only worry with those is are you sure they're fully sealed i mean it needs air flow to cool the battery's so the wiring shorting out from from water entering could cause a big accident.
@@Oblivionwolf38 Most would be water resistant for short periods, as is mine. Has to be that way, even for driving on wet roads. The manual says driving through shallow water is fine... just don't park in it. I assume the battery seals would be better than that of the occupant doors, certainly to protect electrics. Battery cooling isn't passive via vents; closed circuit heat pumps are necessary for heating and cooling. Granted not all EV have tech as advanced as Tesla heat distribution valve manifold.
A long time ago I came to the conclusion that one in five drivers on the road had no business being behind the wheel of an auto due to a complete lack of brain activity. It's more like one in four now.🤨

i went down a diversion that had puddle after puddle each time they got deeper. After only just making it through 5 or so i turned around and went back. Lucky escape!
that's a fisker ocean... fisker gone bankrupt at the start of 2024, the cars lost 75% of the value the moment it left the dealership. I don't think the kerbed alloy is his biggest problem...
I'm actually surprised by how many of them made it across, not withstanding problems later. Even the Sprinter is only rated by Merc until the water touches the *bottom* of the front bumper! Most of these modern vehicles will have the air intake at the bottom of the engine bay - the front air dam/bumper must be preserving a pocket of air around the air box. Otherwise it makes no sense that a lot of them made it!?
I love the way they see a high ground clearance lorry broken down in the middle, and think they can drive through the same depth.

BMW Minis have their fuseboxes and other electronic gubs mounted very low down so I would guess that the roof lowered due to a short circuit.
@@MajorT0m I was thinking they put the roof down to get out of the car without having to open the doors and get their feet wet.
@@ramblingman8992 You may have a point there. Though I'm still not convinced that tailgating your way through what is essentially a river is the way to go.
Everyone should have heard by now that a Merc cannot handle much more then a puddle 🙈
Yep, if its any more than a couple of inches deep, don't go anywhere near it with a Sprinter.
German cars are like cats, they hate water 😂
@@Pesmogthe handbook says a Sprinter is only good until your front bumper gets wet - at the bottom! The exception being the 4x4 version in full Africa trim.
Now I know why my delivery was late.
There really are some absolute fkin WEAPONS on our roads these days.
Hi Ben. Please could you show a sensible driver at the start of your clips lol? Right now my faith in humanity is kinda lost, and seeing someone do it right, for a comparison, would be pretty nice? Hope you're good - still at Uni?
Fab suggestion!!
The silver Ford Galaxy I often see in these videos does really well .
I thought it was a vw sharan but yeah it's bullet proof
@@saulmc8920 from a distance it looks like a Galaxy.
@@dougfields5798 Only small differences between Sharan/Galaxy. They are basically the same car. It is also sold as Seat Alhambra.
9:38 the mighty Nissan Note laughs in the face of it's incompetent drivers!
Indeed... but why on earth then swap to the otherside of the road and go and get stuck on the grass? Madness
Thats funny guy at 11:14 red Audi A3 cabrio😅 Come on darling you can do it 😂
Big up for the Rover P100.💪
There’s a truck stuck in the water in front of you, you are driving a lower truck or a car, what’s the solution? Let’s goooo😂
the only way your getting through a flood here in the uk is if the cars fitted with a snorkel like the land rovers over in Africa. and even then you have to go slow like say between 5-10mph.
Alternatively, battery powered.
She can kiss the engine goodbye in the mini 😂
I am impressed.😮
Driving through a river is one thing, but doing whilst there are stranded cars is quite another! 😂
This does not mean that electronics will not go away or die over time
Smart cars are great for water crossing if you move the intake just plow your way through the engine is in the back so make that wake
A long time ago I came to the conclusion that one in five drivers on the road had no business being behind the wheel of an auto due to a complete lack of brain activity. It's more like one in four now.🤨
I've stopped. It's too dangerous now.
2:00 getting that special photo 'this is where I trashed my engine'
That Fiesta definately had a wet belt😂
12:46 ''ok, let me burn this history book all together with the museum, tired of it''
I worked in the motor trade for a while. The damage caused by driving through floods was a good little earner.
We had local flooding recently and I came across a section of road that I knew well that was flooded, but I knew the safe wadding depth of my vehicle and also the depth of the water and managed to go through the flooded section safely, however the car behind was not so lucky.
Me wondering why I've got a fish in my FedEx parcel 😂
Where is this road please? I'm surprised it's still open.
The majority of the roads in this video had road closed signs in front of them which people proceeded to drive around 😅
@Ndjieisneuowwus a great location for a used car garage 🤭 and free pick up service for the flooded part x
FEDEX for first time Delivering fresh natural water 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
i went down a diversion that had puddle after puddle each time they got deeper. After only just making it through 5 or so i turned around and went back. Lucky escape!
7:02 nicely kerbed alloys
that's a fisker ocean... fisker gone bankrupt at the start of 2024, the cars lost 75% of the value the moment it left the dealership. I don't think the kerbed alloy is his biggest problem...
I thought he clipped the Mini
I'm actually surprised by how many of them made it across, not withstanding problems later. Even the Sprinter is only rated by Merc until the water touches the *bottom* of the front bumper!
Most of these modern vehicles will have the air intake at the bottom of the engine bay - the front air dam/bumper must be preserving a pocket of air around the air box. Otherwise it makes no sense that a lot of them made it!?
